PM Raila Odinga acknowledges cheers from elders during a meeting with Kalenjin community elders drawn from North Rift Counties held at Kinmosa village in Eldoret Town todayPrime Minister Raila Odinga has this morning been over 6000 Kalenjin elders from the North Rift in what is expected to culminate into the Kinmosa declaration. The meeting is being aired live on KASS FM where speaker after speaker has been urging Eldoret North MP to go slow on his mooted alliance with TNA's Minister Uhuru Kenyatta. Elders are asking young men from entire Rift Valley to talk to Ruto and his allies reconsider his partnership with TNA PM Raila Odinga with Minister for Industrialization Henry Kosgey and Roads Minister Franklin Bett during a meeting with Kalenjin community elders drawn from North Rift Counties held at Kinmosa village in Eldoret Town todayThe PM is being hosted by elders in Eldoret today to discuss how the community will support the ODM party in the general election. “The PM is reaching out to voters directly because they understand him and many of them will actually back his Presidential bid,” Kosgei said. Raila has laid out an elaborate strategy to seek votes in the Rift Valley region where he enjoys the support of Ministers Kosgey, Sally Kosgei, Franklin Bett and Musa Sirma among other MPs. Political pundits and analysts in the area say unless Ruto vies for the Presidency, he will find it difficult to take the entire Kalenjin community’s vote. The PM is expected to address Eldoret residents after the meeting with elders. Interesting initiative by the PM. I think it is brilliant and no amount of spin by kamale and mwalimumtukutus about genuine and non-genuine elders will this time do. Ruto is facing the biggest battle of his political career. He may just end up an insignificant leader with little support sorrounded by novices such as Kuttuny.

Mugabe, this is the real McCoy alright. No need for spin just the plain old truth. One just hopes as Ekaterina had said, the ICC continues monitor press reports in KE. Agwambo (the Boss) meets with hawkish "general" Jackson Kibor. Excellent photo-opp.....

I think that when January comes, the PANU/TNA/URP gang will not know what hit them. ODM is only revving the engine. What a smack down the gangsters are going to get. If some are imagining that Kenya will elect rapist and murderers for president then they have another thing coming.

Monday, 05 November 2012 Raila Faults Uhuru, Ruto Over ICC Cases
Prime Minister Raila Odinga has on Monday faulted DPM Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto strategy over ICC cases facing them.
Speaking in Eldoret after meeting Kalenjin elders, Odinga said it was wrong for the two leaders to imagine that they will escape the ICC process once they were elected as President and Deputy.
Odinga said the strategy the two leaders are using to whip up support on the basis of the ICC was misplaced and reminded them that the process will go on despite the outcome of the March 4th elections.
The PM and ODM leader who is also eyeing the country’s Presidency in the elections said if elected as President in the elections, he will strive to have the two cases at the Hague referred to Kenya.
Odinga was speaking after meeting Kalenjin elders from the North Rift in his bid to win them back to his side after a fall-out with its leaders led by Eldoret North MP William Ruto.
The PM said that contrary to widely believed claims, he was not behind the quest to have the leaders charged at the ICC.
It was on that basis that he said he will be pursuing to have the ICC cases facing the four suspects referred to Kenya.
This was the second meeting Odinga was holding with Kalenjin elders but the first with those from the North Rift.
Last week, the PM held a similar meeting with Kalenjin elders from the South Rift during which, he apologized to them if he had wronged them.
The apology by Odinga was however accepted by MPs allied to Ruto but with a rider that the ODM leader will not get the Kalenjin vote.
But speaking today, Odinga dismissed the URP allied leaders saying it was wrong for them to demand that he states what he had wronged the Kalenjin community.
Quoting from the bible, "What kind of Christians are they if they don’t know that we ask God to forgive us without saying what wrong we have done,” said the PM.
The PM also rubbished the notion that the ODM MPs who have since joined URP helped win over the votes in the vote-rich province saying it was the Kalenjin people themselves who supported him.
Among the leaders who were present included Ministers Dr Sally Kosgey and Henry Kosgey who have been spearheading campaign for the PM in the region.

PM Raila Odinga greets Jackson Kibor at Kinmosa villageThis is a great photo. My instincts tell me to treasure it as historic. Jackson Kibor, for all his near inaudible throat and lack of oratorical flair, is one of the most disciplined and clinical minds in the Rift. It is not for nothing That he oozes an authority, and is of legend that even King Arap Moi in his hey day had to contend with. So what is it about Kibor? It is, in my opinion, his fearlessness in stating his opinion on Kalenjin matters, without pandering to anybody. A martyrdom profile. And his total lack of interest on monetary gains, such that it is a waste of time to attempt to bribe him. A saintly profile. Kibor is easily the spiritual [sic] moral leader of his community. Even the Christian upstarts recognize this. In the clip under questioning by a BBC journalist, posted by b6k, JK as much as says there will be total ethnic cleansing of the gikuyu from the Rift, unless they share power and show some humility. And he says lots of other separatist agenda. [You would think in arresting radio-man Sang, they got the wrong guy!]So when Raila goes to pay court to this man in his search for votes, it can not be anything but a historic pact. Kibor is not interested in money and influence from the president of Kenya. Kibor is interested in radical autonomy and land reform, and some. He does not have a list of courtiers he wants Raila to appoint to government --unlike Ruto with his manamba politicians being hawked to various m -buses, nay, Kibor is a puritanical brand of Kalenjin nationalism, and he knows Raila is desperate enough to do a deal. [You could even say, Kibor has a wolfish grin on his face as he shakes Raila's hand]. Raila needs him more than he needs Raila. Now, it is the nature of the deal in Kibor's deep mind that I can not fathom as of now. But Kibor is not a man Raila can use and dump. The Luos fought many a dread war with the Kalenjin. The peace-pacts that lasted were sealed by the sacrifices of male children. Yes, the Luo War Council, or High Command, to show their commitment to the cease-fire, sacrificed holy boys, and the Kalenjin military command, to show theirs, did the same. I would trust a man like Elder Kibor to modernise such a pact. To test the depth of Raila's much publicised apology to the Kalenjin. ------------------------------------ Arap Moi in his last dying kicks tried to have his security team instigate tribal war between the Kipsigis and the Luo. Sondu Market was attacked in broad daylight. After the Luo retaliation, the resultant peace pact, brokered by Kipsigis elders who saw through Moi's evil, was based on a precedent as I have outlined above. No Kenyan in his right mind would trust a peace-deal brokered by Kenyan politicians. They cannot even honour gentlemantly MOU-s between themselves!

If the Kalenjin actually follow their 'elders' suspicions and genuinely indulge in serious soul searching, they will discover that Ruto is in the TNA/URP marriage solely for selfish survival reasons… which is fine with me since nobody wishes to be jailed at the Hague.
The marriage of Ruto's personal preservation has absolutely no benefit to the Kalenjin Nation… in fact if it's clarion call is 'peace' between the two communities, the Kalenjin will quickly discover that 'peace' really means the accommodation of Kikuyus in RV and nothing else. They will eventually realize that Ruto, who's been at the pulse of power owned by the Kibaki/Uhuru troops, has done absolutely nothing to address the Kalenjin's key problem with the Kikuyu in the RV i.e. land. Ruto has refused to engage his powerful clout of influence within the PNU/TNA circles to initiate any meaningful dialogue on how to resolve the land issues in the RV in the past five years.
So what's really in it for the Kalenjin in the RV? That's a question Ruto will avoid answering come what way. But suppose he attempted to suggest that as VP under Uhuru, he will finally have the power to resolve all land issues in the RV? We'll, the Kalenjin will simply look back at the past 10 years of a Kikuyu presidency to determine how Uhuru will perform. Yes folks, the GEMA machinery under Kibaki will simply change names and retain the same skewed approach of 'national development' under Uhuru… and totally ignore matters Kalenjin.
Therein lie the truths that may frighten Ruto out of signing the TNA/URP agreement and instead choose to run for the presidency, knowing too well he will loose. The same also frightens Uhuru because he knows too well that if he does not bag the Kalenjin vote in the 1st round, it's lost in the 2nd.
Now comes in a cunning but desperate Raila. First, he buys Ruto flowers… which Ruto grabs and uses to beat him out of their clandestine meeting vowing never to go to bed with Raila. This sly move does one thing i.e. it elevates Ruto's beauty which Uhuru cannot resist… resulting in a night meeting alongside Mama Ngina and Ksh 7 billion to boot. Now Ruto 'must' sign the dotted line and consign his loins to Uhuru's pleasure. Exactly what Raila wants.
The next thing, Raila supplicates and apologizes profusely knowing too well that he will be laughed out of the confession booth and ridiculed by the likes of funny man Kuttuny and Isaac Ruto. He really is looking for any available sympathy votes… which he just might get after roping in those who look like Kalenjin 'elders'.
What we are witnessing is really the unofficial beginning of the ODM/Raila vote hunt in the RV. By the time it reaches it's apex, Ruto will still be the RV kingpin but will also appear not so much in control.
Fact is the TNA/URP alliance must work if it's to deliver for Uhuru (not for Ruto). Since they have announced that the coming election is a referendum on the ICC, they must now convince other regions outside the RV and Central that the problems of two people is the problem of the entire nation. BUT if the RV buckles and Ruto cannot guarantee 90% of the vote, other regions will smell the stench of death. Really, why should I in NE Kenya vote for Uhuru/Ruto just to help them avoid charges of serious crimes against Kenyans?... Esp. now that oil has been discovered in my backyard.
In all, clearly, Raila is gunning for an alliance with the Kalenjin people… Not Ruto. I'm thinking if he can get 40-50% of the RV vote in the 1st round, he'll do just fine.

May someone remind me when and where did the Kalenjins resolve not to vote for RAO in 2012? I've searched all the major archives without success, all I read are quotes from a select leaders expressing their personal opinions disguised as the Kalenjins' declaration!
Our leaders must quickly realize that every voter has full control of his /her right to vote and who to vote for. It's therefore wrong for the likes of Ruto to tell RAO that he should be looking for votes elsewhere as if the Kalenjin community have mortgaged their votes to Hon. Ruto.
Every presidential aspirant has a right to seek votes from every corner of Kenya and as a matter of fact, Kenyans must be warry of any leader who directly or indirectly tries to limit the same.

www.nation.co.ke/oped/Opinion/-/440808/1612456/-/koh2kqz/-/index.htmlTiming of the ‘bold’ move by PM suspectAn apology is a good thing because human beings are not infallible, and once in a while, we are bound to make mistakes. Prime Minister Raila Odinga deserves a pat in the back for bravely accepting that he too is not immune to human shortcomings. The PM, however, should take another equally bold move and tell us what he is sorry for. It is not enough to just give a sweeping apology. One of the key issues that poisoned his relationship with Eldoret North MP William Ruto is the Mau Forest evictions. But the PM has vehemently denied responsibility. He says it was a Cabinet decision and he was only tasked with implementing it. So what is he sorry for? Questions linger over the honesty of this apology because the PM seems to be exonerating himself from any wrong doing and at the same time asking for forgiveness. You can’t have your cake and eat it. The PM’s move appears generously informed by the March 4 elections. And even if he means well, why now? If, indeed, he has the interests of the Kalenjin at heart, why did he wait for this long to hold such a meeting? The Mau Forest evictees are still in the cold several years later. Why didn’t he consult the elders before the evictions or even immediately after? Even if it was a Cabinet decision to evict these people, he should have handled the issue in a better way. The evictions were conducted in the most callous way and the resettlement has been a study in confusion. This was an opportunity for Raila to do something for the Kalenjin but he did not grab it. It was only after three MPs threatened to part ways with him that he acted with the same alacrity with which the evictions were carried out and resettled about 400 families in Rongai. Talk of political expediency! Raila told the elders he has not “helped” the Kalenjin as he wanted to because he was given a raw deal in the coalition government. Fine, let us agree with him that indeed he got the short end of the stick in the 2008 power-sharing deal. Can he tell us the things that he wanted to do but was unable to because of the ‘paralysis’ in the coalition government? What is even more worrying is that the meeting was used as a platform to bash one political party, one community and an individual. If this was indeed an apology meeting, why was this agenda turned on its head and speakers allowed to spew tribal vitriol? And who appointed these elders to speak on behalf of the Kalenjin people on political issues? Apparently this group was conveniently selected to do Raila’s bidding. The remarks attributed to some are not the kind genuine elders spout. The role of elders in the well-being of a nation cannot be over-emphasised. They are peacemakers, fountains of wisdom and paragons of virtue. They are usually an oasis of calm and order when everyone else is spinning out of control. Sadly, some elders have abdicated their role as pillars of society and are now neck-deep in the mud of divisive politics. This new breed of elders are quick to raise the alarm over ‘community interests’ when their selfish interests are at stake. Individuals should be allowed to exercise their rights without the encumbrances of non-existent community interests. Yes there are genuine elders out there who mean well for this country. A group comprising elders from the Kalenjin and Kikuyu has started an initiative to promote peace in Nakuru. They have realised that political differences are not a matter of life and death. Unfortunately such reconciliation efforts are being undermined by self-serving ‘elders’ who are out to cash in on the current fluid political situation. I guess you could ask the same question to Uhuru"TNT" and his marathon wooing of partnerships and running mates.....mara Ruto, Mudavadi then Wamalwa add Tuju and back to Kalanzo.. is their a change of Guard in the Kikuyu Elite group?? is there a struggle between the Kaimbu Group and the Nyeri Group? seems there are different groups wanting different running mates and party partnerships for Uhuru "TNT"? and who in the list of potential running mates is taking Uhuru for a Ride? .. I say let the Kalenjin elders decided why speculate?

Mouthpieces attended the installation of the new leaders but sat in the sidelines. That's rather telling happening 5 months to the next general elections. Hiyo tu! In your view, who are the legit Council of Elders of the Kalenjin?

ODM PRESS RELEASE - 07 November 2012
Subject: URP press statement on ODM Meeting in Eldoret
It is unfortunate that the URP leadership has denounced the Kalenjin leaders we met in Eldoret on Monday as crooks, conmen and worthless. We met professionals, elders, youth leaders, women leaders and businessmen who are highly respected in the North Rift.
I do not understand how Ambassador Tabitha Seii, Musa Ewoii, Kipkorir Arap Menjo, Kipkorir Kipchumba, Mzee Kibor, Said Kaitany, Hon. John Sambu, the Laibons and many others can be dismissed as conmen and crooks. But maybe the URP mandarins have exemplary standards by which they judge community leaders.
Regarding the ICC, the ODM has always called for the referral of the cases to credible courts in Kenya. We opposed the deferral of these cases since this would have amounted to a simple postponement of the cases and not dealing with them. Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta is therefore misleading Kenyans.
My letter to the UN stated quite clearly that any presentation of the Kenyan case to the UN had to get the input of the whole coalition government, and not a faction of it. The PNU wing of government did not consult us when it engaged in the so-called shuttle diplomacy for deferral when they initiated it. It is wrong, therefore, to misrepresent our position for purposes of propaganda by the URP/TNA brigade.
Hon. Prof. Anyang' Nyong'o Secretary General ODM.
