I havent seen a thread here so I will start one.
-Has Kenya chosen its delegation? I dont know
This guy B.Langat the Kenyan American (or is Amerigo-Kenyan) I dont like him
Its not that I hate him or anything, I am just envious.
Here is a guy at the top of his game, married an american (white?) now has a kid, very healthy, mega watt tooyju white smile, on his way to winning 2 Gold medals. He gives off this aura of a fellow who has finally made it, winning rave reviews in the press, in his new "homeland".
The guys life is like a jigsaw puzzle with every single one in place. Such lack of entropy galls me! ;D

This a sad situation but very true...China is the "wrongest" place to have this thing.Starting with their dismal human rights record to non-compliance on maintaining clean air to a bunch of other irregularities.Black folks (mainly African nations) should boycott this dogone thing...but do I say?.....Bush himself will be their despite opposition from fellow Americans. The chinese currently are robbing Africa dry and supporting despotic regimes yet no one is telling it to their face.Waizi wakubwa hawa mahayawani!

The Chinese authorities secretly say Blacks and Mongolians are - social undesirables (alcoholics, illegal drug consumers and peddlers, prostitutes, walking reservoirs of diseases, conmen and women and such).........really SAD.
I guess the entire spectrum from our great long distance runners to Kobi Bryant and his teammates in the US basketball team, AFTER INHALING GOOD DOSES OF THE BEIJING SMOKE-FILLED AIR - filled with TOXIC carbon monoxide, sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, asbestos and lead,....will not be welcome to the Chinese bars for any celebrations for their medals.
Just get the respiratory irritants and go back home.

NAIROBI (Reuters) - Kenya has emerged from a period of ethnic strife to assemble its strongest Olympic athletics team for 40 years with a target of at least six gold medals in Beijing. Following a fiercely disputed presidential poll this year more than 300,000 people were forced to leave their homes and up to 1,300 killed following clashes. Athletes were among the most affected because the Rift Valley town of Eldoret, known as the world's capital of long distance running, was one of the clashes' epicenters. Kenya has won 44 Olympic medals in athletics since 1964 and is confident of adding to that haul in Beijing. "A conservative figure puts it at six (gold), men's and women's marathon, men's 3,000m steeplechase, women's 800m and any others in men's 800m and either 5,000m or 10,000m races," team manager Joseph Kinyua told Reuters. "We have a strong team, possibly equal in strength to the great team of Seoul and our team of 1968," said Kipchoge Keino, the father figure of Kenyan athletics who won 1,500m gold in Mexico and the 3,000m steeplechase in Munich four years later. World marathon champion Luke Kibet, who suffered a head injury during the political clashes, is also a strong candidate for gold along with Augustine Choge who won the Commonwealth Games 5,000m title two years ago. "This is going to be a stronger team that our team of 1988. I can predict that they will bring home more medals than we did in Seoul," Paul Ereng, the 1988 Olympic 800 meters champion said from the United States where he is head cross country coach at University of Texas. The marathon team also boasts Robert Cheruiyot, who won the inaugural World Marathon Masters, Japan-based world half-marathon record holder Samuel Wanjiru and three-times London winner Martin Lel. CLEAN SWEEP
The women's marathon also provides a strong chance of medals with world champion Catherine Ndereba and Selina Kosgei in the field. Teenager Pamela Jelimo, nicknamed "Kapsabet Express" after her Rift Valley home town, looks unstoppable in the women's 800 meters. She is poised to become the first Kenyan to win an IAAF Golden Jackpot following victories in Berlin, Oslo, Rome and Paris. Kenya is also eyeing a sweep of the medals in the men's 3,000 steeplechase with defending champion Ezekiel Kemboi and world champion Brimin Kipruto leading the way. (Editing by Ed Osmond)

PM
Never count out Kenyans. At least two gold...and a couple of silvers and bronzes.
Watch for the women 800m, an epic battle between new sensation 'KAPSABET EXPRESS' ( Jelimo) and the reigning world champion, 'ELDORET EXPRESS' (Janeth Chepkosgei).

Say whatever you may about China but the opening ceremony was by far the best ever done by any host country. I sat and watched it live and had to watch the encore presentation. The only opening ceremonies that come close are Sidney and Barcelona. When will Africa host the Olympics?

There are far too many baseless rumours about racism that are peddled by Africans and other people of colour. I have lived in Asia for 3 years and have travelled far and wide in China. I have sensed a lot of curiosity but never an element of racism the way I experienced it in the US many years ago as a student. I have talked to several members of the Kenyan olympic team and there was no mention of the sorts of things I am reading here. BTW, there is a lot of racism in Africa as well.
As Africans, we should clean our act and act positively and smart. Respect is not a right, it must be earned. Why do we expect the rest of the world to respect when all we do is **k around and kill each other. Asians are working hard to be as competitive as Europe and America. Yet we in Africa are slipping back into the pre-modern era.

Wapi medali basi? Thats the question bro. Kisha most of our good athletes took up foreign citizenship in various countries. I dont blame them. The mess in Kenyan sports has been going on for a very long time. Let Kenya organise its house and all will be well. Hata ukishinda pesa huyaoni. Ministry of sports is known for sending more officials (read corrupt bussiness people or joy riders) to the olympics than athletes. Yaani ukiwa na connections you will be put in the badminton, table tennis, arching, rowing etc team even if you are 60 years old. Kwa ufupi bidii halitakupeleka popote.
