I honestly had no idea that the antics of this bafoon still draw some attention. nalinaliWow. No worries, now you honestly have an idea that "the antics of this bafoon..." are worthy of some people's time. I'm sure you appreciated the "bafoon's" tireless labor when he was part of the team for which you root uncritically. AND that'll be buffoon!

OPEN LETTER TO MIGUNA MIGUNA WHO SEES HIMSELF AS A PATRIOT WITH DUTY! SPEAK, BE REDEEMED OR HOLD YOUR TONGUE FOREVER!I surmise from the adminstrator of this blog you read jukwaa. I hope I please you by avoiding the characterisation lurker! Therefore I am confident this (..) shall reach you. It is about your shirking of patriotic duties at a pivotal moment. You were the PM's advisor on coalitional affairs, but now even as you are freed from that official capacity, there is every reason why you should continue to articulate the finer points on behalf of wanjiku in public. That means writing and analysing the hectic going ons for the public without reserve. If you are knowledgeable in these delicate matters, it is warped to stop writing about them in public as soon as you are nolonger getting paid! Seing how you love the limelight! For instance: the appointment of the new head of public service. Done while Raila is snoring in Davos. Is it a breach of the c onsultation clause? What is the position of the NARA agreement [which I think would disqualify UK from the DPM's post] vis-a-vis the transition clauses in chapter six and the integrity clauses? Look at how the AG's mind is crippled, and lo, heavyweight puncher Miguna too has intellectually fainted on us! Remember how you went for us to the Hague on your own money? If you take the position of an independent observer, though one who has been an insider and knows how the wheels turn, I think you will be a greater service to yourself and wanjiku, than you are when buffooning around with Jeff Koinange and belittling the Mwaseras and Carolis of Nairobi. And still be promoting that book! You really have no idea how stupid you sound when, on national TV, you go on about the ranks in the PM's office, and shut up like now on the real beef, leaving Mutula Kilonzo for whatever reason, to wave the flag on behalf of wanjiku! You have been writing a book, so it is not that you have entered some 'writer's block'! Or are you in a state best described as a 'thinker's block?' ---That is you can write some tabloid book of no intellectual challenge, but nolonger can interpret law at Trendafilovas level. Speak now, or shut up forever! Jossy Ja-Nyando! Defnitely good old big Mig Mig read this but I doubt if he will be responding anytime soon. But I do hope you recall the threat from Miguna to serve Oloo with a defamation lawsuit?

I'm sure you appreciated the "bafoon's" tireless labor when he was part of the team for which you root uncritically. AND that'll be buffoon! Police attempt to seize Star editor’s phone
WEDNESDAY, 01 FEBRUARY 2012 00:08 BY STAR REPORTER PM special Adviser on coalition Miguna Miguna photo Jack Owuor POLICE investigating former political advisor Miguna Miguna's claim that two Cabinet ministers planned to kill him yesterday tried to impound the cellphone of a Star journalist. A CID officer from Nakuru, Charles Mwaizinga, came to the Star offices and demanded to be given the mobile phone belonging to the newspaper's political editor Paul Ilado.
Mwaizinga declined to hand over a search warrant from Milimani court that entitled him to take possession of all "communication equipment" that would assist him in his investigations. Last month Miguna sent a text message to the media alleging that ministers Franklin Bett and Margaret Kamar, and Kipkelion MP Magerer Lang'at were planning to kill him. Bett found out about the message when Ilado called him for a comment.
The ministers denied the allegations and demanded the police investigate whether Miguna was spreading false information. Yesterday, the Star informed the police that the newspaper needed to seek legal advice on the search warrant before handing over the phone. Mwaizinga then became angry and called his superiors for reinforcements claiming he was being thrown out of the Star offices.
On January 19, the police recorded a statement from Ilado in which he explained how he received the text message and how he called Bett, Kamar and Magerer to get their comments which formed the basis of the Star story published on January 17. "We have indicated our willingness to assist the police in their investigations as long as doing so does not contravene the constitution or conflict with our professional ethics and guidelines which refer to protection of our sources," said Star Editor Catherine Gicheru yesterday.
Ilado said handing over the cell phone to the police for forensic audit would compromise his sources. "Sources give us information in trust and do not expect us to hand it over to the police. The statement I have given should serve the purpose. The alleged court order is also not specific to the text message but talks about all communication equipment," said Ilado.www.the-star.co.ke/national/national/60435-police-attempt-to-seize-star-editors-phone

Speaking of SMS's, there was a time MM was firing at least one a day to journalists. Sadly it seems someone has since counseled him & he has been less willing to share his thoughts to all & sundry. Here are a couple of gems from November last year: To his former groupies now turned haters.... "URGENT: I understand some malicious and desparate people are spreading cheap and false propaganda that Miguna Miguna has been bought by Uhuru and Ruto. Let me make one thing crystal clear: Miguna Miguna cannot and will never be bought by anyone. I have never participated in corruption or engaged in unethical conduct like those who have looted public resourses and are involved in Maize, Triton, KKV,Cemetery,FPE, Foreign Embassies, Anglo Leasing, Goldenberg and other scams. They must carry their own crosses. Raila has betrayed me and many of his friends. He has also abandoned Luos. He is only helping himself, his family, relatives and those stealing for him like Caroli (Omondi) and (Mohammed) Isahakia. He is only appointing his relatives to positions! These are FACTS.We must deal with the truth. Miguna Miguna" www.dennisitumbi.com/?p=155...on corruption & nepotism at the OPM: "SAY NO TO IMPUNITY! Raila appointed his Brother Oburu assistant minister. his drunk cousin Jakoyo Chief Whip;his sister Wenwa ambassador;his cousin Orege PS; Jakoyo Brother in law Odembo ambassador, his cousin Gondi the Chief Executive Chairman Geothermal ( Where Billions have been stolen already), his distant relative Ayacko Chairman of Nuclear Commission; his relative Ouko Auditor General; His Cousin Ager Deputy MD KPLC; His Relative Onyango Sika PS; His other relative Kasongo head of NSSF, etc etc. We didn’t fight Moi & dictatorship for Raila & his family. We didn’t go to detention for Raila and his relatives. say no to impunity! Miguna Miguna" www.dennisitumbi.com/?p=157...& on my life is in danger SMS, more here: www.thekenyanpost.com/2012/01/miguna-miguna-claims-his-life-is-in.html?m=1

omin ondiek, i have had to reconstruct this all over again after a power outage, a snafu if you ask me, wiped off the computer screen all the written word that i had penned for you, just when i was about to launch the kicker. here i go again, me with my small mind, wading through what my senior in jukwaa and lovely moderator, sister kathure kebaara ;D, aptly calls the toxic sludge. i set out to to attempt to relay that which the spirits have finally moved me this day to do so, fully aware that you are from the land of the free spirit! may i begin with an announcement that i have some hot news for you. i will have to share it publicly for reasons that you voluntarily ceded your right to privacy and i dare add that of your family, including good old ondiek's ( i have just watched in a vedio clip elsewhere begging the intrusive media to spare him and his family the torments from your exploits) and just to argue my case, i asked an assistant to punch some random names in the google search engine. she began with that of your former college-mate pictured below and just within 0.12 seconds, it pulled 255,000 results samuel etoo pulled 236,000, mpesa pulled 143,000 results,i then asked mrs google about miguna miguna and within 0.13 seconds there were 256,000 results on your name. wycliffe seen here , pulled 107,000 hits in other words, if mrs google is to be measure of notoriety based on fame, popularity or sheer infamy, then yours surpasses that of profitable brand like mpesa or leading personalities like mudavadi and dr mutunga. obviously there is a constant, an oxymoron, the irony that i guess would make you chortle: raila amollo odinga as the derivative.that whom you hate with a passion and seeks to destroy happens to be the very basis for your runaway fame and notoriety. you can hang your coat on this: that for ever and ever, whenever the name miguna miguna is mentioned, it will be introduced as the former aide of raila odinga not as an author, barrister, exile, parliamentary aspirant, odm strategist, solicitor, attorney or any aother deserved academic credential or accomplishments. the news is that today for 10 minutes, a church that i worship in,suspended its normal program to speak to your persona and pray for you. you may wish to know that your children and especially wife were widely and broadly mentioned during this session. here is how it went. more...../ typos regretted

i had taken my daughter, winnie ;D (named after mandela's wife) for special thanksgiving at a very cosmopolitan church in sister beth mugo's dagoretti constituency.the worship experience, thanksgiving,praise,sermon..all went perfectly well.the presiding female cleric(rev.kariuki) was erudite to say the least.eloquent, sharp witted and i dare add a psalmist with firm grasp of all matters theological.
it was at the valediction phase of the church service, when, out of blues, she utter name miguna miguna.you could have heard a pin drop.for seven minutes, she lapsed into her psalmist element, addressing miguna as if you were in the room.
she said something that our vintage member and my senior in jukwaa,dr job who while summoning his medical knowhow, surmised of you in his relevant thread, also echoed by genius and earlier trumpeted by your former schoolmate at onjiko, godmesa(where did this guy go to?);a psycho-analysis of your persona.
the lady pastor may have read your book too but restricted herself to the spiritual realm where she divinely spoke of you as a troubled soul who in her words had problem with his uncle, at school and college, in canada and later in kenya with the pm.in other words, the trouble you had at the office of the prime minister and with agwambo falls in a predetermine historical pattern.
then she said that you have an identity crisis borne out of what she perceived as the childhood deprivation and contrasting social-cultural settings(not her exact phrase). the pastor said you are on a path for self destruction and rebuked what she said were the demons of pride, bitterness and arrogance and the spirit of vengeance that she could tell was driving you.
we listened intently as she spoke in a psalmist mode(addressing you as if you were there) to remember that no-one comes between God and vengeance in other words admonishing you for seeking to usurp God's devine mandate of exacting vengeance.
then she invoked your wife, whom she blamed for what she perceived as absconding her role as an intercessor and prayer worrior given that she is the only person closest to you.in her words, if mrs miguna was a prayerful wife and interceded for her husband, you would have not experience the torment and turmoil that came with the lose of job and the travails that ensured.
worshipers heard in wrapped silence when she dragged the name of your children whom she lamented are likely to inherit the demonic spirits of bitterness, pride and vengeance that she perceived to be driving you. she castigated you for exposing your children to potential ridicule and hatred over your public outburst.
but the good news that she led the church into a powerful prayer for you and your family.in one accord, the church led by the truly gifted prayer worrier that is rev. kariuki, held an intercessory prayer for you, your wife and your children. for some of us who believe in the mighty, wonder working of the divine spirit, we were strongly persuaded that something profound is rocking your household in the distant shores.

may i say that i have not read the hard copy of your book but as admitted elsewhere i was among those who had the manuscript.my sister in-law,mrembo ;D did buy a copy and has filled me in on the events although at the risk of offending her, i would admit that her resentment of you takes the better of her whenever she latches on the miguna narrative.
i have also taken the trouble of watching the video recording of your book launch and several tv appearances you had with jeff the koinange.
this may shock you, but believe me when i tell you that your quest for vengeance, yes that is what i gather courage to state of your book, wont drive agwambo into loathing you. i dare add that just as i have a soft spot for you, despite the reckless abandon with which you seek to destroy the greater good that agwambo personify, he( and i stand to be corrected)as we say in luo, sets you free.
agwambo ;D as i can tell will hopefully be in kibera in the coming week where he shall speak to kenyans on more urgent issues that your narrative is distracting us from: including the advanced, high tech electoral fraud being witnessed at the tendering of iebc and kibaki's county commissioners.our focus is also on the judiciary where agents of impunity are doing their best to reclaim.
this is to say that dont expect acrimony or vengeance from him for that is not his stock in trade. we who call ourselves his followers, not supporters, may( and this is the greatest fear) choose to exact some form of revenge one way or the other but i think this is simplistic or stretching the imagination too far. nyando spoke with that symbolic burial and perhaps nyawawa and nothing less could ensure.period.
i will be back before leave town with a detailed assessment of your book and i will begin with the powerful reminder that uhuru kenyatta's supporters who are cheering you on needs to know of: your confession here in jukwaa that you celebrated the day mzee jomo kenyatta was pronounced dead(see jukwaa archive)
to be continued...
typos highly regretted.

Via Dennis Itumbi, " I have not been arrested by anybody for anything. Neither have I met or spoken with any Ugandan journalist.
Since my arrival in Canada, I have only done interviews with the Globe & Mail; the BBC; the Canadian Lawyer; and The Times of London. Before I took my flight at the JKIA on July 16th, I did interviews with the BBC and the VOA, among others.
They have tried character assassination, incompetent psychoanalysis and media attacks to useless end. They will fail!

Phil, This is more than funny. Uhuru Kenyatta has now lended his spokesperson Itumbi to Miguna. Why should we now doubt the fact that G7 sponsored Migunas book? Why should we doubt what some ( perhaps Phil?) said here in jukwaa that Miguna was lately working for Uhuru Kenyatta?
Ati Miguna claimed he could not work for/with "retrogressive" forces like Uhuru, kumbe he is dining and wining with Itumbi. What an irony.
No wonder the email Sarah Elderkin sent him ended up on Itumbis lap.
Miguna has joined the G7 bandwagon. But I can promise him that this is a war he will not win.

i had to post this before i head of town.here is what nereah makes of your book, based on selective reading (by chapters)
unedited
the tome as have been mentioned in critical reviews is good english and for me an entertaining read.this unfortunately is one book that i judged by its cover.
the cover photo exposes you, in my estimation, as a diabolical mind who egged on with the spirit of the title, is on an evil mission.rather than appeal to the intellect and provokes a deep reflection and debate, its spuriously rattles the emotions.as a reader, you forces me to take a stand right from the outset
as is typical of me, i always check on the acknowledgement first before i settle on the bibliography and later the content.
the list of those you have singled out for acknowledgement and the omissions helps a reader like me understand the influences in the author's works and the ideology behind the constructs, portrayals and the contestations in the narrative.
by deliberately listing these names either with their consents or not, you have assigned critical minds like me to seek extra info on the input and influences of these individuals in this book.
understanding their ideological leanings, their relationships with odm party for instance and raila odinga in particular prepares me psychologically for the read.
this therefore makes my work easier as a reader even as i devour the texts and easily fills the gaps from the hearsay.
you come across as one who entertained gossip and indulged in it for instance when you engage one of the pm's security aide during a presidential function over an information that you can get first hand by the dint of your relationships.
this streak comes out clearly in your engagement most notably with minister sally the kosgei.it is this indiscretion that you make some bad mistake, actually actionable ones. why for instance, you fail to ascertain the finer details of serena tryst with agwambo from patrick quarcoo who later contradicts your version is unforgivable and undermines your credibility from my perspective.
you also loses my respect when you attempt to denigrate agwambo and henry kosgey over something that you seems to perfect.i have in mind the influence peddling for which you graphically but unintentionally exposes of you when you talk of the kenyan investor who drove to intercon, made calls to the minister on his behalf yada yada.
did you do your due diligence on this investor and what was your personal interest that you breached protocols to push their envelop?
the contrasting manner in which you handle key and influential characters in the grand coalition also undermines your ultimate claim for stickler of truth and justice.you choose to readers who is of questionable character and not.
omin ondiek, you did your best to understudy the pm and give what your observed and heard and you make us believe that you have mastered and therefore knows the man.but ask me and i will tell you for free that all that you claim to speak of with authority are suspended on one failure:your inability to explain to the readers what this enigmatic name agwambo means.
in summary, your book scores big when it comes to entertaining the curious minds who may want you to account for your exploits in kenya government but fails abysmally in the attempt to reconstruct the power politics of nairobi.
with your book, you have inadvertently set out the biggest inquisition in kenya today: how a relatively unknown outsider, with no certified credential (you weren't vetted nor competently recruited) literally tiptoed into the inner sanctum of power in kenya when he had allegiance to a sovereign state of canada?
i read carefully the bit you talked about the kicc vote counting in what the uninformed would believe is searing honesty.i was keen on some full disclosures especially on the means and level of access.you may dismiss this with a chuckle but believe me there is an info you deny your readers which would help or persuade our viewpoint of you./
as a reader, i got unsettled with your framing of the events for which you selectively give credit to yourself with choice words and negative energy against those you disliked.the meeting you claimed to have taken charge of organising at lillian towers and the kilaguni events stands out.l
readers of my type unfortunately uses this book to determine a man who was on a mission right from the word go, who had an agenda.it is easy to mistake you as an imposter, an opportunist per excellence and even an agent of a foreign master/s whose brief was as per the script.
your failure to renounce the canadian citizenship undermines your ultimate claim to loyalty and allegiance to the motherland however credible, genuine and positive your platform and overarching mission was in the duration of your public life in nairobi.
also in your book, i see what reverend joyce kariuki stated and partly echoed by your critic, prof. makau the mutua.the identity crisis which you instructively offers the readers a glimpse on in the opening line. who is the miguna on the mirror?
rev. kariuki sees a thread that weaves right before your birth to the present.a streak of turmoil and travails as interludes in your struggles for success.be it at your birth, schooling, social encounters in apondo, magina or at the university in kenya and canada.

This is to back up Nereah nyarwa (our daughter) from Gem now cooking in Bondo. -------------------------------------
Peeling the Mask, is a book that is really easy to read even though repetitious. I especially love the initial chapters where Miguna talks about his early life. It has helped me understand Miguna better. In a word I now understand where he is coming from.
Even though I had previously thought that Miguna would make a good leader in Nyanza/Nyando/Kenya, I will quickly retract my words. The man is so reckless and confrontational he might end up spending all his time fighting imaginary enemies, the nyawawa type that Nereah alluded to. Here is a person who was handpicked put in a very high position by the PM, three years later he had made tons of enemies. In his own words he felt close only to Orengo (whom he writes loads of dung about) and Sally (whom he slaps in the face too). In essence Miguna had no friend. Perhaps his only friend was Raila Amollo Odinga who tolerated him for a whole three years.
Miguna sounds and acts like a suicide bomber, I must add that he has that mentality. The man drops people’s names in his book for no good reason at all. I dare add that the majority of the names he drops he also clouds in a dust of negatively. Even in cases where he gives credit, he tries his very best to retract the same at some point or the other (I will come back to this later). That he was thrown under the bus by the OPM is a given. But the mistake he makes is he ropes in all manner of people in his fight against Raila. The book that was meant to be anti-Raila clearly misses its target. Miguna hits out at everything and everybody around him.
I really don’t care what Miguna has revealed about the people around the PM eg Caraoli Omondi or even the PM himself, if any. What I find most distasteful are some of Miginas outright lies. For example, Miguna claims that Raila Odinga influenced the building and commissioning of Bondo University. First of all, there is nothing wrong with Bondo having a University. Secondly, the University (then a college) was set up by none other than Daniel arap Moi, long before Raila became PM, infact Jaramogi was still alive. The question is why should Miguna lie about something that we can all verify? How many more lies has he told in the book?
Miguna often finished his hard hitting and sometimes abusive articles in the star with “The writer is the Prime Minister’s advisor on coalition affairs. The views expressed here are his own” It is therefore the height of hypocrisy for Miguna to claim that the articles he used to write and were all Railas ideas. My question is this. As an intelligent adult man, who claims to be independent, why should Raila instruct him to insult others and he does just that? Did he not say that Raila had no clue? I guess that this is an attempt to cover his ass given the anger people such as Uhuru whom he called a smoker and Ruto whom he repeatedly called ugly names including Goebbels probably holds against him. Was he lying when he said the views expressed in the book were his own? What other lies has he told then?
For a man who has twice been accused for rape ( see Elderkins articles) in a court of law, I find it silly that he goes on to the extent of talking of Railas “cheap” women eg Passaris and Shabesh. And why on earth do you call someone else wife cheap, which is Kenyan terms might be interpreted to mean a “luch”. If it’s true that the ladies were actually bringing Raila food, so what, was Miguna feeling jealous? Bringing in Passaris and Shabesh name into the picture is cheap and disgraceful on the part of Miguna. I thought that the complaint, if any, should have been Ida Odinga`s and not Janyandos, unless I’m missing something.
The he goes on lying about Raphael Tujus achievements in Rarieda. Truth be told, Tujus achievements in Rarieda were more than exaggerated. The guy’s achievements were modest inspite of having the full backing of the government. The man did not bring any sustainable development to his constituents but rather concentrated on useless projects that died the moment he was kicked out.
While Miguna is a good writer, I think he lost it when he wrote in anger (in this book). He did not sound like the Miguna I know. The one who can write high octane articles that would sometimes send their targets reeling. I must say that once Miguna started writing in defense of Raila he relegated most of the PMs enemies to the dustbin of propaganda. They knew that if the unnecessarily attacked Raila, Miguna would come after them with guns blazing.
To be continued………

This is a perfect piece for those who keeps asking why it is so hard to believe MM. Why It Is Difficult To Believe Miguna
By NgunjiriI would like to engage the accusation that those of us who do not believe Miguna Miguna’s books seem to be attacking the man, rather than responding to his accusations. Let me start by saying that what is happening to Miguna is natural. To use an example that in no way suggests that Miguna Miguna is a mad man; imagine a mad-looking man accosts you and your friend in the street and accuses your friend of stealing food from him; would you believe the fellow? I do not think so. In fact I doubt you would even give the accusations second thought. The reason is that we have a natural tendency not to accept the word of someone who looks like they are mentally unstable. However as is being argued, what if a by-stander confirms that your friend could have taken the mad man’s food. This third party’s intervention introduces credibility to the accusations and will make you look beyond the state of the mad-looking man to the accusations themselves. However what if you then learn that this third party supporting the allegations is actually a ‘certified enemy’ of your friend. You immediately go back to where you do not even consider the accusations.A third scenario is where you are then advised that the mad-looking man is not actually mad. You are informed that despite the odd dressing, loud noises and disturbing facial expressions that he is making when putting across the accusations, the man is going through a traumatic experience in his life. [/b] Maybe he has lost of a key job that gave him prestige and public profile/power; or maybe he is going through a difficult social relationship and struggling through marital issues; or maybe he is reacting to having to re-locate back to a difficult location that he had left, vowing never to return to; a proverbial reverse trip from what looked like Canaan flowing with milk and honey, back to Egypt where he now has to slave in an environment where he is looked down on based on the color of his skin. This means the man is not mad but just going through an emotive point in his life that has psychologically destabilized him. This means that maybe you should look at his accusations beyond the state of his mind. So let us look at Miguna Miguna’s book itself. Reading Miguna’s book one realizes that out of the approximately 500 pages, 300 pages concentrate on Miguna Miguna himself. This is where he speaks about his growing up and early education, as well as making disparaging remarks about nearly everyone he has encountered over the years. They end with his move to Canada, where against all odds and despite difficulties settling in as an African, he actually sets up a law firm. It is not until Chapter 9, somewhere near page 285, that he starts speaking about ODM and the Prime Minister. However again he spends the next two chapters (close to 100 pages), explaining how powerful he was in the party, how close he was to the party leader, and/or how he literally shouldered the entire burden of making the candidate the President in 2007, and thereafter ensuring Raila did not make a fool of himself whilst negotiating against President Kibaki. This means that Miguna actually only dedicates a maximum of 200 pages of a 500-page book, to his allegations against the Prime Minister. However even within these 200 pages Miguna not only attacks Raila Odinga himself, (who he incidentally does not tie directly to any allegation he makes); but the Prime Minister's immediate family and close business and political associates as well. He especially goes after the PM's Chief of Staff, Caroli Omondi and Permanent Secretary Isahakia; two people he clearly dislikes even more than Raila Odinga. But let us assume 75% of the 200 pages (150 pages) is about Raila Odinga's ills, for the sake of building a balanced argument. Let us then consider that a single page in a book like ‘Peeling of the Mask’ has an average of 400 words per page; which means he has written approximately 60,000 words against the Prime Minister. Compare this with the over 50 articles (which also translate to approximately 60,000 words incidentally) that Miguna wrote in ‘The Star’ over close to two years. Each of these articles were as venomous as those words in the book; but they were in support and towards protecting the Prime Minister, from the same accusations he now makes!
So here is a man who first writes a 60,000-word series of articles in a public newspaper over two years; not for profit and of his own accord (as he explains in the book), to be read by hundreds of thousands of Kenyans, saying one thing. Then writes another 60,000-words in 8 months, puts them in a Sh3,300/- book to make profit, and says something completely different! In essence asking us to believe Miguna's book is like saying we should believe in a book written by Moses Kuria saying Uhuru Kenyatta is a bad leader, were he ever to write one www.the-star.co.ke/opinions/ngunjiri-wambugu-/86284-why-it-is-difficult-to-believe-miguna

Ngunjiri brings Migunas silliness home. As I said before, Miguna will be beaten to a pulp with his own book.

In addition to the psychoanalysis by Job, Nereah and Mzee above, the passages below from Miguna's book strengthen my hypothesis of what led to Miguna's character turning out the way it did.
Obviously If he had been a little more creative, he would have found a good alternative to belts and sisal strings in a creeping grass called 'mothno'. A lot of young boys I know were only able to play a game of football or running after securing their shorts with some 'mothno'. Surely this is a common grass around Nyando and young Miguna should have made use of it.
Nevertheless, this failure to get an introduction to sports was very detrimental to the development of his psychomotor skills. You can observe this in the way he violently gesticulates when he speaks. Also this excellent avenue for a child's energy and emotional release was blocked meaning he was left with a lot of pent up energy and emotions inside of him. It is easy to see why his bitterness towards his uncle lasted for all those years. I have seen children mistreated, but they rarely hold the bitterness for that many years. In fact they usually push it away from their minds as soon as they transfer to a better environment.
There is no mention of his involvement in sports during his time at Onjiko yet there are lots of stories about his involvement in debates, etc. Fast forward to Njiiris school:
Here Miguna clearly misunderstood his headmaster Mr. Ndung'u who wanted the best for him. He thought Mr. Ndung'u was asking him to join the basketball team so that he could stop his lectures. On what basis does he come to that conclusion. Look at the transcript, it is clear this accusation on Ndung'u is without basis. The threat was, "join the basketball team or be sacked as prefect," and not, "Stop your lectures or be sacked!" Most likely Ndung'u had observed that his height was suitable for basketball and wanted him to join the team in order to strengthen the team, not to stiffle his public speaking skills. According to Miguna, being in the basketball team and giving lectures were mutually exclusive events. An obvious misunderstanding because after all he himself says clearly that prefects were encouraged by the same Ndung'u to give those public lectures and in addition that most of the senior prefects were also sportsmen.
During my time in high school, we had a teacher called Mr. Otula who would round up all the tall boys and command them to report for basketball training. Most of them did. Similarly all the burly boys would be rounded up by the senior boys and taken to the rugby pitch where we got our introduction to rugby. For many of us, this introduction to sports is what changed our lives. Many of the boys you would see reluctantly walking to the basketball court are the same ones whose exploits you would read about in the newspaper in four years time. I myself am proud of having frogmarched two boys to the rugby pitch who are now proudly members of the national rugby team.
If Miguna had just taken Mr. Ndung'u's advice, I believe his life would have turned out differently. For sure he would not have all that pent up aggression inside him and the readiness to lash out at anybody he percieves to be against him. He would have learned too that in life, like in sports, we win some and lose some yet still regard our opponents as our friends. Some of my best friend are boys I played with and against during those high school and college sports.
He finally validates my theory with his writings later in the book.
Now this lack involvement in sports hence missing out on the physical and emotional development that sports offers is not the only explanation for Miguna's behaviour. There are many other factors, like Job alludes to self esteem issues and the lack of a strong father figure in his life, Mzee's mention of his mental instability and the hubris that Nereah writes above too. I believe though that a significant part of his actions can be explained by the sports angle.
That's all for now folks.

Genius Isn’t the long distances Kids walk to school and the home errands they do every day not sport too? (At least in Rural area and in those days) You are praising the Humiliation Kenyan students face in schools when their rights aren’t respected by their teachers. You can force a primary school kid to do sports, but a Secondary or a High school student should be left alone to choose if he wants sport or not. A child should be left alone to take own responsibility at a certain age (above 15 years old) If you don’t do that, you breed an adult who is irresponsible. At least that’s how my secondary school was. We were given the responsibility to choose which sport we wanted to be active in and if we didn’t want any, we weren’t forced to do it, then we would choose another cultural activity at the time of sport. Miguna is honest in saying that he would have rather wrote than play Basketball. Now should that Healthy thinking make one psychologically unstable or boost his self-esteem? Miguna despite his early age disturbed Family life turned out to be a self-responsible adult. What then makes you think that he didn’t manage to stay above the abuse from his uncle? Anger is healthy. One who is abused and doesn’t show anger is the one you should be wary of. That one is a big wacko just waiting quietly to kill his/ her abuser or self or do any other weird things secretly. The last man who used really hash language in the public addressing corrupted Leaders in Kenya was ? “…British ambassador, Sir Edward Clay, who accused Kibaki’s ministers last July of “arrogance, greed and perhaps a desperate sense of panic” which led them to “eat like gluttons” and “vomit on the shoes” of foreign donors and the Kenyan people. Harsh words for a diplomat, but they reflected the growing sense of dismay among ordinary Kenyans as they started to realize that they had been deceived and betrayed…” (Gwynne Dyer ) I remember Kenyans applauding and happy at last that someone said it loud what we all whisper in the privacy of our 4 walls. Why then aren’t People applauding Miguna too, rather than psychoanalyzing him? You didn’t Psychoanalyze Sir Edward Clay?

This may not be the most appropriate thread but it's addresses to Miguna, so I thought I'd post my comment here.
I just finished reading your book, and it is a fantastic, read. It is extremely well written, if at times verbose, and I am very grateful that you took the time and effort to write about your experiences. (I am actually hosting a book club dinner later this month with friends who've read it so we can discuss the book, not what people are saying about the book, and the invitation list is growing faster than I would have expected).
In my view, the real gift of this book isn't in the depiction of Raila Odinga, it is in the exposition of the Kenyan political system and it's cast of characters (the usual suspects). It is a worthwhile read for anyone advising a political candidate, at whatever level, aspiring political strategists and political commentators and thinkers. This book is not recommended for sycophants or anyone who cannot hold an independent opinion. It is an important read for anyone who believes in, or seeks to, change this country and system from within, and it is also, in my view a warning about the very real possibilities of revolution, for when a political system cannot accommodate or tolerate significant detractors or persistent dissent, it leaves those sympathetic with the detractors no choice but to seek to destroy the system.
I have greatly enjoyed reading this book, and while I do not believe everything in it, it has helped me understand some of the difficulties well intentioned political neophytes or political idealists (not implying Miguna is either) face when they try to change the system. Again, thank you, it was clearly not an easy decision and one that came at a significant cost to you, but I think all students of the Kenyan political system esecially the younger generation, if they permit themselves, can learn from your experience.

Prof Podp,The Lord's My Shepherd (Psalm 23)•The Lord's my Shepherd, I'll not want; He makes me down to lie In pastures green; He leadeth me The quiet waters by. •My soul He doth restore again, And me to walk doth make Within the paths of righteousness, E'en for His own name's sake. •Yea, though I walk in death's dark vale, Yet will I fear no ill; For Thou art with me, and Thy rod And staff me comfort still. •My table Thou hast furnished In presence of my foes; My head Thou dost with oil anoint, And my cup overflows. •Goodness and mercy all my life Shall surely follow me, And in God's house forevermore My dwelling-place shall be.
