Jakaswanga, you're a most patriotic Kenyan if this decision brought you to tears. I must admit I wasn't overly concerned about the whole sovereignty angle, especially when it appeared it would be used as an excuse not to attend. That's the reason why Uhuru's action today is truly remarkable because it comes out tops on so many fronts. Speaking of sovereignty, . b6k, speaking of sovereignty and tears, I know it is the likes of Mrs. Mochama Smitta Smitten, whose deceptively innocent photo you were inspired enough to pontificate before the Jukwaa fraternity at large, who are more wont to jerk your tears off, and not necessarily from your hard eyes. How I wish it were the other way round, and that it were the chimes of eee mungu nguvu yetu ... that melts you whole! seeing this default in your otherwise stout character, I will try to consult widely with wagangas, upto and including TZ maestros like Agwoturumbe and Anyika , how we can perform a super- :-Xstunt with cowrie shells and Otishotish's famous beans and beads and goatskins, inexpensive or not, to upgrade your patriotic sensitivities to I man levels. Did you catch on his triumphant return, Uhuru's Kenyatta's speech on HESHIMA YA WAKENYA YENYE ILIBAKI NA MSHEMIWA RUTO HAPA NYUMBANI ... Na Uhuru yetu ililetwa na damu, hatuwezi ku ...! ---hand me that tissue paper mazee! I am flooding jerked!!

Mwalimumkuu, indeed in "the eyes of the peasant", which is where it all matters anyway since all politics is local, when citizen Uhuru stripped himself of all trappings of the presidency, beginning with the motorcade & that obsolete officer who shadows (the aide de camp) him it was a done deal. It turns out the ADC had even flown out to The Hague as once the clock struck 18:00 hours KE time, the chap was back in uniform & by UK's side. Those who downplay the PR coup UhuRuto pulled out in the last couple of days do not understand the power of symbols to mankind in general. Naturally the international media didn't buy that historic & unprecedented power transfer (to some seen as "histrionics") as they were not privy to our local coverage here. The numerous Mpigs & diaspora Kenyans who swarmed The Hague also dispelled the myth but as far as local public opinion goes, UhuRuto stumped the grumpy old men over at CORD hands down... There are several stories of families who continue to see the people who attacked them, most often their previous neighbours, walking scot-free. To these people, the PEV is re-lived almost every day. It's like losing their loved ones over and over again. See also: Implications of ruling on Uhuru Kenyatta ICC case The question then remains: How does jailing three high-profile suspects bring justice to a family like this? Her farm would generate Sh18,000 during peak season. When her home and all that she owned was torched in the January 008 violence, she and her family sought refuge in a relative’s home in Githurai. Her husband, a retired veterinary doctor, helped her set up a mini shop and rent a house. “Reconciliation and forgiveness is crucial to our return,” Ng’ang’a says. “But it must have the support of all politicians and all communities to become a reality.” “We are told that we now have peace and that we should return home but what are we going back to? Can the government give me some money to buy a cow, maybe some goats and help provide building materials for me to put up a home for my family to enable me to build my life again?” she asks. ke.boell.org/sites/default/files/in_the_shadow_of_death_-_my_trauma_my_experience.pdfIf, indeed, the prosecution case is close to collapse, any celebrations will have to be muted by the realisation that any closure will leave unfinished business in both justice for the victims of the 2007-2008 post-election violence, and absence of any credible moves towards long-term peace and reconciliation in the areas hit by the violence. Those are the areas we must begin to focus on. www.nation.co.ke/oped/Editorial/The-party-over-now-a-dose-of-realism-needed/-/440804/2480846/-/a5eyng/-/index.html
