I find it really strange that some political hactivists have still not let go that 'the dynamic duo' won the election and are governing Kenya the best way they know! If Kenyans made a mistake in voting the duo, then they have to live with it and in 2017 can redeem themselves by changing the monkeys that will continue to misgovern them for another 5 years. In the alternative they could decide that the current monkeys are better than those they do not know!
But constantly harping on the alleged criminality of the duo and how they did not lose the election only prepares the hactivists for another defeat in 2017, and as things are currently looking not even the mistake called Okoa Kenya can bring the regime change being sought!
So yeah, work hard to counter the PR people of the Uhuruto government in Washington, but do not lose sight of the fact that America only works for what is in its BEST interests and sadly the agenda of the hactivists might not necessarily mean anything to the said American interests.

But please throw in tea for the women and busaa for the men. And listening to their bitter complaints every 5 years between the rounds of sugar and 200 bob, I see no reason to believe that they made anything other than a "dumb" choice. I have seen them fooled for decades---still voting and waiting for that borehole or that road from 1960---where's the real counter-argument? -- #2 is this: If the "masses" make their choices in free, fair, and honest elections---and that's always in doubt in a place like Kenya---then, of course, the choices must be respected. But only up to a certain point. The mere fact that the "masses" have made a choice does not necessarily mean that the choice is the best possible or even good at all (remember, for example, that short fellow in Germany? the one with a moustache?) They could have made a better choice. Indeed, one of the "functions" of good "leaders" is to help the "masses" make better choices. -- #3: Kenya has its "duly elected leaders", but that does not mean that it is impossible to do better. Nor does "respecting" their "election" mean that one should not point to their unsavoury, criminal history. (We all know what went down back then.) Nor does it mean that they should get a pass on everything: from what I can tell, Uhuru is barely sober enough long enough to pay attention to anything, and Ruto, even with an ICC trial still going on, seems unable to keep his hands off "hot" land. Ideas etc. should be judged solely on merit. If one disagrees with the "hactivists", then one should present a case to that end. Similarly, if one believes that Kenyan voters are astute, on-the-ball types, then let's have a solid argument to that end. But just jumping up-and-down, ati the arrogant f**kers don't respect the elected leaders, blah, blah, blah .... that's way too weak.

I will illustrate with the universities where I relate more with colleagues and say less on early childhood aka nursery in our days, primary and secondary schools. universities are now made to raise funds so for example university of nairobi has university enterprise services (UNES). UNES raises probably 50% of the revenue the university collects and hence has a large say on university running. my class when I was an undergraduate had less than 20 of us but now boasts of not less than 120 students per year. the 100 top up are called module 2 and have to pay for their education. facilities are still those of 20 students hence innovation requires that now students share. so while at my time we had oral exams to ensure we understood the concepts now a group of 6 students choose a team leader who does the oral on behalf of others and the mark is shared to all 6. something worse than banking is taking place in the executive degrees like MBA. here classes run into hundred and if you remember Taifa Hall it has became a favorite class with students sometimes listening from outside where loud speakers are placed so that they may hear what teacher is saying. and hence come project writing (our days thesis writing) we have 'consultants' who are connected with the students' supervisor. if they are not contracted and the minimum fee is kshs 70,000 to write one a passable project you can rest assured that the MBA student will have to repeat despite the ISO status of the university of nairobi. but I digress let us return to the red high light. when the dynamic duo aka PORK and deputy PORK was conducting interviews for the current cabinet secretaries the word that was going round was confirmed when they reported to their work station aka state departments. using the energy man aka chirchir as an example what he did when he landed in his 23rd office at nyayo house he went into overdrive. all the public service commission employees he ensured were removed from that wing where the Minister and the Permanent Secretary of yonder sat in their offices he brought 'trusted' personal assistants who became go betweens. so say a coal power plant at Lamu County is in the pipeline. the chinese investor would be made to name a price say kshs. 900 million. chirchir will see his counterpart in treasury and have a variation done to up the price to kshs. 1.2 billion. the chinese investor is then introduced to the go between and any payment one quarter will be delivered to chirchir so that at the end the investor gets his 900 M and chirchir his 300 M. a share of the latter is availed to the dynamic duo. on another thread Jakaswaga talks of Mobutu and kleptocracy. there you have it in the dynamic duo sitting at the helm with a council of cabinet secretaries ensuring the cabinet meetings avails the targets every month. so where the system starts to crumble is when the cabinet secretaries enforce the mantra downwards. it worked magically with the principal secretaries but starts to unravel at the lower level. are men indeed adaptable and manageable beings? the philosopher in me asks and flatly refuses that all men are indeed adaptable and manageable beings. teacher gave a way out by first agreeing with what you wrote: "Oppression --overwhelming control -- is necrophilic; it is nourished by love of death, not life. Now the argument is: is Kenya a vassal state? I say Certified loyalty brings a bit of autonomy!

But since he did not put his money where his mouth was, and he was the man in the thick of intelligence, I just yawned. If any local organisation spies for a foreign power, that is of course treason. No two ways about that.
