A final problem with 'Christian Relief and Development' is that while the contributors do well to argue for "wholistic" development, reminding readers that it is more than material progress, they fail to discuss the political component of development. One way of defining "wholistic development" is to suggest that it contains three elements: economic, social, and political. The first relates to improving economic growth, creating new employment opportunities, producing a standard of living by which everyone's basic needs can be fulfilled, etc. The second relates to questions of distribution of resources, access to education and health services, social mobility, and so forth. The third relates to the distribution of political power, and to issues of personal freedom, civil and political lights, the vibrancy of "civil society," and the degree of choice individuals and communities have over decisions affecting them. This "political" component of wholistic development is important because the Christian view of human nature indicates that people are created for freedom and creativity, for association with others, and for enjoyment of vocational pursuits as God leads.

Doing so requires an examination of the right role of government in the society. Development projects at the grassroots level occur inside a larger, "macro" political context. In most LDCs, that larger context is authoritarian or "formally democratic," i. e., governments are elected but political power is tightly controlled by bureaucratic elites, legislative authority is dominated by the executive branch, political parties are inaccessible for most people. In either case, there may be little diffusion of political power and little ability for local communities to organize to defend their rights. Patron -client relations may the norm at the macro level, and there may be a noticeable bias of political power (and resource distribution) towards urban centers.

Starting in the 1960s, a great wind of renewal blew through the churches. They began to take their social mission seriously: lay persons committed themselves to work among the poor, charismatic bishops and priests encouraged the calls for progress and national modernization. ....

The creation of the Ecumenical Association of Third World Theologians (EATWOT) in 1976 and the congresses it has held: Dar es Salaam in 1976, Accra in 1977, Wennappuwa, Sri Lanka, in 1979, Situ Paulo in 1980, Geneva in 1983, Oaxtepec, Mexico, in 1986. All these produced Final Conclusions with their particular characteristics, but all within the framework of liberation theology.

I took a course in liberation theology as an undergraduate, and it really got me thinking. I wanted to go to Latin America when I graduated, but my professor encouraged me to stay and discover the poor of my own country. So I got involved in Andre House, a Catholic Worker community in Phoenix. That was a wonderful experience because the broad categories of "poor," "solidarity," "justice" were made flesh. They became concrete, and my own faith was transformed there as well.

THE DEAD-END OF THE TECHNOCRATIC 'CONTROL MODEL.'

I feel the need to put a sharp footnote here, to register my fears, that the model the British establishment, under the Cameron-Blair tandem wish to secretly impose upon us, using the Jubilee regime as their asset and local agent, has actually run its historical course on the international stage. So to speak, we can bear witness, that despite the awesome infrastructure at their the beck and call to manipulate the population, especially in their very home countries, the high priests of this model can barely disguise its cluelessness in running those 'mature' societies for the better.

On paper, it of course looks great to have a ''meritocratic technocracy'' running the affairs of state. Trusted and competent. This, on the face of it, would be reasoned to ensure sanity, by preventing incompetent and lazy politicians from muddying the waters and ever making a mess of everything! But in practice, as any elementary knowledge of politicology will testify, such a select group soon develops its own illusions of divinity, exclusivity, and, in reckless arrogance, condenses into a caste of demi-gods beyond any democratic control. They become a race of gods unto themselves, conceited and always right, always despising the mass, dictating solutions and shaping the society in their own image, yet all they are is a parasitic cyst, –--indeed a mere inert aristocracy taking care of nothing but their own privileges, manipulating the public good and always having the last laugh, so long the game lasts.

A technocratic meritocracy beyond public and political accountability and control, is, plainly speaking, the old royal family rule by divine mandate. We know how it ends –--with the liquidation of the royal family or its marginalisation to a cultural artefact, like the Vatican. At an ideological level, Renaissance –--the great awakening, already put paid to these ''heavenly mandates and blue-blooded'' coins.

But while the ideological level can state, and edifice in a constitution, that all man is born equal before god and law, we know the United States continued to be a slave-owning society for over a century after her founding fathers enshrined that renaissance thinking. And, on another example, while the French revolution had abolished slavery, how be it soon after we had Bonapartism re-instituting the institute! Nearer to home, I believe torture has always been illegal in the laws of Kenya ever since the 'British left', but that does not mean the post-independence Opiyo's of the dread special branch, once squattering at Nyayo and Nyati Houses in the centre of Nairobi, would be out of their place in a CIA safe house dedicated to the waterboarding of Muslim Al-Qaida suspects.

Alas, after the demise of the Soviet Union which for a time checked their global adventures, they did not erect a secure world order, but instead, by their pervasive greed and conceit, finally drove their home countries to a financial crisis they could not export with impunity as of old; indeed, this crisis has further alienated the people of the first world from their traditional ruling class, a class which, even if supposedly singing a different ideological tune like the Hollande Socialists of France, all end up wholly subservient to Hot Finance in its neo-liberal fantasy. And so enter the fascists in some countries like France and The Netherlands, and the extreme left in others like Greece and Spain. The centre caves in.

European Central Bank Chair Mr Draghi has been dogged by controversy over the accounting tricks conducted by Italy and other nations on the eurozone periphery as they tried to squeeze into the single currency a decade ago. By using complex derivatives, Italy and Greece were able to slim down the apparent size of their government debt, which euro rules mandated shouldn't be above 60 per cent of the size of the economy. And the brains behind several of those derivatives were the men and women of Goldman Sachs.

Well, to avert looming bankruptcy's, these metropolitan powers have been forced to revert to the time-tested formulas of old-fashioned gangster capitalism, which is outright plunder by military diktat. For this –--(dealing with the deficit)--- reason … and on orders from the oil industry in this case, Bush and Blair went to war to confiscate Iraqi oil resources and state funds; and, recently, thinking Libya was a sitting duck, a crisis-ridden EU (organised in NATO) aggressively sought to steal Libya's wealth (and the Gadaffi fortune of course), all to finance the recapitalisation of the EU's banks, looted by technocratic oligarchs running loan scams. This technocratic elite in concert with bureaucratic aristocrats outside the control of the weak politicians, form a clear and present danger, much like Dwight Eisenhower once said of the MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX: a dark force holding government and the (American) people hostage.

The European Central Bank, another crucial player in the sovereign debt drama, is under ex-Goldman management, and the investment bank's alumni hold sway in the corridors of power in almost every European nation, as they have done in the US throughout the financial crisis. Even before the upheaval in Italy, there was no sign of Goldman Sachs living down its nickname as "the Vampire Squid", and now that its tentacles reach to the top of the eurozone, sceptical voices are raising questions over its influence. When the former Goldman Sachs executive who runs the European Central Bank (ECB) announced that he was going to print 720 billion euros annually with which to purchase bad debts from the politically connected big banks, the euro sank and the stock market and Swiss France shot up.

As in the US, quantitative easing (QE) serves to enrich the already rich. It has no other purpose.

The well-heeled financial institutions that bought up the troubled sovereign debt of Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Spain at low prices will now sell the bonds to the ECB for high prices. And despite depression level unemployment in most of Europe and austerity imposed on citizens, the stock market rose in anticipation that much of the 60 billion new euros that will be created each month will find its way into equity prices. Liquidity fuels the stock market.
Where else can the money to go? Some will go into Swiss francs and some into gold while gold is still available, but for the most part the ECB is running the printing press in order to boost the wealth of the stock-owning One Percent. The Federal Reserve and the ECB have taken the West back to the days when a handful of aristocrats owned everything.

The stock markets are bubbles blown by central bank money creation. On the basis of traditional reasoning there is no sound reason to be in equities, and sound investors have avoided them.

Thwarted from looting the populations of the third world with Impunity –--gotta play second fiddle to China there, the aristocrats of Goldman Sachs have to loot from their own populations, and in that, they have to steal the future of young Europeans. And the youth know it, that is why they are burning an looting at the magnificent headquarters of the ECB.

Lets us take a look at youth unemployment rates within the EU.

The Eurozone jobless data showed Spain's youth unemployment rate has now increased to 57.4%, only marginally below Greece's August high of 58% - which remains the highest rate of youth unemployment for any country in the eurozone's history. Italy's youth unemployment rate rose to 41.2%, from 40.5% the previous month. In Portugal, it rose to 36.5% from 36.2%.

The startling figures from southern Europe contrast with rates in the north where Germany has a 7.8% youth unemployment rate and the Netherlands an 11.6% rate.

Who is running who between Tony Blair and Uhuru Kenyatta?
I want to sort that one out, so that we can paint the contours of the possible palace coup –-No, not Blair tossing Uhuru aside, but the interests of 'Corporate Britain'' supplanting those of China in Kenya, without a prior deal with Beijing.

Now that would be a real coup!

And of course once this issue is sorted, I can proceed to refer to Tony Blair as His Excellency the President of Kenya, and Muigai as His Highness the African prefect, Nyapara; or, in the opposite case, praise our homeboy for yoking a former British Premier to his plough. Good psychological revenge, seeing the British locked away Father Jomo for a decade at Kapenguria, and their Great Premier Winston Churchill used to call Africans wogs!

Blair, it must be said, is an old hand in the business of manipulation. For a decade he was the prime minister of Britain as leader of a party known as New Labour, the true heirs to Thatcherism. He had a mean spindoctor known as Alistair Campbell, and earlier on as he performed a courtship dance to mesmerise the Brits, it was Peter Mandelson running the script. This Mandelson was dubbed ''The Prince of Darkness'' by British Pundits, a kind of modern day Rasputin, and he was the next best thing to Machiavelli the British boasted in those days of New Labour rising, and lying. Ensconced between these two masters of the dark arts, Tony Blair became an accomplished and legendary liar. (and lied his country into a famous war in Iraq!)

I do not think Uhuru Kenyatta can be the tail to wag the dog in this relationship. Young Muigai is most likely Tony's toy as Podp puts it.
Then, to top it up, there are the kind of forces arraigned behind Ol'Tony to consider. For Tony is a front. Having fully mortgaged his premiership to American interests –--later earning the name Bush's poodle, Tony still occupies a ranked spot in the American imperial establishment, giving him a head and shoulders start on security information that may pertain to Kenya. Information being power, he can exploit that to run rings around our Muigai ... (remember Muigai is the kind of President whose plane U-turns mid air over God knows where, either because of unfiled flight-plans or God knows what else! Now, that kind of low bottom amateur is not going to run an old hand like Tony Blair, moulded by Peter Mandelson!)

Especially the section on EPZ's was a bombshell on me. Now, on 5th May, 2011, two things were reported in our pressitute. The DN informed us that: “EPZ manufacturers to sell products domestically once Bill is passed”. We mentioned these Special EPZs on 13th May, 2010 in our article: EPZs and Modern Slavery: Who Shall Tell Wanjiku the Ugly Truth. The other piece of news was a legal circus on the CJ interviews as we see here.

The Judiciary indeed has since gone mute. Jukwaa is strewn with stipulations thereto!

Firstly, when we set EPZ’s, we exempt the manufacturers located there, from a lot of taxes/robbery. That is fine. However, these EPZ people require some common services such as security and good roads. More so, since most of the manufacturers in the EPZ’s are foreigners, they are paid abroad by those they manufacture for. This means therefore, may be only about 10% of the sums involved per each product is ever seen in Kenya. If this is the case, we ask, who funds the common services these manufacturers expect? The answer is simple. The local manufacturers and their employees. In other words, through these EPZ’s, imposed on us by our friends, the poor of the poor of this earth, subsidise the mega corporations which are the buyers of the EPZ’s products. As if this was not enough, now, the plan is to have tax free manufactures compete with those who subsidise them.

And I read the following and had a long pause!

Among other things, you will notice these words

Cairo expects to increase the tally to 500 companies and 100,000 professionals by 2012. Kenya’s project in Makueni involves massive infrastructure upgrade including the development of a high speed railway system.”

Translated. The IFC, as an imperial economic strategy, is giving loans to numerous 3rd world countries to set SIMILAR projects. Do you think they can fund different BMW car manufacturing in 20 countries? Never. They will even bomb such factories were they to appear. Once these projects come online at the same time, they will be competing to sell the same standardised product to the same market. Therefore, the price offerings must be lowered so as to compete by all these nations.

It gets diffiult to look at the minister of finance going through his budgetary motions, and think one is watching a theater of the absurd, or total farce!
