BREXIT: WHY I HATE DAVID NDII
Gyrating with abandon to the tunes of ahangla in inner Nyanza, it is difficult to imagine the term Brexit registers any. It may be an earthquake in far-off Europe, but by the time the ripples arrive in Nyanza, if any, there would surely be no case of a tremor on the radar, however slight. Brexit, or its odd twin Bremain, is on the face of it then, a show so far from my bed as to be happened in another galaxy.
Yet that proved not to be the case, and how!
The ahangla session was rowdy, the musicians inspired, some giving the impression they were on hydrocarbon induced gears; and some of the dancers executed breathtaking, sinfully mobile bodily responses, which plainly argued why free-style dancing as a cultural phenomenon, will never sit good with The Church. The Church is of course a conservative social institute obsessed with the ability of Satan to use erotica to undo God's work. And indeed, free dance mostly tends to stimulate corpulation in its sensuality, which act is to market sin in the view of the church. By the time popular dance comes to the stretch where the women endowed of heavy weight rear anatomy are challenged to display the dense classical arts of their assets, many a Catholic priest would have fainted, (in mock shock of course).
The Church in Kenya is an excellent resort of hypocrisy of course! sexual healing is a standard repertoir of our horny pastors, and not just as a therapeutic instrument!
But ahangla drummers are (of course!) Morse coders too, in the sense of talking drums ---just like art from any sector may in effect be SOS's from the decks of doomed ships. Premonitional hoots. It would be interesting to gauge this theory by taking on a deconstruction of some art forms during the Weimer republic, or a review of the period thereabouts. The Weimer republic was surely a big Titanic. The Soviet Union, the other recent Titanic, was not always open enough with her art. So most are lost to history. --(Haya! But do we not have Tolstoy and the likes of Dostoevsky to fathom if literally art predicted the demise of Tsarist Russia!? Jowa nyithindogi, ubet koda nadi!)
Yes, closer to home, everytime the keyboard star dived into deeper chords, the drummer unleashed a tapatapata burst of rainfall punctuated by thunder, while the chanteur who doubled in with shakers (ajegejege) boasted with furious passion on cues from his heart:
'Wan Luo ma kata idagi! Luoland mielowa Luo! Ok ninyal! -Ongee!'
-We are the people of the lake!
The land of the people of the lake dances our beat with the firm tread of our identity!
Whether you like it or not, fcuck you! And away with thee!
(The away with thee could also be a Migingo compunction!)
Our popular musicians are of course keeping the occupation of Migingo a nightly vigil even as rumours abound our political elite has eaten something small from Museveni to shut up about it!
That kind of popular, uncompromising, coaxing re-affirmation of ETHNIC identity of course unsettles the urbane and sophisticated (like yours truly I suppose). Our types are wary of nationalism, finding in it a fertile ground for parochialism, xenophobia, chauvinism and related backwardness -all which bankrupt but emotionally intelligent politicians readily manipulate to hold Unionism hostage. Unionists my type are scared of David Ndii-like talk of divorce. I would be ready to dissolve Kenya, but only into the greater Union of the EAC, citing economics of scale. A dissolution of Kenya into Ethnic enclaves I would condemn as AN IMPLOSION, a negative historical tendency. (Even if I have evidence the ethnic enclaves of the former Yugoslavia are not doing that bad!)
This Unionism puts my type in, in British Terms, the Bremain camp. This is the camp which lobbied and campaigned for continued membership of the European Union, and ended up failing to convince the majority of their fellow citizens of the correctness of this choice. As I go to press now, The United Kingdom itself is up for grabs. The Scots want in the EU, the Northern Irish too, and the London pocket or islet in England. It is called Scotlond. The rejectionists they say, are mainly nostalgic Brits stuck in empire mythology, disoriented poor whites and old loosers afraid of modern dynamism with its population displacements. --BASTA people!
And it so it came to pass, that as the musician continued to chant and boast his credentials, my mind registered the searing hiss of uncompromising Brexit. Naturally, the most articulate presentation for divorce has been done by the Evil Ndii. It goes like: it is broke and can't fix it, wont fix it, so break-it up man. Of course the son of Jomo was quick to recognise the danger and respond with the unbreakable covenant quip. But the president was reading from a propaganda script, and it is doubtful a Kenyan politician believes anything, even from his own mouth telling his wife he loves her!
Between Divorce and Eternal Covenant then, who is right? who is with the people's heart?
What is the point speculating, we could ask Wanjiku direct! yes we could, but who wants to? That is, who, among the real decision makers of the land! None thus! So let the question fester below. Like a spectre which haunts every elite pretending to represent the historical will of their people.
A few months ago, the ancient nation of Greece (Hellas) proved too timid given the option of Grexit. They chose ritual rape within the abusive marriage of the Eurozone, instead of the adventurous path of finding their own destiny alone. Their historical self-confidence has been destroyed in the EU torture chamber. But England and co have proved different. Better forged. Why? Where did they get the nerve (slight majority it was), to dare the powerful fates arraigned against going it alone? How did they defy all the propaganda and scaremongering tactics of their elite, an elite married to Brussels and EU diktat? After all, the referendum was only conceived as a stopgap measure to reconcile warring factions within the ruling conservative party! It was not meant to disturb business as usual. But the British people (small majority it was) proved themselves immune to the insecurities and dependence mentality of their rulers, and defied the wishess of their financial controllers who all were Bremain.
There is a story of heroism there to be told; a dangerous narrative of an establishment out of step with their backyard.
What really motivated the Exit vote? what went wrong in the meantime, the EU/EEC being such an important economic factor, common market paradise, Britain so supplicated to join over 40 years ago!?
It is outrageous to ask this question of course. INDEPENDENCE is a holy word throughout history. It has motivated both nations, peoples and individuals, into tremendous risks, most more like suicidal undertakings.
Small nations like Vietnam fought Huge nations like China for 1000 years to carve out their identity. Small, protestant and muddy Holland fought the mighty Spanish-led Catholic Europe for 80 years to be itself. Unarmed Palestinians are daily daring the pathological rage of an almighty Israeli security apparatus, one which is effectively a branch of American super power in the middle east. The option of surrender is not on the radar. The Israelites themselves continued to resist the might of the Roman Empire to the point of total deportation, and they have outlived the once divine Roman empire! All over the world, great powers have always come to terms that there is no such thing like a permanent domination of a people, unless genocide.
The Vietnamese in their nationalist drive to Unification forced the later day conquistadores Kissinger and Nixon and McNamara to be pathetic war criminals; Dedan Kimathi told the English Queen to leave, Kenya is yetu; and every country has a pantheon celebrating her national heroes who paid the ultimate price for independence.
-Independence. It sure sounds like the holiest word in human history. It is the identical twin of freedom, atop which walks dignity. So said, bureaucracies interested only in their own divinity urinate on all that. But elsewhere in the real world far from office politics, it is recognised the process of achieving this (independence) in the face of hostile powers, a process which is called the liberation struggle, is, to understate it, far from painless, o no, is taxing to the core. ----Imagine a Chechen nationalist wanting out of Putin's Russia -aint he suicidal!? Tibetan out of China -Ululu Mayie? Uighur out of China -Uwi Uwi!? Kashmir out of India -Jowi! Jowi!? Cabinda out of Angola -Mungu wangu!? Puerto Rico out of the USA -wacha wewe! Ata Oromo out of Ethiopia -haki ya mama! and of course Kikuyuland out of Kenya! --wacha hiyo Pwani na NFD kwanza!
Aaah, you catch the steep! A spectre haunts the world, the spectre of national self determination! -aah, separatism! Can't wish it away! I am sure confident Kikuyus are toying with the idea of an African Switzerland in Gemaland. We live in those times.
One must therefore never confuse elite propaganda for the public mood. Elite pronouncements are more often than not informed by their quisling-earned fat than the general societal good. Elites of semi colonies and vassal states are especially bought, owned, contained and pawned. As their master's voice they thus must interpret reality very differently from their people, and must misrepresent reality to generate an illusive consensus, because the people are in the main interested in meaningful independence and measurably gainful ECONOMIC activity. That is why our elites rig elections a lot. The peoples will contradicts the elites priorities. So the peoples will bites the dust in the usual power balance.
Brexit could therefore just be a simple case of a colonial people rebelling against undemocratic, imperial control from Brussels. The collaborative ruling class caught pants down, can only go hysterical. They are saying the people made a mistake and are stalling in executing the wish. Independence is bad! Let us have another referendum to correct this mad result. Woi Woi! For the moment that article in the treaty of Lisbon will not be activated. Let things sink in, let us get sober here! They couldn't possibly mean Brexit! Heck, they wouldn't know what that means! The EU is a mighty fine thing, and has been great for Great Britain!
Yet even in the core EU countries of Germany, The Benelux and France, nobody is defending the EU as a democratic structure. It is opaque, an antic mandarinate of an arrogant bureaucracy, anti-people and a banking corporate interest controlled entity. Europarliamentarians are little less than clowns --see their none-role if any on the TTIP, and their no-influence on NATO's perpetual war-mongering toward Russia.
grassroots pressure has now force Hollande and Merkel to be anti-TTIP.
Outsiders like Marie le Pen of the Front National in France and right wing alternatives in Germany are growing strong enough on anti-EU platforms to threaten the status quo. There seems to be no historical alternative to democracy in the long run, but a fascist alternative to a fake democratic establishment is ever limbering on the sidelines. The EU has been caught pretending to be what it is not. It was always a project to contain Germany and prevent war between European nations by guaranteeing economic prosperity. But it lost its way, even its economic way driving toward war with Russia at the behest of the USA, and, particularly now, the austerity monster is incapable of delivering economic prosperity, even as nations it has helped destroy abroad, send in their thanks in terms of destitute refugees.
It has made some people very nervous. And they want out. But imperial Brussels wont change. It is the people who must change to support the Union! -The eternal covenant!
In Kenya I sometimes feel like a Eurocrat. --Insisting Kenya is an eternal covenant, and the rest against -like David Ndii's-- are hate speech! Then I feel as stupid as Joseph Nkaissery when he adopts that Kariuki Chotara dea-man's mask and behaves like it is a military regime we have.
That is why I hate David Ndii. He, combined with Brexit, has now forced me to imagine the dissolution of Kenya. By a referendum. And that in turn has forced me to imagine the restructuring of the EAC (East African Economic Community) into a democratic super-state to accommodate widescale autonomy, aka independent mini states! In effect, that stupid critique by Dr. Ndii, compels me to re-think the current arrangement which is, after all, Berlin 1875. Do we bring the people into the rethink. Bringing the people is a referendum of course! -F.uck you David Ndii! f.uck you x3!
Why am I so married to a Unitary Kenya -the Berlin template? May be because I am mentally timid like those homeguards who collaborated with colonialism against independence, were married to the British empire. Stockholm syndrome. Or because I am a conservative staying with the devil he knows, and wont take no risk for freedom talk and walk? Or I am like the slave who wont stomach the talk of emancipation, for where would he be without what he knows, the master''s whip and dogged reward?
Yeah, my loyalty to the united abusive marriage of Kenya could merely be a question of an addictive habit, a syndrome like those of dependency which made many black south Africans prefer apartheid to majority black rule. The whites convinced them there would be chaos -like up north there in black-led Africa! This is the same dependency or psychiatric complex Franz Fanon detected in Algerians who fought with the French against their country's independence!
So, what will I do when a colonel Ojukwu declares the republic of Kavirondo!? Recoid and declare him mad!?
F.uck you David Ndii, f.uck you x3! My mind is a sleeping dog which wants to continue lying! However incompetent Kenya is run, Union stays the best option. Now, I have been too much around the world to be that stupid.
And then in the break I went to chat up the drummer. What are you drumming sir, --juogi wacho ang'o anywola, lokna!?
Catch you later, alligators!

Since before TTIP negotiations began last February, the process has been secretive and undemocratic. This secrecy is on-going, with nearly all information on negotiations coming from leaked documents and Freedom of Information requests.

the European Commission is reportedly preparing to treat the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, or CETA, deal with Canada as an "EU only" matter which, if adopted, will exclude ratification by every national parliament in the EU, according to leaked documents and recent media reports that the Independent Expert discussed with various EU stakeholders.
