Yet for all of Kenya's apparent bravado, public celebration of those who wallow in adlib in the proceeds of the plunder of public koffers, below the surface is a palpable atmosphere of unease to dread. We sometimes call it The Great Seethe! This dread is interesting. I think it betrays a universal certainty, that the same public ceaselessly celebrating thieves in their impunity, is the same public which, with wild abandon, will celebrate the same impunity, but now expended in the summary extermination of the condemned Kings of Graft. That dark purgatory is like when the famed killer-cops aka Heszy's, look up from the Slums and take their hunt to the real jungle! wherein lurks the Big Games!

But for now it is the totally amoral characters who are the go-getters of our land, the high achievers in politics. It is the world upside down. Not yet John Githong'o time. The daily news is a catalogue of the elites' lack of integrity, void of dignity, obsession with theft and easy graft, yet, contradictorily too, DENIAL OF THAT REALITY! –--Oh! No, apart from professing their patriotism, they are righteous hard-working individuals who, like Kidero in his own self image, deserve every cent of their success. Those calling them debauched Hustlers are just detractors who, in their rabid jealousy, should go and MEZA WEMBE! And shetani of course, ashindue!

this is a kind of Jekyll-Hyde stalemate in the public space! It is tense and nerve-racking. Confusing even for the Headhunter Noordin Haji! (Noordin lacks the sure footing of our Heszy's in Kayole and Dandora, no!? Deadshots!)
That is an example of a stalemate exhibited: Heszy or Haji? Hide or Jekyl!? shoot-to-kill or prosecute to permanent injunction ala ex River State governor Odili of Nigeria!?

For this reason, the dimming of the stars of two prominent Luo politicians is a moment to crack some hard cultural notes, and jokes of course. Thereto can we hopefully learn whatever it is that can be gleaned from their current misfortunes, while not denying ourselves of our daily dose of laughs as is the nature of life. I am talking about the adventures of Evans Kidero and Okoth Obado. The former is now, just below the Hustler Singh, the reputation of a top looter, an exemplary parasite or kleptocrat; the latter is the King of Gory, accused of a double murder, one of them, infanticide. Between them two, the now notorious sons of the Lake, they straddle the whole criminal landscape! From the messiest of murders to the whitest of collar crimes!

EVANS KIDERO AND OKOTH OBADO AS FADING STARS

Of course they all protest their innocence. They have amassed an intellectual war-chest of highly collected and skilled 'system' attorneys to fight their corners, the aces Prof. Tom Ojienda for Kidero and Cliff Ombetta, a later day SM Otieno or Byron Georgiadis, for Obado! Of courtroom wars, you could say they are game.

But there is more to this than courtroom wars conducted by seasoned law-schoolers feeding off public loot. There are other pivots, other tangents operational. None of these other currents twirls below the other in bloody skulduggery. It is the way of history. And the very way of young nations in formation.

And today the Luo Pivot takes a cultural curve, a bit tongue in cheek at first, it is a messy subject:

LUO PIVOT: how can a man charged (together with his closes associates) of murdering his luscious pregnant consort along with his nearly born kid, remain in office as CEO of a Luo county!?
Is the principle of innocent until proven guilty enough subterfuge? a firm enough ground to
(1) suspend immediate resignation
(2) restrain immediate impeachment (failing option resignation of own volition)

NB: Resignation of own volition due to (criminal) scandal of course demands a highly-developed conscience and consciousness, and, to boot, a sense of morality, grin, chapter six. It is not a known course of action in High Kenya, resignation, a Kenya inundated with Fiduciary incapacitation, investigative disinterest, and of course the accompanying Judiciary inertia! The System as it is, Wanjiku ever paying the bad price.

But for the moment I am not talking about Kenya. This PIVOT, is a Luo cultural civil war ABOUT a specific public morality, IE the 'moral prestige' due of LUO public office. –--(I remember the corrupt Kenyan professor Swazuri of the corrupted NLC declaring publicly MEN DO NOT RESIGN! What a goat!)

And from where I stand, having taking the liberty to move aloft and trace the 'standing' responsibilities of public office as developed in 'our' history, and, later, as practised –----around Lake Sango and the gulf of Kavirondo (Wi-Nam)------- by legends like Ramogi Ajwang', General Waljak Ochieng' Ager, Gem Odera Akang'o, Wasonga Sijeyo and Ajuma Odinga, I am pretty clear-headed, decided and cold-blooded about it: Okoth Obado and Evans Kidero are vermin best relegated to DAMNATIO MEMORAE! Exiled to the House of the Shamed and Forgotten. (According to Marilene Albright, there was a specially horrendous place in Hades reserved for women who wouldn't vote Hilary Rodham Clinton! Well, now you know at least two Luos worthy of the place in the dark underword!)

But the eventuality of that eternal damnation would reflect a liberation accomplished. That is to say, in Cabralian dynamics, a cultural identity and historical personality re-institutionalised and operationalised.

One day long ago it was my turn to chair the disciplinary board. It was a tough job. Determined to press a joke for the young man before us had gone to Makerere law school and peaked, I asked him: --'have you heard of the Miranda read? and if so, did you read them their Miranda to show grade!?'

Yes, it is a famous scene. How does a prophet as wise as the gods but mortal, tell a DIVINE King to stop screwing his mum, get the hell out of town and absolve the land of the curse and anger of The Earth!?
Never has a sage had his work out for him than Teiresias on that day in Thebes! Precedent extraordinary!

Interlude: ON THE SILENCE OF THAT SPEAKS LOUD!

There have been campaigns in the county of Migori to replace late senator Ben Oluoch Okello, The Voice. But none of the people supposedly with the best interest of the people at heart, dared call Obado's bluff, nor denounce him a lowly creep who should vacate the governor's seat pronto, voluntarily else shovingly. No, all words are minced, all tongues forked, the peoples hearts are feared, too duplicituous for pretenders to venture, may be in love with the baddest guy in the village!
So truth is a no go area, it could be electoral suicide! dancing on half-corpses!

That is curious and need must be explained. Cynics will say that is easy explained: truth and politics never mix. But that is merely to confuse propaganda with politics, or children with adults. Easier is kettles must never call pots black! Harder is Politics is economics, and economics is a full or empty stomach. One can feed their 5-thousand multitude with five fish and five loaves to their fill in deed, only not on planet Earth! Propaganda and lies in politics are entertainment, and that too is an important human need!

But on this neutrality respective Okoth Obado's immunity from the sack, there is a tricky grin on Fate's face staring at Luos of a certain make. And those are the ones prominent in politics. When Uhuru and Ruto were indicted by the Ocampo ICC on account of the PEV, there was much scorn on their eligibility to RUN, and two, should they win, credibility in office. In fact, even within the house of Mumbi itself, the indictment on crimes against humanity was reason enough to toy with the idea of a Mudavadi presidency, or even a Kalonzo one instead of the Mungiki-challenged Kamwana. Well, needless to say, very prominent Luos were very vocal on the moral high ground: accused of such crimes, Uhuruto couldn't be anywhere near high office! Sacrilege! An abomination! Kenya an international pariah!

Idriss Muktar and Governor Ali Korane married into the same family marrying first cousins who are daughters of two brothers, one a former Military General and the other a former cabinet minister.

But thats not all, Idriss worked for former Garissa Governor, Nathif Jama, but left after they disagreed on how to manage public resources. Idriss who was recently shot, left to campaign and finance current Governor Ali Korane with a promise of a job at the county and as Ken Mijungu reports, there are reports of a quest for a clan settlement for the shooting of Idriss Muktar underway.

But that is another thread. The incestuous linkages are a thriller.

the mismanagement of PUBLIC RESOURCES in neighbouring Sudan, seems to underlie the other recent grisly, high-profile murder in Nairobi: that of Monicah Kimani. A RITUAL KILLING?

Back at Kodera forest in HomaBay county, the currently most famous pre-natal, the royal foetus of Migori county, a mere three months short of being named, had to pay a terrible price. Money alone as in a hired killer does not clinch that pathology Johansen Oduor reported on Kodera forest. But I checked this odd one out for you too. –-----Colombia and Mexico have in the past two decades reported the goriest of murder scenes in the intra-drug cartel wars rife in those parts.


Howbeit the (Cartel-bred) specialised killers who chopped up pregnant women with chain-saws had to be doped first! they had to have cocaine running their brains (as the New Yorker Grand Master Flash once sang in a landmark rap song!).
