the scramble for somaliai have just read somewhere that kenya will have a high profiled representation at the london summit on somalia this coming tuesday.i have also reliably learnt from one of my informants in london that somaliland has turned down the invitation to attend the london conference to be co-chaired by the 57 years old profesor and activist in charge of somalia one hassan sheikh mohammud and uk premier david cameron. i also gather that there are series of global forums on somalia lined up this year, from brussels in september and tokyo and that the somalia is providing a model that is exciting the imagination of many development experts in western capitals so much so that some are even toying with the idea of thrusting it in the global template as a replacement of the mdg which ends in two years time. the tuesday london summit on somalia based on the discourse in this thread and similar ones are compelling for those of us in jukwaa for more than one reason. there are those of us who are keen to determine the lapses and or expediency that informs the united kingdom's about turn on much vaunted home grown value on non-essential contact with suspects of worst crimes which could probably be this argument arguementwill there be picketing, demonstration or protests as is the proclivities of liberal brits who would protest at the pope and even margie thatcher in her casket? then there are those like my type who would be more keen on the overarching interest of the host and other "donors".we are interested to find out why africa and especially those countries like kenya who stood by somalia when the rest would not dare, wont continue with their support into the next but critical phase.i was briefly rwanda when president museveni was addressing some regional heads of states and he pitched his address on the africa solution to african problem.i thought i liked some aspects of his speech which i will try , if time allow to reproduce here or elsewhere later. bt again, see which are the first countries to have restored their diplomatic ties with mogadishu? turkey was stubbornly on board much earlier, uk is today the only and first member of european union to open its embassay in somalia. sop what should be kenya's position on somalia? do we have any? which kenyan enterprises, investors have applied for visa to attend the london conference? what does kenyan stand to gain by attending this conference and does east african community, african union have a common position on somalia?
