Jakaswanga, "son of Jomo" has done the unthinkable. He has rocked the boat that holds the trough where the Mpigs across the political divide gorge themselves at our expense. Will he continue down this path as the boat is sinkable and surely even his Mpigs can't float? Only time will tell.
Having watched his interview with Linus Kaikai on NTV last night it appears he is prepared to take the battle to the CORD brigade that hasn't given him a moments piece since RAO came back fully energized from a 3 month sabbatical leave in New Rome.
Sure he hemmed & hawed as he waded through the thorny question about his tribal appointments. But one thing is clear, he will follow the law, even if he has to fudge it, as he seems to be doing with Omamo's little princess. He swallowed his pride and admitted that Al Shabaab was involved in the Mpeketoni attacks, albeit in cahoots with local political networks, a position he should've held from the get go.
As for Orengo, caught with his hand in the cookie jar, things are going from bad to worse. I doubt Uhuru expected his title revocation to stick, as the Land Commission is conducting its own investigation on Lamu-gate. What has stuck is the allegation that Orengo is a thief. The circumstantial evidence is rife as Orengo morphed from a broke politician with auctioneers at his door to a fashionista with a penchant for wearing 500,000 shilling suits thanks to his alleged role in illegally allocating 500,000 acres of Lamu land. Orengo only managed to make himself look worse by pontificating about a list of 1,000 names which you have aptly called his akiba, much like the mobsters in America hold some dirt on their colleagues to use on a rainy day when the Feds come calling and they can negotiate a plea bargain.
If Duale is to be believed we ain't seen the half of it yet. Jubilee daggers are drawn and the next Luo doyen on their sights is none other than Gerald Otieno "Bado Mapambano" Kajwang. He threatened Kajwang yesterday that he's shenanigans at Immigration are next given he dished out 500,000 passports (citizenship), work permits, etc for gain. Jubilee has proof of the bank & MPESA transactions to his phone! channeling ill-gained proceeds to himself. Bado mapambano mapambano mapambano! ODM kwisa kwisha!
If Uhuru is serious, then fighting graft may end up being the Jubilee legacy. How he will accomplish that without sinking his own boat remains to be seen...

Interesting stuff on this thread. Is it possible that Miguna Miguna had some valid points somewhere? FINDING THE ORIGINAL CRIME, THE ORIGINAL DESIGN FAULT Otieno Kajwang and James Orengo are reputedly two of Raila Odinga's staunch lieutenants. And Agwambo valued them so much so that, when pleas and entreaties were not enough, he resorted to underhand methods to have them win their seats. One of his powerful pitches I listened to went like this: ''miyauru jok ma nyalo kedo e dira matek, ka piny pek! Ajimmy wuod nyar Alegoni ka umayoa, to mano uweya duk!'' –-Give me proven material who can deliver a fight when the country calls them to duty. This James whose mother hails from Alego is the kind of man who, if you reject, you leave me naked!'' NB: –--[We saw another variant of these theme when William Oduol was castigated and, in exorcist terms, disparaged in broad daylight in his home, Siaya, =his crime having been earning the peoples trust, or at least, benefit of doubt] The people being the people, never to be fooled all the time, were not convinced with Jakom's PR for Orengo and, with some mockery, they remembered the lengths to which Raila had earlier gone to ruin the career of Orengo, when Ajimmy had left the fold and struck out on his own, running for President as it were. So popular opinion remained divided, with more leaning toward scepticism as to the resolve of Ajimmy to put his competences and capabilities where his campaign word was. It would require the invisible hand of the ''tally-masters'' to sort things out, goes the legend. Across the gulf in HomaBay, there were other explanations doing the rounds too, as to why Raila was keen on the disbarred lawyer Kajwang' to carry his water. And they had nothing to do with Gerald's capacities to win arguments at the national stage. Never was a sycophant more resolute in piety, went a joke. Those with an ear to the ground, could not fail to hear the linguistic forecasts of trouble ahead, from the mouth of the doubting but sensible Toms: ' 'To yawa, Agwamboni donge odwaro rwako re-tread mang'eny rwok! Koso ok ang' ka mitoka ogoyo bump achiel to puncture omuoch, ji osekwamo!?''–---is not Agwambo fitting too many re-treaded tyres? Such that on the first major bump, there will be a burst, and the journey is stalled!? With the new Uhuruto crowd at the helm –--where the two principals are much more hands on due to their precarious hold on power as ICC indictees, the laid-back but supremely confident Kibaki mindset has given space to a more openly combative, adolescent brawny, and this has proved more challenging to the Lakeside-bred politicians who had grown complacent and absent minded under the dualist bonhommie of the GCG pillage. Rudely shaken awake from their GCG hangover, the Luo political metropole or polity built around Raila is being taught a savage lesson in bluff calling. That SabaSaba stuff must have serious blowback. I was of the opinion it has been out there in public domain, that Uhuruto and their Jubilee outfit were, from the very beginning of their unconvincing pontification of the tyranny of numbers, bent on banishing Raila from oppositional politics. –- They tried the bribery of a roving elder-statesman ambassador –--They went for one, Eliud Owallo, claiming he was brainchilding a coup on behalf of Raila. –--They went for segments of Amollo's business empire, targeting Spectre. –-Day in day out they rubbed in his ''unimportance'' , by repeated protocol put-downs. –--Savagely, the media were prevailed upon to exercise self-censorship and avoid SabaSaba live coverage.Just from the above only, the conclusion that Jubilee have been DESPERATELY seeking an opportunity to put paid to the active political career of Raila, looks an unopposed homerun. I was even thinking the expulsion of Evans Kidero and Dalmas Otieno from the caucus of Luo Mpigs, is a direct consequence of this power game!? Eh! Why would not Jubilee seek the weak spots in Raila's armour, and besiege them with a barrage of sustained fire!? Is it not so, that pawns and Queens and Knights must be neutralised in sets of attrition, before the King in his castle is check-mated? What really then, is Jubilee being accused of here by these minions from Nyanza!? At Jubilee wants to finish Raila!? How about this from Jakoyo Midiwo: JAKOM JOGI DWARO NEGI! And Jukwaa fell to with a ferocity no longer imaginable since the demise of the ODM hirelings. Well, Otieno Kajwang' is my senator, but since I wont vouch for his moral aptitude in the financial scales, my advice to my brother is fight fire with fire. The 500,000 people Duale is talking about are Somali refugees! Duale's hommies! ''I save his whole tribe from perishing, and now look at what this goat is alleging! Let him resign from Jubilee as he threatened recently over the pogrom against Somalis, and come to ODM where the interests of his people are guaranteed –-foolish goon!''

udm, udf, odm, urp, tna ...what happened to four letter abbreviations like KANU KADU etc! Jakakimba may say based on no criteria at all, but he is being disingenuous. He very well knows the party he has served so well in its inner sanctums! But now that he prides himself a victim! well.
Failed Conflict resolution. HomaBay is regarded as an ODM safe-seat. It is therefore assumed the popular party's nominee is the default winner and becomes the occupier. It is a homerun. This obviousness leads to a corrupted mentality. Becomes an arrogance which takes for granted the popular will. That this systematic abuse of trust led to a marked reluctance to turn out and vote for the pet National Project, does not seem to register, nor hinder recidivism. And that marked reluctance can of course be a significant parameter in the loss of the said candidate to the Jubilee hot-shot, last electoral round.
The delegates fiasco did not happen because of the short-time allocated by the chicken addicts at the IEBC. Rather, competition was so stiff –because the nomination result was effectively counted the election result, that it became profitable for the delegates to auction their votes to the highest bidder and be made, and, at the same time, the party administration could not resist manipulating the (non-existent) delegates' list! Intrigue and bribery, and a weak party structure buttressed by a confused ideology, are the ingredients which precipitated a [deliberately?] botched nominations exercise.
Continued.

Nyanza At this time, forgive me folks, I do feel a bit foul. I am not in a learning mood. And it has nothing to do with a hangover. It is just that things I thought could not really get to me, are getting to me. Things like ODM shenanigans. I usually try a distant amused look at events, world or local, but as this year ends, the humour in my heart is just drying up. First, the great democracy and self-appointed world policeman, the exceptional United States, has just proved itself a depraved country beyond measure. And it is my sort of kinsman at the top, this Obama fellow; verily the buck must stop by him even if the evil wrought was all under Dubya's watch. Under the pretext of war on terror, the country of God entered a moral cul-de-sac, was seized of a pathological state of mind in which anal rape (by fire-engine hoses turned on among other variations) are not defined as torture. It nauseates me to listen to my sort of tribesman Obama talk how he toils for civilisation, while he avows there will be no prosecution of the perpetrators. Yawa Un Kuere, A Luo-blood goes all the way to America's most exceptional scholarship centres at law –-UCLA, Harvard, Columbia, achieves the pinnacle of that society, then he looks at the world whose president he de-facto is, and says NAAH, I do not know the definition of torture, and even if I did, NAAH, I aint punishing no American who served his country doing it! Period. Utter barbarism. What a fake! Damn it! I got run back to CMG Argwings Kodhek! to find me a better Luo legal mind! defender of Mau-Mau ;)terrorists! I can not move on! I am pissed! (at the obvious retardation of Luo nationalism!) Secondly, the USA over-militarised police of white gun-ho's saw no black young man they did not itch to kill, which makes you wonder if it is not a subconscious acting out of a redneck fantasy that totally rejects the black commander in chief in Washington! –-Nauseating! Third, Kenya is set to borrow more and become super indebted, but common sense and good thinking now, is bankers are open-day global thieves, African politicians too, and church people like priests are pedophiles humping away at infant bottoms. That is a dark world leadership which invites more religious fervour. Man is a total failure! God and God only in we trust! O ye flock! So is Kenya being herded into the banker's slaughterhouse, the game plan to pawn her oil kitty, maturing over there in Turkana. You catch William Ruto in his goat dance in the neighbouring county and think Shiiiiiiiite! Future president got no idea of what's coming to hit us! Such a world does not breed respect in the heart of man. Such a world looks too much like the old bad world which civilisation and enlightenment is suppose to have pulled us away from. Such a world looks like the failure of civilisation, and pains my mind to see. Such a world does not let me enjoy my drink in peace, and totally ruined my Christmas I tell you. I couldn't party in a carefree state of mind conform my happy-go-lucky temperament. I kept thinking, bwaah, what is there to party –-parliamentary chaos in Kenya!? Odm chaos in HomaBay? Nevertheless I am an optimist, and being a lover of pus-sy, this our world which does not seem to have run out of good pu-sy still appeals to me tremendously. I have no death wish. So long willing, generous puss-sy exists, I wanna do exist! And into all these bad news, wades in the quagmire in my own birth turf: HomaBay county! Of course you heard, we recently lost the Mapambano singer Otieno Nyakwamba. And in the nature of things, we gotta replace him and move on. Time and tide waits for no man, dead or alive. But what does the popular party do in my birth place and nation? They sing Mapambano, OKOA Kenya, but they can not organise a simple village election having done a honest day's job! No, honest and ODM seem mutually repellent. Boy I suffer a heart-attack! Suddenly I allow myself an emotion I rarely show, -anger. As a teacher, I am used to dealing with stupidity. It does not anger me when I chance it. Parents tend to be even more stupid than their children in school! but that is another story. I am multinational in several aspects of course, but watching the HomaBay stupidity, my Jaluo nationalism takes precedent over other loyalties I may have. Especially now that I take stock at just how wretched Luoland really is. But this may be a passing face, because the visible wretchedness may be a ''traumatic hallucination'' due to my having spent a cosy few weeks in Switzerland and Scotland in the past year, and relapsed into Franz Fanon's famous quip about the native dazed by a ''diaspora motherland'' experience. Switzerland is organised, and it sticks in ones mind, even if only in the sense of a hospital tour which took one to an operation chamber, sterile and unworldly. Such is clinical and efficient, but passionately indifferent. Still, coy Switzerland with her opaque banks gives a hint of the possible in another dimension. Order. The Swiss are actually people, not robots. Nor ants. So when the stench of an overflowing public toilet hits my nose as it spoils my sight in Homa Bay, there is a momentary flash of ruthless irritation, before I conquer my temper and I become one with the new environment, and cease to notice the rot around. May be even swim in the bay! (Ha ha ha!) And much rot and sh!t there is a round. And it takes a tremendous amount of denial to overlook it. This time I lost my temper at ODM and I have not regained it yet. Take a look at the chronology of the latest ODM nomination fiasco, originally for the vacant seat left by GO Kajwang'. First was the amusing if bankrupt talk of Raila running, or being crowned. The most articulate expression of this view is the Ochieng' thesis above. Next was the talk of a primary run. Then a delegates conference. Then a rat out of the hat as per party statutes. In the event, it was not even a party rat, but Raila's rat out of his pocket. All this rot from people who front OKOA KENYA. My sense of humour dries up! Meanwhile Onyango Oloo TNT was having a field day in mockery. Everytime the word HomaBay comes up, he drops his head on his hands and shakes it like one disbelieving shocking news will! –-''Onjawore Onjawore! Okethore Okethore! Jo-ODM-gi Tabia Mbaya ndi!'' (it is a famous ahangla refrain!) At every stage it looked like the party honchos were playing a cynical game, shifting goalposts, collecting money from aspirants and keeping them on a paying leash, exploitatively manipulating a local ''zoned'' electorate profiled docile, bagged. And these same ODM goons were busy mouthing words like OKOA KENYA, while on the spot, in my hometurf, they were busy sinking HomaBay deeper into political rot by perfecting political corruption. What an insult to the people of HomaBay! Lo, what rile did we evoke in the hearts of the gods to harvest such a cursed lot making decisions about our future! –-O Homabay! The political impunity whose King was KANU David Okiki Amayo revisited! [8-4-4s see footnotes] When in the same week a national (salted?) poll revealed the majority of Kenyans wanted Raila to retire from politics, I felt I could empathise. Raila appeared to me to have utterly degenerated into a goonish chieftain perpetrating the retarded kind of politics in Homabay, the kind which had held Kenya back for so long. The ODM fraternity seemed not to recognise how neatly they were parody-ing the said Okiki Amayo during the days of KANU supremacy. FT: Kwani this people do not remember KANU's one party rule –-the guy KANU chose was the MP, full stop. The corrupt arrogance of monopoly. Then I calmed down and looked at the other side. At Onyango Oloo TNT and his lot. If Raila retired from politics, what remained? I laughed in pity at myself! Jubilee! With goat-dancers like William Ruto and Baby Kenyatta in charge? –-that of course is saying a cobra is better than a blackmamba as a playmate! That is when I face the prospect of going to party over Xmas, with the lingering suspicion that Wanjiku was going to be in the custody of either viper, cobra of mamba. Obviously then the party is rained on, for ones mind becomes occupied with other things than hard drinks, exquisite cuisine, cheap talk and good butt! These ODM people with their pre-historic antics ruined my holiday. Just after my family had more or less recovered from a hard emotional hit. Siandagi molil kabisa. Here is a usual suspect. And so the self-destruct in own homeland leads to NOT YET AN IDEOLOGICAL SPLIT It is time to take on the Young Turk Wafula Buke, chief of strategy!

Just after my family had more or less recovered from a hard emotional hit. the 2 red high lights in relations to the Swiss probably you may want to mention something about that German uniter Otto www.history.com/topics/otto-von-bismarckdespite him both present day German and Switzerland you will agree that their systems of government are extremely devolved aka federal for Germany and Cantons for the Swiss. back to us in Kenya we need to agree we have been more of people driven rather than relying on bankruptcy of leadership from pretenders to the throne. the founding father was a disaster as concerns uniting us and his baby son is no different hence mototo wa nyoka ni nyoka stands out. take heart the Luo nation is starkly different from the Kikuyu nation. when the Gatundu seat fell vacant what did baby Ouru do he ensured all stood aside for the selection of the rabid Curia who has never hidden his disdain of tribal slur's who to him are the inhabitants of the Luo nation. that tickles baby Ouru and like minded ethnic jingoists to ensure Laira never makes it near the house on the hills. now flip the coin and see how the Luo nation reacts when similar efforts are done to bring on board Moses who never reached Canaan with the children of Israel. the show is very different. no whimpering into submission. eng. Okundi and ex PA bolt out and stand on initially unknown parties. that reminds me of one Governor Akaranga who karangaad Mudavadi in 2002 when the latter returned to baba Mo1 tail between his legs. Akaranga repeated it again in 2013 when Mudavadi returned to baby Ouru. his Maragoli ethnic group again used Akaranga to karanga his UDF nominee at the polls. so the Luo nation is also charting its path devoid of aping the Kikuyu nation and tilting more towards the Maragoli nation. that is assuming Moses is cast aside going forward remain optimistic and ensure your county fully devolves more and more so that the contaminations from those who hate you remain real as love is fake.

We want elections, not selections! --Homabay youth to ODM honchos riding the Moses caravan! A simple rhyme, a simple battlecry. It looks naive, infantile, even futile in the face of the gargantuan forces directed against it. The popular party and all her machinery, including the Dear Leader in all his glory, have made their choice, have selected, and what rests for the sheep is to obey. The peoples is to rubberstamp the party's decision. And who said it was the party's decision anyway!? But now of course it is the party's position that this was the party's decision! We want elections, not selections. It is protest sounding in Luo Nyanza against a corrupt, inept, sycophantic and retarded political elite, but, listening closely and between the lines, it is pitched at the whole political class of Kenya. The by-election in Gatundu which saw the emergence of Moses Kuria unopposed, represented another variant of the same rot being witnessed in HomaBay. I remember a confrontation, or, let me degrade it to a conversation, between my ODM brother and I. He had referred to Miguna derogatively as buya, a weed. I looked at him with a look I hoped reminded him of our dad's face when a form of stupidity he had thought long extinct in an offspring, sprung to his face with some atavistic surge of shamelessness. 'Miguna may be urinating in a nest he once felt warm in'' I told my brother, ''but madness is not the explanation of choice for his behaviour. The issue is to filter out how much the fury of vengeance has blinded his mind. And in that endeavour one has to beware, that there exists a risk of finding out the fury, far from blinding his mind, has only sharpened his wits, his tongue, his pen, and transformed him into a WARNING in advance, for those with the minds to see!''To save my brother the drama, I did not remind him if he knew the story of Simbi Nyaima. ''Hey folks, coming is one hell of a heavy storm. Its gonna rain cats and dogs! Lets go to higher ground. This is a submerge!'' The drunken merry-go-rounder's chased her away for a party-pooper! Nyando's Fred Outa, the one time organiser and burner of Miguna's effigy at his Nyando rurals –-or Miguna Miguna's Kano plains Nyalgunga as b6k would have it, found himself cowering for his life as missiles rained on his car. –-He may have forgotten how smirk his face looked when he recounted how Miguna was chased from a hotel in Kisumu, and later, another venue in Mombasa during his infamous book tours. www.nation.co.ke/news/politics/Four-hurt-as-violence-rocks-ODM-rally-in-Homa-Bay/-/1064/2571662/-/71ug88z/-/index.html Hired thugs!? Of course all the sheep were expected to bleat, we accept selections, no need for elections! Rasanga? another beneficiary of corrupt court selections. Oduol was rigged out for him over there at the rotten core Siaya. To insist on we want elections, not selections, we gather here, can only be because one is a hired thug! To write a book denouncing Raila's corrupt court, can only be because one is a hired Jubilee pen-knife assassin! The stupidity of these Jaluo Mpigs outshines even the moronic deviance of Moses Kuria! Let us see what Opiyo Wandayi warns. But first; Now to secretary for political affairs Opiyo Wandayi. Jubilee to blame! Remember my main man Mbadi, now party chair, when Men in Black struck at Kasarani? –-Jubilee action! HMM, one gets the feeling one of these days Mama Ida will be found pregnant and the inseminator will be .. no prices for guessing! Violent outfit? or just planely incompetent? --I should then think, following the logic of this Ugunja man, that Jubilee organised and instructed the ODM-Mpigs to behave as they did in parliament that fateful December 18th day in which my sister Millie of Mbita reputedly turned the male hogs in the house into a crazed feeding pack of wolves, by tightly outlining her robust hinds. ---Jubilee Jubilee Jubilee! seems to be able to do anything with ODM people! That is right: Onyango Oloo TNT and his Jubilee outfit, mobilised the state machinery to organise HomaBay youth to demand: we want elections, not selections! You could say, Welcome Jubilee, you have come to OKOA Homabay from ODM perpetual abuse of democracy! But the worst is this: these Wandayi things are the caliber of delegated Young-Turk Luo politicians limbering to take the mantle from the old guard!? But if they can not run Homabay village county, can they really run Kenya State country? –-One more generation of eunuchs courting a nymphomaniac (Sembene Ousmane revisited. And another old African sage revisited: O do come thee, thee of a hardier breed, thee that the task shall doeth to the peak; For these here are but feeble material of minds so weak!

Looks like Miguna was right. Luo politicians flanked by armed bodyguards shooting in the air to disperse Luo youth in their Nyanza turf! -who would have thought it would come to that, for people who only yesterday were mouthing SabaSaba!?how is legitimacy defined these days!? I have always admired Raila, for what he stood up for and went through during the Moi Years. But, as I told a friend sometime ago, perhaps he is just too old. My friend immediately thought I hand in mind chronological age, and he rattled off a list of geriatrics who had come to life and peaked just a few inches from the six-foot hole. What I actually had in mind was a certain kind of mental age. Raila seems to be (mentally) stuck in a certain period and so is unable or unwilling to do what is required for the self-realization he dreams of, i.e. being President Of The Great Republic of Kenya. His closest advisors seem to be all fakes, flakes, and other misfits ... forever dreaming up plots of assassination attempts, moles, and the most astonishing of jokes---everything one can imagine, except for the critical little bit of presenting themselves as a serious "alternative government", just waiting for the go! And to go with that, Standard-Issue MIB & Gor-Mahia-style hooliganism that the rest of the country doesn't particularly care for. But the country is supposed to believe that this lot would be serve better that the current ones? ..... Baba-na-mana "top-down democracy" would actually be amusing if the stakes weren't so high---for the Kenyan people, not for the players of the game. From Kasarani to Homa Bay, it's the same old story ... or so it seems. Yes. The history is there. But one cannot dine out forever on History. I think I have written it here before, but, if not, I will write it again: Ultimately, Raila's will be a tragedy (in the theatrical sense)---a Gulliver who, in the end, couldn't hack it because of the Lilliputians. But that is not all of it: here Gulliver has willingly chosen the little fellows that will tie him down and continues to play a bizarre game in which he thinks he is in control, even as the little jokers continue with the "threading". And, of course, ODM/CORD is in full support, by way of Accelerated Self-Destruction ...lemmings rushing, and encouraging each other, towards the cliff-edge. All in all, a real pity. Coulda, shoulda, mighta. Raila: could have been, should have been, might have been, ... But, alas! Baba ends up as Babu. And by the old shot in the foot. Self-inflicted.

It was the inevitable clash. If not Kidero, somebody else would. That is the way of the arena, independent of human will, the way of the forward march of history. Even when the champion gladiator's sword is painted the crimson of lesser warriors felled hapless,or domesticated to wifely sycophancy, -Raphael Tuju, James A. Orengo, Shem Ochuodho, Anyang' Nyong'o, the species instinct of man is still to rise up and face the beast. Risk it all like the solitary ''mad slave'' of Fanon in vain-glorious violence against the colonial armed machine. The world over, the underlying antagonism of master and slave, so well versed and polemicised by Frriederich Engels, is a burning fuel that must produce exhaust at the top, one way or another. Man is a daring creature, and there are other forces at work than self-preservation, so that even an elite must fragment in the face of material conflicts below. That is why a man like Abubakr al-Baghdadi can challenge the combined power of the USA, Saudi Arabia, Iran and the NATO, all united to extirpate him and his organisation. It looks a suicidal mission, so be it then, the Iraqi man retorts at the daunting forces arraingned against him. And strangely, it is not a foregone conclusion his own people, the Sunni of Iraq, consider him irrelevant. He is a proposed martyr. The better if Americans killed him, for he becomes a cult of hate. To fire a new generation of even more daring fighters. In the human history of slavery and colonialism, pages are replete with a day at least one slave had enough of bowing his head and offering his back for whipping, then standing tall to say No to the master, and paying the evil price of defiance. Spartacus was one such man. But the rebellion I have in mind today is less grand. It is intra-class. Actually, a disagreement between the nobility. In a strange way, it is even a proxy fight between the two most noble clans of Luo politics. The Odingas and the Mboyas. Our Luo war of the roses! Amollo Tinga, the Ceasar of the Kavirondo Luo, feeling the heat in his own kitchen and backyard, had gone on to bill the HomaBay contest as nothing less than a CORD vs JUBILEE show-down. Okundi and Kajwang' Jr. were in one sweep done under as insignificant pawns. That should have ended the issue, but perhaps the maligning of oppositional candidates in Luoland as TNA moles is a crying-wolf tactic which has lost its SOS immediacy, and some brave minions have decided to stand up to Ceasar. Caesar will get what is his, the presidential endorsement, but he will not have a free-run of what is not his, the HomaBay senatorial seat. Here is an interesting line: When small men create so much trouble, that the whole party has forgotten about Kajiado Central, the ground has shifted under Ceasar's feet. Kidero now faces disciplinary action which could mean being outlawed. That is suspended from the party, thereby bringing into question the legitimacy of his Nairobi gubernatorial tenure. That is not how you treat a small man. That is how Mboya treated Odinga at the Limuru conference, leaving him no alternative but to bolt and form the KPU. Perhaps this, rather than the Lang'ata tear-gassing of children, is the pop-corn show!

RAILA'S CULTURAL CANON IS RETARDED. Keeping in mind the KIMIRWA jibe to fence off William Oduol from the Siaya governorship. Come on Agwambo, do not be such a retard when speaking in dholuo. Always giving the most of conservative and archaic readings to legitimise a flawed, corrupt political process. NB: So it is a gone conclusion one of Fidel's brothers will inherit his Ethiopians widow? Lwam Bekele ObangeNo free choice for her in who to remarry then!? Now, cages, that is royalty for you! Fortunately, Luo culture has moved on. This 'inheritance' is a battle which has been decided one way, and won in Luoland. Widows these days, in the main, choose their own YOUNG TURK. During Kisumo 100 years of modern existence, the hit-song to go with it raised some kind of stir. It was done by Judith Owiyo, and somewhere the terse refrain went: An adwa(ro) n'okenda, onge ng'a ma tera! (My desire is to be married, not inherited!) -this is of course a very long shot for ALL widows, so the culture has to organise a reasonable compromise, a realisable dream: It became: I will be inherited yes, but by a man of my choice! So I wish to inform, neither with regrets nor respect, that Luo NYANZA tradition these days is a dangerous every fresh widow her young turk of choice --Man! man man! These culturally disenfrachised Nairobi Luos are fossilised in the 60s! -when Okuku needed must inherit Pamela Mboya! Gosh! vven young Jakaswanga here inherited one of his junior mothers who used to belong to Old Jakaswanga. Tradition of course has several opinions about that, all equally reasonable. Free choice tips the scales, nowadays. That is an important aspect of the second liberation the (in b6k terminology) ''Mysterious One'' himself fought so hard for! And brought half dead.So yes, we the subjects have eternal love for the first family of Luoland, we the subjects are steeped in bottomless grief for the loss of the apparent heir; also, we are filled with pain unspeakable for the departed Mapambano choir soloist, and we do ever bow in respect for your twain exploits fighting our corner, yet -O Great King of Kavirondo, thou must still be told to desist from exploiting these pains to emotionally blackmail Homabay voters to rubberstamp your handpick maiden, Moses. The the new era of free choice which has emerged as the going Luo tradition, charting and informing a new interpretation of the concept of inheritance, dictates each (voter) vote according to his authentic conscience and mind, and not be a mere sheepish bleater parroting the would be politically correct collective emotions of official, national sentiments. All at tears feeling the pain of the Dear Leader. Culture! O God culture! I go with Goebbels running for his gun when he heard the word! Amilcar Cabral: Culture can be used to oppress, the same culture to resist. Let us resist nonsense, even from the mouth of a god! Anybody caught the lament of the widow Vivian Kajwang' of late?

GINI WASEKAWO! jaluo in da House! –-Ibiro yie! Weuru adhi amer koro, omera. Kong nono ng'eny Homa Bay sani --let me go join the HomaBay mobs getting drunk on large campaign kitties washing the county. Having no policies to sell, the candidates feed need us drunk on the stolen money, so that we can be accomplices in laundering and not complain too much when the Greek crunch comes! (Pesa mashimoni).

CRUNCH TIME, DECISION TIME: NANI TOSHA?
Across the land of the Fishes cult, going by the hysterical hype of the ruling brigands ---what I might call an ODM parcel of rogues were I minded to echo a famous Scottish lamentation, Luo nationalism is obsessed of a Raila presidency. Odong' lisasi achiel --goes the rap. This elevation of a an elitist pre-occupation to the general aspiration of the community at large, is such a successful marketing strategy, that there could be an ugly blowback if boardroom deals behind the scenes prefer another flagbearer for NASA, other than the Luo supremo.
But that is a luxury problem. At the --hoi polloi-- bottom things have a tendency of staying the same.
But really, what is this Luo obsession with a Raila presidency of Kenya all about? Dare I say it is awaited like the coming of the second Messiah, as if this is the only historical window which, should it shut, the community enters a period of eternal mourning in a tomb of doom; one from which may be only a mythical Indiana Jones would liberate. But suffice is to say this: this Our man it-must-be is not specifically a Luo nationalist complex. Nay, the big 4 of Kenya are all, elites considered, obsessed with the presidency of the republic. And that goes in other countries too. I think John Githong'o put it best ---It must always be our turn to eat! This purpose is why Mulembe consciousness birthed as a Unity drive. It is a technique to try win the state house by block vote formation, or, failing that, achieve a very prominent seat at the high table of looting.
Regardless of devolution (15% national budget) the presidency is the perceived tower. It is invested with the power to loot with impunity on behalf of the ethnic elite manning it, and, hopefully, a fat river of trickle-down economics for the rest of the community. And for this purpose the sheep must be sport and vote their ram. Always the lesser evil in a field sporting only the cannibals.
-Oh what an array of plum jobs for the community elite, O what a heap of juicy crumbs under the table for the rest! Good fortunes galore!
The rest in opposition must just swallow saliva (as the president put it). Winner takes all.
Well, for Luo nationalism in the year in which the illustrious son of Kogelo lays down the reigns of the world's super power, albeit a stumbling and struggling one, I would rather put forward an alternative thesis, that it would be far a better idea to put reflection first! the kind they call deep thought.
Now Kenya is not the USA, but as the scribe William Ochieng' once noted, as far as Luo nationalism is concerned, Barrack Obama belongs to the Kogelo clan of Alego ---as his father Obama snr. This is in line with the prevalent iron-cast patrimonial consciousness, an interplanetary law.
In the backdrop of wider Luo nationalism, therefore, the historical ambition of the Kenyan Luo to produce a Kenyan president, an ambition which with Raila has become an all consuming passion, in as much as it appears a matter of life and death for us (and do-or-die for our aging candidate), it remains just another sub kingdom twist, a local and parochial preoccupation.
In fact, the removal of the water hyacinth plant which now chokes the Holy Lake in concert with the institutionalisation of clean and responsible county governments, not to mention the canalisation and deltarisation with Dy-ke of the Kano planes and lower Nyakatch, may actually be better national pastimes than the Sisyphoid elevation of Raila to the peak of Kenyan power. Because believe it or not, man Kalonzo or say weakly Mudavadi can easily acquit themselves on the job: that is the easy job of presiding over a lootocratic, kleptocratic comprador-ridden Nairobi regime. So delegated, meanwhile we remove the cataract in our own eyes before we play the surgeon over others. ---That is the reflection bit.
Nationalist craving for glory, correcting lost tribal honour and re-enforcement of communal pride, can meanwhile be assuaged by the achievement of Obama wuod Kogelo. --Ka Jaluo osebet POTUS, PORK aporkagi to koro ang'o?
It is not such a bad plaster over the deep wound which goes all the way to the betrayal of Tom Mboya!
THE RATIONALE OF ITS OUT TIME TO EAT
Ethnicities in Kenya are obsessed with the presidency because it is seen as an antidote to tribal economic stagnation. Crisis, relative contraction of the productive base or some other such economic description of dwindling fortunes has, historically, always necessitated the pillaging of other peoples lands and resources to bring home loot. Whether it is Mongol hordes ransacking Baghdad, the Spanish carting off Inka gold, the Dutch looting Indonesia, the Americans desertstorming Iraq, war-mongering imperialism or colonialism, the name of the game is pillage and plunder; to pay debts at home, stem haemorrhaging treasuries, maintain legitimacy and loyalty somehow ---but a few enemy skulls collected are okay for morale, no doubt.
In the same way the Kenyan presidency is viewed by the big tribes through the prism of a hunter gathering wolf-pack on a roll. It is a commanding station to oversee the plunder the republic's resources with impunity, and bring back to the tribe the rich proceeds. The richness of these spoils are true for the elites of the tribe, but for the mass an illusion. It is an illusion that the control of the Nairobi state, through the first Kenyatta years, improved the lot of the Gikuyu les miserables. If it did, we would never have had the Mungiki menace.
The Mungiki are essentially a movement of the lost Gikuyu youth, physical and economic outcasts. So too, it is an illusion that the 25 years of the Moi-Tugen pillage, improved the lots of the Kalenjin masses. If 25 years was enough for the likes of Kuan Yew and Mahathir to industrialise their nations of Singapore and Malaysia respectively, then 25 years of showering in loot and booty should have left the Kalenjin nation in notable prosperity --I mean, prosperous enough, confident enough in the permanence of their good fortunes, not to engage in large scale eviction of desperate Gikuyu peasants in their midst, merely because of some electoral mischief in far-off Nairobi!
The rage of the Kalenjin can only be economically explained by a real fear that they had not built independent reserves in the Moi era, such that without the control of the state, they saw themselves thrown into the abyss of destitution!
Of course lords like Ruto had gained tremendously, and stood to gain more by state control, but it would appear the roadside maize roasters of Londiani, Eldoret, Kericho and what have you, felt state loss was their death sentence. And that is after 25 years of a hommie looting the others! (and still no the prospect of a plot of land in sight!)
I therefore reason, controlling the central state is an elitist profit even if marketed as a community business. In the same way, some of course thought the Obama presidency would usher in a new era for Afro-Americans, change the fortunes of black Americans for the better. Howbeit for the lots of them, for the worst it did ---such that it was under a Black President a need arose to affirm BLACK LIVES MATTER!
OUCH!
Because Barrack had other masters to serve, the differences irreconcilable. Empires in their priorities do not work like that. There is an elite to serve first, and if there is nothing to TRICKLE DOWN to the tribe at large, that is just too bad. Whether black lives matter or not!
This is how I reflect on the prospects of a Luo presidency of Kenya, so long without an agenda for a fundamental re-organisation of how the state works, which means restructuring how the economic base works. As it is, we just want to loot instead of the Gikuyus. Kenya is a looters paradise and we have been kept too long away from the mouth of the kitchen! Were it not the looters in chief we aim to be, having forsaken the radical reform agenda, our Kavirondo counties would be reporting an alternative consciousness to the general Kenyan malaise of pilfering public funds. As it is, we of the Kavirondo polities bequeath ourselves rather well in this negative statistic. Even our own son, Eduard Ouko, serving as the imperial auditor general or the pharaonic inspector of grain silos, throws his hands in the air at the dastardly acts of the would be cleaners of Kenya.
It is a demasque. A powerful lesson in the hypnotic power of collective delusions. (But I am afraid historically it requires quite an event to smash nationalist delusions. Myth of Aryan superiority took the destruction of Germany. Apartheid Boer military invisibility disappeared at Quino Quanavale before a combined Cuban and Angolan armour, and God knows what it will take to destroy the Zionist myth of being chosen to colonially rule Palestinians!)
So here we are, slaves to the myth, that a Raila or Luo presidency would, if not revolutionise, then profoundly alter the fortunes of Kavirondoland in toto. I rather think it will follow the well-trodden path. Just like in Kenyatta 1, Kibaki, Moi and Kenyatta II regimes, it will be a bumper crop for the court and select clusters of clientele, nepotistic profiteers and the aristocratically connected, but for the labouring masses and disenfranchised of the Luo (hoi polloi), the stream would still be a dried-out trickle at the bottom, yes, all the fat and cream long decanted by the top class!
As they say and noted, after the 14 years of Kibaki's Othaya Mafia, Equity bank rose from a Mpesa kiosk to become a multinational, but no other area of Kenya registered a plague of jiggered feet like Nyeri, and no other nation of Kenya had young women as angry as the Mumbis at their lumpem men. Drunk, unwashed, aimless and disoriented, an epidemic of impotence had hit them hard after Man Michuki had opened the death hunt on Mungiki. Hordes of economically obsolete young men were thus deterred from the only means of survival they had, denied the last opportunity to be men --in gory crime. The genius from Othaya worked them no economic miracles!
And so saviours of the nation like Moses Kuria and Ferdinand Waititu were born into mission. Even the successful Keroche has to burn!
Of course the Luo who have never been there (at the cream-filled state house), find these reflections mere fables, and, come to think of it, these are risks worth the while of the elite. In history, an elite caring for the masses without a sword to its throat is an exception.
This is why there are such few Fidel Castros! A fighter for the oppressed is as rare as a kilo of diamonds in nature!
NB: This dilemma can no longer be avoided: NASA is a winner, in the sense it can offset the Jubilee tyranny of numbers, rigging or no rigging. But can the Luos forego their last meaningful stab at the presidency --(standing down for another hero from afar with the kind of bad memories they have of Kibaka Tosha and MOU's!); can they swallow and let it become his Excellency Kalonzo or Mudavadi!?
Once bitten twice shy. So a tough call. But not for me. We have had a POTUS, we can be magnanimous. PORK can wait. We are half full, it is not yet out turn to eat. We can afford to delay the pleasure. And a Kingmaker's stool is not a bad spot relative to the sitting arrangement on the high table! The crumbs, and sometimes a loaded bone, are still mouth filling!
And I will be back!

CALVIN BURGESS OF DOMINION FARMS TAKES ON AGWAMBO, OR?One can muse on the battle lines shaping up within the political economy of Kenya. There are plenty turf wars raging amongst the elite, of which we are increasingly being privy to, as they burst the traditional channels of conflict resolution. There is the one pitting drug barons against entrenched state looters of which the JOHO versus RUTO is the public face; there is the industrial catch-up race against China of which, in the motor assembly tracks, the recent entry of PSA Peugeot-Citroen and Volkswagen in the business, with plans and plants launched with much fanfare with the President as signatory, are hints. Feeling outflanked, old colonial power Europe is returning with a vengeance at the usurpist bastard Oriental, encroaching on the whiteman's god-given markets! A bit late. Foton China was here wayback in 2012! Or was that just a mere rumour: China with its ' African digital silk road', following the failure of India (Airtel) capital, moving in on Vodaphone's golden-egg-laying goose, the Safaricom monopoly? Well, it is thinkable Uhuruto's easy passage through the ICC included promises on their part to go slow on the LOOK-EAST SH!t of their predecessor, aka Othaya Genius. You never know desperate the EU was or is in its never-ending economic crisis which, with Brexit and the Trump upsurge factor, now becomes an existential crisis. We have also seen the battle of the interest rates cap. A president forced into populism in an electoral year is faced down by greedy parasitic banking fraternity, with his own treasury by mouth of finance minister and Central Banker, all trashing his signature on the bill. It is one hell of a huge spat if you ask me. Not to mention their patron saint, THE IMF, weighing in with venom. That is the wider world out there. But I want to go back to the smaller world around here, Luo Nyanza. Calvin Burgess versus Raila Odinga is a big local story, but with international implications of course. However, in a domestic Nyanza setting, they are just local land grabbers quarrelling over public land and illicit money, aka bribes: real or imagined MOU's about Campaign donations, or kickbacks or lobby fees is the beating about the bush way to talk about it. Raila's side is yet to be told. At another thread, I was in my element on the subterranean and not too subterranean mines in the relationship between Big Capital and locals whose territory is of economic interest to Big Capital Investment for huge returns. Something always gotta give, and not in the least, the relationship between local facilitators and Big Capital, once their quisling role is spent. (Footnotes from the Philippines, Papua New Guinea aka Irian-Njaya, Ethiopian Anywak, North Dakota Pipeline etc, will do at a later date.) My object of interest was Turkana as Oilland while her people are on the deathbed by starvation! The state looking on in feigned helplessness! Yes, closer to home at the caliphate, it would appear Lake Kanyaboli, like Naivasha, is dried up. Large scale investment for you. And the people? Like the Maa people, they have been herded away and some think their own King did the Laibon Lenana thumb print. -What a story! Everybody is crying wolf! Which should mean they are all wolves in a feeding arrangement gone wrong. That is not unusual in the animal Kingdom. No, Calvin does not want a Raila presidency. No doubt about that. Yaye, Agwambo, your former pet Calvin Burgess has become the proverbial serpent. After you helped him get community land on the cheap years ago, he has now grown fat enough to take on you and drown you in his pool of mud. He fancies himsel a top predator. The Great Agwambo is nothing but an extortionist hiding behind village ruffians! Luoland's biggest private investor and Luolands Greatest Politician are at it in public! It is a conflict worth a serious ponder. For its consequences are harsh. Whichever way. Chinua Achebe describes how the Christians took over Umuofia. They first settled on the forbidden land. This was the evil forest lying fallow and which locals were happy to see them take. And then as time went
. This is of course ALSO a quarrel between two limited land grabbers --for unlimited landgrabbers (Moi Kenyatta Kibaki) see other hectareages! That is the primitive capitalist way. If Raila grabbed Molasses land, Burgess grabbed swathes of Yala swamp. Investment. The thing is they should have brought, by their investment, enough local economic uplift to neutralise their original sin, enough good times to bribe the complicity of the majority, the community when it is land. O so so sensitive land! It is a quid pro quo. But if you grab land and at the same time fail to show the benefits of the development, local sensibilities are antagonised and in deed you will need ARMED PROTECTION. --Against a terrorist outfit like Mau Mau for instance! You also accrue the resentment well of historical injustices unresolved. Some of us will know the unresolved issues of land --yes, the so-called historical injustices, still ring around in such 'INVASIONS' as we have seen in LAIKIPIA this past week. He!? They are not Maasai! Until the small print where the devil lies. It is the economy stupid. [/i] [/quote] The thing is MOU's between Big Capital and Peasants end the same way. Big Capital unilaterally abrogates them once they reach take-off stage. Laibon Lenana wasn't the only joker taken for a ride. Calvin Burgess has grown big and now reckons he does not need Raila Odinga no more, even in Da Ker Madi't backyard. The Luo Ker is a faded and gone power quantity. Calvin has jumped ship and found grander patrons. In an election year, I have to remember the words of the injured man to his former spouse. --YOU PICKED A FINE TIME TO LEAVE ME, LUCILE. Calvin Burgess sure picked a fine time to drive the pile up Odinga's ars. But know your enemy: here is a little publicised incident involving Calvin Burgess's Dominion in Nigeria article will be copypasted in full as historical document of interest. Meanwhile lessons to learn.

WHAT IS THE DEVOLVED ECONOMIC REALITY, IDEOLOGICAL PROSPECTS OF LUO NYANZA?There is the pendulum theory of history. It goes like two steps forward, one step backward. The positive is, it always moves forward in absolute sense. Then there is the history repeats itself doctrine. The most famous is the Marxian --first as tragedy, then as farce. Local flavours can of course differ. Post-Mubarak Egypt with the advent of the Al-Sisi dictatorship has been referred to by some Egyptian commentators as 100 years back! But let us concern ourselves with our own tragedy, the repetition of the post-independence KANU regime, even as it adorns the masquerade. of devolution. For most regions of Kenya, party zoning means they are effectively ONE PARTY STATE ENCLAVES. Few and far between are of course the swing states or counties. Why, forgetting other polities for today, is Luo Nyanza an exclusive ODM zone? What is the narrative infesting Luo nationalism which, while it professes democratic pluralism, forces us into this unhealthy bureaucratic monopolism, this uncompetitive block-thinking of bleating sheep? This 'herd' unity can only be the behaviour of a nationalism under siege, a nation threatened by powerful external forces. Of course it could be a case of false consciousness, that is, it could be that our nationalism is under a fake siege, in which case the powerful external forces are but the figments in the imagination of an elite ---simulated psychiatric illusions, or manufactured and shaped fears deliberately manipulated by an adept elite to control the population under them. A contradiction exported is some breathing space created. It would be an adventurous journey to investigate what the situation is, but having no time to idle out in the field, I will just sit at the keyboard and theorise away. The family is at Church and thereafter out lunch, while I pretended headache to abscond God's grace, in preference my Jukwaa addiction to service. The only game in any town anywhere for any regime worth its salt, is of course economic sufficiency, first for the elite, but if they want to continue exercising the mandate of heaven, economic progress for the mass of the people must be a priority too. These days this is a democratic right, taken for granted, and that presents a considerable problem for colonial-style regimes. Such regimes in their fictional insularity, owe the general population at large nothing. The ideological position is like
. the native savages are contented enough with the twin dividends: one, they are blessed with the colonising, civilising leadership and (two) they are enjoying Christianising guidance! Only when the savagery of the independence struggles erupted did such myths painfully face up to their demise. Economic well-being at large, will require tremendous prudence with public finances, investment policy, modalities of rule and public participation in projects. Even if Germany's economic miracle after her destruction at the second world war is too far-fetched an episode to be mentioned even as an abstract academic exercise relative to current Luo Nyanza, ordinary common sense will still dictate the insight that, devolution-wise as we have managed public finances in Nyanza, we are on a paved road to bankruptcy and insolvency. Just like the American city of Detroit. Reading the auditor general's reports on Luo Nyanza, even if preliminary cautions, then claiming we are on the right track, will require a total illiteracy on what WASTE MEANS. Most African countries WASTED their first three decades of post-independence, and it is agreed that is how the Asian tigers showed us dust! In similar fashion, if ones eyes opened, and ones head observed, Luoland has been busy wasting its first period of devolution. That this wastage, written off as a child learning to walk, is also the general trend across other counties of Kenya, may be the tattered consolation for minimalists; but in the great game of world economies, our counties are just competing in a race to the bottom. While it is the democratic right of Bungoma county and their lofty governor to buy wheelbarrows worth ksh.4000 at an inflated ksh. 110 thousand, and Machakos to build its Tarram roads at German tarmac costs, and Garissa to CONDUCT all its business orally, I do not see the need why Luo polities should follow those illustrious examples of graft and theft! I think we fishy people should stick to the conservative market prices of the wheelbarrow, air tickets, entertainment allowances, and for transactions involving public finances we should always leave behind unshakable paper trails. There surely is no need for a Luo from Harvard to look sheepish like Man Rotich when questioned about Eurobonds! As a matter of fact, on the Luo pivot, I don't care a goat's fart if a Gikuyu Yale econometrist like Dr. Patrick Njoroge holds his tongue forever on the Eurobond, feigning illiteracy, but if he were a Luo ---O God! the kind of invective I would use on him! I learnt that from Omollo Okero in Yala. The former Gem MP taught: 'Omera, Jaluo ok nyal yudo digri, to pod eka oduogo obukre ochalo rombo ma wiye otho!' (why would a Luo have a digrii and still keep a head like a dead sheep!? Then he mentioned the names of the dead sheep! That Kisumu MCA's, while there is no water at Russia hospital, consume water bottles more expensive than vintage cognac per litre, get multi-million car-loans, pocket sitting allowances higher than medics, fly around the globe first class and rest at 5* hotels, do not look to me to be exercises in intelligent rule, no, it actually makes me think how dare we, Luos, dare think it rational that one of us can point fingers at others and yell ---like Millie Odhiambo--- you are a thief! Hubris O hubris! I see the speck in your eye But aint I blind, to the one in mine!(of course, flip side, the Luos have since learnt to do as the Romans do when they go to Rome. That is to be decomposed beings when they get to power. Mboya was clean, Argwings was clean, Jaramogi was clean, but look where that go them! Dissidence against state rot is not a profitable business, the new gospel reads! See Ouko the Auditor General is the cleanest you can get, but look what they are doing to him! You would think they would concentrate on Kidero's rot, but no!--Away with cleanliness, history allegedly teaches us! This [cultural] IDEOLOGICAL CHASM, is the headache splitting Luo nationalism, and rightly so! I am schooled enough in the Juju cults of Luoland, that is the juogi business and its PINY-OWACHO sidekick, to hint with a wink at the ancestors, that this is the problem which has given Princess Rosemary Odinga enough head pain to flee to South African Sangomas!)To be rotten or not to be! To incorporate the mores, integrate and assimilate into the obvious culture of loot and graft, the mobutocracy which is the Kenyan mode of national politics, or to resist it? To reject Father Agwambo's vaunted co-operationism with its second liberation myth, and, instead, revert to the Not Yet Uhuru rejectionism of Grandfather Jaramogi! This pressure to choose and define herself with respect to the future, threatened to blow up a fuse in the crown princess's mind. If she doesn't steel up, it will be 'lighter duties' for her, like it became of the other Queen, Anne. Well, of late we see the son of Jomo too, become rather erratic and irritable on public podia. These are signs that he is loosing mental coherence under pressure. The truth is simple. There are problems to be solved in real time. And he recognises his inertia. Frustration thus eats him up. But that is an abstract, the son of Jomo is not my concern in this domestic thread. I am rather concerned with His Excellency Jack Ranguma and the deputy county president, Her Majesty Ruth Odinga, fair winds be upon her! Wastage of finance and resources will lead to a financial crunch. To offset this, the authorities will revert to OVER TAXATION. The increase in rents -which will have an inflationary effect on the price of commodities; there will be an increase in LICENSE FEES, land rates and anything transactable. Parasitism has to be financed somehow. Where a modern, mature bourgeoisie would seek to earn keep and profit by value addition and the deployment of skilled labour to ever more complicated purpose, the comprador will be forced back to slavery modes and the bone-scraping polices of the feudal landlord. Sky-high taxing roadside mandazi sellers, vegetable vendors, mutumba spreaders, bodaboda idlers, and county ticket clerks competing traffic police at skimming PSV operators, are such feudal arsenalia of economic torture! This is my doomsday scenario for Nyanza. Broken like Greece. This is Robert Ruark in the 1950s. It is a talk between whites in colonial Kenya Now, let us upgrade with a little humor: Robert Ruark was a highly sensational American journalist who wrote some Mau-Mau-Kenya-based best-seller books pandering to the white racism of the 50s/60s Apartheid America. The two most notorious ones are called UHURU and SOMETHING OF VALUE. With hindsight, it is always important to look at the popular fiction of the ruling class of an era. One can joke around them like I do, but also use them to deconstruct the fictitious world view of the elite, to showcase them in their class complex of invisibility, or historical illusion of permanence. So do I reciprocally say the contemporary ODM party machinery in Luo Nyanza, triumphalist and ubiquitous -in full spectrum dominance so to speak, is warranted her ideological illusions of permanence and immortality. But it would be stretching things too far, to imagine the seeds of its demise in the long term are not already sprouting all round. The kind of criminal financial regime the ODM has run in my native Nyanza, beggars a ruthless historical purge. But to perceive 'criminal financial regime', perhaps one ought to have heard of, not necessarily assimilated, the concept of capitalist financial accounting or book keeping. Now, H.E Awiti of my native HomaBay was a CEO of a modern company, but try explaining why he runs HomaBay like he never heard of book keeping! (Talk about Rotich and Eurobonds!) That was when I remembered Robert Ruark's fictional characters ---or was it Elspeth Huxley or Karen Blixen---- who wrote stuff like 'The Maasais are savages with no concept of tomorrow! That is why they are giving us all their land for free!' 'Obado, Ranguma and Awiti have no concept of better. That is why they believe they are the best doing the best! And the people they lead have no concept of tomorrow, that is why they don't mind the terrible graft affliction of their rulers!'I love to joke. Draw inverse parallels. Because if I don't, I can't bear the current water shortage in Kisumu, because the hyacinth blocked the pumping ponds, 4 years into devolution. Of course I could get angry. But I like to control my anger these days and subsume it into jokes. A teacher is not a soldier. To a soldier the grit of a killer, for a teacher the wit of an elder!
