A Digital Essay from Onyango Oloo in Durban
Kenyan social media has been aflame with the announcement of the individuals expected to be part of Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta's last government. Pundits are underlining that Amina Mohamed, Mwangi Kiunjuru, Ababu Namwamba and Eugene Wamalwa as the losers and Najib Balala, Charles Keter and Henry Rotich.
Personally, and having sought counsel from people I respect, I would not put too much credit to the January 5th list. It could be very much a partial list. That is why I am not releasing my horses to rampage just yet.
There is widespread speculation that Uhuru has deliberately left open some slots for NASA and the opposition. Women should not fret too much over the non-inclusion of females in yesterday’s list.
In trying to fathom the dynamics of the announcement, I will resist the Kenyan urge to delve into personalities, tribes, personal quirks and strange rumours generated by the Fake News hustlers on Facebook, Twitter and other parts of social media.
As a Marxist-Leninist, this Onyango Oloo prefers to study the ideological and geo-political ramifications of Uhuru’s Machiavellian moves.
First and foremost, let us not assume that it was an individual decision flowing from Muthamaki’s hang-overed brain. Neither should we make too much that his deputy, the Born Again land grabber, was not there because at least two of his allies including Charles Keter were in yesterday’s list.
Secondly, let us not discount the possibilities of machinations from US Ambassador Godec and other Western envoys had a hand in shaping the line up for their own military, economic, technological and ideological motives.
Nor should we assume that the boys and girls in NIS and their Cambridge Analytica overlords and other foreign advisors did not have a hand in all this.
It is clear that Jubilee, behind the scenes applied some pressure on some of the NASA principals which led to the abrupt eleventh hour postponement of Raila’s swearing in. But my deep throat contacts assure me that Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and their colleagues have firmed up their resolve to stick by Agwambo.
It appears that we can afford to smile that NASA’s plans-on the impending swearing in, the suggested alternative cabinet line up, the economic boycott and the rolling out of the People’s Assembly is firmly on the right path.
Why don’t I pause here today as we wait for the rest of Uhuru Kenyatta’s list?
