Now sitting comfortably within a pact with Jubilee, Raila is busy explaining what he did while buttressing his root. The ripples are being felt - Wateng’ula is no longer Senatorial minority leader, Orengo is. Interesting times, and with the new dawn, Miguna, the General is coming back on Monday.
One forgone conclusion I can dispense with is that NASA is dying a slow death, after all it was merely a power-seeking construct which is no longer needed. Raila is sitting at the top table, surprisingly yesterday Ruto was singing his praises in Mt Elgon. Raila and Uhuru will shortly be touring the Country to sell their pact to willing buyers, starting with Luo Nyanza. Meanwhile the 'orphans' are still shaking their heads with amusement.
Significance is trying to forecast where we are going after the dust settles. The West is back on the drawing board to figure out how to rationally put Uhuru and Raila together in a government. Raila met Godec to discuss that only this week. The difficulty is we have a brand-new Constitution, which does not accommodate political courtship, unless of course it is amended. That will need endorsement of two third of the Legislature (both Parliament and Senate). All over sudden, the Orengo coup in the Senate makes sense! However attractive that idea, I don’t see Raila in Uhuru’s gov’t. It will take time and money – two factors which are in short supply. Raila is past another go and Uhuru wants to concentrate on his legacy – doctors from Cuba helps with that strategy. He has no interest post 2023, let Ruto tussle it out.
I perceive in the near future Raila will have access to the power without holding any powerful position. I am told he is being set to be like Aung San Suu Kyi, a State Counsellor. This position only needs a bill in Parliament, endorsed by qualifying majority vote 50+ which can then be rescinded by 2023. This position gives Raila an office and a pension. No wonder Orengo had to be placed as a Minority Leader in Senate while Duale hold the Leader’s post in Parliament.
