Great news! and folks dont forget to call into the KASS fm Saturday show! DETAILS HERE Message from Sang: To all Diaspora Kenyans: Following the overwhelming success of last Saturday's lively inaugural Kass Diaspora Debate, which aired on radio in Kenya and online-real-time on the Internet worldwide, the station management has decided to continue hosting the programme. The moderator has selected a topic that will undoubtedly elicit an equally lively debate. This week's debate tackles the main campaign plank of Hon. Raila Odinga; while we intend to visit President Kibaki's major campaign platform the following weekend. Please do your homework on the suggested topic, we need comparative experiences from the rest of the world. This week, it is going to be one of Hon. Raila’s key promises. We are all watching as Raila-phobia gives way to Raila-philia over much of the country. This weekend's topic is: To what extent - positive or negative - has Hon. Raila's Majimbo carrot, or stick, contributed to his opinion poll ratings? Is this MOU with the people workable in Kenya? The program will air on Saturday October 13th from 12.00 - 2.30PM (ET). This will be 7PM Nairobi time. Just log on to: www.kassfm.co.ke to follow the proceedings live. And in order to participate, please dial the Kass FM Conference number: 1-916-233-3333 Password 10250. Please mark your calendars. Listeners based in Kenya can tune in to the frequencies listed below. This edition of the program is generously sponsored by laywer Thomas K. Here's my maoni & assessment digested overally from the questions posed (& answers) on the Kass FM interview by Raila Odinga;
First and foremost his mastery of Swahili is superflous.
He sounded very presidential, confident, decisive and inspiring. Local matters held dear to Rift valley, like sanctity of land, devolution, the Moi fallout, were addressed in a very sharp way. The questions comprehensively covered most areas crucial for the presidential campaigns.
His answer as to whether Ruto was assured a place in his government was firmly decisive. Without stating explicitly, he left no doubt, Ruto is destined to be Prime Minister. His connectivity to the grassroots people can be felt through his talk for instance when he chronicles his day's events alongside Ruto, which included attending Darius Mbela's funeral in Voi.
He indicates awareness of where his pentagon colleagues are at the moment, and what they would be doing shortly after,..hence creating an aura of effective and efficient teamwork, a party management concept that is increasingly gaining favour (my opinion).
(Compare that with the disjointed team PANUA - does Kibaki even know what his team number 8 leader, Shitanda said yesterday, which goes exactly against what team leaders 2, 3 and 4 have stated? )
Suave and proficient politics was displayed through Raila's answer to claims that many of his ODM henchmen from Rift Valley were being accused of corruption. He clarified that mere accusations (could be politically motivated) could not form the basis for judging a persons credibility, reminding listeners that the justice system is still under Kibaki's control. He however promised to drop anyone found guilty of corruption from his team.
Without vouching for, or defending any individual, he indirectly implied by insinuation that if those being accused were really corrupt, then the Kibaki government would have absolutely wasted no time proving their guilt in court.
When asked about perceived witch-hunting of Moi and cronies vis-a-viz Kroll report,....he was quite firm in stating that the FEW who looted would be given a chance to voluntarily hand back the loot through a legally instituted mechanism, and those who refuse WILL face the law.
His decisiveness stands out in stark contrast to the incumbent's procrastination and wait-and-see attitude.
He was quite clear on devolution, breaking it down to ...bringing participatory governance closer to the people and ensuring the national economy is spead out across the whole nation & not just centred in Nairobi. This resonates quite well with majority rural residents, especially those in RV.
Most of the questions covered on the key issues affecting Kenya today,....corruption, tribalism, insecurity, land, devolution (Katiba);
On corruption - he left a lasting impression that his credibility on this matter cannot be compared to that of the incumbent thanks to the string of endless mega and grand scale looting (Anglo-Leasing, Charter House tax evasion, payment of pending bills to cowboy contractors etc etc ). He vowed to deal with corruption firmly.
On tribalism - he ensured his message of rooting out tribalism especially in public service was indeed a firm commitment and a promise to all Kenyans. His assurance to all - no Kenyan will be victimized on ethnic grounds.
On insecurity - he expressed how serious he took this matter, unlike his chief rival, the president, who presided over the Artur brothers fiasco and could not contain Mungiki instigated insecurity and other killings in Mt Elgon, Kuresoi, Likia etc . He left an impression that laxity and complicity to crime would be a thing of the past, scoring big by reassuring Rift valley residents that security will be provided by his government.
Land and devolution- he gave his comitment to the Bomas ideals. Promised to open up the rest of Kenya (outside Nairobi) for active participation in the national economy through infrastructure investments. Also acknowldeged that he indeed had specific plans for the relocated Mau Forest evictees, guaranteeing sanctity to their new land (validity of Title deeds).
I think KASS FM is proving quite instrumental in informing RV voters of the ODM and Raila agenda. Moi's sponsorship of propaganda through a rival radio station in Rift Valley is not working according to what they thought. It's KASS FM that RV wananchi are relying on for campaign politics, and KASS FM is accurately reflecting the situation on the ground in RV- purely ODM. Baadaye!
