EXCLUSIVE: THE PEOPLE BEHIND ODM FUNDINGA Serving African President and a former one, top local businessmen, foreign consultants, major companies and political parties, top the list of contributors to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) according to a document exclusively obtained by Abunuwasi.com Immediate former Nigerian President Olesegun Obasanjo, a son to Libyan Head of State Seif al-Islam Gaddafi former Attorney General Charles Njonjo, former retired President Daniel Moi aide Joshua Kulei, Adopt a light propreitor Esther Passaris, Kamlesh Pattni and several politicians make up the list of 72 organizations and individuals who have been bankrolling ODM. Also named in the report leaked by an insider who sought anonymity, are a number of leading local and international companies which include CMC motors, CFC bank, the UK based Land Rover group, Margret Wanjiru's Jesus Is Alive Ministries (JIAM), Pastor Gilbert Deya and his Gilbert Deya Congregation , a leading supermaket chain and a Canadian based Oil executive among others. According to a consolidated Statement of Financial activities, addressed to Party National Treasurer Omingo Magara, from the desk of Shakeel Shabbir in the Campaign Resourses Accounting section and dated Friday 9th November, Pentagon members William Ruto, Raila Odinga, Joe Nyaga, Najib Balala and Musalia Mudavadi contributed a combined total of Shs.46.5m between them. With Raila's Specter International holdings and Associates giving Shs.12.5m, Mudavadi contributes 12.5m, Balala parted with Shs.8m, Ruto 10m and Nyaga 3.5m. Jesus is Alive Ministries (JIAM) wrote a cheque worth Shs. 25m. Former Nigerian President Olesugun Obasanjo, Charles Njonjo and Pastor Gilbert Deya wired Shs.25m each to the ODM account, while Oil Baron Tony Buckingham who owns 30 percent of Canadian Heritage Corpration gave Shs.17m. Interestingly the American consultant who raised a furore of criticism Dick Morris contributed Shs.21.3m to finance his free services and even in the income list we obtained his contributions are entered as Dick Morris and Associates pro-bono services. A cheque worth Shs.50,000 by a group listed as DRC support group had their cheque returned. Friends of Senator Barack Obama contributed Shs. 66m.Gadaffi's son Seif Al-Islam added Shs. 53.45m to the account. Controversial businessmen Kamlesh Pattni, the Kamani family and Anura Pereira each of them associated with the country's top two financial scams - goldenberg and Angloleasing - gave Shs. 13.5m, Shs. 45m and Shs.107m respectivelly. Other major contributors include Nakumatt Supermarket holdings (Shs. 26m), Tony Texeira (Shs. 21.5m), Joshua Kulei (39m), Bosco Gichana (Shs. 3.5m), Esther Pasarris (Shs.1m),Henry Kosgey (Shs.20m), William Ntimama (Shs.5m),Otieno Kajwang (Shs. 3.5m), Tata Tea Holdings (Shs.50m),Land Rover Group UK (Shs.55m), Westlands aspirant A.a.Walji (Shs.7m) and Energem Resourses inc (Shs. 52.5m). A media personality and a radio station have also been named in the document in our possession. The total contributions by the date the document was compiled was slightly over Shs 1.7b. The eight page document prepared as an executive brief on the "Positioning and Marketing of the Orange Democratic Movement and the People's President -Hon.Raila A.Odinga" was prepared by the party core strategy team made up of Professors Peter A.Nyong'o, Edward Oyugi Akongo, Patrick Wanyande, Larry Gumbe and Adams Oloo also outlines a three month campaign strategy by the party and a SWOT analysis on its Presidential candidate. Though we have the entire strategy in our possession we will not publish its contents in the interest of fair play and to encourage standard political party competition. However, we can report parts of the strategy that have already taken place - top among them the whirlwind tour of Europe and The United States of America by Raila Odinga shortly after winning the ODM Presidential nominations in September. The aim according to the strategy team was to "starve" the country of Raila and create euphoria "similar to Kenneth Matiba's in 1992 and Mwai Kibaki in 2002." Reads the document, " as earlier agreed, in order that our candidate's campaign commence with impact, it is necessary that he exit Kenya to lay foundation for a grand home-coming...a lengthy abscence will starve the country of Hon. Raila and stimulate an outpouring of adoration that will take us to victory." On funding the document documents various pledges from at least seven countries in Africa, Europe and the Middle East. " (The Party should) tap into pledged funding from external donors including teh Federal Republic of Nigeria, Germany, The United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Venezuela, Libya, DRC Congo, as well as individuals and causes such as GTZ Network, Cyril Ramaphosa, the Deya Ministries and US republicans among others. Expenses on the campaign trail include Pentagon allowances (Shs.89m), Raila Odinga expense (Shs. 148m), fund raising costs which was costed at Shs 25.8m, pre-nomination rallies cost the party shs.165m, while the party spent Shs. 214m to have their presidential nomination at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani, and the consequent parliamentary ones, Propaganda projections stood at Shs.68.5m. Other expenses include training (Shs. 23m), production of the party manifesto (Shs.76m), hire of vehicles and choppers cost Shs. 320m, while Shs.75 million is spent on advertising. Manufacturing lies requires a lot of intelligence. PNU should know that by now. The fake MoU that was pounded in these pages for weeks died with a thud because among others the exaggeration was too obvious. May be if they didn't include things as stupid as sharia law and Islamic state etc, they could have persuaded a few souls. But they went for the overkill and got killed.
This garbage stinks the same way. ODM folks are not that stupid. If they were going to get money from the Pattnis, the kamanis and the deyas they would not be prominently listing those "achievements" anywhere in papers that can be leaked to the abunuwasis.
Desperate times calls for desperate actions. But sometimes the acts of desperation may just add to the sinking fortunes of MV PNU. 10 more days in office can make people lose more than sleep.

If they were going to get money from the Pattnis, the kamanis and the deyas they would not be prominently listing those "achievements" anywhere in papers that can be leaked to the abunuwasis. Unfortunately, politicians from both sides, PNU as well as ODM are quite stupid, and even more stupid than that. While a wise politician or aide might not put down a list of funders and donors in writing even within an only internally disseminated paper ("executive brief"), I am afraid that Kenyan Politicians have put much larger feet in their collective mouths in the past. So, the allegations as such could be quite true. Need not. Alexander

Pure hogwash and total nonsense! This is typical propaganda from hopeless losers like Mosaisi,... that PNU cyber propagandist in US (and Nyachae worshiper). I guess some justification of "hard work" ("kazi inaendelea") had to be made for the check recently received from Judy Kibaki.
I'll repeat once again, these desperate shift of campaign strategy by PNU into the offensive and dirty wars of propaganda only works against them, since they have ZERO credibility to make claims against anyone. Their lies and fabrications never add up.
The fellas can't learn a thing. And their modus operandi is always the same,...a PNU operative makes a wild public allegation, and shortly after, a fake "report" pops up in the internet.
Just a while back, after Raila publicly complained of harassment of Muslims by Kibaki's government and his signing of an MOU to stop that, a PNU Minister and another apologist cleric asked him (Raila) to declare "the true" contents of that MOU with Muslims.
Before dust had settled, PNU propagandists paradoxically aided with Church clerics, had forged a fake MOU purporting that Raila signed to declare Kenya an Islamic state under Sharia laws and such bullshit....see that.... Distrortions, fabrications and lies.
That was quickly picked up and widely circulated in the internet,..given more feet and dissemination by covert Kibaki government agents patrolling cyber fora, including that one lurking here at JUKWAA.
Shortly after, the Assistant Minister for Internal Security, Peter Munya (based at the Ministry where most of these fabrications are manufactured or relayed) stupidly asked Raila to name his religion,.....the next thing that popped up were cyber lies and email claiming to 'reveal' Raila's religion. Then came another "REPORT" that claimed Raila was seen in South Africa with some jujuman and witchdoctors...see that..ati that (juju and withcraft) was his religion.
Those came and passed.
Then a PNU operative, Ezekiel Barngetuny, claimed that Raila would jail and torture Moi if he came to power. Next thing that pops up....Moi's picture being hanged by Raila. That came and passed with the only net effect being that of further consolidation of ODM votes in Rift Valley. Yaani what we simply call ......terrible backfiring or boomerang effect.
Then as soon as ODM uncovered how public funds are being looted and siphoned into Kibaki's re-election campaigns,...PNU plots a pre-emptive propaganda strike,...and Finance Minister Kimunya & other PNU operatives just last week, asked ODM to name its source of funding,.....and then BOOM......they splash another list of fabrications and lies at the junkyard called ABUNUWASI (of all places),.......thinking its a stroke of genius.
That so called report neither adds up, nor makes sense to any right thinking fellow. Anyone familiar with ODM activities especially after PNU sent cops to break into the ODM secretariat and steal computer data,...knows that there would be no such nonsense as that claimed in the sensationalised report. Ati Shakil Shabir sending a Financial Statement to Magara with a list of contributors and such yada yada yada. Pure balogni! Has never happened.
First and foremost, this is recycled material that had previously undergone a trial run at Mosaisi's blog, who had claimed a while back that Energem, DRC and Pereira were funding Raila long before the presidential campaign season. It didn't pick or generate any excitement then.
It's now being sugarcoated with more entries like ...notice the DELIBERATE ATTEMPT TO INCLUDE A GOLDENBERG HONCHO (PATTNI) and ANGLO-LEASING THIEVES ( KAMANI & PEREIRA) and THE BRITISH (LANDROVER GROUP) and those whose contracts have been cancelled by the Kibaki government (PESSARIS). How stupid do these folks think Kenyans could be?
ODM would never be near any monies offered by Kamlesh Pattni and the Anglo-leasing ghosts like Pereira and Kamani of all people. This is a desperate attempt to influence gullible folks into believing that kumbe all these parties are receiving money from the same looters. Well, not working this time. It's time for change regardless of these desperate measures by PNU.
Then the stupid claim of the so called contributor called "friends of Obama"...yet another stupid one meant to stir a hornest's nest and create a ripple of questions both in Kenya and US. Then this other crazy one,..which politician would be receiving funds from Deya Ministries?
And this PNU fools think Kenyans will stupidly believe the claim that Obasanjo and Gadaffi (or son) would just sign checks to ODM. Yeah right! The motive is betrayed by the beginning statement of the propaganda statement,..ati ....."a Serving African president and a former one...are bankrolling ODM...yada yada yada. Holly molly!
Well since PNU has run bankrupt of ideas, and no one is listening to Kibaki's lies and false promises,...they may have no option but resort to these desperate measures. But I can guarantee they will all be to no avail. Kibaki toka kazi ianze sasa!
Let's wait for the REAL and TRUE dossier on how PNU is siphoning WANANCHI-funds, wasting it in Kibaki's losing campaign. Some people must be held into account come Dec 28th, 2007.

This story re funding for ODM notwithstanding, Dominic Odipo's arguments still hold sway with me and the majority of Kenyans! www.eastandard.net/news/?id=1143978991Who will win the 2007 presidential elections? There are many commentators who are avoiding posing this question, let alone venturing an answer. Fortunately or unfortunately, I suffer from no such reservations. As someone who has closely and keenly observed the ‘great game’ for many years, I have no doubt whatsoever that, barring a political earthquake or heavy mass rigging, the ODM torch-bearer, Mr Raila Odinga, will win hands down.
He will win no matter what the latest opinion poll says. He will win no matter what Finance minister, Mr Amos Kimunya, says about him and his ODM Pentagon colleagues. And he will win in all provinces except Central and Eastern, no matter what President Kibaki does between now and election day.Why is Raila poised to push the President out of power? The answer, incidentally, has been perceptively captured by Githongo in the few paragraphs quoted above. I don’t know how many of the President’s close advisors happen to be familiar with Sir Isaac Newton’s Third Law of Motion. For those who may not be familiar with it, here it is: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. To put this simply, if you throw a stone, the stone pushes you back in the opposite direction with a force equal to what you used to throw it. No one has yet refined this law for politics and society in general as Sir Isaac did for dynamics. Yet it is not hard to see that this law, or some crude version of it, applies widely in the political sphere and in society in general. If you attack or strike somebody, he will do something to hit back at you, if he has the means or the capacity to do so. If there is one issue more likely than any other to doom the President’s re-election bid, it is the ethnic factor. After he took over the presidency, Kibaki moved, by omission or commission, to structure his Government along markedly ethnic lines. He looked but did not see as the Treasury, the Ministry of Education, the Kenya Revenue Authority and other top State organs were blatantly tribalised. He failed to notice that the other Kenyan communities were closely watching. On December 27, the President’s chickens will come home to roost. The majority of the other people of Kenya will strike back with their most potent weapon, their vote. In tandem with Newton’s thesis, they will strike back with a force, not necessarily equal to, but certainly opposite. It is this Newtonian reaction that I see driving Raila to State House. And, as Githongo said, "the sheer arrogance of a ruling elite that is predominantly from one part of this nation" will come back to haunt the President’s re-election bid. Who wants to bet that the so called "consolidated Statement of Financial activities" is being manufactured at a Kinkos store in Boston as we speak. That said, we must also learn that ODM supporters have been the # 1 consumers of PNU's hogwash. We have kept them in business all throughout the campaign by unduely responding to their propaganda products. I know how provocative some of them have gotten, but maybe if we ignored them, they wouldn't gain as much publicity. As it was reported here the dye is cast on this election. There shall be no change of hearts. Whover will vote Kibaki will vote Kibaki, whoever will vote Raila, will vote Raila, and those who have settled on Kalonzo will most likely not change their minds from here on. PNU's propaganda antics have served only to distract ODM from going about the business of dessiminating the truth that Kenyans want to hear as enshrined in their campaign agenda. So boys and girls, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME DIGNIFYING what Abunuasi has to say, with your reactions to his junk. Instead concentrate your efforts on getting out the vote. We have but 10 days...

Excuse me for laughing out loud about that list but what I have found somewhat baffling is the level of amateur propaganda that PNU has spun. Much of it leaves me scratching my head as to who is behind it and even the level of competence.
This is great stuff for ODM I hope it gets out - all ODM has to do is remind Kenyans some of what Job listed above. Just when some of those issues are dying - like Anglo Leasing they scratch open the scabs.
ODM gets up and reminds wananchi:
Mnakumbuka uongo na porojo ya MOU na Waislamu? - Uongo ama ukweli? - Uongo!! Mnakumbuka uongo na porojo ya Rift Vallley waliposhikwa na makaratasi za matusi? Mnakumbuka uongo ati tunapinga soko la bima? Mnakumbuka etc etc
Great rally points.
Where is Macharia Gaitho to write one of those,"What the president's campaign should be doing" articles. PNU is desperate and it shows.

We have but 10 days... consigliare While I agree with you to some extent considering the source and the voices behind this new "exposse" of abunuwasi and the "Boston" boys, one rule in this business is also that you do not allow people to spread falsehoods and lies without exposing them. Lenin used to preach that some hundred odd years ago. The good news is that we are dealing with some hugely incompetent characters. PNU seems to have hired some rookies whose only experience was may be school yard pranks. It is easy to dismantle their lies. This made me laugh when I saw the list of who is who in the Kenyan corruption industry and that the file was an exchange between Shakeel and Omingo and it had all the plans of ODM not just the funds. Most of the info were mangled up so as to render the fake obvious. That said, I agree that once we expose the foolishness, there is no need engaging the PNU lumber jacks online or elsewhere in a pissing contest. That is their specialty. I think the ODM homefront is way a head of the game at this time to be caught up in fake wars. The MoU taught them to fight fire with fire and get it over with. The plan is to get ODM to come out and denounce the propaganda the same way they did with the MoU. Then once that happens to then ask the ODM, okay then show us your sources of campaign money. Not that the PNU will ever show theirs. This is not something PNU wanted to go into, but they are aware that the ODM has obtained some info on how they are raiding the Treasury and the battle here is to block the ODM from releasing that information by claiming the ODM too is getting money from bad people. That may be, but really robbing the Treasury is another matter altogether. If anybody is stealing money from the Treasury to finance this crumbling campaign of Mwai Kibaki, they are going to be held accountable. If the ODM is stealing money from the Treasury they too, will be in lots of trouble. The reality is the ODM has no access to the Treasury. Let the paper shredding continue but PNU is dealing with a very sophisticated ODM machinery with its own sources of intelligence information. There is a reason some PNU schemers are tetemekaring. Remember 2002 even when Moi knew he was loosing there was no panic at all. Everybody felt safe. Not anymore and that is a big part of the problem. adongo

To answer the initial question: it matters, but not all that much.
Both "parties" (ridiculous name to apply to them) have deeply tainted hands, both are entwined in corruption, though only one openly and defiantly espouses it (ODM), and both are receiving money from clean as well as dubious sources.
Nobody who believes in the Messiah will leave him because of Mary of Magdala's money, and nobody who wishes to let the present government continue, for lack of a better choice, feels different due to Pattni's ugly money-bagging presence.
The situation indeed appears quite comparable to South Africa, so I'll just quote a voice widely considered as venerable, from BBC:
"On Friday, the former Archbishop of Cape Town, Desmond Tutu, said neither Mr Zuma or Mr Mbeki were suitable candidates."
Same here. :-(

So what is wrong with ODM and Raila getting the funding from those people listed? They are not funding the thing from their pockets and the cheap plate dinners cannot fund the machine called ODM. Someone is, and you can bet they are not as clean as some of the people on the list.
It is therefore not clear why the ODM cheerleaders are all out screaming and calling the report names. None has provided evidence to counter that given by Abunuwasi.
What I cannot understand is why these cheerleaders cannot see how heavily laden ODM is with all the dirt from the Moi regime, and when presented with a bit of dirt from elsewhere they are beserk!

the problem with such propaganda is that it does not address the critical question: why are kenyans ready to dump kibaki?
until pnu or kibaki or mt. kenya mafia does that, it will always find itself unable to inch upwards.
