hallo every one,
may i start by appreciating your inputs in the the debate that i informed you about. it was not our wish as organisers to be simplistic in our thinking but we wanted to hear views like we heard from you all. thank you.
we have since decided to re-draft our topic of discussion to read as follows:
DOES THE DRAFT CONSTITUTION ADEQUATELY ADDRESS YOUTH INTERESTS?
Probably you can now react to the new topic of discussion.
we have also as a matter of urgency decided to rethink the appropriate venue in which to debate such a topic.
may i take issue with the expectation of the people that as students organisation we are supposed to take sides in the current debate.
my submission is that we are as divided as the politicians outside. those who are conversant with the politics here will bear me witness that there is a reflaction between students politics in the student unions and the national politics more so in relation to perception of different issues where may be as a result of disenchantment and brutality which we meet we tend to retreat to the national politicians for sollace and hence end up with their orientation and thinking.
in deed it is a challenge to the society to salvage this nation.
am not a conservative but the reality is there is no one to bridge the gap between the students and the civil society for example, to inherit the desired traits.
currently lecturers at K.U are on strike. BUT show me one member of the society who is in the fore front to either agitate with them or to bargain on behalf of the best brains in that particular university who are not attending lectures? let us be sincere with ourselves.
the current members of KIBAKI administration are yester years members of MUNGANO WA MAGEUZI, NCEC. KHRC. and so many other human rights organisations but what happened when they got in parliament?
friends let us not lie to each other that a revolution led by sons of former bureaucrats and politicians who have briought this great nation to it's knees will help us reach the PROMIDSED LAND.
those of us who believe that ORANGE or any other revolution, THIRD PROGRESSIVE FORCE or any other led by incumbent will lead us are "LOST" in the sense that these movements are mobilising for numbers to enable them capture power.
OTHERS
are advocates and practitioners of self preservation. they are agents of the current 'STATE' and are after reataining power in 2007 and beyond.
mark you, the era when students were supported for being EYES and EARS of the society as been abused by the same students and student leaders who achieved by either going to parliament or accessing other civil service appointments through political patronage.
we must reject to be used as GOONS by the politicians.
just to correct you we are ready to campaign for either side JUST IF they convince us what is our stake.
WARNING: WE HAVE RAISED STAKES IN CAMPUS AND WE KNOW WHAT THIS GREAT NATION NEEDS.
NOT orientation from hooligans in parliament or charatans and philistines who are self seekers disguising as human rights lawyers yet all they want is power and more power.
