And UK's House of Common speaks. hansard:On Kenya, may I thank the Government in their various public statements for not referring to Mr. Kibaki as the new President? Will the Foreign Secretary confirm that the Government still do not recognise Mr. Kibaki as having been re-elected President? Did the Foreign Secretary share my concern when the US State Department, in the first crucial hours after the poll, rushed to accept......... www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200708/cmhansrd/cm080107/debtext/80107-0005.htm

Link seems defective. What has the EU said? The EU Parliament is currently in session. The vote will be known anytime soon. Meanwhile here is the latest update: External relations Situation in Kenya - MEPs to vote on a resolution10-01-2008 - 09:44 MEPs will debate the situation in Kenya after hearing statements from Council and Commission. The EU has condemned the recent acts of violence in Kenya and urges political leaders of all sides to exercise maximum restraint and refrain from any action or comment which could provoke further violence. The people of Kenya exercised their right to vote in the elections on 27 December in a dignified way. They can now expect that their human rights are respected as the election results are disputed. Alexander LAMBSDORFF (ALDE, DE) headed the EU EOM (European Union Election Observation Mission) to Kenya. Jan MULDER (ALDE, NL) headed a four-strong delegation of MEPs to observe the elections. According to the MEPs, the 2007 General Elections have fallen short of key international and regional standards for democratic elections. On 27 December 2007, elections were held for the President, 210 members of the National Assembly and 2,498 members of local authorities. These elections were the tenth general elections since the country's independence in 1963 and the fourth general elections since the introduction of multiparty democracy in 1991. Raila Odinga is still contesting the final outcome of the ballot which saw the re-election of Kenya's ruling President Mwai Kibaki. According to the EU EOM preliminary statement, " serious inconsistencies and anomalies were identified in the results announced by the ECK (Election Commission of Kenya). European Parliament involvement Jan Mulder, Dutch Liberal, headed a four-strong delegation of MEPs to observe the elections. They were on the spot from the 26th to the 29th December. The other Member of the delegation were Valdis Dombrovskis (EPP-ED, LV), Horst Posdorf (EPP-ED, DE) and Johan Van Hecke (ALDE, BE). The EP delegation endorsed the preliminary conclusions of the EU EOM which says that "the 2007 General Elections have fallen short of key international and regional standards for democratic elections". These elections also saw " significant levels of ethnically based violence, including loss of life by a number of citizens", says the statement. The EU calls on Kenya’s leaders to address the concerns about the integrity of the election process raised by EU observers, as well as by Kenyan civil society organisations and by other international observers. The EU expects all parties to resort to dialogue and do their utmost to reach a political solution. The EU stands ready to support the outcome. The EU welcomes the readiness of the African Union to support Kenya in finding a way out of the present crisis. The Kenyan authorities should take advantage of these good offices. The EU also supports other efforts from Africa to the same end. Here is the realease Wednesday in Plenary: Slovenian Presidency, Kenya and PakistanInstitutions - 17-01-2008 - 15:10 The fight against climate change and resolving the status of Kosovo are among the priorities that Slovenia's Prime Minister Janez Janša laid out to MEPs Wednesday for his country's Presidency of the EU. Ahead of a resolution on Thursday MEPs also debated the crisis in Kenya with condemnation of the violence and a call for fresh elections. Ahead of a visit by President Musharraf to the EP's foreign affairs committee next week the House debated the situation in Pakistan. Mr Janša contrasted the position that people in Slovenia find themselves in now with that under Communism. In particular he spoke of the ability to travel freely around the European Union as the country has just joined the Schengen area. As well as energy, the fight against climate change and resolution of the Kosovo impasse he stressed the need for a "free flow of knowledge". He told MEPs that his idea would be to make this the "fifth freedom" of the EU after free movement of goods, services, people and capital. In this, the year of intercultural dialogue, he pledged to push forward this agenda. Kenya - MEPs call for elections but EU aid should continue says Commission [ i]Recent turmoil in Kenya following disputed Presidential elections was on the agenda Wednesday afternoon. There was a general call for fresh elections and for both presidential candidates to try and resolve the crisis. MEPs condemned the violence in which scores of people have been killed. Kenya is a recipient of large scale EU aid and in the debate the Commissioner for development and humanitarian aid Louis Michel said this should continue - otherwise the ordinary people of Kenya would suffer even more.[/i] [/u] Pakistan - condemnation for Bhutto murder, call for elections The instability in Pakistan following the murder of Benazir Bhutto was also debated by MEPs on Wednesday. Ahead of the visit of the country's President Musharraf to Parliament next week, members from across the House called for elections and stressed the importance of ensuring they are free and fair. Members also called for the EU to continue to support the people of Pakistan and stressed the importance of the country as an ally in the war on terrorism. www.europarl.europa.eu/news/public/story_page/008-18389-014-01-02-901-20080111STO18371-2008-14-01-2008/default_en.htm#

I interprate EP's statement on Kenya thus:
* That EU's bunge dont recognize Kibaki as the president. * That Kibaki cannot get away with the electoral fraud. * That ODM's leverage is best exploited through tact & diplomacy. * That EU's bunge expect ODM to help stabalise the country.
Thanks alexander for the info. I had erroneously mixed the two, EU's Parliament and EU.
