What is Kalonzo's political shelf-life in Kibaki's government; can he survive the imminent tsunami leave alone the snafus in Ukambani and ODM-K?

After earlier on thinking that Judas was absent, I saw an NTV video showing he was waaaay in the background during the signing ceremony. Maanzo the certificate peddler was also there glum faced.
Judas has never had any political cred insofar as that post is concerned. All and sundry know that he did not deserve it in the first place, and was merely political filler material to provide PNU with the necessary Parliamentay armamentarium to neurtralize ODM.
If Isacriot KM had kept of out of the perncious marriage of convience with PNU he would have been a player, a mediator with an elevated national status.
Instead he is just a water boy, a mere floor mop, for PNU to wipe their dirt with. What a useless hanger on.

In the link provided by AO, Nation's Bob Odalo writes:
What has however brought about the sharp rift between the MPs and their leader is a quiet agreement that Mr Musyoka is alleged to have reached with the PNU leadership on the resettlement of displaced persons, especially from the Rift Valley. The deal was hinted at by Mr Kilonzo during Monday’s press conference.
“This is a big fear that is being discussed at all levels of life in Ukambani,” says Mr Kilonzo.
“We know that Kalonzo negotiated for his V-P position on condition that he would help resettle displaced people in Ukambani, and we are strongly opposed to this. It is such a big issue that it does not warrant a decision by one person, but he chose to ignore us by sealing the deal alone,” says Mr Kilonzo.
Already land for the resettlement exercise had been identified, according to the chairman of the recently formed Ukambani Political Leaders Forum, Mr Davies Musau.“Areas targeted for such resettlement are Kibwezi, Masinga, Kangundo and Machakos,” said Mr Musau when addressing the forum leaders on Friday.
Mr Musau says the government had agreed to purchase the parcels of land on behalf of the displaced persons.
Remember Kenyatta assigned V-P Moi the task of resettling the Mau Mau IDPs in Rift-Valley? Ask Lumumba Odenda of Kenya Land Alliance and he will tell you that this land-for-resettlements-in-exchange-of-VP-post is a powder keg? And as the latest report on bloodletting in parts of Rift-Valley shows, a generation is paying the heavy price of Moi's indescritions.

This finishing line from the above post was also very telling. We all knew from the beginning that Kalozer Musyoka could not be trusted, and he played it right to the tee. He is rightfully being dumped because the people can't stand his self seeking ways and lack of forsight not only for them but for the country. Mr Musau says the fact that MPs who were hitherto close to Mr Musyoka were dumping him explains why the Mwingi North MP lacks the credentials to steer the community forward.
“Following the Kibaki-Raila deal, politics in Kenya will be different, only the best and the brightest will survive,” says Mr Musau. And let this be a lesson for Kalozer and all those others who think that we still live in the era of Kenyatta, Moi and Kibaki as president, Kenya has evolved, so these types of people need to get with the program ! Hate to say Kalonzo I told you so! Kalonzo was never a leader in any shed or colour. Now this crap of settling IDPs in Ukambani is precisely the kind of bull** that has led us to where we are and to think a government would even be thinking of such a thing is just plain pathetic. How hard is it for anyone to see that the real solution to the IDPs/landless issue in Kenya is in comprehensive land reforms? I am sure even Moi can see a problem with this deal. Kalonzo made his own bed so let him have fun. A lesson to any other politician out there thinking they can fool everyone forever!

Yani you accept a VP post which basically means you are at the whims of the president in exchnage for selling your peoples' ancestral land for pennies to MKM who have stolen land from their own? Hoe thick can one get. I recommend we start selling thickness, that way people will appreciate that being thick comes with a price.
Who thought water will one day be sold? I grew up in Mombasa where neighbours used to leave a pot of cool water outside thir homes fr passerbys to tak drinks from. Now water is sold and a litter is almost half the price of a litter of petrol!

I wonder whether the present cabinet will be dissolved to give way for a new arrangement? Maybe that is when Kalooser might lose out!
After the mega theft, MK moved fast to appoint his friends to all key ministries, leaving only those that do not seem critical. This point must have been discussed even though it was not stated explicitly in the agreement.

Kalonzo might be a dumbass, but even a broken watch is right twice a day. Consequently, I laud Kalonzo's efforts, albeit egocentric, to resettle the displaced from the Rift Valley among their cousins in Eastern Province. Hopefully, land will fetch their true market values and not the ripoffs of the sixties and seventies that natives of the Rift valley were subjected to.

Okhunyanye, The issue is once the govt 'buys' the land to resettle to IDPs in one area then the locals will have the same problem with them as in RV! Why? Cos among the 'Local' there are those also with no land and cannot afford to purchase it then here comes members of one community getting 'free' land from the govt? like it or not that is how they will see it. But on the other hand if the IDPs owned the land in RV and say sell it then as individuals go buy land in Ukambani then the local will not see it as 'their land taken away by the govt and given to the IDPs from RV'. Now again I repeat comprehensive reforms in land/land use etc is what's required. We need to come up with land use policies that are in tunes with the times. Land will never increase while the population of Kenya will double in every 25 or so years. If we all have to get a piece of land there will never be enough to go around and actually get used for viable economic activities! May be now is the time to start promoting large scale farming in certain areas while at the same time doing away with the mentality of 'I gotta have a piece of land uko ushango just because thats how it has always been'.

KM Kalooser was desperately struggling jana to find space next to RAO and MK, but his seat had been far away from the 2 giants but nearer Ida. He kept whispering something to Ida but she seemed to be paying little or no attention.
I hear some ODM-K MPs have just had a press conference to announce that they will no longer work with Kalooser. The wiper miracle is slowly morphing into a nightmare!!

A proper land reform process should also look into some injustices and grabbings that took place in the 60s to the 80s. People from 'Cendro' are landless yet the Kenyatta family own land the size of Nyanza! This family alone can settle most, if not all, of the Cendro IDPs. Simply resettling these people in Eastern Province will not solve the problem.

Thanks Politicalmaniac.
Two MPs, LSK and EALS have urged Kalooser to take up the post of Leader of Opposition. The suggestion is that he teams up with the fringe parties. I think this is a great idea. But having tasted 'power', will Kalooser make this move?
Freeing up the VP job to ODM would balance things out since PNU should NOT have both the President and VP slot. If Kalooser hangs on then his only assignment will be to escort MK whenever he needs to use the bathroom.

Kalonzo’s challenges mount Published on March 8, 2008, 12:00 am By Oscar Obonyo Even as a new dawn brightens up the country’s political horizon, following a power-sharing pact between President Kibaki and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Mr Raila Odinga, trouble is brewing over the office of Vice-Presidency. Anxiety is mounting over a host of challenges posed by the Kibaki-Raila deal regarding the mandate and authority of office and the ‘rightful cut’ due to ODM-Kenya, whose leader Mr Kalonzo Musyoka is V-P. But it is the silent revolt from MPs in his own Ukambani backyard that complicates Kalonzo’s political woes. There are a few MPs who have come out in the open alleging that the V-P has sidelined them by making decisions, which include joining the Cabinet without consultation. But the deal signed by Raila and Kibaki in the wake of post-election violence, details a raft of proposals, including the immediate creation of the posts of Prime Minister and two deputies. How the country’s 10thVice-President fits into this new political dispensation is a challenge to Raila and Kibaki, especially the latter, who invited the Mwingi North MP to Government in January. The grand coalition deal struck under mediation talks headed by former United Nations Secretary General Dr Kofi Annan recognises the Party of National Unity (PNU) and ODM and spells out a power-sharing deal between the two. Kalonzo’s ODM-Kenya has, however, entered into a coalition partnership with Kibaki’s PNU. This means that ODM-Kenya’s share of ministerial positions is catered for by PNU under the agreed 50-50 arrangement with ODM. The Mwingi North MP quickly secured Kibaki’s presidency following the announcement of last year’s highly disputed and discredited presidential poll results. Having acted as a pillar by turning over ODM-Kenya’s parliamentary strength in Kibaki’s favour, it will be interesting to see how the President manages the delicate balance between his links with Kalonzo and the new-found ODM partner. Unlike the Annan engineered deal, which is to be entrenched in the Constitution, the PNU/ODM-Kenya memorandum of understanding is a gentleman’s agreement — a fact that has heightened speculation. While Annan clearly indicated that the Grand Coalition Government would entail "the President, Vice-President, Prime Minister and two deputies and the Cabinet", the signed pact is silent on whether the VP’s position will be subjected to "horse-trading" in an exercise by PNU and ODM to strike a "balance in power and ministerial portfolios". Indeed the speculations have generated reaction from a section of ODM-Kenya MPs.Speaking yesterday, Kangundo MP Mr Johnson Muthama explained, "MPs allied to the party and Kalonzo are ready to serve in any capacity, in Government or even in the opposition". The Saturday Standard, however, established that Muthama’s sentiments were triggered by threats by some ODM-Kenya MPs to break ranks with their leader, Kalonzo. Some of the ODM-Kenya MPs reportedly snubbed the press conference called by Muthama, who is the party’s parliamentary whip. The occupant of the VP office, who under the new arrangement will not be the President’s principal deputy, is further expected to cede substantial power to the premier, including serving in the crucial capacity of Leader of Government Business. Political analyst Mr Mutahi Ngunyi says the arrangement takes off virtually all the meat that goes with the Vice-Presidency."The deal further implies that if the holder of the office has a ministerial docket then he or she will equally work under the supervision of the Prime Minister," he observes. But this in itself is not an impediment considering the strong mood of national healing. As Leader of Government Business in Parliament, the ODM-Kenya leader, who has publicly declared support for the current arrangement, is facilitating the process. The relevant National Accord and Reconciliation Bill 2008 is expected in Parliament next Tuesday."The agreement (we signed) must be translated into a binding Act of Parliament and entrenched in the Constitution. This will pave way for the sharing of responsibility of governance. I urge you to bear in mind that the agreement is in the best interest of country," said the President, in his speech on the opening of the 10th Parliament on Thursday. As if speaking from the same script, Raila has expressed confidence that the Grand Coalition Government will work for the national interest."There is genuine reason to make the pact work. In the past, a clique made it impossible but things have changed. Now, there is need for me to work directly with Kibaki since it is embedded in the pact. I think there is sufficient goodwill," he told The Saturday Standard on Thursday. Despite the national goodwill, the new political arrangement has raised a few constitutional concerns, key among them the absence of Leader of Official Opposition and party in the 10th Parliament. While hailing the Kibaki-Raila pact, ODM and ODM-Kenya allied MPs Mr Ababu Namwamba and Mr Mutula Kilonzo, regret that the arrangement will compromise crucial democratic practices. The two lawyers-turned-politicians are separately at loss as to who will chair the Parliamentary Accounts Committee and the Public Investments Committee. As per the tradition of the British Parliamentary, which Kenya has heavily borrowed from, the Opposition leads the two crucial watchdog committees. To ease the confusion, two leading lawyers have appealed Kalonzo to step out of Government and serve as the Leader of the Official Opposition. The Law Society of Kenya Chairman, Mr Okong’o Omogeni, and East Africa Law Society President, Mr Tom Ojienda, argue that the move would be in the interest of Kenyans and Kalonzo’s own political career. In a telephone interview with The Saturday Standard, Ojienda urged Kalonzo to team up with other small parties to form a structured opposition to act as a check against PNU and ODM excesses in Government.
Omogeni said the position of the Leader of Opposition is provided for in the Constitution, adding that Kalonzo should not let Kenyans down."The position is in the Constitution with its own remuneration, an official car, security, a personal assistant and a functional office besides a seat reserved for him in Parliament," he said. Incidentally, some political leaders from Kalonzo’s Ukambani backyard share this position. Former assistant minister and Masinga MP Mr Ronald Kiluta opines that this is the best option if Kalonzo hopes to make a serious stab at the presidency again. But these are not Kalonzo’s only challenges. Ministers Martha Karua, through Narc-Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, through Kanu, and Prof George Saitoti are positioning themselves for the Kibaki succession. It is unlikely Kalonzo, a political outsider, stand any chance in that race. With a ‘betrayal tag’ hanging over him, his perennial Ukambani rival Charity Ngilu gearing up for a national role in ODM/PNU Government, and Kilome MP Harun Mwau getting ready for national networking, Kalonzo could find himself a lonely VP – if he hangs on there. Ngilu and Mwau won tickets in Ukambani even after Kalonzo and ODM-Kenya campaigned bitterly and personally against them." The VP should understand that the new power deal may leave him and his party in a precarious position," Kiluta told The Saturday Standard. But Muthama maintains that Kalonzo be retained as VP since the party has MoU with PNU. "The pact between PNU and ODM is not in our favour except for one man — whom we wish every success as VP — otherwise the rest of us should cross over and keep this government in check," says Yatta MP, Mr Charles Kilonzo. Kaloozer's brobos keep on pilling ... Here's the link. www.kenyatimesonline.com/content.asp?catid=2&articleId=1693National News Kalonzo, Maanzo battle intensifies Updated on: Sunday, March 09, 2008 Story by: By EDWIN MUTAI .................................................................................................................................................................................... 16 ODM-K MPs told to vacate their seats Troubles for Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka seem far from over after his party chairman Daniel Maanzo wrote to the Speaker of the National Assembly to declare the 16 elected seats presently occupied by ODM-K members seats vacant. Maanzo told Speaker Kenneth Marende not to recognize ODM-K MPs who entered into what he termed as “an illegal coalition” with President Mwai Kibaki’s Party of National Unity (PNU) in total breach of Section 40 of the Constitution and Section 17 of the Parliamentary and Presidential Elections Act. “The law is quite clear that members who have now left ODM-K and joined PNU without the party’s permission have to cease from being MPs Parliament or cannot be acknowledged by the Speaker as ministers of government in the House as such appointments are in breach of the law,” said Maanzo. In a letter dated March 3, 2008 and addressed to Marende, the ODM-K chairman demanded that the 16 MPs, including Kalonzo should vacate their seats forthwith. Maanzo also wants the Speaker to stop the swearing in ceremony for the two gazetted nominated ODM-K MPs Mohammed Affey and Shakila Abdalla claiming that their appointment were corruptly and fraudulently made. “Mohammed Affey should be degazetted forthwith as his nomination was achieved through corruption and the President should not support appointments reached through such corrupt practices,” said Maanzo. Maanzo charged that neither the party, nor its duly registered officials approved or was consulted when Kalonzo shepherded his flock to PNU immediately after the General Election and thus the current arrangement where he and Kacheliba MP Samuel Poghisio were sworn in as Cabinet Ministers. “None of our party officials as required under Section 123 of the constitution of Kenya signed any coalition documents between PNU and ODM-K and no such authority was given to any member of ODM-K to defect to PNU. We will be grateful if you apply the law and stop this serious breach of our law and have it rectified before Parliament resumes its business. He quoted Section 17(6) of the National Assembly and Presidential Elections Act Cap 7 laws of Kenya thus; the concurrence referred to in subsection (5) shall be signified in writing to the President with a copy to the Speaker by the chairman or any other official designated for the purpose by the political party. Maanzo said the decision by Kalonzo to join PNU and the appointment of the two nominated MPs were executed illegally and without the participation of ODM-K as a political party. He said the law requires the party chairman to signify in writing to the President and the Speaker who is nominated to the Cabinet and to Parliament, a thing the party has not done. “ODM-K has not designated any of its officials to write to the President or you for the purposes of application of section 17 of the National Assembly and Presidential Elections Act Capt 7 in Parliament nor have I done it in any capacity as the chairman of ODM-K. I learnt from the press that ODM-KJ Members of Parliament had formed a coalition with PNU and subsequently two of our elected MPs were appointed to the Cabinet,” he said. Noting that he learnt of the appointment of Kalonzo and Information and Communications Minister Samuel Poghisio in the press, Maanzo argued that their appointment was in breach of Section 40 of the Constitution of Kenya and Section 17 of the National Assembly and Presidential Elections Act. “It is our opinion that unless otherwise proven that the 16 elected MPs under ODM-K ticket have not breached Section 40 of the country’s Constitution and Section 17 of Cap 7 and are likely to continue to breaching the law should “vacate their seats forthwith” he noted.. Subsequently, Maanzo told Marende not to swear in the two nominated MPs into the Tenth Parliament saying that their nomination should be revoked and repeated so that Section 33 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kenya is complied with by involving the party in nominations.

Maanzo should talk to Livondo, PNU 'hero' (how they loved and adored this illerate fellow! ;D), on what to do when the Nile is flowing towards the Mediterenean, inexhorably.
The PNU stalwarts were adept at playing stupid mind games, eti inviting Livindo to Harambee Hse Just when PM designate is about also to turn up there.
These people!! Use and dump con artists.
And yet my hommie Kombo believes the sloth kegs will make him a cabinet minster!. Kombo "bravely" but, stupidly shouted PNU slogans till he went hoarse, and was NOT even on the short listof nominated MPs, untill the Bukusu FORD K caucus mandated kegs to do it.
