Now that it is almost certain Kenyans have resolutely declared their rejection of Wakos's Draft, it is inevitable that we ask ourselves what should be the next step after this. By asking myself this very obvious question, I cannot escape to observe that the victory that we have had is nothing but indeed a 'stolen victory'!
When Kenyans decided to heed Raíla's call of "Kíbaki tosha", never in my mind did I ever imagine that Kíbaki will eventually turn out to be such a dishonest person! I mean look, first he stole the MoU which everyone had a stake in it considering all the expectation such a formula would have contributed to Kenyans hopes through the inherent 'checks and balances'. Then next followed the mother of all 'thefts' in the form of eagerly awaited New Constitution!
Yet now you can not fail to notice the bananas' call to the public that we should let the bygone be bygones and "get back to work"! I mean how can we, once again, be naively expected to 'celebrate our victory' simply by going "back to work", and forgetting what had led us to this stage in the first place? How can it escape anybody's mind that it is the New Constitution which Kenyans wanted and not the Kíbaki/Wako's version, and that it is the current one which they desperately wanted to change? Is it not enough that over four billion shillings of the taxpayer's money had been spent on it yet we find ourselves being thrown back to square one? Is it not enough that Kenyans had to endure over fifteen years of hard work, lives lost and emotional pain simply because they really wanted to have a New Constitution which never was? Is it not enough that all that 'investment' was then converted into 'waste' due to some selfish plans by Kíbaki and co., having been left in the end with nothing?!! Seriously people, how can that be?
How can we just fold our tents and simply 'get back to work' after getting 'conned' at such a magnitude? How can we naively and foolishly so, decide not to demand for the Constitution we genuinely wanted and instead choose to appease Kíbaki and his goons simply because they have now 'successfully' taken us for a ride like the "blind mice we were" and "pumbavu" we seem to be? How can we?
Ladies and gentlemen, there is a tough fight lying just ahead, and I say get ready for the mother of all Constituional battles, for there is no telling what the outcome next will be!
