Just as the Tsunami waves are here with us, it is about time that every person worth his salt should acknowledge and recognise its presence or risk being swept away into the pits of hell!. Kalonzo correctly acknowledged that joining Kíbaki’s government is not an option! And I can only emphasise that statement’s correctness and insist that it must be so!
For instance, how can we reconcile the fact that despite Kíbaki having already proven his incompetence as a national leader and clearly demonstrating a shortfall in his integrity to the people, yet our perceived popular leaders deliberately and negligently so, choose to retain him in power for the remainder of the term if other popularly ‘legitimate’ options are available and achievable? How can we even imagine that Kíbaki is at all capable of delivering the desired constitutional changes since his preferences have clearly been declared? How can anyone even imagine that he is indeed capable of isolating himself from his ‘kitchen cabinet’ without blinking an eye and thereafter ‘throw’ his fate and ‘dependance’ for his ‘wellbeing’ in the hands of the Orangemen just like that? Since when have we seen any indications that he is now a ‘changed man’, someone capable of suddenly becoming the true and popular leader of the people, simply by having been defeated by a popular movement a couple of days ago? How can he be trusted with the popular mandate yet he is the very one who had the audacity of attempting to ‘swindle’ the people without having the slightest regard to the inevitable losses and harmful consequences upon the nation? How can that be?
Is this not our ‘behavioural naivety’ which seems to be the main root cause to our miseries? Are we being sober enough if we are to be ‘dazed’ in amazement and just silently remain as passive observers who will not bother to ponder a notch deeper towards our understanding of the events unfolding before us?
And you can see clearly then my fellow countrymen and women, that some obvious and logical answers point towards saying ‘NO’ to Kíbaki! The realisation categorically suggests to us that this nation has no other objective and positive alternatives, except to demand an immediate dissolution of the Parliament and call for fresh elections so that the people can express their preferences as they desire!
As to the suggestion of the “Transitional Government” to use Raíla’s term, again I say it is inherently and similarly flawed, that to opt for it is to deceive ourselves that Kíbaki is at all capable of leading us out of this misery as observed earlier!
It thus follows that the ODM has no other logical and honest alternative but to press on and further work towards strengthening the popular demand as can be concluded. It follows that to ‘negotiate’ with Kibakí in any other manner and for any other purpose, is to continue to betray the popular trust as given, and the public must not accept to be treated and handled in such a manner ever again!
I just hope that our ‘leaders' will be learning as fast as the people are and watch their steps carefully as they trade along!
