Introductions are nt necessary.
"Si hata Mzee Kibaki Tosha !"
That is all it took, and the Golf playing DP leader became the third President of the Republic of Kenya. It is history now that 10 years of drinking at the chairman's corner at the Muthaiga Golf club was not enough to propel him to power.
Karume's money was not enough either. Lucy had inflicted some very serious damage on the General's charisma. He was even shy to appear at the uhuru Park Rally that declared him the sole opposition Presidential candidate.
Enter the Enigma and Rainbow, and the general was home dry. We also know that on taking his seat, he was sorounded by a one time proponent of justice, but latter day turncoat Kiraitu together with the then little known businessman and burly, Murungaru.
These became the power wielders, especially because the money man Karume had retreated to support a "homeguard" candidatute in Uhuru. To illustrate their victory, there was a symbolic crossing of the Chania River by the presidential Motorcade. "Federa ni yakira Chania"(The flag crossed the Chania River).
As soon as The Gvt was in place, the MOU was thrown out of the window. The General remained quuiet as his minions attacked and insulted the Enigma and his LDP machine.
A plan was soon developed to tame the Enigma since he was seen as the only threat the MKM's hold on power. Frusration of budget allocations to the Ministry of Roads and Public Works was just a tip of the iceberg. Later came Bomas and the Chairmanship of the Paliamentary Select Commitee on the the Review. Anyone that was seen to be sympathetic to the course taken by the Enigma was crushed pronto. This duel resulted in the unresolved murder of the Enigma's chief adviser on Devolution of power, Mbai.
The enigma, as quiet and thoughtful as ever, let his detractors think they had won. Soon enough, he was to eat most of them one by one, leaving the General weak and limping. The General with his quietness fell asleep and his house almost tumbled. He had to employ the help of some shadowy characters who only chose to act behind the scenes.
An othaya NAK activist(Whose wife is she?)seemingly stepped into action with some energised acts that would supercede the Journalist slapping lady of the "who is your mother" fame. It was rumoured that she worked in carhots with Ali's 'boss', Kamau together with a powerful snake by the name Michuki.
Then suddenly some "good Armenian businessmen" were to appear from nowhere. At first, they were seen as the hand sent to tame the Standard and KTN, who were thought to paint the General's family badly. The Standard was also seen to support the Enigma's course.
It later emerged that the said Businessmen were on for a biger duty. A 'future Armenian President' cannot be contracted to do shoddy jobs like raiding the Standard !
Having learned from the past, that the Enigma always managed to eat all his enemies, the Ganeral's shadowy people seem to have deviced a plan to 'do away' with some Influencial people in ODM, the new ship that the enigma has been riding.
The Enigma, in his characteristic charisma and courage, brought to the attention of everybody the existance of these macenaries- now called investors. This, was in fact after a well known 'religious Army' contracted to do the job was exposed. This did not go down well with the planners behind the secenes.
After thinking, the shadowy planners decide to set up a well guarded stagemanaged press conference at the Airport, with claims that the so called Macenaries are actually good men who, not only invested in the country, but also loaned Money to the Enigma to rescue him from girlfriend problems- One wonders what kind of girlfriend problems could cost upto $2 million to fix !
Another twist comes when a trusted Muthokoi eater and ODM compatriot Kalonzo, comes out to say he has met the said 'businessmen' but cannot recall what transpired between them. Strange amnesia ! Enigma stays put that he has never met such people.
Could it have been that the "bussinessmen" were actually contracted to finish the Enigma with the help of Mzee Moi's boy Kalonzo ?
Could it be, that After the Enigma, through his intelligence network exposed these macenaries that a decision was made to openly pit the Macenaries against him with the debt claims ?
Could it be, that with the exposure and the debt claims, the macenaries will now look into eliminating the Enigma, or force him into hiding before the elections ? And that if he were to be eliminated, the Gvt would say it was a private problem between the Enigma and some Armenian Mafia ? Nothing to do with the State ?
Could the new twist be the end of the Glorious Enigma that ate all his opponents including Baba Moi ?
Could the "Tosha" declaration have ruefully determined the demise of the Enigma ?

You raise a crucial issue here. What if the "demise of the Enigma" were t really happen, be it in a faulty aircraft or a well aimed armenian bullet (God forbid) what next? Is it the end of the active political climate int eh country? from this reading, it seems everything that has taken place in terms of political change has been due to the "almighty, omniscient, glorious enigma" What happens to Nyanza? Decades of darkness as they forge a new leader......how sad.

People,
You all heard of the new Masaku based party called ROAP a.k.a Kalonzos fallback party. The reason for creating the party is, yes, you guessed right, because Agwambo has refused to utter the two golden words “Kalonzo Tosha”. So the kamba have gone out of their way to threatening and manipulating LDP. Kalonzo Musyoka (KM) has also been busy either belittling his ODM colleagues (the very ones who he wants support from) or throwing fits and tantrums. His actions have all of a sudden raised the stars of one Najib Balala, who was not in the LDP leadership radar. Other people have started gaining at his expense.
Let me narrate what I once witnessed in Kisumu. The location, Moi stadium. Narc luminaries held a rally to campaign for Hon Nyagudi for a seat left vacant by the late Job Omino. As usual, the stadium was full of people. Agwambo was acting master of ceremony. He called speaker upon speaker to talk. I remember vividly how Chris Murungaru was booed, prompting Agwambo to intervene and calm down people.
A few days before the rally Agwambo had told people in Bondo that Raila-Kalonzo combination was the team to watch in 2007. So when KM stood up to speak, cheers were deafening. His speech was mostly geared toward attacking NAK. His speech was punctuated by “Kalonzo tosha” from the crowd. Everybody was to take the floor for only twenty minutes, when Kalonzos speech passed that mark, Agwambo went forward to remind him that his time was up. However, the crowd urged him on. “Tinga, weya otuch wach” and “Kalonzo toboa”, the crowd shouted. Agwambo backed down and KM finished his speech twenty minutes later. On that day, KM tasted the power of “tosha”. Its this power he has been constantly looking for albeit the wrong way.
Another incident was way back immediately after Moi declared Uhuru Kenyatta his project. Agwambo had not joined LDP then. However, Hon Oloo Aringo had gone public and expressed displeasure with Mois choice. He was quoted as saying something like this, “I Aringo has asked Raila to leave Kanu and he will do so, because I’m older then him, besides his mother comes from Alego…he therefore has no choice but listen to me”.
The following week, Raila drove to Kisumu. On reaching the outskirts of the town, near Moi stadium, he got out of vehicle and started walking along ring road all the way to Tom Mboya Labour college a.k.a COTU. The crowd was building as he went along. On reaching Cotu there was a large crowd waiting. I thought I would hear a long speech and what direction he would take, now that Uhuru was the project. I was to be disappointed. For he walked into the hall which was filled mpaka nje, and simply said; ….lets pray. A priest appeared from nowhere and talked about God for twenty minutes or so.Then Agwambo speaking in dholuo said; before I say anything, is there anyone here who has something to say. A man who was probably 50 something years old jumped up and said he had advice for Agwambo. Go on then, said Agwambo. The man said “Woud Adonija, pi oduore gimalo. Wan to wabiro timo mana kaka iwacho, newaseyieri in e telo”. Kata ka iwacho ni mondo wamuom korot to wumuomo”.( Son of Adonija, we will do exactly what you say, that’s why we elected you. Even if it means walking through this wall). That was more or less the end of the meeting. The rest was dance and song followed by another long walk to the city centre.
For all Tinga “haters” he is here to stay after all Kenyan politics revolves around him.
I rest my case, as Miguna Miguna would probably conclude in many of his court cases.

That is why I coined a new name for him, one that many revere, dislike, love and one that never dissappoints his teammates.
He forever, though, allows detractors to get dissappointed.

I do agree with you that no other politician in recent history has done much to shape and reshape the kenyan political landscape like the "enigma" But like the rest, he fails on one test. The successor test. Who is he grooming to take over? I wonder, if the enigma were to go down in a pooly maintained government craft, what happens to the entire lake region? There is nobody there to succeed him at the moment, well not at national level at least. Its going to be a loong trek, forging a new leader from ashes. But we do have many eligible candidates here at jukwaa. Can the real candidates please stand up?

@museveni, The name Enigma is not your making. You did not coin it. It has always been there. Oburu Odinga once said that it was their late mother who named the great man "AGWAMBO" in english "THE ENIGMA".
@pharlap; I agree with you on that point a successor is needed. I believe ORENGO should be the man to shoulder the task. Let the touch be passed to him. Alternatively let the people of Nyanza get even a more youthfull leader like, Ochillo Ayacko

@ Mzee, You bring in a new dimension to the lakeside politics by mentioning the great son of the soil, Orengo. I remember when i went to get my National ID, Orengo was probably featured on TV more than Raila. It was those days when he was involved in organizing protest rallies among other good activites for national enrichment. I even remember he got beaten up by riot police, i recall one time he and some fellow politicians had to hike a ride from some old chevrolet pickup to evade the marauding cops. I remember from the days when he was a student leader at Nairobi University, and how he colluded with the then Mo1 regime (He and a couple of friends used to go to statehouse for ugali by the night, lakini during daytime they'd be at kamkunji) and how later on he went through a tranformation, only to diss the same opposition he was meant to form an alliance with. The day when he decided to go it alone...is the day we all realised that he is indeed a man of his own.
He has potrayed the ability to make his own decisions and follow up without bending to anyone's wishes, he could be Nyanza's only hope in a long time. Infact, conservatively speaking, if you look at all lakeside politicians, i think Orengo enjoys widespread national recognition, just under Raila. And that is a perfect candidate. If Raila would encourage the likes of Orengo, to actually rise up and give them the due recognition and respect they deserve, then his late father's dream would come true- we could be talking of a Luo president one day. At the moment, we have not seen enough coperation except for the clique close to agwambo, similar to the Mt kenya group. Where is the difference?

I am interested in reactions to the two stories I wrote. It may enable me to write a more elaborate one cronicling politics in Kenya since 1997.
Mzee,
'Agwambo means misterious, and not Enigmatic.
If Orengo were to take the mantle, he could have done so by now. I think his persona cannot fit into the Enigma's shoes. Moreover, his time seems to have passed during the Kamukunji days. He did admit it during the referendum.
There has to arise a politician that is both intelligent, popular and at the same time able to communicate to the masses at their level- Appealing to the intellect of the well schooled and the simple wisdom of the uneducated.
I am yet to see another politician of the stature of the senior Odinga. It is only the Enigma that is threatening to eclipse his father's stature.

@museveni, I think that people have reacted positively to your stories. You paint Agwambo as an able leader, which he is. You give him the credit he deserves.
Even though you dismiss ORENGO, I do believe he is highly needed; his absence is a loss to Kenyan politics. Remember that the Enigma has been fighting a bloody battle with the establishment since Narc came to power (not to mention his earlier battles). He needs a lieutenant with ability to command and direct troops to designated places when necessary. One who commands nationwide control of troops is ORENGO. He may have slipped, but a slip is no fall. Agwambo alone cannot forever sustain such treacherous battle.
The only problem with ORENGO is that, just as Kalonzo, he too is prone a cheap manipulation. Remember how Baba Moi cheated him into fighting and throwing Anyang Nyongo out of SDP? Remember how that same Baba gave him cash to divide the luo votes by vie for president?. In other words, he did not see anything wrong in fighting his own brothers and sisters in the so-called luo Nyanza. That is the only problem I have with him. Otherwise, the man is a great parliamentary debater and orator. He is need now more than ever. It does not matter if he is not elected through LDP; the truth is that, he is better inside parliament than outside. Otherwise Nyanza might end up with "Ralph Tuju aka Kibakis son". Jaramogi did not like ORENGO for nothing.

Tuju Biro!! Tuju Biro!! This guy is at least trying to bring democracy to the lakeside region, otherwise bedazzled by the autocracy and dictatorship of the OO family. If the luos want to progress, they wil have to listen to people like Raphael Tuju. He may not be popular, but at least he can collaborate, and at the end of the day, it is all about working together and wining in teams.
All the best with the free public holiday.... suprise gift eh!!!

@pharlap, Perhaps I dont know what "to bring democracy menas" but I wonder how Tuju is going about it? He is using the same old tactics of yesteryear. That is "if you bash the Odingas then you are rewarded". By the way, Tuju is not a stupid man. He is not in parliament for politics. He is first and foremost a bussiness man and doing all he can to make it in that field. MKM connections are just but a blessing to him. He would rather be voted out of parliament than loose his bussiness deals. This fellow was a millionaire before he got into parliament. Its therefore a lie to say that the man is a democrat or wants to bring the same to Nyanza. Ralph is 40+ years and you never heard one quotation from him about "democracy" before he became MP. At best he is a "paper democrat".

@mzee This is where you guys err. Dont talk or discuss nyanza politics and by extension national politics when you least understand what really makes it tick. Mentioning of Tuju's name in the kenyan politics is a NO NO NO NO NO NO. Is it the fact that he is close to kibaki that makes you guys think he is a somebody? In the eyes of a luo politics Tuju is just a traitor and thats all. Believe me, beyond the 2006 thats all you will hear about tuju and I can bet my only lucky innerwear(pants) on it. I still dont understand why you think Tuju is worth anything(politics-wise) and dont get me wrong on this (and i dont mean to disrespect the mheshimiwa- thats the way it is). For starters kibaki will disown tuju as soon as it is convenient. WHY??? (1. He has failed on his mission = Just as someone said above that mo1 disowned ORENGO when it was convenient). Sample men who were in the shoes Tuju is wearing today. 1. ?? 2. Former Kenya Pipeline guy 3. Oloo Aringo == Would praise mo1 just like my uncle would to his favourite bull on the yoke 4.Tom Mbuya 5.Robert Ouko 6.Odongo omamo The list would go on and on. If any thing you guys are saying about Tuju is anything to by, then Orengo would be an MP today, Mboya would be with us today or atleast yesterday. The issue is, to the likes of Tuju my advice is that history has proven that when embrasing these guys, do it in a street-wise-manner coz they are never NEVER sincere in their COVENANT with asociates.

I don't know about traitor. About bashing the OO family, why is it that just because he does not agree with them on certain issues, it becomes a bashing? Kwani Tuju does not have a mind of his own? Unity is one thing that lacks in the company of highy educated and highly ambitious folk. Everybody wants to go it alone. Especially guys from Nyanza. I was at Maseno university one time and i happened to sit in a forum, if you may call it that way, and these folk were talking about religion and asking why the pastor in the hall was praying for people and who gives him the power to save and declare saved etc... This was teh christian union for gawd's sakes. Now this was all done out of ignorance.. because they obviously did not understand what was going on or were trying hard to impress us. Me and my colleagues from Nairobi and volunteers from the Netherlands. It is not for nothing that people from the lakeside city are thought of as hightly educated, that is the chosen few, proud, ambitious and have big humongous egos an love spending. Any attempt by Tuju that contradicts the OO's will be viewed as an attack that needs to be repulsed by all means. Make the man an enemy of the state. Kisumu would benefit more with Tuju in parliament than Raila. All they got was an indian mayor who was imposed on them and promotion to a city. And someone said that Lake victoria hence became an ocean and the omenas became mbutas and the mbutas became sharks. Tell me who the paper politician is. May the real slim paper politician stand up please.
He touched down in a police chopper, the speakers blasted loudly the famous tune,"we are in government" The people fell on their tummies postrate in worship and the women ululated in adoration, kids danced with joy and the young folks thought it was a light and not an approaching train at the end of the tunnel. The people almost died of excitement when we were promoted to a city-!5 minues of dance...filed the air....
But i watched as all this happened, grazing my cattle...whistling a tune. I watched as the grass joined in dance with the ecstatic masses....speech after speech was met with even louder cheereing until it was over... the cattle were well fed. Their stomachs were nice and round and were not in need. They had forgoten they were hungry before. They forgot about the thirst.
The following morning i went back to the same spot to herd my cattle, it was as empty as a tortoise shell. No crowds, no music, no whistles,...life was back to normal. Nothing had changed....except for the fact that we now are a city. I can't wait to go back home to my favorite dish, Kuon and omena......otherwise, nothing has changed at all...

Comparing Tuju to Raila is a mistake. Tuju may be great in future but he is not of Odinga's stature in the current Kenyan politics. Give Tuju time to make himself a greater politician.
I still do not see any poitician in Kenya that is currently as powerful as Raila, not just from Nyanza, but the whole country.

@pharlap
I can see where you are coming from, but on what basis would we have the privilege to bring in tuju's name into this(this discussion) forum??? Far from it. Infact if were we to mention any individual with status of a national image, then its not
tuju, not even nyongo, not anybody else,
maybe orengo
I think orengo would be the person to watch and only if he has the guts to polish on a few glitches here and there.
But remember you could be right coz kenyan politics can never be unpredictable.
Please note as wanye said that if we had the right constitutional framework where each and every leader is accountable to the wanainchi(to an extent that law is word and not the other way round) then ......and only then would we have a predictable political future. I strongly believe that we will get there in the near future.
