Delamere grandson in yet another shooting incident

Lord Delamere’s grandson Tom Cholmondeley and a friend identified as Carl Jean Pierre Tundo are being held at the central police station in Nakuru after a shooting incident at his Soysambu farm last night.

Cholmondeley shot and killed a man he claims was a poacher on his land.

He says five poachers armed with bows, arrows and machetes refused his order to surrender and instead set their dogs on him.

He says he shot the two dogs and the man who died, as he was being taken to hospital.

Police have recovered the rifle and five bullets used in the shooting and say investigations are in top gear.

In May last year, Cholmondeley was acquitted of murder charges after the Attorney General entered a nolle prosequi, in a case where the accused shot and killed a Kenya Wildlife Official Samson ole Sasina five times, reportedly in self defence.

Its sad, there are two sides to it. That alleged poacher, may have wandered into the farm, not knowing it belonged to the delameres, for crying out loud, the farm is 100,000 acres? Secondly, the alleged murdered could have done that in self defence, if a man unleashes dogs on you and you have a handy gun, why not?

I know Soysambu via a friend who worked there for years. The "farm" is extensive, but fenced and heavily guarded, like a fortress (okay, a grain of exaggeration). One just cannot accidentally get on it.

What I wonder about is whether the boundaries of legitimate force (I have little doubt about the core of the story) have not been overstepped this time. Tom Cholmodeley will have to answer to a charge why he did not just shoot the dogs, but also one of the alleged aggressors.
