ManK,I don't get your point? It was just about the choice of words. From where I read, Adongo would be the worst apology of a feminine character ... he's so mail, he does not just happen to be male. Its all I was saying. ... and Phil, why did you think I would be derailing the thread? I leave that to a few others, don't you know?

The reactions on Adongo's selection as a moderator are exactly what ails this country. An appointment is made, we get all very excited about how good a character is and shut up all those who disagree.
In the fullness of time, we all get disappointed when the true colours of the characters come true. Sometimes very good, and many other occassions a complete disappointment.
Which is why I will not cheer or deride this selection. I have been in Jukwaa long enough and in the fullness of time (again!), Adongo will turn out to be a blessing to this forum, or may just about kill it with irrational decision. Give it time guys!

Having been online these several years I feel I can comment on moderatorship with some authority.
The most important characteristic of a good moderator is errr…moderation. This is reasonableness and balance. Political neutrality is not important here. If there is a more reasonable person on Jukwaa than Adongo, then I am yet to make that acquaintance. A second requirement is consistent online presence where Adongo excels. So I fully support this announcement.
Secondly, Adongo must not hide behind ‘I-prefer-to-write-blah-blah’ speech. Nobody is asking him to stop writing. He just needs to perform a few additional little tasks here and there.
I also support Kathure Kebaara as potential female moderator. And I don’t particularly like her attitude. I think she has a rather personal problem with me. But she is sane enough. She also has a great eye for gender issues and will be a good balance to the overdose of testosterone.

You know Adongo longer than most Jukwaaists do. So what is your beef with Adongo as a moderator? Please help us know what we don't know about Adongo before we commit a fatal mistake. As a vintage member of this board, you owe it to all members! So, please go on and put us in the know.

Please suggest the name of a female moderator and I will do the needful. Onyango Oloo Administrator, Jukwaa First, congratulation to Adongo in his new role. He deserves it as his performance here on the platform speaks for itself. Second, Kathure is my favourite female moderator to work alongside Adongo. Third, if political leanings must be balanced, then Kamale beats them all. But he will need to stop being trivial on the board when his emotions get the better of him like it happened recently. Einstien,Thanks for that vote of confidence. Kamale already declined nomination for co-moderator; but could you imagine he and I moderating on the same forum? I mean there are enough schisms between he and I to...and I can't imagine how that would end.

It is you who has insulted me here on this forum on several occasions so do not twist things. Did I ever tell you that you were out of sorts because you need to get laid or your hormones are out of wack? You told me those things among others. I was surprised to see you nominating me. But in any case thanks for that vote of confidence.

agree adongo deserves to be a moderator, he is very balanced and has an amazing tolerance for almost everyone and everything. my congratulations is not so much to adongo but (also) to OO who has jealously guarded this function (admin/moderator) and is now able to delegate this function to someone else. am not sure whether this is something that was easy to do or he agonised over it (well maybe not) OO has managed this forum single handed for over 5 years through even some very turbulent periods. the comments and posts here are fairly balanced and only the occasional few (uncouth) newbies have had to be really moderated and in fact kicked out. by and large the current membership is mature and self moderating, OO only required an extra set of hands for those periods where he is engaged elsewhere and its not really about policing this forum, but about keeping an eye out for lapses in the housekeeping admin issues that he highlights above in his response to phil with that in mind there is no need to try to portray this function as yet another political or gender or social battlefront pitting one side of the divide against another and hence we have to call in gender, political affiliation etc. in summary OO simply needs someone to fill the gaps in keeping the forum current when he's away and not necessarily police the site. i think adongo fits that bill well and there really is no need to get another set of hands for that - too many cooks (will) spoil the broth in any case, the two other types of moderation have served this board well (1) intellectual moderation - where contributors have totally shredded myths, falsehoods, propaganda and dis/mis information (2) a quiet word behind the scenes to the admin where someone feels another contributor may have gone overboard, OO has been gracious enough to process the request and act if he thinks its justified or otherwise advised the complainant that the said piece is not offensive or breaks jukwaa standing rules am ok with OO as admin and adongo stepping in where necessary unless we foresee a situation where both are away for a long period there is no need for another set of hands and whats it with us nowadays, even drinking a glass of water we have to evaluate whether its politically correct, gender sensitive, ethnically balanced and what not, i.e before we drink that glass, we must get someone from PNU (or ODM or ODM rebel) to also drink from another glass for balanced representation. lets get real folks TNK,I think that given the unjust world in which we live it behooves us to be vigilante about "political correctness". I hate that expression because it is often used by right wing forces to dismiss claims by oppressed people.

I have not said anywhere that I have any beef with Adongo and if anything, our differences only arise out of political preferences that do not align. It is never personal!! To begin with, Adongo has never been a moderator of Jukwaa so praising him or criticising him even before he moderates a single thread is misplaced. The owner of this forum felt strongly enough that Adongo would make a good moderate. Many have cheered it...I have not. Several have tried to be critical....I have not! Reason? I have no basis of judging a person on something they never did before!

Following your requests, I have confirmed Kathure as one of the 2 new moderators.
In the interests of FULL DISCLOSURE, let me reveal this:
Kathure Kebaara is Onyango Oloo's Ex. We are the parents of a 20 year old Kenyan-Canadian young man called Sankara.

Here in one breadth you tell us that "I have no basis of judging a person on something they never did before....." but on the other breadth and countless times in this forum you have taken the opportunity to remind all and sundry that Raila cannot be a good president because he is a dictator blah blah blah. So how do you know all these yet Raila has never been president before?

Keep it that wat and if you want to question my consistency, start a new thread.....I could just be tempted to unleash Adongo's moderation powers by having you tamed!

Folks,
Congratulations to pioneers Adongo Ogony and Kathure Kebaara for becoming JUKWAA moderators. I'm forever grateful to Onyango Oloo of course - for starting this forum in the first place.
Another special thanks to Oloo's last piece of administrative work - the highly effective moratorium on new membership - which essentially ensured quality control and maintenance of sanity in this forum. That is exactly what I expect Adongo and Kathure to maintain - JUKWAA's high quality of debates minus the mashada-ish display of childishness.
By the way - did I just 'smell' maturity? Did I read Phil nominate Kamale for moderator? Did I also read Kamale politely decline the offer? That's JUKWAA being JUKWAA!
