Busy weekend for ODM Reloaded, including a return to the North Rift. orange-democratic.blogspot.com/2012/11/busy-weekend-programme-for-odm-reloaded.htmlTomorrow, curtains fall on the 2012 Tusker Premier League AND either Gor Mahia, Tusker or AFC Leopards will be crowned the 2012 Tusker Premier League Champions. Scenario ONE: Gor Mahia beat Thika United at City Stadium and are declared 2012 Tusker Premier League Champs! Scenario TWO: Gor Mahia draw or lose to Thika United. Simple win for Tusker and AFC Leopards. The Brewers defend the tittle. Scenario THREE: Gor Mahia draw or lose, Tusker draw or lose. AFC Leopards Win. Ingwe clinch their 14th league tittle For K'Ogallo, it has been a long time coming and, believe it or not, the anxiety has been made worse by the victory of President Obama in the US elections. It is a DO or DIE for Gor.

the rumour doing rounds in Nairobi right now is that Muthama will be bringing Kalonzo to City Stadium kesho.
Am not a Kogallo supporter myself but I have to applaud their long unbeaten run. Serenkuma is looking for Kenyan citizenship and hopefully Kajwang will make an executive order.
Wiper has finally seen the light, and Muthama gemstones last week learnt with pleasure that there is GOLD in some parts of Southern Nyanza. Karibuni.

I am posting this from a cyber cafe on the fourth floor of the Kenya Cinema building just behind KENCOM in downtown Nairobi.
A few minutes ago, I finally got through to the Wells Fargo truck parked downstairs which is selling tickets to the K'Ogalo game taking place today (Saturday November 2012) to buy a ticket for one of the most rabid Gor Mahia fans on this planet-my wife. I will not be attending the game so I will content myself to be enjoying it vicariously through her. We have agreed to meet later and drink ourselves silly to celebrate if it turns out that Gor Mahia will clinch the league title by this evening.
It is a carnival atmosphere out there-from the Tom Mboya statue which has become something of a shrine, through the Ronald Ngala/Tom Mboya Street junction to the area around Kenya Cinema- with Gor fans serenading each other with vuvuzelas, chants, slogans, team songs as well traditional Luo ditties. There was even a mock religious ceremony presided over by a stand in "bishop" burning a red candle to the cheers of the half-delirious small crowd slowly building its momentum- AND IT IS NOT YET EVEN ONE PM YET!

Tusker FC are the champions of Tusker Premier League 2012 after beating City Stars 3-0. Gor Mahia have drawn with Thika United 1-1. Gor needed to win this game to take the league. It would not have mattered if Tusker of AFC won their games.
Well, better luck next year K'ogalo!

I was watching the game on pay television on South Africa's Super Sport channle from the Samba Pub & Restaurant just behind the KENCOM building.
The match is over. Gor Mahia has drawn 1-1 with Thika United which means that Tusker FC with their 2--0 win have retained their title. I watched Gor players aghast, dumbfounded and prostate on the grounds of City Stadium.
My wife who expected to trek on foot to town with the victorious Gor K'Ogalo fans will arrive in town a very dejected and listless fan.
I will immediately take her to the KENCOM bus stop where we will take the # 32 bus to Kibera get off the Karanja stage and proceed to the Garage Bar where we will spend a few hours listening and dancing to die hard Gor Mahia fan, the Born in Ugenya Ohangla sensation Onyango Alemo belt out a few Ohangla tunes.

Phil, Seems like you are sleeping on your job. You forgot to report on the TNA sponsored hooliganism and chaos meted out by TNA agents, and with the intention of making Gor fans look bad on Saturday after their game with Thika. I heard that there was even a death or two from this, not to mention some millions of ksh from losses reported by those (business people) who suffered the wrath of the violence. Damn the Diabolic TNA. Damn them! Meanwhile, Supersport has made the decision (yet again) to stop airing Gor games. Story below. www.standardmedia.co.ke/?articleID=2000070605&pageNo=1

Bkichwa now if Uhuru follows through with his threat & yanks the Tuzo sponsorship due to the violence after the match then Gor are sunk. For some reason, Uhuru's ill-gotten wealth isn't all that bad so long as it goes to Gor. Go figure....

I want to stress that I am not a Kogallo fan. I support Sofapaka. Tuzo's sponsorship of Gor Mahia is the biggest sponsorship of any football team in this region. But it is lopsided in favour of Tuzo and Kogallo are not getting their true brand value. The contract also binds Gor and limits them from exploiting their true market potential. If Brookside terminate their sponsorship of Gor Mahia, you will be surprised to see multinationals lining up to replace them. Supersport themselves have previously expressed an interest to have their logo on Kogallo's world famous green jerseys. Gor is an instiution whose roots go deeper, much deeper than Tuzo and DSTV. Without a shadow of doubt, Supersport 9 East needs Kogallo more than the club needs DSTV. This is why they retracted the threat not to broadcast Kogallo live matches. Outside South Africa and Nigeria, Kenya remains a major market for paying DSTV subscribers and Kogallo supporters form a big percentage of those sub paying customers. This is Gor Mahia we are talking about here, not some third rate without historical significance. Politics has definitely come into play with every tom, dick and harry donnig Kogallo replica shirts - a fashion statement anywhere in this country. It is also mistakenly taken as a political statement and this led to one "Destroyer" staging an attack on Miguna in Mombasa. With the kind of numbers Kogallo are commanding at each game and every town they visit, not to mention television viewership, it makes the club naturally attractive to marketers as well as politicians. AFC Leopards aka Ingwe are a distant second. The events of Saturday call for police investigations. Not conspiracy theories from the likes of bkichwa and b6k.

Is it not just 3 weeks ago when Gor could not pay any salaries when they had defaulted on the contract by attempting to get into a deal with NMG over some ugly jackets? Gor cannot be heard to complain as they negotiated a deal when they were on their knees and if they think they can get a better deal (with their violent record that is a hard sell!!) they can use the exit clause in their contract to go seek more money you think is available! The truth of the story is that Gor without Tuzo would not even have gotten where they are today. Be thankful for small mercies bwana Sofapaka supporter!

@kamale
Struggling to pay player salaries underlines a major problem with the Tuzo sponsorship. If the cheque to pay wages comes directly from the sponsor, then you can see how much Brookside have Gor in a corner. Can you imagine Man-U and Arsenal players remaining unpaid because AIG or Emirates have not sent their monthly wages?
On the other hand, you have to appreciate the massive brand recognition that Gor is giving Tuzo in return. It does not compare with what they are receiving. Go to any supermarket and you will find Tuzo is the milk that runs out first. So fast that the factory production is now resorting to importing milk powder from Europe because they cannot keep up with sales from Kogallo faithful.
Besides, Tuzo know as much as you do, Gor would not last a week longer without a bigger sponsor's deal when Brookside terminates this contract.
And they can only sign a contract that will give them more flexibility and more capacity to develop as a football club and more importantly as a commercial institution.

From the warthog's mouth... @ Einstein, Football politics will always be football politics. As is to be expected coalition wars between PNU and ODM have spilled into coming KPL elections and being a major institution in the KPL, Gor Mahia is bound to feature in such siasa. Uhuruto are sponsoring certain candidates and other candidates are assumed to be RAO and Mudavadi sympathizers. Granted, in Gor Mahia the Tuzo sponsorship is heavily lopsided in favour of the dairy firm but still remains the single biggest club football sponsorship in sub Sahara Africa. Players and the technical bench are now getting paid their wages promptly, they are fully kitted for training and matches, and perhaps more importantly they have full medical cover courtesy of the Tuzo sponsorship. You realise also the Gor Mahia head coach also Zeddy Otieno doubles as the Harambee Stars coach and hypocrites like Tom Ataro have not seen any contradiction or conflict of interest in that. So why pick on Rachier? I have previously sat down with the chairman and some of his officials and it is ironic that the people who are demanding audited accounts have no idea about how auditors are hired, or how the club raises funds or negotiate for transfer of players. Actually, these are the same officials who feel frustrated that Rachier has sealed all loopholes for individuals making money in the name of the club (read - printing personal tickets on match days and making their own replica jerseys of the club and pocketing the proceeds). Luckily for Gor, the club is going places without having to rely on handouts from politicians or corruption cartels. Rachier has presented a strategic plan that includes acquisition and construction of a club house and grounds fro Gor which would make the club independent and also open a an alternative revenue stream. Gor's plot for the club house, allocated by former president Moi, was grabbed by former officials who are now fighting Rachier. With the new constitution and with Rachier's background as senior counsel, there is every possibility that gor will regain its land and hopefully build a state of the art club house and training grounds that will also serve as home ground. I think from among the candidates for KPL leadership, and based on his record in the corporate world and as Gor chairman, Ambrose Rachier is best suited to lead KPL back to the days of glory. As for Tuzo sponsorship pullout threats & "conspiracy theories", tell that to Ocholla, their GM Sales & Marketing Manager: "The company’s General Manager Sales and Marketing, Elias Ocholla, said in a statement on Monday that they have taken with great exception to widespread reports of hooliganism witnessed after the match between Gor Mahia and Thika United at the City Stadium on Saturday." www.nation.co.ke/sports/football/Gor-sponsors-threaten-to-pull-out/-/1102/1618502/-/j81ue5z/-/index.html

The writing is on the wall for Kogallo sponsor TUZO. Sserunkuma leads Gor’s FOYA Awards Domination Posted by Capital FM on November 22, 2012
NAIROBI, Kenya, November 22- He wants to turn from a Crane to a Star. He will not honour his home nation’s national team call up for the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup due to his deep affection for his adopted nation and above all, his new home has crowned him the best of them all.
“My future is in Gor Mahia, I want more years there. I feel happy, a good coach and good fans so I do not feel like going everyone. Now, I do not have to talk about myself. Being the best player in Kenya means I’ve doing well and it is not a mistake,” Ugandan born striker Dan Sserunkuma said shortly after he was declared the Tusker Premier League (TPL) Footballer of the Year.
“I feel happy in Kenya and hopefully I will play for the national team. We will sit down and discuss with the coach and after that, I will let you know,” the dreadlocked marksman who plundered in 17 goals asserted.
“I feel happy to be named the best player in Kenya it means that I have been improving. Coming from City Stars to Gor Mahia, I found a coach who improved me a lot. I never knew a lot things and when I went there, he gave me a lot and improved me on using my brains a lot,” the forward who also
“As a player, you have to do your best for the team especially when playing for Gor Mahia. I talked to the Cranes technical committee and asked them I need to rest because I was also nursing injury.
“I will relax and not play in CECAFA so that I can prepare for next season. It was very tough when we lost the title and we talked among ourselves to lift ourselves up for the Cup. We forgot what happened and won the Cup,” the 2012 finest who was the runner-up in the Golden Boot and Fair Play awards explained.
KCB’s rising star, Paul Mungai Kiongera, a second year Bachelor of Psychology at Kenyatta University was named the runner-up in the biggest prize of the evening besides being the second runner-up in the Midfielder of the Year.
“I’m very happy because there are many good players in Kenya and to get an award is an honour. My teammates were fantastic throughout the season. If you just listen to the coaches and follow the instructions, everything will be okay with you.
“I will always work hard and listen to the coaches. Studying psychology has helped me to interact with people and I get to understand them and this has been helpful. For now, I’m a KCB player and I’m contracted to them,” the player who kept his side in the TPL with ten goals observed.
He was the star when a development side beat Botswana 4-1 in a friendly in his first call-up to the national team and Kiongera who will feature in CECAFA is keen to establish himself in the squad.
“When you get the chance to play for the national team, you have to give your all because you are representing many people,” the midfielder expressed promising that his rise will not be dimmed next season. AFC Leopards striker, Mike Baraza, was third.
Gor coach, Zradvko Logarusic was announced as the Coach of the Year in recognition of the turnaround he fashioned for the club that managed only seven out of 27 points in their first nine games of the season ahead of Thika United’s John Kamau and Mathare United’s Stanley Okumbi.
“Kenya is a big country and they say ‘Mzungu’ is the Coach of the Year. I’m so happy. When I came here, I wanted to run away after two days but I took up the challenge and here we are. I’m disappointed that I did not win all the trophies but I feel proud for what we have achieved,” the Croat who led K’Ogalo to the KPL Top 8 and FKF Cup said.
“On Sunday, I will be on a plane to Europe and I do not know whether I will return. I stayed here because of the supporters because the money is not good. I told myself to stay for a few months and make them happy because such support is not easy to find,” the coach disclosed on his future.
“My salary is less than a million and if they are willing to pay me, I will tell them what is wrong with the national team. Croatia is a country of 4.2 million and we have been in the top ten in the last decade while Kenya is a nation of 40m but the country continues to lose. I hope those who are in charge will come up with a plan after all, they are getting Sh4m,” Logarusic underscored when he was quizzed about prospects of handling the national team.
Gor Mahia’s Anthony Akumu is the Midfielder of the Year with Francis Kahata (Thika United) and Kiongera completing the podium with K’Ogalo’s other Ugandan import, Ivan Anguyo being named the Defender of the Year ahead of Jockins Atudo (Tusker) and Eugene Asike (Sofapaka).
For the second year in a row, champions Tusker custodian, Boniface Oluoch, scooped the Goal Keeper of the Year decoration with Gor’s Fredrick Onyango and Robert Mandela of Western Stima in second and third.
Gor, who missed a first title in 17 years on the last day of a dramatic season, dominated the gala with seven awards to underline their class.

Yours is typical Kenyan thinking.....Gor seems to be getting ahead of itself in thinking that they can now go bigger than what Tuzo gave them.
Obviously they can get out of the deal by breaching the contract, but that does have its price - is Gor willing to pay that price?

Man U announced 6 months ago that next season they will be sponsored by Chevrolet.
