As JUKWAA's foremost war-hawk who went cheering Kenya's misguided invasion of Somalia, I find it baffling that you now proclaim you are afraid...of consequences like Xenophobic attacks against Somalis. Didn't you anticipate this when you cheered the illegal incursion? Somalia's head of State has already disowned Kenya's invasion of its territory. That significant development will have serious consequences. Kenya's incursion is therefore not welcome by both al Shabab and the Transitional government. Don't things start sounding more like the other great bungling of the similarly misguided war in Iraq. Kenyans need to realize that Xenophobia against the Somali community won't help achieve anything. We have a sizeable Kenyan Somali population (bigger than either communities of the Kisii or the Meru). I have no doubt Kenyans won't easily fall into the dangerous route towards mob rule or Xenophobic-driven tyranny. In the other thread where Oloo analyzes ramifications of this misguided war, you claim the latter is ignorant. You also rubbish the citation he provides from a Somali analyst. Obviously, you must have missed the important argument being advanced that control of territory in Somalia is currently shared between Shabab and Transitional Federal Government. The former had more regional control, but is only temporarliy ceding ground due to effects of famine and drought. That is probably a tactical shift by al Shabab. As they give room to Kenyans to advance through their territory; while civilian Somalis run into Kenya; al Shabab will very likely deploy the infamous guerrila tactics witnesses in Iraq for the last decade. They will likely focus on a guerrilla terror campaign both in Kenya and Somalia; aimed at sowing fear throughout Africa's horn. These are the direct consequences of our country's failure in leadership! We even had a vacant M. o. Foreign Affairs for a whole year (no Minister, no PS). Why has the so called commander-in-chief who ordered this misguided war NOT done the more prudent thing - freezing assets of Somali warlords and pirates in Kenya? All the major players in the turmoil have sizeable assets in Kenya. You can guess who they are in bed with. Bure kabisa! What a hollow argument this is? Very sad indeed. Kenyans are not going to sit around with tails in between their legs as these guys reign havoc. To me the strategy so far is good. Chase Al Shabaab into the thin air, secure your border, then smoke those in Nairobi out. You cannot start on Nairobi when their supply lines are still intact as they were. We are in total support of our men and women in uniform. Those who want to exile because of Al Shabaab, are free to do so. Thanks for your brilliant fairytale on the impendng victory in war! Let's now wait for your ink to dry. I bet by the time it dries, with tails flapping in the air, al Shabab "would have been chased into thin air; our 1000kms porous border secured air-tight; and al Shabab in Nairobi smoked out."

I think the concerns Kamale raises about xenophobic attacks against Somalis locally are very real. Last time when some youths waved Al Shabaab flags on our streets after the deportation of a Jamaican Muslim cleric there was a huge backlash from the ordinary people.
For the first time ever, wananchi came to help the police repulse Muslims who were rioting outside Jamia Mall. People smashed the mall, the mosque and a nearby Islamic bank.
But this xenophobic and sectarian attacks within Muslims is exactly what Al Shabaab would like to see so that the whole country is clouded in fear, religious wars and insecurity. We must not allow ourselves to fall into that trap as a nation.
Rounding up illegal Somali immigrants who have absolutely nothing to do with lobbing grenades on crowds of innocent people, taking them to court and labelling them Al Shabaab is least helpful- as of now since war on illegal immigration can wait.
We need covert intelligence led operations to snare this terror group not reactionary tactics that alienates local Somali groups when we need them most in fighting terrorism. If this war is to be won, then these Somalis and other Muslims MUST be on our side.
It's too late to pull our troops out of Somalia cowardly as of now. So to all who were against the war initially like me, this is the time to support our troops! No one likes the way this war was declared in such a cavalier manner manner. Our troops must accomplish their goals and this war must not take longer than necessary even for one second.
The attacks on our streets by murderous Islamists should fuel and boost the morale of our troops in Somalia. This war must also be fought on two fronts, seizing of properties here in Nairobi belonging to Al Shaaab warlords and sympathizers must begin immediately. What on earth is our Govt waiting for?

The all Kenya seem to be invaded by Somali militants. In dember, I stayed in Mtito-adei for a week and got to talking with the locals and got to hear that the bushes deep in the area are full of Somalis who seem to be doing secret things(my guess was military training)
Some women told me that, on the way to a funeral, driven by a tractor, they suddenly realized that they were surrounded by Somali young men who said nothing, but quietly stared at them. The tractor driver said hello to the Somalis and informed them where they were going. The Somalis disappeared as fast as they emerged (looks like the tinga driver is known to them)
One Boda Boda told me how he is becoming rich from driving one particular Somali in the middle of the night in the Bushes where he lives. He told me that, he just drops the guy in the middle of nowhere. This one could be a leader of a group.
I heard other similar stories of strange behaving Somalis seeing in Bushes. Its not a one man fantasy, it’s real
There is a big roadside eatery and lodging build by Somalis about 3 or 4 years ago, it’s always full of Somalis yet they don’t live in Mtito which is rather small where everybody knows everyone.
The people of Mtito Adei and the surroundings are very afraid of these Somalis and say that our government is sleeping while our Land is being taken over by Somalis. They even joke that the next MP of Kibwezi might be a Somali.
If this is really happening in Mtito adei, then the MP of Kibwezi (Who actually resides in USA – or is it Canada?- with his Family) and his loonies must know about it. And the locals aren’t only joking when they say our Country is being taken over in front of their eyes, indeed our Government is selling Kenya to Somali Bandits

I am relieved to know that we have a sizeable presence of 'wasomali' in Kenya amidst our incursion onto Somalia. We should indeed count that as a blessing for now.
I do not think the so called Al Shabaab are foolish enough to try and cause chaos in Kenya. Alshabaab, in good probability have huge and important interests in Kenya and particularly Nairobi. Causing chaos is certainly not to their interest or their people's interests and their investments. Think about it.
I am inclined to think that those who had kidnapped the westerners were just some opportunistic bandits from Somalia. The resultant war flagged off by GK had other objectives and sponsors for other undeclared but perhpas identifiable reasons.
On the whole, Somalia and majority of wasomali within have been doomed long ago. Blame it on the Miraa culture of which the Kenyan gov is more than happy to ensure its uninterrupted supply.
Will the war escalated by GK achieve anything? History has the answer to that question.

Let us remember to take "false flag operations" seriously into account. This is not a side issue. "It is not an aberrant criminal strategy adopted only by groups. It is established military doctrine and practice - taught in military colleges" (Cline, 2005). False flag operations have "been used for decades, if not centuries, by colonial powers" (Zwicker, 2006). A false flag operation is a contrived, staged event, usually shocking, planned by its actual perpetrators (governments, corporations, or other organizations) to appear to have been done by others. The term is derived from the military concept of flying false colours; that is, when a ship flies the flag of a country other than its own ( Ibid). There are numerous historical examples of proven and well-documented false flag operations conducted by governments. One of the most well-known is "Operation Northwoods", which even had the written approval of every member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the U.S. government (1962). It is also on record that the British employed false flag operations during the Mau Mau uprising in Kenya ( Ibid). References: Cline, L.E. (2005). Another attack in Mandera
Eight people have been killed in a grenade attack on a bus in Mandera town, North-eastern Kenya by suspected al shabaab militia.
The militia are said to have sprayed the bus ferrying KCSE exam papers with bullets before lobbing a grenade that instantaneously exploded killing all on board. Those killed include Lafey secondary school headmaster, the district education officer, and two Kenya police reserve among others. The attack happened 100 kilometres from Mandera town.
This is the third grenade attack in the past five days bringing the death toll in suspected al shabaab related attacks to 9.
"We have received a report of a banditry attack in Mandera District about 110 km from Mandera town involving a vehicle carrying government officials among others," police spokesman Eric Kiraithe said.
Kiraithe said the District Police Commander and his security team were proceeding to the scene of the attack.
Mandera is in Kenya's sparsely populated far northeast, close to the porous borders with Ethiopia and Somalia. Kenyan troops deployed into anarchic Somalia 12 days ago in an offensive against al-Shabaab militants blamed for a series of kidnappings on Kenyan soil and frequent cross-border incursions.
Al Shabaab had warned it would strike back.
Two separate grenade attacks in the capital Nairobi on October 24, killed one person and wounded more than 20. A Kenyan man pleaded guilty on October 26 to one of the attacks and being a member of al Shabaab, the Somali Islamist group.

NEWS BREAKING Explosion reported at Jack Jill Supermarket Racecourse road 8pm local time, people injured 3 in critical condition. Grenade reportedly lobbed into a crowd. When these grenade attacks start coming this way, then there will be obvious xenophobia against the somali community which is something that will not augur well for our country. I can imagine people seeing a somali and even if they are innocent, they will be suspected of preparing to lob a grenade and there will be nasty scenes coming up......I am afraid. seeing now that all the "al shabaab" suspects are guys with names that are not somali kind of totally dispels this xenophobic argument according to iteere, the local al-shabaab are kenyans from all (kenyan) tribes. so where do you get your xenophobia from

tnk, Remember Orwa Ojode of the security docket promised the mother of all security operations targeting Eastleigh in Nairobi. That is not much of a shortwave! that is the promise of a razzia, a prelude to a pogrom aimed at specifically ethnic Somalis. I actually shared Kamalet's fears, when I heard security men like Ojode apportion the blame and point a cruel finger at the headquaters of ethnic somalis in the world. Eastleigh Nairobi. It was a very irresponsible statement from a minister! Totally xenophobic!
