From this Daily Nation article appearing on Page 9 of today's edition (26/10/2011), it is clear that Uhuru Kenyatta (Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Finance and KANU Chairman) has come a long way in his political career. The question that we must now ask is whether or not he's the best man for the job come 2012. I will start this debate with a simple SWOT analysis of his candidacy and add more to it as I come up with more. Strengths: 1) According to the Wikileaks report former US ambassador to Kenya, Michael Ranneberger had this to say about him. "Kenyatta is charming, intelligent and charismatic". These, in my view are good character traits for a leader. 2) The man is also known for his conservative style of politics where like President Mawi Kibaki he keeps away form sideshows, rarely making an appearance on media and on the few occasions he does, its usually to handle government business. 3) He is also clean, with no corruption record under his tenure in any Ministry. Weaknesses: 1) The only one I can think of is that everyone always speaks of his Presidency being 'illegal' due to the fact that his father was President. I don't remember anyone saying this of George Bush whose father was also President Before him. Opportunities: 1) The man is clearly focused and strong. From his interview at Kenyatta University which you can see here: www.youtube.com/user/UhuruKenyattaTVor alternatively here: here: or here: it is clear he is focused. His performance at the Hague also showed us that the man is made of steel thus supporting my fact that he is strong. 2) The fact that he is younger than most other candidates who are in their 60's (some heading to their 70's) will also attract the younger generations to him. Threats: 1) The only threat I can think of is the ICC ordeal which after his performance we clearly understand that the wrong man was accused. How it will be resolved - no one knows but either way he's a force to reckon with.

Team Uhuru has decided to mark Uhuru Kenyatta's birthday by relesing details about 50 things his supporters didn't know about him. I'm following this on Twitter and from the looks of things they have been relesing a detail about his life every 6 minutes i.e. 10 things few people knew about him every hour which means they'll be through by 5PM.
This is my interpretation of these facts:
1) Did you know that Uhuru was conceived in Samburu?
This could mean that his family had humble beginings contrary to how people view him as priviledged and out of touch.
2) Did you know Uhuru is left handed?
I've heard most left handed people are very creative and gifted. I don't know whether this is true of him or not but if it is it's a good trait for a Presidential candidate.
3) Did you know Uhuru worked at KCB, Kipande House Branch?
This proves that the man, contrary to rumours has actually held down a job which is a sign of responsibility and capability.
4) Did you know History was Uhuru's favourite subject in High School?
Good leaders know their history and from this history knows Uhuru. In the interview I put up earlier it's interesting to note what he says about History. He says that you cannot know where you're going if you don't know where you're coming from.
5) Did you know Uhuru played as a winger for St Mary’s School rugby team?
Sporting activity builds character and responsibility which is also a good trait for an aspiring Presidential candidate. Since rugby is a team sport it also shows that he's a team player which is a good trait for someone who aspires to work with people.

Ati because Uhuru was conceived in Samburu he had humble beginnings!!! Okay Queen Elizabeth became quuen a top a tree house rather than a mansion....poor girl was very humble! You certainly would make money in the comedy industry.

You certainly would make money in the comedy industry. You misquote me, dear Mr. Kamelat. I categorically wrote 'his family' had humble beginnings because I knew someone would come out of the woodwork to shoot me down if I said 'he' had a humble beginning. The resononig here is this - if you're parents are of humble beginnings how would they go about pampering their children. Watch the videos I've posted above to see what Uhuru had to say about how his father treated him.

Happy golden jubilee youthful Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta! How time flies.
Many happy returns. How can we ever forget the bitter-sweet memories of you virtually abandoning the official opposition to support the incumbent in 2007 ( a world record), and then eventually presiding over the apparent death of a moribund KANU, a part founded by your Dad and others?
Thank you for the insults and table banging, and oh yes, Hague ni ya mama zetu. Wacha tuiongojee uamuzi wa mahakama
But for today, have one double on us, your kawaida favourite 12 year old Glenfiddich Single Malt Whisky. I wont say anything nor encourage any of us getting stoned on our favourite weed.
Happy birthday!

Here's more from TeamUhuru:
6) Did you know Uhuru was the first Politician to concede defeat at the Presidential Level in Kenya?
This is what political maturity and responsibility is made of.
7) Did you know Uhuru's favourite film is Shaka Zulu?
Only an african statesman -not in the making- but already made, would stick to african film in support of our heritage.
8) Did you know Uhuru's favourite musicians are Bob Marley, Tracy Chapman and UB40?
He's a man who has truly stuck to the roots. Nothing fancy here or in any way 'westernized'. Just good old music we can all relate to.
9) Did you know Uhuru has 3 kids?
A family man is always welcome as a leader.
10) Did you know that Uhuru was 42 when he ran for the Presidency in 2002?
That shows courage since at such a young age few have a chance of making it.
11) Did you know Uhuru is a Catholic?
A religious man is what a country needs to lead it. Non-religious people would just mislead the masses.
12) Did you know Uhuru's favorite food is Nyama Choma?
People alawys thought he would be a beef stroganoff kind of guy but as it turns out he's a normal man like everybody else.
13) Did you Uhuru's favourite Authors are Tom Clancy and Vince Flynn?
Honestly I didn't think Tom Clancy would feature. This is a man who has good reading taste which is something few have.
14) Did you know Uhuru's favourite TV SHOW’s are 24 and Spooks?
This is someone who is up to date with what is trending and is up to date with what the younger generations are doing.

His father was a guest of the state as he was in detention at the time serving time for trumped up charges. It was therefore not a matter of choice or a sign of humble beginnings. His daddy was locked up by the white man. Fast-forward to present day. Do you know that UK is facing serious (trumped up?) charges at the ICC that could see him serve time at The Hague? Will this be a case of conceived behind bars & retired behind bars? He may very well end up locked up by yet another white (wo)man....

There is also a possibility that someone will get hit by a car today as they try crossing a street or struck by lightning. Possibilities are always there for all sorts of things. My take of it is this - his supporters should pray for him not to be locked up. One thing I know is that he will be a key player in 2012.

Njuguna have you paid Oloo to provide you with an ad space to tell us when and how Uhuru was conceived. Most of us were not there to witness this momentous occassion. But we do know that Uhuru is facing the fight of his life at The Hague accused of committing crimes against humanity in Kenya not so long ago. Please don't let that small fact disturb your celebrations. I allow my kids to celebrate their birthdays but the moment a 50 year fella invites me to their birthday party I am calling the police. Something is wrong. We can tolerate people doing it for Mandela because he is an icon. But people accused of mass killing and rapes in our country, I don't want to hear about their birthdays.

52. Did you know that Uhuru was chain smoking in front of Ambassador Prof. Ruthie Rono in front of the Carlton Ambassador in the Hague in full public glare? Do you know that he smoked weed in my car (rental) a few months ago during a G7 tour of Western Kenya, paying the driver 2K for each spliff he was allowed to murder in the car? Do you know that the same Uhuru got so pasted that he had to be literary carried into his room at the Carlton Ambassador? These are useless facts you didnt know about the birthday boy. But I only waited until I had read these preceding 51 new fascinating but useless facts I didnt know about Uhuru. Hope the birthday boy got rightfully pasted as bad boys should do on their big day. Happy Birthday Uhuru.

Enigma:
Have you ever considered the possibility that Uhuru Kenyatta and his close associates are right here in Jukwaa?
Folks:
You are free to post anything you like as long as you are aware that Jukwaa has its rules and that you are still PERSONALLY responsible for that "anything" if it turns out to be defamatory or meet the threshold for libel.

You mean like back it up with photos? No, those I havent got. But the press can prove to you that there was a G7 tour of western province and the birthday boy was present. About smoking weed and getting pasted, I mean isnt that common knowledge? The associates should verify and then sue me if turns out to be false allegations. And no am not going to expose my driver to Mungiki. Try a different one. Uhuru's arrival at Bungoma Airstrip for the Rally hosted by Eugene. And here is the story with yet another photo: in2eastafrica.net/ruto-and-uhuru-vow-to-stay-on-campaign-trail-to-the-end/

This is from a friend who lives and works in Netherlands, who was at the ICC to see the case and also he was at the event that was hosted by Netherlands Ambassador. Here are his exact comments to me, he has alot pictures to prove what UHURU was doing at Hague besides the case.
"Mob sana sana....!!! fotoz plus the agenda that Ambassador to netherland hosted him na the last meal we kenyans and friends took at the Ambassador house where by he planted tree ya wangari Maathai.... All trips from home to the court he was driven by his exellency madaam ambassador to netherlands pamoja. Na there were no place that he did something that kenyans in netherlans and in Belgium hawakujua he was even free yaani he had time to talk to people of all generation. Na time to exchange even jokes za ulaya na what not. So hio ni propaganda tu."
