Today's Star (February 17, 2012) has an interesting story (page 5) concerning VP Kalonzo Musyoka, Minister George Saitoti and Royal Media Services boss SK Macharia: The question that i must now ask is - what did they discuss? Speculate.

Folks, no wonder Moi feared S K Macharia & tried his best to destroy his media empire before it took off back in the day. Is this man Kenya's Rupert Murdoch. What was he up to meeting with the Viper & George Saitoti on separate occasions? "It seems that whatever Royal Media Services boss SK Macharia gets up to in his Gatanga home is of great interest to someone. Video clips doing the rounds show him separately receiving Vice- President Kalonzo Musyoka and Internal Security minister George Saitoti at his home on different dates last month. One of the clips — five minutes long — shows Kalonzo arriving in a blue chopper with a yellow stripe registration no 5y-ENG which lands in a banana plantation. Thereafter, the clip shows SK Macharia escorting Kalonzo back to the chopper. They walk up and down in front of the chopper chatting before they hug goodbye and Kalonzo, and the CEO of a top city hospital, enter the chopper and leave. The same clip also shows George Saitoti walking out of SK Macharia's house. Macharia escorts Saitoti to a convoy of vehicles parked outside." www.the-star.co.ke/national/corridors-of-power/62962-corridors-of-power

He is the Rupert Murdoch of Kenya! The RMS's stable of ethnic stations gives them a national footprint that not only rivals KBC's but gives them the additional capability of broadcasting in the vernacular across the country. SK is well positioned to take advantage of the county setup & promise "surgical strike" campaign messages unique to particular regions for those who want to take their ideas upcountry. They could even vary slightly from region to region & no one would be the wiser.

The story sounds credible, the CEO in question must be Dr. Mailu of Nairobi Hospital. He is well known for sucking up to politicians. His intentions to run for political office are the worst kept secret at the hospital. For the past 3 years or so, the guy has been taking all the corporate social responsibility exercises (without exception) by the hospital to Ukambani. Mailu is also a well known crony of mwana wa Tseikuru's. I'll be waiting to see whether he will be elected, and how he is going to conduct himself.

Luoldeng, that's a sobering thought. If I were a politician who has crossed paths with Kalonzo "the Viper" Musyoka, that connection between him & the good Dr Mailu would be enough to send a chill up my spine & have me cross off the Nairobi Hospital from my list of preferred establishments should my health nose-dive.

Fortunately the guy doesn't have much control over the doctors. The doctors there are their own brands. He however exercises a lot more control on the Nurses & other staff. Like his political benefactor, Kalonzo, he is a guy who will do anything to please anyone who is remotely powerful. We have had of instances where politicians have rubbed the hospital staff the wrong way, whenever he gets such complaints from the politicians (across the political spectrum), he fires his staff immediately and forgets about it. It has resulted in several terminations, and in most cases the politicians were clearly on the wrong.
