What was the real motive for the Standard & KTN "snake-bit-raid"[/i]
This whole Artur brothers saga is simply more than tabloid stuff. It will simply not go away as previously assumed by some quarters. After the infamous raid on the premises of The Standard and KTN last year, it can be recalled that the Internal Security Minister, John Michuki, publicly admitted that the government facilitated the raid to avert the publication of an article he deemed as posing possible threat to national security.
The question of what really motivated the Standard raid must now be re-examined, with recent revelations about an alleged assassination plot on Baringo Central MP, Gideon Moi by none other than the man at the center of the controversy, Mr. Artur Margaryan.
Was the government, and John Michuki in particular, afraid that the Standard newspaper got hold of information and was about to publish dossier about this (or other) assassination plot on Gideon Moi? Was this the national security threat issue referred to by John Michuki?
President Kibaki's (soon to be) son-in-law, Artur Margaryan, who's also wanted by Interpol, seems to enjoy full confidence of his (soon to be) mother-in-law, Mary Wambui, our co-First Lady aka the Othaya Narc activist aka Mama bling bling.
Through "business" and now matrimonial links, it is claimed within certain quarters that the Artur brothers have enjoyed unlimited access to State House and State Lodge corridors with buffling ease. Many are wondering what the political motives, if any, of such conspicuous access to Kenya's symbolic houses of power could be (or have actually been yielded).
Such political motives may still be beyond the public's optic limits. From the adage, birds of a feather flock together, Mary Wambui and her daughter Winnie Mwai's feathers seem to the same colourful feathers of the Arturs.
Internal Security Minister John Michuki and other government figures fervently deny existence of any State House access by the Arturs, even proclaiming that the brothers are persona-non-grata in Kenya. Mary Wambui's previously covered Narc-K public functions seem to be fading, in fact being recently over shadowed by her rival Lucy's well covered political and public relations exercises, sometimes done while invoking God's name(note Rucy's recent "call" by God to visit Mt. Elgon clash victims).
John Michuki once publicly defended the questionable brothers as genuine "Investors" and it is claimed by the Opposition that his own Internal Security Ministry offered state protection to the two, with the CID branch facilitating the ridiculous appointments of the brothers as Assistant Commissioners of Kenya Police.
When artifacts largely associated with under-cover CID agents such as government registered vehicle plates, state owned guns and ammunition, commando regalia similar to those worn by the Standard raiders, security clearance badges, Assistant Commissioner name tags and other undisclosed items, (not forgetting stolen vehicles) were all found in the Runda home previously occupied by the Artur brothers, millions of eyebrows were raised.
The connection between these bizzare events and the refusal by the governement to conduct comprehensive questioning of all involved parties during the Kiruki Commission of Inquiry, besides it's failure to publicly release the commission's findings raised even more eyebrows
It is publicly alleged that John Michuki and former CID boss Kamau, relied on the Arturs to execute the infamous "snake-bite-raid" of The Standard premises last year, without knowledge by the Police Commissioner Maj. Gen. Ali.
John Michuki is accused again of having facilitated the safe passage to Dubai of the two brothers after they breached national security at the JKIA Airport, further creating a public storm.
It must be recalled that while all these were happening, the public and many political leaders repeatedly called upon the Internal Security Minister to resign, a call that was quickly rebuffed by none other than President Kibaki who firmly stood by Michuki with his arrogant remark, "Hata mkiwachukia mtufanya nini?"
The message sank well with the public. The President had confirmed his full complicity in these bizzare activities surrounding the equally bizzare Artur brothers. The similarity of his feathers to the bizzare characters was revealed. Noted also was his salient message that the public could simply do nothing whether or not they hated his government agents like Michuki, protecting the bizzare characters.
We now know that the relationship with the bizzare Artur characters is even getting serious, with the solidification of ties between them and Kenya's first family. Gideon Moi and most Opposition figures know that this is not soap opera, a planned wedding is coming very soon that will make the dreaded Artur Margaryan part of Kenya's first family. Talk of chicken coming home to roost!
Well, on the media and public circles, something must have happened despite all the unfolding events, causing a shift of political tectonic plates. John Michuki and company don't appear too comfortable with the unfolding events and would wish these fellows are quickly forgotten by wananchi. Artur Margaryan seems to have read the cue and decided to spill "some" beans. He has infact earnestly started spilling those beans.
Part of those beans supposedly involve a son of former President Moi, the current Baringo Central MP, Gideon Moi. Gideon Moi was supposedly on Artur's assasination hit-list, at a time when the younger Moi had both his passport and personal gun license (& gun) withdrawn. It is not known yet, who else might have been on this list?
In retrospect, was the older Moi's sudden change of heart towards Kibaki following the referendum dictated by intelligence he received about his son's personal security?
Moi's sudden turn-around and softening of stand towards Kibaki's government may offer more than meets the eye. What may actually be surprising is that Moi may not be a fan of the Kibaki mandarins and cabal including John Michuki whom he's previously accused of misadvising and misleading Kibaki.
I may postulate that Moi was probably "buying" his family's safety through the simple act of politically cajoling Kibaki's government. He may unload a bombshell much to Kibaki's surprise when the opportune moment comes.
While others like Macharia Gaitho are hypothesising Artur's recent exposition as simple black-mail, the fact that Gideon Moi himself has confirmed receipt of intelligence towards threats on his personal safety just when he had been stripped of a gun and barred from leaving Kenya is significant.
The mere realization by Daniel Arap Moi that his own son could also be "Ouko-ed" must have awoken him to his post-presidency vulnerabilities and fallabilities. He is thus very keen on playing political zonal defense in the near future.
The vigor by which John Michuki has come out defending himself against accusation by Artur Margaryan about "a certain cabinet minister seeking to have Gideon eliminated", published through the Standard, raises many questions.
Was this Gideon-Moi-assasination-dossier the actual "national security threat" that Michuki once referred to as motive for raiding the Standard premises?
unedited.
