Job
I am sure the ODM is shaking in the knees already looking at this formidable lineup. Good Lord. Why not just have a simple party structure, even if Tuju, he of the PPP fame, is the compromise chairman. Give him a deputy. Martha Karua would look good there. Get someone like Kirwa or Kituyi as the S.G and give Mwangatana something.
This is what happens when political bankruptcy goes up a notch. These guys are like the proverbial deer caught on the headlights. No idea whether to jump to the left or the right and taking time to make that decision. That is a dangerous spot to sit at.
My take on all these is that Kenya is changing rapidly in terms of voter alertness to petty trickery. Wanasiasa are scared to death. They used to herd folks and mesmerize them with power and wealth. Now wananchi are taking their money and telling them to go to hell. The youth are even more threatening to the wanasiasa. They booed the V.P the other day in Magarini and told him to take his Narc K and stuff it. It is a tough terrain out there.
I think Kibaki will run as a Narc candidate not Narc Kenya, which is a toxic party. Kenyans are pretty hostile to this Narc K thing. It seems to carry with it all the arrogance of the DP clique which is desperate to cloth it into something else. So far, nothing doing. And they know it. In another ten years or so, Narc Kenya will be okay if it survives the tsunami, but I doubt it will.
So Kibaki goes in as Narc, which means he has to negotiate with Kombo and Nyachae to give him nominal support. Ngilu is waiting to see where Kalonzo goes. They may compromise and settle in ODM, but we have to wait and see.
The advantage Kibaki has is that he will run as the incumbent and will be judged on the basis of his record, the promises they made, the scandals, the "economic boom" and the furious tribalism which today dominates the national affairs of our country among others. In a way it doesn't matter which party Kibaki runs on except Narc K is too DP and too tribalized for his open membership. Secret membership? That is another matter. Everybody knows the real owners of Narc Kenya. Why they have to hide in the back tells the whole story. We will find them.
The real trouble is for the M.P's. By the way all these Kibaki "heavyweights" will be fighting for their lives in their own constituencies. Kibaki is on his own. They will show up now and again to be seen to be near Kibaki, but they have to dodge the bullets in their home turf. No more Raila Odinga, no more Moody Awori etc transversing the country for him. Nobody in the Narc K lineup can carry Kibaki, as a matter of fact, Kibaki has to carry most of them. That is going to be some weight.
The crazy thing here is that the union of Narc K, Ford K and Ford People while giving Kibaki a nominal boost, will wreak havoc at the constituency level. Just look what happened at the Magarini. Those who do not get the preferred Narc ticket will go back to their parties and they are very likely to end up with a situation where Kibaki allies are fielding two to three candidates in many constituencies. They are going to face the fiasco the ODM faced during the Marsabit plane crash by-elections. Granted ODM will have similar problems, but at least the ODM has had time to harmonize its grassroots structures and may get off a little better.
The real advantage here for ODM at the constituency level is that they are fighting to kick out an incumbent regime which is very much resented in many parts of the country. It is much easier to unite the votes and make defection irrelevant when you are fighting to remove an existing regime. It is going to be a nightmare for Kibaki to unite his aspirants since they have nothing to unite against. All the aspirants allied to Kibaki are going to say well, we still support the president but we all want to be M.P's. Just as incumbency has its advantages it also has many disadvantages as we will soon see.
The bottom line here is that Kenyans are fighting to end the era of political parties owned by individuals who use them as private properties. They want internal party democracy and the leaders are way behind. Many of these M.P's are going to be raia come January 08.
But to tell you the truth the idea of 8 V.P's ala Kanu 1966 is itself a sign of a party in crisis looking for temporary solutions. These guys are saying give us anything that can get us back to parliament and throw it away as soon as we get there. If they think Kenyans will buy that they are in for a rude shock.
I am suprised they never gave a position to the Narc activist. I thought she could fit in with Hon. Stanley Livondo in the Resource Mobilization department. What a bunch of jokers, they actually take that nut case Livondo very seriously. Ata kama ni pesa, jameni, what hapenned to a little respect. Pimping a political party to moneybags is a very bad idea. That is what I think.

Interesting!
AO you got it again! The baboon and the MPs have still not yet sorted things out and events are in flux. The Baknistas were hoping that ODM implodes which may well happen what with Moi wooing KM and Uhuru. As you put it, the union of Narc K, Ford K and Ford People while giving Kibaki a nominal boost will wreak havoc at the constituency level. But this conudrum also faces ODM. Good example is Mvita between taib and Najib.
This list Job published is so clunky and I wonder if there are too many cooks and not enough pots? Can I say more fallout???
What excits me is the plethora of young idealistic candidates ODM has in Western and Nyanza that I personally support.
Tuju is cooked and he knows it. A chirping bird told I told me he is colluding with the lawyer guy in ODM/Rarieda to run against my candidate the hard working Engineer. To what end I dont know. The other ODM candidate that I am helping out in Budalangi is doing pretty well too.
I hope the comrade here (And this was a pleasant suprise to know!) is also going to do us honors and weed out the dead wood around R as he makes his run towards the Presidency.
Western province is primed for monumental change! And some parts of Nyanza too, especially Kisii, you would be shocked at Rs support there.
I was there for a whole month and half.

PmaniacYes the ODM too will have those hiccups like Taib & Balala trying to get an ODM ticket in Mvita. But those problems are going to be nothing compared to the fiasco that awaits Narc K, Ford Kenya and Ford People patch work. Honestly I don't think the DP think tank which gives orders to Awori even know what they are doing. It looks like they are shooting in the dark and taking chances. I was surprised that people like Kituyi who refused to address the gathering even after being called to do so by the VP were not even consulted before the shopping list was read to them. www.eastandard.net/hm_news/news.php?articleid=1143968141How can they do something stupid like that? They should have consulted at least the key elements and let them mobilize others and convince them to at least pretend to be united. It seems people were just summoned a list read and that is it. What I find funny is that there is really no fear for any of these key Narc K elements defecting anywhere. Where are they going to go? Why bembereza them? They should have just consulted pick a list and have normal party interim leadership. Those who are mad can pout for a few days and come back. None of these guys is going to help Kibaki win anything. They need Kibaki more than he needs them. But Kibaki is dancing like a yoyo. Can't make any decisions. Besides he is trying to run the party through remote control. He can't even publicly identify with the party. What is he scared of? Now they are having this moribund Narc K with a hundred leaders all angling for the succession ticket (they should worry more about Kibaki's re-election) and then they will join other disintegrating parties (The Fords) and they think Kenyans after the fiasco with Narc will elect something like that. Nop. This is a team where it is obvious everybody is just waiting to get on each others neck as soon as the election is over. If they continue this way, the ODM will take the House without a doubt. The battle will be to wrestle Kibaki to the ground. I think the nation is ready for that battle too. This Kibaki titanic is going down badly. Adongo

Things are getting interesting, and interestingier You will not believe it but DP is still A-L-I-V-E!!
Yes that DP formerly known as KOBOLE!
A die hard NARKist whose wife has just returned to Kenya to view for a seat IN Central has officially decamped from NARC-K to DP due to the uncertainty in viability of the various eponymous NARCs or FORDs.
He specifically talks of "NARC - kufa!!"
Seems like these guys like akina Tuju and Kituyi are running around like decapitated roosters. They have no sense of direction and things are so much in flux. Mbwa-tana the croc eater vacillates hot and cold, mara he is in mara out.
Lets get front line seats are watch these bastards self destruct in their power grab.

NARC-K seems to have really ruffled some feathers if you consider the feverish response to the Awori list from the Jukwaa ODM brigade!! I notice that Adongo takes it a step further by even suggesting who should have been where in the line-up!
Perhaps what I would have expected is a celebration that finally NARC-K has decapitated itself with the line-up and that it had thrown a lifeline to ODM!
But if you seriously think about it, is this not the same thing ODM has suggested about multiple vice presidents and deputy prime ministers?

Adongo,
Should it not just be easier to say NARC-K is a kikuyu party rather than hide under political correctness by calling it DP?
I do not think you are as informed of the Kenyan political situation as some of us on the ground are and perhaps Pmaniac may have a better insight into th goings on than you do. Yes for NARC-K, their biggest headache is not Kombo or Ngilu or enen Nyachae, but the quite re-emergence of DP in central!
So do quit the tribal tagging of NARC-K!
The bigger problems for NARC-K is the fact that close to 70% of the MPs supporting it have no grassroot support and on a straight fight they will lose their seats. Under the circumstance the re-emergence of DP is intended to offer a parliamentary route to those who feel that NARC-K MPs are trying to get themselves re-elected through the back door.
What is important is that the fight for parliamentary seats has no impact on the support all these people have for Kibaki!

Kamale
I think it is quite simplistic to just label Narc K a Kikuyu party, even though some may want it to be something like that. Tuju is the Chairman, right? I can't say for sure, but he is my neighbour and I can confidently assume he is not a Kikuyu.
When we talk about the DP, it actually refers to the network of friends around Kibaki and they are not all Kikuyus. Their erand boys like Tuju may be convinient decorations on the wall, but still the real DP is a tight collection of friends around Kibaki. It includes the likes of Habel Nyamu, Munyao, Murage of State House, kina Wanjui, Eddie etc. We know them.
I think you are getting yourself confused for no reason. What is that about the re-emergence of the D.P in Central Province? D.P and Narc K are the same thing, the only trouble is because everybody who is anybody wants to go to Bunge ( big bucks) people are backing more than one party, in case they miss the boat on the other one.
Your are right that in Central, there is a sense the existing M.P's will snatch Narc K tickets, that is really what the fear for Narc K elections is about. So those who want to contest seats are holding on to their D.P side of the ticket in case they don't make it through with Narc K.
Of course most of the candidates will still support Kibaki, the issue for Kibaki and that is where Nyachae, Kombo and Ngilu come in, he needs allies. Central Province votes alone cannot get Kibaki-relected. He knows it, his advisors knows it and so far everything they have tried is not working. I also think the opposition will make inroads in Central Province. Kenyans are going to listen. Let's not forget that.
The trouble for Kibaki right now is that he gave everybody a little piece of the Narc K leadership. This may be good for people like Livondo, but it does no good to the big sharks.
Kituyi needs something big in his hand, like being the Chairman of Narc K or Kibaki's running mate to have any hopes of building some momentum in Western. What he got is too little to do him any good. Kirwa needs the same to have any hopes in the Rift Valley. He got nothing much. Don't forget Kombo is waiting.
Kibaki is doing the hyena walk. You remember the going two directions at the same time. That can hurt.
They gave Tuju the big stick to keep everybody guessing and waiting. They might just be running out of time. Building alliances are tough. The 2002 Narc worked fast because there were already two organised groups (NAK and LDP). It is not going to be that easy for Kibaki. Besides nobody can take an MoU with Kibaki to their potential supporters and be taken seriously.

DP is enjoying a grass root renaissance of sorts in Central. NARC, NARC-k are formless political organizations at the moment. The so called kitchen cabinet around the clueless 'leader' want total control but anonymously. They want quislings like Tuju and Kituyi to front the party while they pull the strings remotely. It seems Kituyi was not ready to just play ball but actually effect policy and hence the coup against him.
The othaya baboon is in a quandry that even his hardline theocrat supporters from central have recognized. They are now wailing and gnashing teeth that he dump his "kitchen cabinet", an neferious organization that R has said he will do away with.
Bravo!
