My life partner/spouse died suddenly on May Day after a very brief illness in Mombasa.
She is being buried on May 10th 2007.
To say that I am shocked sounds rather trite.
I will reflect more and post a longer piece in the coming days.
Apologies if you notice a longer than usual silence on my part on this forum.
Sincerely,
Onyango Oloo

My condolences, dear Onyango! I understand she was a Christian, so you certainly won't be offended if I offer a prayer for her. May the earth be light to her, and may the Lord embrace her soul with love.

Find that inner strength. Exude strength, that your son might be strengthened.

Oloo,
Mos! This is terrible.
Just hung in there. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
Please give me your tel #. I misplaced it. I'll visit you after the funeral as I'm around.

Dear All: It has been simply overwhelming- I mean the messages of support coming via email, sms, phone calls, face to face, through friends and colleagues in Kenya, across Africa and overseas in the wake of the sudden demise of my life partner/spouse Njeri on May 1, 2007. My family, Njeri's relatives are grateful and they have asked me to convey on their behalf, their deep appreciation for all that you have done so far. Of course as I keyboard these lines, Kenya is engulfed in sorrow as news trickles in, hour by hour, on the unfolding tragedy involving the fateful KQ Flight 507 that crashed in the Equatorial forest in Cameroon. Our thoughts are with the families of the Cameroonians, Comorese, Kenyans, Ivorians and nationals from various countries around the world whose loved ones may very well have perished in that aerial accident. In terms of updates, the date of Njeri's burial has been moved to Monday, May 14th 2007, partly to allow me to attend my aunt's funeral who died twenty hours before Njeri.
More details to follow. Also, those in Nairobi should look forward to more information on a public event to celebrate Njeri's life that is being organized by a consortium of civil society organizations. This event is tentatively slated for Wednesday, May 9th, 2007 and you will be provided with further details in the next couple of days. Once again ahsante and shukran for all those messages of support. Sincerely,
Onyango Oloo Nairobi
