amadain brought this to my attention, on another thread. Some Jukwaaists may have already watached it, but there may be those, like me, for whom it is new. I am posting the link here as that other thread may not be of interest to all. video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4157344954321515798

I am posting the link here as that other thread may not be of interest to all. video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4157344954321515798Thanks for posting this documentary again.. this is painful and discouraging but Kenyans must forge on.. corruption & impunity can only stop if and when Kenyans decided to fight it head on.. and that means from every level.. But in the absence of any obvious sense of urgency from our own politicians, Kenyans citizens must fight the battle hopefully elect MP's that are ready & willing to move swiftly against corruption and impunity ( "I guess wishful thinking seeing the candidates lined up come 2013 elections") Githongo had the insight to record ministers trying to cover corruption and stay the statuesque.. he had a plan and presented facts.. but wapi Kibaki looked the other way.. I'm not implying Kibaki government is the only one engaged in corruption big time but after he come to power in 2002.. he should have stood against it but instead he reinstated the same ministers who were caught in the caught in the act by people like Githongo and including many other corruptions scandals like Anglo leasing, Grand Regency e.t.c.. Corruption began immediately after Kenya gained independent through distribution of Land in places like Rift Valley, Nairobi & Mombasa to Kenyatta's family members & his cronies.. Nepotism nepotism rears its ugly head in the way government position were allocated to most of the first president family & cronies.. and continued through Moi's presidency with Goldenberg scandal among others, and now Kibaki's.. Kenyans must find a way to get rid of this cancer known as corruption, it won't be an easy task but it is a task that must be done sooner than later.. "it is out turn to eat must be flushed in the toilet.. nobody should have a turn to eat" that is not how Kenya should be managed as a country.. but wapi it will take some brave people with a rungu to stop corruption and impunity from top to Bottom down to the streets of Kenya. Yup!! Kenya has a long way to go to combat corruption.

Just in timeResidents plan to sue firms over slum landA presidential aspirant is among dozens of influential politicians and businessmen who own land on which slums in parts of Nairobi sit. The slum dwellers are going to court this week to lay claim to the land on which they have lived for years citing public interest.
Muungano Wa Wanavijiji, an umbrella group championing the rights of the slum dwellers, starts its landmark court action on Wednesday. In what promises to be an epic judicial battle between the title holders and the slum dwellers, the group will also be claiming that the titles to these plots are no longer valid. They will argue that the legal owners have failed to use the land for the purposes it was allocated. In Mukuru Kwa Njenga alone, some 51,000 families composed of more than 260,000 people and occupying 161 acres are under threat of eviction by the owners of the land. Among those to be sued is presidential aspirant and Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo who, through Kuza Farms Ltd, owns 2.5 acres at Mukuru Kwa Reuben, home to some 3,000 slum families.
Some of the well-known local companies also set to be sued by the activists include Orbit Chemical Industries, Nash Motors, Affiliated Business Contacts Ltd and Embakasi Developers.Story continued www.nation.co.ke/News/Politicians+to+face+off+with+slum+dwellers+in+court/-/1056/1500926/-/14ngnv7z/-/index.htmlYup! sad part is this same corrupt people are lining up to get into parliament to line their pockets with more corruptly acquired government deals.. won't be surprised if half of the crocked corrupt candidates are elected come 2013!

Did you see how quickly you can register a "briefcase" NGO? Instant free money! (for a modest down-payment of 10,000)

I'll post the link on the documentary thread I started some time back. My intention was to have a thread where folks could post documentaries so that we could have them all on the same thread for easier reference. Anyways, I saw how articulate ordinary Kenyans are. I saw too how clearly they get the issue up to and including how it affects them on the daily. It was an excellent format for the journalist guy to live out the experiences; as he recorded and commented as well as interviewed people about their lives mired in corruption. it lays bear the muck that is our country. I thought through the documentary by thinking about the upcoming elections and what the future portends for Kenya given this issue of corruption. I wondered what Raila Odinga the leading contender for the presidency could or would do about it. Things that make you go hmm!

After following this documentary I feel like I was weight-lifting. Someone wise there in says "... they have no heart and soul in what they are doing".

That's great, I didn't know there was a documentary thread. Once it pops back up to the main page I'll add a few more interesting videos.

Perhaps this one should be "pinned" permanently?
