"....The Kenyan African middle-class is running from their languages. In the process, they perpetrate child abuse on a national scale.
For to deny a child, any child, their right to mother tongue, to bring up such a child as a monolingual English speaker in a society where the majority speak African languages, to alienate that child from a public they may be called to serve, is nothing short of child abuse, and also quite frankly, national abuse...."www.nation.co.ke/News/-/1056/1531040/-/xsr7g5z/-/index.html

Teacher was a humanist until he died.
do you see with the type of middle class we have a situation like when Brazil was crossing from military to civilian rule playing itself here in reverse i.e. as more chaos is created it may make sense to have our army in Somali so that locally with blasts (Al Shabaab); in Kisumu we have the USA and Chinese gangs; in Coast the MRC; while in Tana the Ormas and the Pokomos etc.
Teacher called for 'critical reflection' and hence when we see sheng language what do we have to say to that. what of the reality that the Pan African movements of early 20th century were supported by African Americans plus those from the Careabean yet if we were to believe Ngugi we would have expected more of locals (from Africa) to spearhead the emancipation of the brothers and sisters in the America?
there is knowledge resulting from pure experience which is different from that resulting from rigorous methodological procedure but they need not constitute a rapture but a sort of further stage in the knowing process. Teacher told us this further stage, which is a continuity rather than a rapture happens when ingenious curiosity while remaining curious become capable of self criticism.
on the contrary it is a posture of balance that neither deifies nor demonizes technology. a posture that is from those who consider technology from a critically curious standpoint!

Thanks KK. I see the man calling for investigation by the UN ... not the strange allegation that I begged for some light on, to no avail. Now Mukwhasi wants me to go searching in Google for what he might have been alluding to ... as if he was not aware that I can Google when he thought it was necessary to make his allegation. Mukwhasi, why not leave everything to Google, including your outrageous allegation?

PS Dont ask me to spoon feed you.Mukwhasi, So you come here blabberiing dismissive claims against a dignified Kenyan, then you claim that it is not your work to substantiate the claim. Whose is it then? I have a view of Ngugi Wa Thiongo, from wide literary works. So i do not have reason to go looking into Google ... not even after your allegations. I have done what I can do as respect for your input, i.e., ask you to provide what you have, which would be a surprise if it exists. Needless to say, what you allege of him does not match. So it is all about you, and you are terribly unqualified to judge and dismiss without availing the substance of your case! You can substantiate your claim if you think otherwise, or just pretend you never said anything about it. And, please, lets be adults here. If you call yourself, Mukwhasi, I will be adult enough to call you Mukwhasi, and not Mukwashit. Would you do the same, or do you wish to discuss with my son who might buy into that juvenile behaviour?

The chief purpose, in this capitalism, is that they, the rest, then remain only capable of sustaining a living by selling their labour, or their bodies, to the owners of the means of production. --Their options and freedoms then take shape within the needs of the class that owns both THEM and the means of production. I have always applied this theory to languages, ever since, to my amazement when I left Africa for the first time, I found nobody else, apart from the natural english countries and former colonies, conducting their education in the universal language english. The French do their rocket science in french, the Germans in German, the Koreans in Korean, the Iranians/Persians in Farsi, and Japs in Japanese. And so on. Colonialism, I thought, can also be understood as the cultural process of distancing from the natural, mother language of the colonial. This is to render the colonial culturally a vacuum such that the new order fills him and becomes his only reference point. He is re-constructed in the image designed by the colonialist. The natural language is a bastion of resistance, and this must be banned, purged for in it are still the live seeds, may be dormant, but have still the potential to unleash a counter world view --singing about a world where folks were not slaves, and dreaming about freedom, and her battles. Resistance. I am therefore confident Ngugi is right when he mildy talks of a lazy middle class. [If I have time I will delve into how come Isaac Newton wrote his Principalis de Mecanica in Latin! and not english, so that we can appreciate how old this argument is. It is a common saying amongst english cultural nationalists: it took William Shakespeare to expunge the inferiority complex of the latin oriented english gentry, and make them join the national language of the masses [anglo-saxons], and reject the 'elite' Latin!I am sure this is the kind of cultural revolution Ngugi is hinting at. And it is the stuff Okot P'Bitek went to the grave singing about. But these days my problems with the African middle class is of an economic nature, and more immidiate. They can not run competitive systems, such that even the next ' galbion' or mini bridge near my home, is designed and built under the supervision of a 21 year old Chinese draftsman! Meanwhile my maternal cousin has a masters in civil engineering, but he is a former airforce man! now civilian airliner! Pays better than building roads, he assures me as he watches me lavishly appreciate his latest single-malt import! ;D

ManK Im entitled to my opinion and it will remain as such.I will not indulge you further in this. Obviously you are entitled to your opinions. When you feel to feed them to others though, you will be asked to substantiate them. Since you cannot rise up to to such a challenge you should just keep your opinions to yourself. No one was asking you anything until you came here trying to make them everybody's opinions. I am not interested in indulging you either. I have better things to do with my time.
