My very deepest and sincere condolences to Mr And Mrs Raila Odinga. I respect this family and truly sympathize with their tragedy.. Three Day's ago I read this from one Mugo Wa Kibiru titled "Tell it like it is" According to him "Fidel died of Alcohol overuse and abuse" "Perhaps there were recreational drugs involved, but we are not certain of that, so we wont speculate" Kibiru wrote.. According to him, Fidel Odinga had "without a doubt, drunk one too many" "Remember he got home at around 2AM and had to seek hired drivers to drive his own care to get him home?" Mugo States.. He argues that "In our society, it is expected that kids of the rich live and act as our "role models"... And so... "Whenever they die in circumstances like these, they are packaged as having lived the best lives worth "we the people" emulating... "They are good born again Christians too, who never failed to attend church when they were alive, and as they make their journey to heaven, we must ensure their good names are not tarnished...even when lying in coffins" Then this.... "Fidel was good kid, undoubtedly and there is not a need to prove he wasn't. And this... However, Raila likes to show himself as a trend setter. .. And for that, Mugo stated that he expects that ... "If Fidel died of alcohol abuse, then Raila should come out and "state it as it is" He advised Raila as follows "Don't try to hide things" And why? ..."You will be standing above the pack as the saviour of millions of other youth in the same condition as your beloved now dead son" He continued... "This will be a perfect example to show that the rich also cry, and the social issues bedevilling our country are not just a preserve of the poor" And ... "Raila, this is your time now. And yes, I know your political adversaries will try and milk your honesty for cheap political mileage, but history will judge. I say this... because Raila likes to use the west as his example. So Mugo reminded him of.. Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston etc who all died of substance misuse and that no one try to hide these facts. He classified the Kenyan autopsy processes as.... "All these nonsense that we needed natural light, the results were inconclusive, send samples overseas, get scotland yard etc does not help anyone" He continued... "Perhaps a preliminary report stating unusually high contents of alcohol, were found, but we need to find other toxics if at all any as an abundance of caution would have sufficed. He tried to shed some light with this... "In the 21st Century, there is no need having pathology labs in Kenya, if after a whopping 12 hours we can get even the basics right" And finally... Raila and Ida, this is your moment of truth. Kenyan youth are dying in scores from alcohol. Need I remind you that the youth mostly affected are those of the Kikuyu....Not Luo's. Come out and state no one is perfect. And for a "God Fearing" Nation like Kenya would know not to throw the first stone... They read their divine books where they learn this don't they? Or just do the Western thing and release a press briefing and all will be forgotten. The briefing will read "We are asking members of the public to let us mourn in peace. All matters including the cause of death are very private to us" We will heed your advice. But when Kalonzo comes out and starts drawing a relationship of an alcohol related death like this one to that Mutula (Viagra overdose), Kajwang (Obesity - Hearth Attack) then you make the matter public. "I know my name betrays me, but I felt I needed to say what no one else wants to. ( Mugo Wa Kibiru) www.the-star.co.ke/sections/opinions. ARRTICLE: THE FIDEL ODINGA FEW KENYANS KNEW.

In 2005 it was reported that more than 27,000 young people between the ages of 18 and 25 died prematurely in the U.S.
The three leading causes of deaths, which account for over four-fifths of these deaths, were unintentional injuries (e.g., motor vehicle traffic accidents, poisonings, or drownings), homicides, and suicide.
A smaller proportion of premature deaths among young adults were due to rare incurable illnesses, heart attacks, strokes, pneumonia and other diseases or illnesses.
I like everyone else re-traced the step of the young Odinga five days before his death and couldn't help but wonder whether his death could have been avoided, had he chosen his steps wisely.
He is reported to have complained of illness, his dad and mom begged him to stay with them at home and enjoy family time together, He left his wife and child to be with friends and newspapers report that throughout “that night” he was gallivanting from place to place, and eventually he was so intoxicated that he couldn't drive home..
I do not know how much time he spent resting between 23 December 2014 all the way to the time of his death.. I know about fate and all, I have grown up children and I insist on healthy lifestyle choices.
I tell them that you can reduce your risk of early death by making a few simple lifestyle changes. Smoking, high blood cholesterol, alcohol misuse, obesity and physical inactivity and lack of proper rest are all risk factors for premature death. A child born today should expect to live a longer, healthier life than ever before, again there’s a huge gap in life expectancy between the rich and poor, people from poor areas die on average more than people in the most affluent neighborhoods.. Perhaps a lifestyle change for that night, could have prevented the death of Fidel Odinga.
But again, we may never Know what really happened!
RIP Fidel Odinga.

Foresight you are AN IDIOT Moja - what do you think of this admonition … It is written ..."The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride. Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools." "I would have liked to hear your view/s, I will not engage you in denigration… I will not engage you in profanity." You obviously see no value in this contribution... yet I know this.. "The tongue of the wise brings healing." In truth, no one wants to have surgery – but it can save your life!

In truth, no one wants to have surgery – but it can save your life! you are taking us back to the values of 70s and earlier times. one of my elder father lost his Mikaye and just before burial his urology went something like 'she was an excellent mother to our children, firm on the children's discipline but one thing that made me beat her frequently is she never listened to my instruction' this last bit 'deaf to instructions' drew turmurs of disapproval but fast forward to 2015 the superfluous nature we have acquired makes us say 'my fellow leaders let us work together, meaning, it is my turn to eat leave me alone'. yOur writing will earn you barbs as our trend is Kenya is to gloss over unlike the Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston who we all were told died of drug overdose despite the great music they sang. something recent too is the shocking disclosure of CIA toture history so that the Americans can reflect on their past but here we do not want to discuss TJRC report nor admit to what went on in Nyayo and Nyati house totture chambers!

Happy new year. let us "tell it like it is" to this mugo fella. Preliminary examination (autopsy) of fidels body could not conclusively show what killed him. Mugo wa kibiru must posses some godly powers to know for a fact what is still making trained scientists scratch their heads. Amazing. A more detailed report will be out in about six weeks when the samplea have done the toxicology rounds. Now that is scientific fact based on data and evidence as opposed to old wives tales being spun by mugo by the kitchen fireplace. Now, on claims that he drunk too much and a possible drugs link. Is there any data he can show us that he dru k too much ? Was he there with him everyday of the week ? Is he sure it was copious amounts of alcohol that fidel took ? You know doing things "too much " is relative. I dri k once a week on fridays but family says that is too much. Did the drinking affect his life and work ? My grand father drank almoat everyday after my uncle passed away but he still lived to the ripe old age of eighty. For drugs or alcohol to lead to death there surely should have been vital danger signs way before death. A trained eye can spot vital organs that were unhealthy during the autopsy. We would have know. i believe we should await the reaults instead of resorting to unfounded and unproven theories. now that, my friend, is science and is a fact.

Mungu amlaze mahala pema peponi.
Truly, no African man is capable of just dying due to sheer exhaustion or illness. And it is just never his time to go.
So far, Fidel's death according to many Kenyans, can be attributed to:
1. Poisoning (and the country will now be in flames)
2. Murdered by Uhuru or his cronies (the reasons are left unsaid)
3. Used by his father as a human sacrifice in order to win the Presidency in the next General Elections.
4. Died from a cocaine and prescription drug overdose.
5. His wife (why didn't she first call a doctor? Why did they sleep in separate bedrooms?)
6. His ex-wife (at the funeral, even she who has been long out of the picture was dragged into the picture. And of course, her ethnicity was, as well)
So far, no one has mentioned witchcraft.
It is really amazing that a man's time to go can't be just that. His time. From everything I have read so far, this young man appears to have been a loving, kind and well-liked person. The celebration of a "life well lived" has to be overshadowed by chicanery.

So far, no one has mentioned witchcraft. There is still time, Dineo. It is really amazing that a man's time to go can't be just that. His time. That would be too unimaginative... too boring. .... unexploited. I remember one time I learned in Nairobi, while traveling upcountry, that a certain young man had been struck and killed by a bus at the home market the day before. I stopped midway to salute a buddy on that same day ... by that time and place, the cause of the guy's death had been upgraded to AIDS! Folks were eager to get me in the know ".... ukimwi utamaliza watu. Did you hear x died recently?" It looked as if something was taken away from them when I explained the actual cause of death. Just a boring old way to die. I bet "Ebola has killed lots of our people" recently. That's our people. We can't take them too seriously.

A death by natural causes, as recorded by coroners and on death certificates and associated documents, is one that is primarily attributed to – • An illness • An internal malfunction of the body The clincher is this “NOT DIRECTLY INFLUENCED BY EXTERNAL FORCES” • If someone died from complications from influenza (an infection) or a heart attack (an internal body malfunction) they would be listed as having died from natural causes. Omundu, happy New Year, Did you know that Old age is not a scientifically recognized cause of death there is always a more direct cause although it may be unknown in certain cases and could be one of a number of aging-associated diseases. So it is possible that your grandfather could have died of liver failure or kidney failure due to prolonged alcohol use.[joke] Binge-drinking in the past was primarily associated with college students but it’s middle-aged adults who are most at risk when it comes to dying of acute alcohol poisoning specifically—drinking so much that the high concentration of alcohol in the blood shuts down parts of the brain. www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2015/01/alcohol-poisoning-deaths-are-most-common-in-middle-age/384360/, Did you read this report concerning Fidel’s drinking habits? nairobinews.co.ke/fidels-death-robs-social-scene-of-a-regular/ a portion of that article states as follows- “Moments before his death, he had been spotted at different entertainment joints in Nairobi, having a good time with friends. This is not unusual since he FREQUENTED many popular joints in most urban centres across the country but mainly in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu” He also loved expensive whiskey, but close friends say HE WOULD SWITCH FROM ONE BRAND to another” That report made me look into Alcohol poisoning as a possibility.. check this out, www.alcohol.org.nz/alcohol-you/your-body-alcohol/health-effects/alcohol-poisoning. If you are someone who enjoys your alcohol, weed, cocaine, heroin, and your designer drugs then this thought that Alcohol could have been the culprit behind Fidels demise might not be very palatable. If the death of the young man was NOT influenced by EXTERNAL FORCES, then I would say it was natural. If his death was INFLUENCED by External forces, then together with those likely causes that Dineo highlighted, I personally lean towards Alcohol poisoning. I hope I am right... for I do not want to imagine what the situation would be in Kenya if it turned out otherwise. Thank you.

In the insurance industry, they undertake something called 'causation analysis' and this serves the industry in two ways. First to establish liability, is the cause of the loss a direct insured event?;, i.e. if too many cars are being stolen via carjacking, which model is more popular? With such information the industry is then in a position to price the theft risk properly. Coming down to human beings, and excluding the need for an insurance company to know, I keep wondering what the knowledge of the actual cause of death of a person will help me with. First the guy is dead. If he died in a road accident,is it important for me to know that it was due to pancreatic failure or liver damage? Even when someone dies in hospital, there will still be those curious to know the actual disease the dearly departed was suffering from! So as per law, if you do not die in hospital (apparently suffering from a diagnosable disease)then it is mandatory for a postmortem to be undertaken to establish the cause of death. Like in insurance, the reason is to ensure that no crime was committed leading to the death. Our pathologists would mostly look for injuries to point at murder and I highly doubt a death induced by arsenic is anything they would find and the heart attack route would be an easier one to conclude. In cases of alcohol poisoning, it is the damaged body parts that would point at the reason for the death, but failure of the organ damaged is always prescribed as the cause of death. In the case of Fidel, the closest we have come to see a crime is in the mad utterances of Paul Kobia who is alleged to have claimed he killed him. Kobia is an easy one to eliminate considering that he was no where near Fidel based on the company that Fidel was in. Fidel was taken home in his own car by a valet driver which would easily put Kobia out of the picture. Fidel is known to have been with friends he probably ranked more interesting than mama and papa when he declined a family lunch and when these friends are named, they actually are long time friends of his! I have heard outrageous suggestions of the death of Fidel including the Abuja connection alluded to by dineo. I think all this speculation by people is normally intended to achieve a political end or property end (in family disputes!). Once you are dead, unless you can pick the hand that caused it, you grief less by letting go the departed one. You never know they may be in a happier place than you!

Cyprian Nyakundi writes How Slow Alcohol Poisoning Killed Fidel Odinga. The premature death of Fidel Odinga and the mystery surrounding the cause of his death has now taken a new dimension after the larger Jaramogi Oginga Odinga family flew some of the samples to Germany for further analytical tests and examinations. Weekly Citizen has information that the current call by the opposition that Fidel’s death was planned and well executed is after a word started spreading within Cord to the affect that initial reports by the doctors had indicated the death was caused by excessive alcohol consumption that slowly ruined his health. To counter, talk within the opposition and the family is that Fidel died of slow alcohol poisoning inflicted on him from a third force. Initially, an indication which had sunk well in the family of Raila Odinga and the entire Cord fraternity was that Fidel had died of slow alcohol poisoning. According to his pals, Fidel used to drink Vodka without eating. It was after this theory gained credence that the family moved fast and constituted a burial committee and fixed the burial date without raising any undue concern over what led to his death. Insiders say like any other controversial death involving a key opposition figure such as that of Mutula Kilonzo and Senator Otieno Kajwang that raised eyebrows calling for the government to act and come up with concrete findings of circumstances leading to their abrupt death, Fidel’s death has followed the same path. In is said that findings of the late Mutula were so sensational that if released to the public, it could cast doubt over his integrity. For Fidel, the matter got complicated when controversial businessman Paul Kobia made a self confession and damning admission that he killed Fidel. Kobia’s remarks are said to have raised tempers not only within the family but also in the opposition. To complicate matters was the manner in which the state security handled Kobia’s sensitive remarks. To the opposition, Kobia is a well known Jubilee wheeler dealer and at one time was mishandled by Raila supporters at an Italian restaurant located along Lenana Road. It is imperative to note prior to Kobia remarks at Village Market, the first postmortem reportedly failed to reveal the cause of the death. This fuelled speculation with Kenyans saying never in the history of autopsy have pathologists failed to come with the cause unless they are unqualified or are hiding something. Pathologists said Fidel’s stomach was completely empty. Both the family and government doctors concluded that Fidel had been taking hard drinks on an empty stomach for years and the possibility of having negative impact on his liver and kidney was given as one of the underlying factors that might have led to his sudden death. Friends and relatives we talked to say Fidel’s love for Vodka was unrivalled. He used to move from one joint to another to the wee hours of the morning enjoying his drink but rarely eating any food. Countless people have died in their beds and roadsides after a night of bingeing. In fact, it is said that had Fidel that fateful early Sunday morning retired to the same bed with his wife Lwam, his death would probably have been avoided as then she would have called for emergency. With new claims over his death, the family thought twice and agreed that it proceeds with further laboratory analysis outside the country in Germany where Raila was educated, to conclusively determine the cause of Fidel’s sudden death. Preliminarily, the pathologists had noticed abnormal lungs and infection in the throat during the postmortem. Vodka, the brand that Fidel preferred, is said to cause a quarter of all Russian men’s death before they reach their mid-fifties. That Fidel had very little time for food is no secret to the family. This can be supported by the fact that when he visited his father on the day he died, he excused himself when lunch was almost being served and excused himself to a restaurant located around Yaya Centre where he was meeting friends. The matter has now taken a new angle and people are demanding to be told why Kobia has not been arrested and charged with the murder of Fidel. During the burial, it was ODM secretary general Ababu Namwamba who fired the first salvo when he demanded an answer from the Inspector General of Police as to why Kobia was taken for mental tests rather than being arrested and charged with murder. After Kobia was arrested and later taken to the hospital for a mental assessment after he became violent in Gigiri, Kenyans expected to see him arraigned in court but that is yet to happen. According to sources, Kobia was held near the popular Village Market after he started shouting that he was responsible for the death of Fidel. It is now being asked why the government has not taken action and now some claim that Kobia enjoys high level protection from the government. It is said that Kobia had in July last year had his firearm confiscated after he shot and killed a man in Parklands, but surprisingly, by the time he was being arrested, he was found with two other guns. It is not known whether he was again licensed to have arms but sources say Kobia is a well connected man and wields power within the Jubilee government. What is now worrying most is the fact that the police denied reports that Kobia was arrested in connection with Fidel’s death. But the Odinga family now wants Kobia charged with murder. To show how powerful Kobia is, he has been moving in the city in a convoy of vehicles fitted with sirens. The one million dollar question on the lips of Kenyans is: who is this man Kobia? Kobia aka Paul Ilunga Ngoei, is a controversial Kenyan businessman who was mentioned in the 392-page UN report over gold smuggling from Congo. In 2010, Kobia was apprehended and charged with pretending to sell 8.25kg of gold and obtaining Sh17.4 million from a South African Dennis Ray Schmelzenbach. On July 15 last year, he shot dead a man on Limuru Road. His legal firearm, a Browning Pistol, was confiscated and surprisingly, no one knows if he was charged with the murder. Earlier last year, Kobia was embroiled in another controversy when he was caught on video threatening to kill Raila. Flashback, Kobia was beaten by Raila’s bodyguards after he tried to storm the Italian restaurant where Raila was having lunch. He is said to have been armed with a pistol while trying to force himself in. An exchange of words ensued between Kobia and the bodyguards after they tried to stop him from accessing the restaurant. It is after he insisted to enter the restaurant that the bodyguards beat him up. During the Kisumu service, Raila told the mourners that Fidel’s death was not normal and that it could mark the beginning of a new era. According to Raila’s elder brother Oburu Odinga, Fidel’s death is not natural but was the hand of a wicked person. He repeatedly said that the killers must be brought to book. Of all the Odinga family members, Oburu seemed to have been terribly affected by Fidel’s death. cnyakundi.com/2015/01/12/how-slow-alcohol-poisoning-killed-fidel-odinga/

Foresight, your copy pasted Nyakundi story on Fidel above is missing a large chunk on alcohol related liver disease:
"Initially, an indication which had sunk well in the family of Raila Odinga and the entire Cord fraternity was that Fidel had died of slow alcohol poisoning. According to his pals, Fidel used to drink Vodka without eating. Many have succumbed to alcohol-related liver disease which is a range of conditions and associated symptoms. ARLD does not usually cause any symptoms until the liver has been severely damaged. When this happens, symptoms can include: feeling sick, weight loss, loss of appetite, yellowing of the eyes and skin, swelling in the ankles and tummy, confusion or drowsiness, vomiting blood or passing blood in your stools. The disease is frequently diagnosed during tests for other conditions. With the exception of the brain, the liver is the most complex organ in the body. Its functions include: filtering toxins from the blood, aiding digestion of food, regulating blood sugar and cholesterol levels, helping to fight infection and disease It is said the liver is very resilient and is capable of regenerating itself. Each time one’s liver filters alcohol, some of the liver cells die. The liver can develop new cells, but prolonged alcohol misuse over many years can reduce the liver’s ability to regenerate, resulting in serious damage to it. It was after this theory gained credence that the family moved fast and constituted a burial committee and fixed the burial date without raising any undue concern over what led to his death."
The problem with this article is it contradicts what we were told by CORD that the pathologists found no abnormalities in his internal organs. ARLD's effects on his liver should've been obvious if as his pals said he always used to drink vodka without eating.
Also, why are the findings on Mutula's death being held back? Is his integrity greater than closure? Holding back the findings because they'll be "shocking" while allowing others to gain political mileage recounting the "mysterious death" is partially to blame for the polarized nature of KE politics today...

May be, if not a closet one, Foresight is a charged republican whose guts are too delicate to stomach the canonization (into sainthood) of a play-boy come alcoholic crown-prince! You mean these rich kids drink rocks on empty stomachs while they can afford the food!? Wo! what a dastardly generation of suicidal idiots! My dad taught me rule one: build a foundation for chang'aa brands. --and that foundation consisted of a good kilo of fatty Mbuta stake, 1/2 a litre oily soup, 1/4 litre sugarless yoghurt (cha-puoyo), all escorted with tennis-ball sized ugali loads. And, the incomparable old man taught us sons, after one glass to help the digestion, come back and waste your wife away with a stellar fwack. After discharging your conjugal duties thus, then can you return to get drunk with your mates.
