Who ever lead the riot squad needs to be punished for this. Such actions by individual officers give the whole service a bad name!!

Interesting view from 1.47 when the tear gas canister explodes showing how the kids brutalised by the police as claimed by Namwamba in this incident last seen in Sharpville and which calls on the President to apologise! more beatings... and the culprit that threw the canister to the children can be seen at 0:23

I second you on that one Kamale.
The cops who did it should be punished. They were even caught on video.
Besides, Ngilu and the Chair of the National Lands Commission confirmed today that the land indeed belongs to the school. The title deed was gotten in 1972. Apparently the land was grabbed in the late eighties.
The picture i saw of a young girl being carried with tears in the eyes is reminiscent of Hector peterson being carried by the sister during the student uprisings in 1976 in south africa.
Can someone post it here. Sisi ni analogue.

My annoyance is now with the activist who picked the canister from the cop's feet and hurls it at the children.

www.nation.co.ke/news/Langata-pupils-protest-land-grab/-/1056/2594292/-/15rax03z/-/index.html Elija Maina, the Lang'ata OCPD who commanded the operation has been suspended by acting IG Samuel Arachi. This is a horrifying debacle. They steal school land, then use the police to teargas the children demanding their stolen playground back! It is a depravity synchronous with the pathological greed of no conscience. Where to? O Kenya! -- Omundu!everywhere the ceremony of innocence is drowned! .... The Falcon cannot bear the Falconer ... Things fall apart! ---Where to? O beloved Kenya!

I wonder if the new sheriff in town, Nkaisery, had sent a ZERO TOLERANCE circular around station heads! And we just witnessed a blow back.

Uhuruto have completely lost it. Did one sage not warn us that choices have consequences? Who was that sage again? But oh yeah, the activists and the school admin are now at fault and not the choices we made if at all our real choices were respected!

Jakaswanga, the recent actions of the Police Farce seem to hint at this. In any civilized nation the head of the new sheriff in town would roll. When we fail to protect our children's interests & protect those of robber barons then clearly we've lost the plot.

I think what happened yesterday was deplorable and it is all easy to point all the blame at the police. It is always the easier thing to do. So yes the land was grabbed and it is even alleged that the Kidero county government gave planning permission for the fence to be built in December 2014. Swazuri and Ngilu made declarations that the land in question belonged to the school - which did not have a title to the land! - which would have been good if they had taken the step to actually issue the title to give the school authorities to reclaim their land. There is a developer called Airport View Estates who claims to own the land and claims to have allotment papers and I hear he has even gone to court though am not sure what he is contesting.
As matters stood, with the support of two key Lands mandarins, there was no need for the action yesterday that has led to so much anger as the legal process had not broken down. Why were the police there? One Boniface Mwangi had called out activists on twitter the day before to go and occupy the land and the police knowing how similar protests by Mwangi have ended prepared themselves. I honestly do no think they were ever prepared to deal with children demonstrators who had been given placards by Mwangi to join in the protest. Involving the children in such protest activities especially without the permission and supervision of teachers and parents is wrong! It is not the first time school children have been involved in similar land grab protest, but these are always teacher/parent led and not activist led!
As for the tear gas allegations, I still maintain from the clips I posted, the police did NOT throw teargas at the school children.
The Capital FM news clip at 0:23 clearly shows an activist pick up the canister and hurl it in the direction of the school children following which pandemonium broke.
Our police service usually gets caught in a damn if you do and damn if you don't and this is the where they found themselves yesterday. Until the police create an atmosphere of trust, it is inevitable their presence as was the case will be deemed as intended to intimidate the citizenry. Our activists also have a role in playing by the law and merely because they complain of the law allgedly being broken, two wrongs do not make a right!

Kamale, for one who believes that "two wrong's don't make a right" you've gone to great extents to catalog a litany of wrong's that led to the kids and the Police Farce facing off at the playground. Whether the "activists" were also present is really a non-issue. I say again that the cops need to re-evaluate their rules of engagement. The simple question to ask is who had possession of teargas & whether the situation and the repercussions of its use warranted its being fired. Teargas by its very nature will affect EVERYONE around the area, including the very same cops. Knowing there were kids in the vicinity it should not have been used. PERIOD!

It's a broken arrow. Suppose the Ndung' report were to be taken seriously by the law? Who would remain outside Kamiti of our great politicians? N do you know the story of road reserves in Nairobi to begin with? Land? And Kenya: the law of the jungle you mean?

Well Jakaswanga, Nkaissery personally apologized to the kids today. The personal touch gave him some marks to retain his head on his neck. Uhuru was not too pleased with Charity & Swazuri though. Let's see what comes of that...

Let's see what comes of that... I have noticed the tough sheriff is scared of ordering the real thief who annexed the school's land to appear at the nearest police station --i remember the owner of the building which collapsed being ordered, late but better late than never, to avail himself at the nearest police station! Nkaisery is demanding the names of the police commanders on the scene on that day for disciplinary actions. But he knows it must be a very very VIP whose property they were there to protect! Hmm, to last long, a sheriff must pick his gun-fights! ya? Nkaisery knows who not to mess with! toy soldier!

Jakaswanga you must've missed Nkaissery appearing to command his colleague, Ngilu, & the head of the "independent" NLC, Swazuri to name the land grabber(s). www.nation.co.ke/news/Nkaissery-urges-Ngilu-Swazuri-to-name-grabber/-/1056/2597312/-/ore3u/-/index.htmlThe Ministry of Lands is a mess. I can vouch for that having been a victim of the parallel files that exist at registries: the real ones & the fake ones that are honored more than the original files (if they've not been destroyed) because money has been poured to make the fake trump the original. That said, I thought Ngilu shutdown the Lands Registry in Nairobi for days on end to clean things up? It should be a walk in the park to name the owner of the playground....

B6k, my bad, absolutely my bad! I owe the new sheriff a half apology! In the business of back to school after the strike I missed his order to Ngilu!
But if course he could have ordered a detective to the lands office, peruse the records and report to him the the names and signatories of the Lang"taa stink!
He does not have to order an equal, cab sec level, to do that! He is a poor cop!
Now, what will he do about Karen? U remember that multi. Million. Plot? And the one where our Oloo was arrowed?
He got a full plate. On land, our hero from Kajiado! -- see Kimunya on Masai lands!

By bringing up the detective angle RE Nkaissery you've echoed a talking head I saw on TV in the morning wondering why Uhuru needs to wait to be told who owns the land by Ngilu or Swazuri when an NIS agent can get to the bottom of the ownership & have a report on his desk in 5 minutes! Heck they could even tell him why the Land czars are dithering, if indeed they are. The sheriff has been stepping on several colleagues' toes be it at transport (traffic offenses proposal) or at Lands (name the playground owner in 24 hours!). In his quest to be an overachiever he might make a lot of enemies if he doesn't start playing nice...

B6K, if the old soldier still has any fire left in his long-service balls, then he should be the hero to tame Wild West Nairobi. Remember what he did in Pokot to pacify the area? See TJRC report.
2nd. He is a Masai, and Nairobi is a Masai concept, and, quoting Kimunya, Kenyan arrogance needs a harsh history lesson on land. No man can flash a title deed of Nairobi on a real Masai's face!
Fake! A real Masai would smile. I am not Amos Kimunya! You c, I got a genuine claim. Let's see what this old soldier is made of! Soap?

Wapi popcorn? If "the authorities" are to believed, the "grabbers" have engaged in forgeries and other criminal activities; they should have been arrested as soon as they were named. But nothing will happen to them, because they are actually not names behind a name; they are names in front of a name, and they could toboa. Ngilu knows that not even Uhuru wants the real Name of Names revealed. Re-read this: "By the way, if the President continues to push me, I will name and resign,” said Ngilu I doubt that she was referring to the Singhs. This could be a long one. Time to re-stock on the beer and popcorn.
