The gema community in a meeting dubbed Limuru II has endorsed Uhuru as the community's flag bearer in the forth coming elections.
Among other resolutions, the community will collect upto 2 million signatures to petition the ICC to drop the cases facing Uhuru and three others.
A very interesting develop as the race to state house moves into the second gear.
More to follow...

Mwalimu,
Congratulations to GEMA Cultural Association for passing a resolution which was instantly opposed by thousands of youth who accompanied former Mungiki Leader Maina Njenga to the venue, which led to the meeting being aborted when Njenga arrived with his supporters. Njenga was clearly the man of the moment and it was not until he and his supporters left an empty hall that the elders sitting at the high table started reading resolutions.
But the endorsing of Uhuru Kenyatta was expected. Any one could predict it.
That the meeting itself was financed by the Kenyatta family under the guise of GEMA unity while the intention was to declare their elitist intentions was there for all to see.
What is laughable, however, is the resolution that GEMA will collect 2 million signatures to petition the ICC to suspend the Kenya cases so as to ensure free and fair elections. This is as I'd predicted in the other thread. Uhuru wants to be president because he believes PORK offers a chance to be immune from ICC charges like it is apparent that Kibaki is presently enjoying. But to imagine that the ICC will suspend cases against the Ocampo 4 because Uhuru wants to be president is building castles in the air.
Uhuru's speech at the venue itself was tasteless. It was his usual target that we all know. Uhuru has already been told the only place he can launch a defence against the ICC cases is inside the dock at the Hague. Not in public rallies and not in political halls in Limuru.
This meeting was never about anything culturally unique to the GEMA communities. It was alll about politics and endorsing Uhuru as the sole bearer. The carefully selected elders have been well rewarded, and it is shameful they so no reason to invite other personalities from the GEMA communities who have also expressed an interest in running for the presidency.
Interestingly, neither Uhuru or any of the the speakers mentioned any future plans of how Uhuru intends to tackle widespread poverty, joblessness, chronic alcoholism and falling education standards in the GEMA regions.
Today, in Limuru, it was all about me, myself and I.

Bemba was very keen to run for president of his country even while his trial was going on. ICC's position: we have no objection, but you'll have to do it from your cell.

They said the Limuru meeting was called because of the gap that was created by the deaths of Michuki and Karume. So, who replaces these two? is it Uhuru?
In any case Karume had problems about installation as an elder last November that was boycotted by many Gemans then. Has that issue been sorted and it is now agreed he was a Gema elder installed correctly?

23/03/2012 10:41:591 GEMA CULTURAL ASSOCIATION Limuru II Declarations 23 March 2012 The GEMA Cultural Association, an organisation to the welfare of the communities it represents, convened a Strategic Leaders Forum on this 23rd day of March 2012 at the Jumuiya Conference Centre, Limuru to explore ways of ensuring the realization of the unity of our people, to deliberate on issues affecting the welfare of our people, and to enhance our harmonious co-existence with our brothers and sisters all over the country. UPON DELIBERATION THE FORUM NOW RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
1. THAT efforts be redoubled to ensure that all remaining Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s) are settled without any undue delay, and that this resettlement be concluded by end of June 2012, and reparations be accorded to these unfortunate victims of the Post- Election Violence;
2. RECOGNIZING that there is a real threat to peace and stability if Kenyans are not guaranteed free, fair and all-inclusive elections:
i) We unreservedly express our support for the decision by the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), as the only constitutionally mandated institution to set 4th March, 2013 as the date of the next general election;

v) In this regard, we petition the ICC to postpone the trial in the interest of having peaceful elections, to a period after the forthcoming General Elections.
vi) In support of this petition, GEMA commits itself to collect over 2 million signatures to support this appeal before the ICC and if necessary, to take this matter before the United Nations General Assembly for adjudication.

ii) to convene a national coalition of other like-minded leaders and political parties from all parts of our country to unite and work together in solidarity AND within the framework of the Political Parties Act, to PROTECT the interests of our community and to SAFEGUARD the future our nation.

4. GEMA express its GRATITUDE and APPRECIATION to H.E. the President of the Republic of Kenya Hon. Mwai Kibaki for his wisdom and leadership in steering this nation to unfathomable heights and specifically for the enormous progress that has been realised, the revitalisation of our economy, the realisation of a new constitutional dispensation, enviable growth of infrastructure and achieved regional peace security and stability.
i) In this regard, we particularly express SOLIDARITY all our Kenyan sons and daughters in our National Defence Forces currently engaged in safeguarding our borders and ensuring that we have peace and security in the region. 23/03/2012 10:41:594
5. GEMA salutes the entire community and all Kenyans of good-will, and express our gratitude and appreciation to the organisers and all delegated to this the Limuru II Leadership Forum. ### END ###

If you haven't attended a tribal/community meeting or oathing ceremony to endorse one of your own for the presidency shauri yako.
;D ;D Uhuru has been endorsed several times before by MEGA/ GEMA so will ruto be his running mate or is it eugene and what's the name of the party? What happens to the other members of 'tuko pamoja' were they also in this meeting?
The idea of petitioning the ICC this late in the game and for such selfish reasons (sounds more like a threat) is plain dumb.

I hoped such retrogresive movement would go with the demise of leaders like Karume.
I support cultural associations but only those that looks inward for self improvement and not outwards with schemes of having a stake in control of the state to skew its goodies in their direction.
GEMA needs to remove politics from its agenda or failing of which it should be banned. One of the few good things Moi did was to nip it at it's bud eons ago.
This smirks of 'mta do? - we have the numbers' politics which is only divisive and counter productive.
'Mombasa sio Kenya' is one such reaction.

Pretty much as expected from the usual suspects! Gema can propose anyone they want to be president but that does not translate it to people actually voting for him. Same thing has been done to many politicians by Luo Union or some Kalenjin outfit claiming they are elders endorsing politicians.
Why should this be an issue at all?

Why Kikuyu community must not be misled againBy Koigi Wamwere 23/03/2012 Today, for a second time, Kikuyu leaders of the right hue will congregate in Limuru to chart the way forward for the community. Last time these leaders met, it was to urge Kikuyus to vote for the new Constitution and all, believing leaders had read it for them. What will they meet to discuss this time? Many would want to believe, since most Kikuyu people are poor, their leaders will meet to discuss elimination of poverty among the Kikuyu and Kenyan people. Despite false belief that most Kikuyus are ahead of other communities, poor Kikuyus are victims of vicious colonial poverty that breeds jiggers, emasculates male youth with alcoholism, recruits gang members for Mungiki and sets women against men in a war of sexes. Because colonial loyalty was rewarded with land, education and work and Mau Mau rebellion punished with deprivation of same, Kikuyu poverty is a product of Kikuyu wealth which it is today recruited to defend. Kikuyu leaders would also be expected to discuss the problem of IDPs whose camps stretch from Kenya to Uganda as a national eye sore that Kenyan and Kikuyu elites should clean up before their coalition government expires. But will they? Limuru meeting should also condemn corruption by Kikuyu elites in Gema-affiliated firms, pyramid schemes and recent collapse of the shilling that impoverished millions of Kikuyus and other Kenyans but whose architect Kikuyu MPs defended in parliament. At the meeting, Kikuyu leaders must also take a strong position against negative ethnicity and money as the two factors that most negatively influence elections and give us bad leaders. On the other hand, negative ethnicity isolates Kikuyu community from other communities. It divides the nation during elections. Unfortunately, Limuru meeting is not called to address Wanjiku problems but ethnic unity and dearth of good, inspiring and nationalist leaders in the Kikuyu community. With the recent demise of John Michuki and Njenga Karume and ICC case hanging over Uhuru Kenyatta, the Kikuyu community feels leaderless while aristocrats urgently want to fill the vacuum of leadership with their own sons The crisis of leadership among the Kikuyu has two faces. One face is ethnic as kikuyu elites scramble for power and resources with other ethnic elites. Second face is class, as ageing Kikuyu aristocrats like Michuki, Kenyatta, Karume and Kibaki fight to enthrone their sons and daughters in a struggle between haves and have-nots in the community. Having been under the leadership of the rich for so long, this is the time Kikuyu people should make a paradigm shift in community leadership in order to include able but not rich men, youth and women as leaders. Why is it unthinkable that leaders from outside Kikuyu aristocracy like Martha Karua, Peter Kenneth or Paul Muite cannot give Kikuyu community and Kenya alternative leadership? Are some Kikuyus more equal than others? The Kikuyuwant to enthrone Uhuru Kenyatta as king of the Kikuyu and president of Kenya, not on account of what he has done for Kenya like his father, but merely because he is his father’s son. There is however an obstacle on Uhuru’s way to State House – ICC – which must be the real agenda of Limuru’s meeting. With ICC threatening to derail plans of Kikuyu haves to enthrone Uhuru Kenyatta, how shall the Limuru meeting deal with it? Resist ICC trial of Uhuru that everyone is advising against or look for alternative leadership that is not encumbered with ICC? If Uhuru is right now not eligible for presidency, shall the Limuru meeting advise the community to commit political suicide with an elections boycott or soberly look for an alternative leader? To protect and enthrone Uhuru, how will the Kikuyu elite defy ICC without endorsing crimes against humanity, risking security of Kenya and jeopardising settlement of IDPs? Among the Kikuyu, there is a sense of crisis but no sense of direction. While it is leaders who sacrifice for people, Kikuyu leaders want people to sacrifice for them. As a former detainee, I sympathize with anybody on trial. However, political prisoners should not make unreasonable demands on people like hiding them, fighting for them or leading them from jail. A Kiswahili proverb says: ukishikwa shikamana. Once in trouble with authorities, unless they want to assassinate you, it makes more sense to face your fate sooner rather than later, than flee from the law which is itself captivity. Ultimately, Kikuyu community is not just in a crisis but also at crossroads. Which way will it go – that of collaborators or freedom fighters? By excluding Kikuyu champions of second liberation from the Limuru meeting, self-serving elites want to take Kikuyu community away from the path of Mau Mau and freedom fighters. COLONIAL CHIEFS It wants to perpetuate leadership of colonial chiefs, home guards and loyalists through their sons and daughters. Finally, at the Limuru meeting, Kikuyu elites there gathered, must discuss how it shall embrace leadership from other communities who prove better for Kenya than their own. Like other communities, Kikuyu people have come along way. Before Europeans, they were Kikuyu nation. They became Kenyan under the heel of colonial rule. Today they are Kikuyu nation again. But they must move on and become Kenyan again. Then, like Kanu of independence, they will meet at Limuru, not to discuss ethnic interests but welfare of whole Kenya. But to imagine that the ICC will suspend cases against the Ocampo 4 because Uhuru wants to be president is building castles in the air. Phil, Everything you said in your post is right on but this says it all about the naivete of some our politicians and the people they mislead. It also says a lot about our people and how far we still have to go because, believe it or not, those people being so misled actually believe castles can be built in the air because Uhuru or Ruto says so. The difference between these people and those who, for example, would believe in what say, Obama or Raila says is the latter two would never tell their followers outlandishly false and impossible lies that one can build a castle in the air as the former do and even if they did, they will not be believed even by the staunchest among those followers and supporters. Call the phenomena a battle between tribalism and common sense and let's hope common sense prevails more and more.

lost in this excitement is the disturbing circumstances or coincidence if you wish, to which this event is being staged and the prop and key actor.
has it occurred to anyone here that the venue of this event and the backdrop are instructive for the essential house of mumbi and its cousins.
call me superstitious or primitive or country or whatever but i am convinced that not all is well in the essential house of mumbi and all that we have been treated to is a facade.
the recent successive loses, the burning mountain(wierd fire on mt.kenya) thats supposed to be the coolest/snow capped and more significantly agikuyu's sacred place, are abnormal.this, not mentioning the icc intricacy on uhuru kenyatta and how it now binds gema.
then as a fallen jukwaaist who introduced me to this forum would always remind us, there is something about limuru, the agiikuyu and gema prophecy by uhuru kenyatta's ancestor ,a reputed seer and medicine-man by name kingu wa magana.he proclaimed that the spear that will liberate the people will be unleashed from limuru. here as i gather, is where kanu was formed.
today we can idiomatically and metaphorically say that the scion of kenyata family has been is that spear that gema has unleashed from limuru to secure its royalty and loin(presidency and threat by hague's icc) the polish below helped kenyatta's dad author the great read that anyone who rubbishes what you have just read here ought to defer to.

Kamalet,Personally I find it important. Uhuru Kenyatta by my books is a weak pitch. In every facet of challenge. He has been minister long enough for me to reach the conclusion he is not the stuff I want in adminstration. He is incompetent. And he should only be president in the land of baboons. And yet, he is the Muthamaki, and now the choice of GEMA. How I differ with GEMA here! If this is the caliber of leader GEMA thinks can take care of the interests of the House of Mumbi in specific and beyond [related nations], I think GEMA itself has no idea of the problems these nations have to contend with in this juncture. [Just the standard, normal problems which every political elite is called upon to find answers to in their country to begin with] Secondly, UK is soon to be a fugitive. I put it to anybody in business in GEMA-land, that the business interests of GEMA people, which is the great locomotive pulling that culture anyway, cannot be defended, nor articulated, nor advanced by an international fugitive! They could only be dealt savage blows. Many businessmen from that community would know what sanctions mean, and what freezing of assets mean, and if your money is in Uhuru Kenyatta's banks, and you do not know how ' freezing' works, you may want to take a crash course in that phenomenom now! And if you are his business partner, you would by now have ' diversified'. Smart people do smart things with their money. I can therefore safely conclude the cultural organisation GEMA, does not represent for the gikuyu bourgeoisie, who I will regard as highly financially savvy, and know the score when the imperialist powers, who after all underwrite the Kenyan shilling, are after your a.s.s. 3. Gikuyu nationalism is a force yes, but Uhuru Kenyatta, a simple sponsor of thugs to rape Luos, --that is his chief decoration/achievement, is not the hero this nationalism will sacrifice herself for. Thinking gikuyu recognize that in the event of chaos in the Kibaki succession, --under Kibaki for the second time, the backlash from others will be huge, and the gikuyu diaspora all over Kenya would likely be hounded back to Mount Kenya. Gikuyuland would be a small hell on earth. Uhuru Kenyatta, try as he might, will not ruin Kenya in his last mad kick which I am sure he has in petto. But yes, he can ruin GEMA-land if he is not saved from himself. Like he slowy quit Finance, he must now [O where are the good shrinks!] slowly quit the presidential dream. ---A sacrifice for having, as he put it, 'done what he could to save his people'! Gema the cultural organisation, in sticking with UK, proves herself not the custodian of the future of those interests.

For one who will be cooling off in the Hague to attract such vitriol, it becomes easy to see why!
