www.capitalfm.co.ke/news/2012/04/thousands-gassed-out-of-limuru-2b-meet/Thousands gassed out of Limuru 2B meet Posted by BERNARD MOMANYI on April 18, 2012 Many of the youth sang and chanted anti-Kenyatta slogans and declared they don’t want GEMA. NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 18 – Police opened fire and lobbed teargas at thousands of youth who were marching to the Jumuia Conference Centre in Limuru for a meeting organised to counter another held there by GEMA leaders two weeks ago. The meeting dubbed Limuru 2B was organised to counter resolutions made by supporters of Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and his ICC co-accused William Ruto whose allies had converged in Eldoret also two weeks ago under the KAMATUSA tribal grouping. A group of youth led by veteran lawyer Paul Muite and activist Ngunjiri Wambugu—the meeting convener—who had marched to the venue were blocked by police and decided to leave peacefully. “You can see we are a peaceful group, the police have just decided to block this place because they don’t want us to hold our meeting,” Wambugu said and accused unnamed forces within the government who “are using the police to implement illegal orders.”Heavily armed police officers sealed off the venue and declared it a no-go zone. The group leaders then resolved to leave peacefully after addressing a press conference where they vowed to seek justice. “I will be filing a petition in court, it is not acceptable at all because the police do not have any legal mandate to block our meeting,” Muite said. He intends to sue Central Provincial Police chief John Mbijiwe, area divisional police chief and OCS as well as the area District Officer for what he terms “a violation of the Constitution.” “I will be suing them individually because I don’t want the taxpayers’ money to be used in paying the damages; they are the ones to pay the damages themselves,” he said. But as soon as Muite, Ngunjiri and musician Prezzo (Jackson Gechu Makini) left the venue, thousands of youth waving white handkerchiefs emerged from the Limuru highway chanting slogans of “we want peace” before they were confronted less than a kilometre from the venue of the cancelled meeting.Police used teargas and fired in the air several times to disperse the group which converged in a forest nearby where they engaged anti-riot police in running battles. Many of the youth sang and chanted anti-Kenyatta slogans and declared they don’t want GEMA. “We don’t want GEMA, because it is a tribal outfit,” some of the youth shouted.Dozens of them were arrested and bundled into waiting police trucks while others were clobbered. Several police officers were also wounded during the chaos that disrupted transport on the Limuru road for hours. “We have cancelled the meeting. We don’t know where they are going and that is why we have dispersed them,” Mbijiwe the Central PPO said. Police were puzzled how the thousands of youth outwitted the police who had mounted roadblocks on roads around Limuru to access the site. Some of the youth complained of police harassment and accused the police of intimidating them. “We have not committed any crime, why are we being hunted down like wild animals,” one of the youth protested. After close to two hours of running battles, the youth made peace with the police and agreed to disperse. They told police they were tired of running up and down. Earlier, organisers of the Limuru meeting had addressed a press conference at a hotel on the Naivasha highway where they castigated unnamed political leaders whom they accused of frustrating their peace efforts. The press conference was attended by among others Bishop Gitari, musician Prezzo, the late JM Kariuki’s daughter Rosemary among others. JM’s daughter said: “We were going to the meeting to talk about what we have gone through and effects of negative ethnicity in the country. My dad died not as a Kikuyu but as a nationalist. You can see our rights have been violated by being denied access to meeting.”Bishop Gitari condemned politicians fanning tribalism in the country and urged Kenyans to remain united.
“I was going to the meeting to preach peace I wanted to and urge Kenyans to support leaders based on their ideologies and not tribes. Recently, there was a group that held a meeting at same venue and they preached tribalism, now the police are stopping us yet we are going to preach peace.

Kathure,I din't see it. But that is scary stuff. Reminds you of the 2008 state violence. These people haven't learnt a damn thing, Ocampo and all. At this rate we are headed for the big one. Hopefully the country will survive but the rehearsals look pretty scary. You beat people like that they are going to fight back. And then what?

Aren't there some people here trying to tell us that Imanyara is unpopular even in Imenti North? Not so! It looks to me like the Central youth can't stand Uhuru. Ati we are all GEMA. Lakini wapi?

Adongo,
You must not condemn Uhuru as his mission is to FORCEFULLY unite all GEMA people. His is a noble cause that must not be derided by Mungiki folk. The GEMA community has wholly agreed to be herded by Uhuru. Shida yako ni nini? Going against Uhuru is synonymous to going against the tribe and must be met with violence and intimidation.
Political intolerance defines only Raila… in whose father's homestead the G7 is welcome. The way I see it, the next ODM NEC should be held at the Jomo Kenyatta mausoleum.

That is why I laugh when I see some call everybody who can't stand Uhuru's fascism as Mungiki. Since when did Bishop Gitari join the Mungiki. Since when did our friend Githuku standing there with kina Muite become Mungiki. These are Kenyans with a proud history of patriotism and who love their country and now some thugs want to herd them like cattle and when they say no then they are Mungiki. Nonsense. I see what happened today as the beginning of a trend that will reshape our politics not just in Central Province but in Nyanza, in Rift Valley and everywhere. It is tiem to tell the tribal kings that they do not own the country or its citizens

I'm of the opinion that if the "orders from above" had let this meeting take place; the story wouldn't have gained as much traction as it currently has. But no. They can't think outside the box. Same old same old. Brute force is the only language they know. Well, it's all going to backfire. By the way, what a great name the organizers of the conference gave it. "Tribe to Kenya" and 2B. So is it going to B or not to B Kenyans?TUESDAY, 17 APRIL 2012 23:50 BY NJENGA GICHEHA
The Tribe to Kenya conference scheduled to be held this morning at Limuru Jumuia Conference Centre will go ahead as planned in defiance of a last-minute cancellation by the local security committee.
The Limuru district security intelligence committee led by the District Commissioner Esther Maina said it had decided to cancel the meeting as it posed a "security threat" to the local residents and the country as a whole.
Maina declined to give details of the "security threat" posed by the conference organised by various groups to discuss what role opinion leaders from the greater Mt Kenya region can play to ensure the upcoming general election is peaceful. Participants will also discuss how the voters can move the socio-political agenda from ethnic to national interests.
Announcing the cancellation, Maina said, “When you come to security you do not give details. Right now we have very many threats in the country and you must have enough security to contain any threat and that is why we decided to cancel the meeting because of this issue amongst others.” She said the police had written to the convenors to inform them of the cancellation and told the participants to stay away "as the meeting will not go on.”
She appealed to the local residents not to attend the meeting as the administration and security agencies wanted to avoid running battles. "This is because we do not know what these people specifically came to do here in Limuru," Maina said even though she had received notification of the meeting last week and had not made any objections.
Maina was not able to explain why today's meeting had excited the concerns of the provincial administration and the security agencies yet they had not expressed similar reservations about the two recent meetings held at the same venue convened by the Gema Cultural Association and addressed by Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Maina Njenga among others.
Lari police boss Joshua Opiyo Ligala warned those who attend the meeting "will be doing so at their own risk." "Security will be very tight. The public must know that we shall deal firmly with those who do not adhere to the cancellation," Opiyo said.
The statement indefinitely cancelling the meeting was sent from a Yahoo address and said it had been done due to security reasons. The statement did not detail the nature of the security concerns or whether these concerns were directed at the participants and or speakers at the meeting.
Yesterday, one of the organisers, Ngunjiri Wambugu who is the executive director of Change Associates, said the meeting will go ahead as planned. He said he and the other organisers had not been able to authenticate the email message which was unsigned.
"We have not been able to authenticate as regards genuineness due to the fact that the email does not look like it's from the government. However we would like to inform you that under the new constitution there is no requirement for police authorisation for a meeting. Please note therefore that our letter was not seeking such authorisation, but was merely notifying your office to be present if they so wished. Please be informed him that the meeting will indeed proceed and it is for you, as the police, to provide security," Ngunjiri said in a statement he issued last night.
He accused the Lari police boss of allowing his office to be used for partisan political agenda. "Your conduct underscores the absolute need for a radical surgery in the police, with you as a candidate for censure," Ngunjiri said in the statement.
According to the programme, the meeting will start with a session where participants will be taken through two sets of photos — one set showing images taken during the 2007-08 post-election violence and the other set showing pictures of the Vision 2030 projects. Participants will be invited to decide which future they would prefer to see in Kenya.
Retired Anglican Archbishop David Gitari is scheduled to deliver the keynote speech before Mukami Kimathi's daughter, Evelyn Kimathi, Mau Mau freedom fighter Gitu Kahengeri and JM Kariuki's daughter Rosemary Kariuki-Machua make their presentations.
There will be contributions from opinion leaders representing various sectors — Dennis Bundi (a university student leader), Wambugu Gitonga (a lawyer representing professionals) and Maina Njenga (the ex-Mungiki leader and head of Amani Sasa Foundation).
The meeting will conclude after presentations by Hon Paul Muite, Hon Mithika Linturi, Hon Kilemi Mwiria, Hon Njeru Kathangu, Hon Maoko Maore, and other leaders.www.the-star.co.ke/national/national/71791-limuru

Wooooi! Fascism in Wanyokwa’s GEMA nation is shaping up right in front of our eyes.
“The Boss” has unleashed a radical authoritarian right-wing system, purely committed to forced GEMA unity. Even Gitobu Imanyara, a Meru from Imenti, has felt the brunt of this emerging totalitarianism. The youthful protestor in the video clip (above) has also received some real thrashing he will never forget in his lifetime. Other protestors must be similarly nursing broken limbs, inflamed lungs (from tear gas inhalation), and other police-afflicted injuries. Ngai fafa!!! or as Jakaswanga might say...Nyasaye wuora!!!
The police must be operating under a different Constitution - muthamaki’s version - which doesn’t allow the right to peacefully protest. I guess, Limuru is sacred ground for Uhuru Kenyatta – not to be desecrated by home-grown anti-Kenyatta protestors.
Under Muthamaki’s fascist vision, all Agikuyu, Ameru and Aembu (GEMA) must bow down and face Mount Kenya (atop where wanyokwa sits); in an exercise of mass mobilization through ‘tough discipline’ and indoctrination. All GEMA folks must ‘unite’ behind son of Jomo in a purified sense without opposition. No thinking for yourself, no room for thinking in fact!
We are witnessing another rehearsal of State violence to meet political ends. This is exactly what transpired in 2008 – when police and paramilitary outfits were used to enforce a civilian coup. The collective voice of the Kenyan voter was trashed and replaced by shoot-to-kill-orders which are currently being interrogated at the ICC. Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta was right at the center of that act (2007/2008) in as much as he is at the center of the today’s State violence. Does anyone still want evidence (of Uhuru’s involvement) from Ocampo? Does anyone wonder anymore why there HAS BEEN NO SERIOUS EFFORT TOWARDS POLICE REFORMS? Helloooooo!!!!!!
Adongo is so accurate to pin-point the prevailing situation. Everywhere in the world, fascists commonly utilize paramilitary organizations for violence against opponents (or to overthrow a political system). Fascists oppose (or silence) political competition as we are witnessing from both the Limuru and Imanyara debacles.
Folks thought Kenya had outgrown the Moi years of suppression....hellloooooo!!!!!!! Welcome to the world of ICC-besieged Uhuru Kenyatta – the supreme leader who must not be opposed by the likes of Martha Karua or Peter Kenneth. Under this indoctrination, we are hereby being informed at JUKWAA (by fresh adherents like bkichwa) that the likes of the nationalistic and brilliant legal mind (Gitobu Imanyara) are inconsequential nobody's.
Since violence begets violence, folks brace for more instability. Whoever misadvised the cops to suppress the Limuru meeting must be Uhuru Kenyatta’s worst enemy. Is this what life under the red-eyed, table-banging, Uhuru Kenyatta could be like? Woooooiiiii!!!!! God bless (save) Kenya! Pepo mbaya washindwe!!!! Open your eyes yee Kenyan voter! These incidences should be the catalysts that force a complete overhaul of our police force. It MUST be done. We cannot continue to have a police force operating under instructions from myopic politicians.

Threats, assassination plots and state violence; are these just spontaneous happenings by unrelated goons or mistaken orders from above?
Does this not fit precisely into the strategy of Uhuru to get the UN Security Council involved to declare the ICC case against him too dangerous and delayed for at least one year? Even as Adongo often tell us how stupid this outfit is do not presume they are without a well thought strategy.

GEMA A and GEMA B Ought to Off Politics the-star.co.ke/opinions/moses-kuria/71926-gema-a-and-gema-b-ought-to-off-politicsToday, a group of people from GEMA communities are gathering in Limuru for what has been dubbed Limuru 2B, a counter to the Limuru 2 GEMA meeting that took place on 23rd March, 2012 Whilst the organizers are going on a limb to show that what they will be discussing are fresh ideas on how to drive the community and the nation forward, I remain highly skeptical. I wonder why they were not gripped by these noble thoughts before Limuru 2 meeting. As such as this did not happen, Limuru 2B comes out as a reactionary, knee jerk move by those who were not at the centre of Limuru 2 planning. However sound the things they discuss today, they will find it difficult to wish away the tag of a carbon copy gathering, desperate to keep up with the Jones of ethnic supremacy A lot of people, me included, are opposed to converting GEMA into a vehicle for political leadership. The way to ensure that this does not happen is not to create a parallel GEMA B as an alternative political vehicle. As a Christian, I go to church to fulfill my spiritual needs. I believe in political parties as the only legitimate form of political expression and mobilization. Organisations like GEMA which I worked very hard to help in the formation should restrict themselves to cultural, social and economic empowerment of the peoples of Mt Kenya region. Luo Council of Elders, Luhya Council of elders, the Kaya elders, KAMATUSA et al should do likewise. These cultural, social and economic empowerment groups, working together, will form a very strong bedrock, the foundation of a strong and cohesive republic. Their bilateral bond should be in the form of embracing diversity and mutual understanding. Their multilateral bond is the new constitution which guarantees the rights of sundry and protects both the individual and the community, whether minority or majority. In as much as GEMA A of Limuru 1 and Limuru 2 and GEMA B of Limuru 2B are dabbling in politics, I remain opposed to both of them. Both GEMA’s have peculiar problems of perception and reality to deal with. GEMA B is perceived to be led by a group of people who remain stuck in the ideology of whining and jealousy. To them the guy next door is always to blame for all your predicaments, even those of your own making. They belong to the club that I refer to as “The Bitterness Society of Kenya”. The initials BSK should always be left to the Bible Society of Kenya. In terms of reality, GEMA B has within its ranks individuals whose past cannot wash, even with a combination of Ariel and Omo. GEMA A equally has problems of both reality and perception. In terms of perception, the old men and women at its helm are seen as people who would go to any depth to use the community for their own selfish ends. The perception, right or wrong, is that the community is them and they are the community, and beyond them, only the floods! In terms of reality, the GEMA A leadership has refused to open up the organization and the wider community to calls for generation change. As I have written in this column before, virtually every other community in this country has modernized its leadership except the GEMA community. Juxtaposed between the GEMA A of the octogenarians and GEMA B of the Bitterness Society of Kenya are men and women who are conscious of their republican obligations and proud of their GEMA heritage. They eke an honest living as farmers, traders, professionals, civil servants or business people. They give their all to educate their children. They suffer silently from the ethnic bile spewed by those who hate the community out of fear and prejudice, and misrepresentation of their own by both GEMA A and GEMA B. One issue that I however support from GEMA A is the need to stand up to that tool for Western hegemony that is the International Criminal Court. Recently German Ambassador Madam Margit Hellwig Boette followed in the footsteps of British Foreign Secretary William Hague by pleading with William Ruto and Uhuru Kenyatta to drop their presidential bids “for the sake of Kenya”. It reminded me of former International Monetary Fund Managing Director Dominic Strauss Kahn whose charges of sexual harassment were dropped the minute he signed off his resignation from the IMF. The French ambassador, Mr. Etienne de Poncins is on record accusing President Kibaki of being inaccessible, confirming one of the claims in the leaked British letters. The fixation by the West to use the ICC as a tool to achieving their strategic objectives in Kenya and prop up a puppet regime in Nairobi should be rejected by all. On this I find convergence with GEMA A. I would actually go further than this and call for total non-co-operation with the ICC and complete withdrawal from the Rome statute as approved by parliament. I however find their route to be unnecessary. Rather than collect two, three or ten million signatures, why not just wait for the General elections which will be with us latest in just over 300 days? The people of Kenya will decide whether the two gentlemen are fit for public office. Surely as Kenyans we might not know much but we can at least differentiate tomato ketchup from rat poison

Surely as Kenyans we might not know much but we can at least differentiate tomato ketchup from rat poison Hehehehehehe. Moses Kuria must take his readers (whoever they are) for complete idiots and may be they are. Limuru 2B was intended to be a gathering to rally the communities in the former Central and Eastern Provinces against tribalist formations like GEMA. It is a fraud to claim Limuru 2B is GEMA B. Limuru is a meeting place, GEMA is an organization with a long history of promoting tribalism and chauvinism in Kenya. Trying to mix the two is a semi clever method to confuse the issues. I am sure many Kenyans and those who organised and wanted to attend the event are smart enough to see through that trickery. Secondly the issue at hand now is police brutality and the rise of fascism promoted by Uhuru and his supporters where the new mantra is anybody in Central Province and allied areas must support Uhuru or else. Third the fact that state instruments were used to brutally attack peaceful people who simply wanted to hold a meeting is an abuse of our constitution and rights as a Kenyans. It is unacceptable and if Uhuru and his ardent supporters, even those in the GEMA organization should condemn such acts. Last but not least, Uhuru is acquiring a very dangerous image. He is already facing charges of mass murder and rape of thousands of Kenyans. The last thing Uhuru needs are these fascist activities carried out in his name. It is a very bad development for his fading political hopes. Those who support Uhuru and think they have to support him through thuggery in his name are killing him politically faster than Ocampo would ever do.

Adongo23456Look at one response from a Kenyan to Kuria's article. I'm loving my Kenyans !!!Kuria, just like the former Gadhafi spokesman Moussa Ibrahim, you will be caught up in the events while your little 'Kenyan Gadhafi' will be hiding in a culvert somewhere in Gatundu. I hope you will not be caught in some woman's clothes by those who attended Limuru 2B today! You can call them BSK or whatever you fancy but be sure that when your time for second circumcision arrives, those BSK will not care to 'sharpen the knife' and the pain will be as excrutiating as that suffered by the rest of the Kenyans who have suffered for far too long at the hands of your paymasters! The lords of impunity have for a long time trampled on the rights of fellow Kenyans that they think they are indispensable, and the tragedy is that their bootlickers like you Kuria cheer them on to continue raping our country and the future of its children. But today's happenning at Limuru should be a pointer to a changing political landscape especially in our neighbourhood. Those youths who braved police teargas are tired of the lies propagated by people like you and surely the number is rising. Bwana Kuria, if the lawyers for the Ocampo suspects, and being one of the best legal minds in the world, have not found any wisdom to advise their clients against cooperation with the ICC, whom do you think you are to shout from some nondescript third world country that cannot even feed its populace! Shame on you! Look for better topics that you probably have authority in, like how your fellow GEMA peasants can access affordable loans from one of the banks where you claim to have worked! But leave the matters of politics and legal issues to the brains that grasp them better! And yes I am one of those who attended the Limuru 2B today, and call me a BSK but be sure that Uhuru will not be a candidate come next general election. I pity the man coz everyday he and his handlers are digging the hole in which he finds himself, deeper and come 2013, he might watch the inauguration of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya while sneezing from the Hague spring pollen!

This is ust laughable!!!
When Limuru 1 was convened and resolutions passed it was deemed a dangerous gathering that was bound to divide Kenyans!
Then a Muite outfit comes out to do exactly what the first lot did and there is no hint of condemnation of him! The point even for the 'idiots' is easily made.
My view is that the meeting should have been allowed to proceed for there is nothing new the Muite lot would have told Kenyans and the gathering of rowdy youths would have just repeated what they would have been told to shout! I note that the entire saga was reduced to and "ant- Uhuru" crusade which again is wrong and goes against what the Muite lot had lied to Kenyans about. End of day, Muite has been given a platform of 10 minutes of fame which he did not deserve.
As Nowayhaha says in his piece, anyone unhappy with the gathering of old men in Limuru should have gone to that meeting and if they are unhappy with their support of Uhuru should have waited for the ballot to expressly say that.
But then is this not the utoto of Kenyan politics?

This is ust laughable!!! (...) Then a Muite outfit comes out to do exactly what the first lot did and there is no hint of condemnation of him! The point even for the 'idiots' is easily made. (...) Really? Wow! You actually believe that they were out to do EXACTLY what the first lot did? How comes they contradict one another? By the way, who are the 'idiots'?

statement by the PM, as landed in my inbox, and dated 19 April 2012
NOBODY MUST TURN BACK THE CLOCK ON THE PEOPLE OF KENYA Kenyans were yesterday treated to a spectacle that they thought had been banished from their lives with their new Constitution. The sight of police officers putting up roadblocks on a major thoroughfare and repeatedly firing rounds of tear gas at hundreds of perfectly peaceful people caused intense alarm of a kind we have not experienced for some years now. It has also raised their fears about what else might lie ahead which might curtail the exercise of their democratic rights as we head for the next election. Scenes of Archbishop Reverend David Gitari and former MP Hon Paul Muite, who fought gallantly for the freedom we have today, being tear gassed and shot at, will not be tolerated by Kenyans any more, nor images of unarmed youths being chased away like criminals from the scene of a licensed meeting. It is unacceptable that police can cancel a gathering on grounds that thugs planned to disrupt it. Police indicated to the organisers that a group led by a Member of Parliament had threatened to disrupt the meeting. But rather than arrest those who were threatening to cause a breach of the peace, and provide security for those meeting lawfully, the police chose to assist those who were sabotaging a lawful meeting! They chased the innocent through fields, constantly firing tear gas and bullets, and alarmed residents in neighbouring compounds and disrupted their daily lives. The police did not maintain law and order as they are required to do. I have directed the Minister of Internal Security to take immediate action against all police officers who attacked rather than protect innocent Kenyans exercising their fundamental right to assembly. I have also directed the Minister to have immediate investigations carried out on the unconscionable threats to the life and family of Hon. Gitobu Imanyara. While all Kenyans have the right to hold meetings, it is important to point out that this one was organized by some of Kenya's most respected luminaries known for their commitment to democracy, national harmony and peace. They had notified police last week of their event. Such police tactics are a recipe for disaster. They also besmirch the integrity of the government's commitment to uphold the law. They take us decades back and raise alarm to the fact that despite giving ourselves a new constitution, we are not out of the woods yet. The forces of status quo are still lurking and are ready to take Kenya back at the slightest opportunity. In addition to violating constitutional mandates, it is important to keep in mind that organizers of such lawful meetings incur substantial expenditures, such as paying for the conference venue, its logistics, travel for the delegates and programming the availability of speakers. All these arrangements cannot be undone at the last minute. The action yesterday sent very wrong signals about the commitment of our security agencies to a free and fair democratic process. We remain committed to upholding all the democratic rights the people of Kenya so painfully won and entrenched in the Constitution. Those rights include the right by the people of Kenya to make independent political choices without intimidation or blackmail.

If you really wanted to know why they were meeting in Limuru you can find the information right here in jukwaa. I can quote for you... "the organizers are going on a limb to show that what they will be discussing are fresh ideas on how to drive the community and the nation forward.."Now if you are looking for the 'idiots' I refer to see this from a jukwaa writer..."Moses Kuria must take his readers (whoever they are) for complete idiots and may be they are"

Trivializing either the police brutality itself, or condemnations of the same may be vogue for you; but others aren't laughing! These are the very suppressive scenes Kenyans thought they had progressed away from. You might want to wallow in comfort thinking this is the norm, but it simply ain't. Not in the Kenya of 2012 under a new Constitution. Yup! Kenyans are smart enough to realize that revival of tribal groupings that balkanize the country are in fact dangerous and inimical to the existence of a unitary nation. Inviting three select communities (GEMA) or four hand-picked communities (KAMATUSA) to plot how to grab power from the rest of the nation is not only primitive but also perilous towards the coexistence of all communities of Kenya. So you are right - the first GEMA gathering at Limuru, and its parallel KAMATUSA one in Eldoret were both dangerous plots aimed at dividing Kenyans based on TRIBE. Vvvvveeeerrrrryyy Retrogressive! A pig with lipstick remains a pig! You're absolutely wrong. The latter meeting was meant to do the exact opposite (not the same thing); which was to rally for nationalism - whereby all tribes of Kenya can coexist irrespective of differences in political preferences. It was a meeting to champion for tolerance - where even Muite, Archbishop Gitari, Linturi, and others can freely express their democratic rights without being coerced to support a particular candidate. As you talk of 'idiots', do you realize that the real idiot is the one who can't make a difference between the objectives of these two distinct meetings? At least you realize it was wrong for police to brutally stop the meeting. Your condenscending label of the planned participants (of the disbanded meeting) as "rowdy youth" smarks classic fascist language. What makes these youth any different from those who attended the first meeting? Were there not Mungiki at the first meeting (those who were denied a chance to speak)? When you start viewing young people (including Mungiki) bused into Uhuru Kenyatta's meetings and rallies as YOUTH while those eager to express views different from Uhuru as ROWDY YOUTH, it exposes lack of objectivity and neutrality. These youth are not simply idiots told what to shout. Wacha matharau! They actually have solid brains that can express their free right of speech and expression as guaranteed by the Bill of Rights in the new Constitution. If what they say doesn't bother/concern you, then just ignore it. You may be surprised what opinion they hold of you. Are you saying it is WRONG for Kikuyu youth to be anti-Uhuru? Is it wrong to freely express ones democratic right anywhere you wish? Must political preference be tailored towards perceived tribal (or zonal) straight-jackets? What these youth did is very much in line with what the meeting organizers alluded - rejection of tribalism and tribalists. They were coming to reject Uhuru Kenyatta's political ideology built around GEMA. Shouldn't this hold true for Uhuru and the Wazee who sent the cops to beat up these youth yesterday? Why didn't Uhuru and his ilk just wait for the ballot; instead of using the bullet? The utoto is exhibited in the biased lenses that many folks wear. Nyani kweli haoni kundule!

I am quite pleased to see that many, many members of the Kikuyu, Embu and Meru community are rejecting attempts to tribalize them and herd them into a narrow tribal agenda. I support and join my brothers and sisters from Embu, Meru, Tharaka, Thika, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Muranga, Nyeri, Nayuki, Nyahururu, Nyandarua and others place who want nationalist, issue based politics that are by, for, about and with Kenya.
I reject the selfish, divisive tribalism of Uhuru kenyatta and William Ruto through GEMA and KAMATUSA.
Just a few days after Kibaki unveiled President Uhuru Kenyatta, we have witnessed the crime, tribalism, impunity and generalised confusion that he represents. We will reject.

This is a test of the new constitution - whether you like, hate or have no opinion of any of the politics involved. The law should not take sides.
I did not anticipate seeing policemen whacking folks in public for attending a gathering, just like they did a decade before the new constitution. The question now is, will Kenyans defend the constitution, or do we have a rag on the shelf and we behave as we may wish?

As Nowayhaha says in his piece, anyone unhappy with the gathering of old men in Limuru should have gone to that meeting and if they are unhappy with their support of Uhuru should have waited for the ballot to expressly say that. But then is this not the utoto of Kenyan politics? Kamalet my brother, President Uhuru has shot himself in the foot once again! In having the police prevent Limuru 2B at full force, captured by the media abusing Kenyans in the old style, he has precipitated a general atmosphere of suspicion, and now even amongst his supporters. Imagine what is going on behind the scenes on the financial front. With the pupper Githae at finance, and his other crony at the KRA and other financial levers, anybody who comes from GEMA and needs the state for his financial solvency must surely face a coercion the financial equivalent of the beating that young man faced at the hands of those state thugs called riot police. You know without a doubt, President Uhuru's political practice in the few months he has ascended matches the norm 'fascist'! as a scientific term. A study of the Kenyan media related to the new president, will corroborate Adongo's thesis. hedge your bets Kamalet, the new president is out of his depths running the new Kenya.
