Titchaz It is not rumours. Police are trying to hide the information but it appears a cabinet minister and an assistant minister were passengers in that helicopter. Check twitter.

What a shocking coincidence
Kones and Laboso were also killed in a plane crash on 10th June.......same date as Saitoti and Ojode.
PM Raila Odinga shocked and dismayed by the tragic deaths of Minister Saitoti, Asst. Orwa Ojode and 5 others, reportedly heading to scene of accident. Bodies are burnt beyond recognition.

President Kibaki expected to officially announce the deaths of members of cabinet this morning.
PM and ODM reloaded team discussing if to cancel majr rally planned for Afraha Stadium later today.
Saitoti and Ojode were headed to Homa Bay County for a funds drive before the ill-fated crash - a chopper ride that a shaken Police Commissioner Iteere missed by a whisker..
Crash scene sealed off!

phil,
it would be prudent that the politicians suspend their hustings. the cabinet should hold an emergency session and agwambo and kibaki make appointments for this sensitive and important dockets.

i will miss ojode serikal for his humour and sense of duty. very popular with his parliamentary colleagues across the political divide, ojode was also the chairman( i stand to be corrected) of bunge sacco.
here is my favourite clip of him.

My condolence goes to the family. I agree with Narea. The empty security posts must be filled up ASAP. It's even more important than anything else now that Kenya is in war with Somali and some petty amateur Terrorists bombing the country.

Very sad.
Condolences to the families and friends of all the dead.
One thing that comes to my mind is that we've lost very many government officials to chopper and plane crashes over a very short time, yet it is supposed to be one of the safest - if not the safest- means of transport!
Something must be very very wrong somewhere!

A real tragedy. Condolences are in order first before we start questioning why a minister and his deputy should ever be on the same flight, aviation safety in Kenya etc etc.

phil, it would be prudent that the politicians suspend their hustings. the cabinet should hold an emergency session and agwambo and kibaki make appointments for this sensitive and important dockets. The PM and the ODM reloaded has cancelled the Nakuru rally. I think it is despicable and idiotic for anyone to be suggesting that "it should have been Raila and Njenga on that ill-fated flight" !

It comes with death. You want to know what killed someone. If you burry your head in the sand you might be leaving room for more unnecessary deaths. Those dead are not going to come back. But those alive can be saved by finding out why an Helicopter which is supposed to be new dropped from the sky after an alleged Explosion

Eurocopter, formed in 1992, was a merger of helicopter divisions of Aerospatiale-matra (France) and DaimlerChrysler Aerospace (Germany). The mamanufacturers of the chopper that killed Kenya's Internal Security Minister and his assistance are one of the world's best

You could have an apache but it would still fail if not properly maintained. OBS! Explosions were heard on board the chopper, if it was not the fuel tank then what was it. Sadly we will never get to know the root cause of the crash with akina Iteere in the mix. Road accidents kill much more people everyday. I think that safety standards have to be improved overboard.

I have really strange feelings about this chopper accident. This chopper was acquired I think this year and is reasonably new...so just wtf happened that it just falls off the sky 8 minutes after leaving Wilson?

Kamale, Im wondering too. Even stranger is that two loud bangs were heard in the chopper before it filled with smoke and came tumbling down. I don't want to speculate but could it be an act of sabotage? As I said before, we wont know the truth for this is Kenya where nothing serious as this is ever unearthed.
But who would like to kill Saitoti or Ojode? Ojode had no other ambition than to get rich while Saitoti was fighting it out with other presidential candidates in central province and country as a whole. He had no known political alliances and had refused to attend any of the hate rallies organized by the G7.
All the same, their deaths is a great loss to their families and constituents.
