BACK-UPDATE: OIL BLUES TURKANA.
MPs –that should officially be Mpigs but today I offer relief—
Nicolas Ngikor, Turkana East;
James Lomenen, Turkana South; were recently [October 2013] reigned in a Lodwar courtroom, charged with
inciting demos and orchestrating chaos. The sheet just fell short of economic sabotage!
The caption of their mass mobilization campaign went: OIL EXPLORATION CAN WAIT UNTIL THE LOCAL PEOPLE ACQUIRE THE SKILLS NEEDED TO EXECUTE THE TOP END OF THE LABOUR DEMAND IN THE OIL BUSINESS.
They also want VALID DOCUMENTS which certify that the
70% share CLAUSE ---that is oil ownership, is in effect now.
-----Remember the
Turkana oil-blocks were sold and resold by brokers in Nairobi without any Turkana being involved. That is probably how one of the CORD principals made his money. Swindling sleeping and ignorant Turkanas of their natural booty! [but do I say!] And governor
Alex Tolgos is with the trouble making Mps.
Meanwhile KERIO VALLEY Lawmakers too, have jumped into the fray which forced TULLOW to suspend operations. Marakwet East Mp,
Kangogo Bower; Elgeyo Marakwet senator
Kipchumba Murkomen, and women’s rep
Susan Chebet, want a chapter called SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT FROM OIL KITTIES.
---The oil firm Tullow should negotiate with people,
not governors! [that is how Tolgos smelled the coffee
]
---The state, county and oil company should set up TRUST FUNDS. [Some for education of local talents, some for future savings like in Norway]
---Tenders, casual jobs, projects must have a LOCAL MONOPOLY of sourcing [the said
70%] or TURKANA WILL BE NO GO ZONE FOR TULLOW. The oil will not rot and can be ‘dug’ in 50 years when the locals are 100% ready to fill every post. It is called independence!
--protocol on oil spillage and clean ups [remember dutch shell and the total environmental degradation of the
Nigerian Delta. Turkanas do not want to wake up as
Ogonis in the Naija delta!
But: the Kenyan state sent paratroopers [wESTGATE veterans I suppose
!] to ‘restore peace and order and commercial drilling of oil’. And the peoples representatives were arrested and hauled to court. The seeds are being planted for some serious conflict.
Watch this story, Jukwaa. WE have plans with that oil. In fact we already have loans leveraged against that oil! Will it be genocide then, if the Turkos insist it is their oil to control, both pace to drill and when to sell?
