KENYA: Kenya’s economy is expected to maintain a growth trajectory, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has said. Despite warnings from Western governments that the election of Uhuru Kenyatta and his running mate William Ruto would have dire but unspecified consequences, the IMF said the economy will not “suffer massively” because it is domestic-driven. However, the March 4 elections pose a risk to the economy and growth would only be maintained if Kenya conducts smooth, orderly, and peaceful elections. Head of an International Monetary Fund mission who has been in the country for ten days, Domenico Fanizza, said on Thursday Kenya’s economy is now less dependent on Europe and would not be affected much by actions of Western governments that might include economic sanctions. “Growth is driven by the emergence of the middle class and investments in areas like ICT and infrastructure. I don’t see a direct impact on economic growth,” he said. He added that Kenya’s economy has continued to expand despite the global economic crisis that has ravaged Western economies and the fact exports to Europe have stagnated and the number of tourists are not increasing fast enough. The European Union and the United States have warned of “consequences” if Uhuru is elected president in the March 4 General Election. Uhuru and Ruto face crimes against humanity charges at the International Criminal Court. The cases come up for trials in April. www.standardmedia.co.ke/?articleID=2000077328&story_title=Kenya-IMF:-Uhuru-win-no-threat-to-economy

During 2008, a World Bank official was recalled from Kenya after misleading his bosses in Washington about events in Kenya. It turned out he was palling with Kibaki and his people and even rented his home from Kibaki. It's impossible to live through sanctions and our economy remains unaffected. Very straight forward proposition a Standard 5 child would understand I wonder if this man has not been motivated by other reasons to make such a moronic statement. The statement defies common sense, plain and simple.

We are only hearing this from Cord/ODM leaders and propaganda mouthpieces . See below what EU had to say No sanctions threat against Kenya – EU www.capitalfm.co.ke/news/2013/02/no-sanctions-threat-against-kenya-eu/NAIROBI, Kenya Feb 11 – The European Union has denied issuing threats of sanctions against Kenya should Jubilee presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta and his running mate William Ruto ascend to power. EU Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation to Kenya Lodewjik Briet says they only expressed their stand on their relationship with persons facing trial at the ICC. “We are hoping for violence free elections and we have restated our support for the ICC process and to the government of Kenya to deliver a free, fair and democratic elections,” Briet said. Speaking after holding a closed door meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Ongeri, Briet dismissed claims that the EU had threatened unspecified sanctions on Kenya should the two be elected in March. “The word sanctions has never been used by us. Why would there be sanctions?” he asked. The meeting between Ongeri and the EU diplomats failed to reach an agreement on the demand that an apology be made and that further threats be stopped forthwith. “What we did say to the Minister (of Foreign Affairs) is that we are very keen to see across Kenya that there is no violence. Violence doesn’t produce a conducive investment climate,” added Briet.

However, in the unlikely event the two are elected and abscond or otherwise stop cooperating with the ICC, Kenya will become a pariah state and face concomitant sanctions for sure with devastating effect. No one doubts this is what the duo intend to do; it's the only reason they are defying common sense and other calls not to run.

Even Kalonzo revealed that they (Uhuruto) made him aware their lawyers advised them that they must run. That's why they couldn't even offer him the deputy president's position.

Even Kalonzo revealed that they (Uhuruto) made him aware their lawyers advised them that they must run. That's why they couldn't even offer him the deputy president's position. Case in point Why are the allegations that Once UhuRuto are elected to the position of President and Deputy President respectively they will cease co-operating with ICC being peddled by ODM/CORD political leaders , propagandists and supporters ? Isnt this telling as UhuRuto have personally declared that they will continue co-operating with ICC just a day ago we saw them participating in an ICC status conference arent this indications that they fully co-operating with ICC. Another pointer is having invested all that money in their attorney dont you think that it would be unwise to to cease co-operation with ICC bearing in mind the direction the cases have taken -theirs is just to clear their name thats all we all know Ocampo did a shody job in gathering evidence what else could be the reason of tring to bring in new witnesses and new evidence . As for the calls for them to step down till they are cleared here is court ruled this past Friday Further, the court ruled that it would be prejudicial to the rights of Mr Kenyatta's The National Alliance (TNA) and voters to bar him from contesting the presidency.
"We cannot exercise the rights of citizens to choose leaders of their choice," the judges said.
The court said that while Mr Kenyatta and Mr Ruto were facing crimes against humanity charges at the International Criminal Court (ICC), they had not been convicted of any crimes.
"The presumption of innocence serves not only to protect the rights of the accused but to maintain public confidence in courts," the court saidelections.nation.co.ke/news/Court-dismisses-Uhuru-and-Ruto-case-/-/1631868/1695020/-/s83nwxz/-/index.htmlAnd from Citizen The High Court noted that the Kenyans facing cases at the International Criminal Court (ICC) had not been convicted of any crimes saying they were presumed innocent until proven guilty. The High Court further stated that the presumption of innocence serves not only to protect the rights of the accused but also maintain public confidence in the courts, adding that there was no evidence before the court that there would be convictions following the ICC case. The High Court said that Uhuru and Ruto have a right to seek office.'Our decision is not influenced by utterances by politicians, media or international bodies or foreign countries,' said the High Court. citizennews.co.ke/news/2012/local/item/7977-uhuru-ruto-cleared-to-run-for-office
