elections.nation.co.ke/news/-/1631868/1711856/-/osimcfz/-/index.htmlGitobu Imanyara has conceded defeat to his opponent in the Meru Senate race and said he is mulling retiring from active politics. Mr Imanyara of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) wished Kiraitu Murungi (Alliance Party of Kenya) well in victory. "I wish to congratulate the Meru County Senator elect Hon Kiraitu Murungi and wish him and all others elected, my best wishes," he said. I have now come to the decision that retirement from active politics is the best option. I shall make a further statement later after consultation with the wider family, supporters and well wishers," said the former Imenti Central MP. "May peace prevail in our beautiful country."

The real pity is that this gentleman and doyen of reforms joins many others who have lost seats on the grounds of ethnicity and petty politics.

Imanyara has always been a gentleman with principles. Pity to see him go as he could still have been able to serve KE in the years to come... The real pity is that this gentleman and doyen of reforms joins many others who have lost seats on the grounds of ethnicity and petty politics. What do you mean? What ethnicity is he, and what ethnicity is the electorate that voted him out, or that voted the other guy in??

What ethnicity is he, and what ethnicity is the electorate that voted him out, or that voted the other guy in?? My point is simple. Imanyara is an example of nationalist leaders along with Tuju and others who have been defeated because of toeing the line of the local political elite. There is a reason why one hears the refrain that such leaders should contest for urban seats.

I don't know what happened to the Imanyara you are mourning, but he's been absent a long time.

I don't know what happened to the Imanyara you are mourning, but he's been absent a long time. Au contraire. Imanyara has remained a voice of reason and moderation. A few years back he came up with a bill seeking to have trials for war crimes in Kenya. He has also been one of the promiment members of parliament that sought to get to the bottom of drug smuggling. Face it for people like you all the good he did matters little because he endorsed 'Raira' nothing else matters.

Not once did I think about Raila in this discussion ... and by the way, it makes no sense to me that you spell Raila's name with an r in place of L. Obviously its your betrayal of the stereotype you are debating with, posing as though to debate with me. On the first matter, I do not see what is so progressive about attempting to bring ICC cases back to Kenya. Granted, the drug smuggling thing endeavour ... yeah, that's one thing on his recent resume.

Imanyara and muite and RAO and the likes come a long way, tuju to me is a johnny-come-late who does not know what the fight for true democracy is
