Jukwaists -Claims are being made that CORD refused to provide electronically the results real-time from the areas they enjoyed support.This inertia has led to the stagnant provisional results. Can someone confirm this.

IEBC held a press conference and what came out is that returning officers have been recalled back to Nairobi with physical results. Thus IEBC will proceed with announcing the results as from tomorrow.See below

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has said it will start announcing official election results from Wednesday after its electronic transmitters experienced delays.

IEBC has been releasing provisional results that were being transmitted from polling stations using the electronic transmission system. The system has however developed serious delays.

IEBC Chairman Isaack Hassan explained that the delays in their transmitters had prompted the commission to decide to start releasing official results being submitted by Returning Officers.

The Returning Officers are currently on their way back to the national tallying centre in Nairobi from their respective postings in the 290 constituencies.

"There is a growing concern at the slow pace that results are being relayed. This has given rise to speculation and rumours that our servers have crashed.. We are working to sort out the delay," said IEBC chairman Isaack Hassan.

"The Returning Officers will start bringing the official results any time now. We will announce the official results beginning tomorrow. Each commissioner will read out results for each of the region that they supervise," he said.

At a press conference at the Bomas of Kenya, Mr Hassan also appealed to presidential candidates to remain calm.

"The commission is working in consultation with agents and ICT experts from respective presidential candidates so that we can share the challenges that we are having," he said.

"I appeal to candidates to maintain calm and allow the commission to announce the results that will be brought by Returning Officers," he added.

In a press conference, IEBC chair Isaack Hassan said there were delays in transmission of results from polling centres by returning ofiicers.

He added that they will resort to manual tallying due to the challenges they were experiencing.

Tuesday, the 5th of March 2013 - The Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Issack Hassan has moved quickly to allay fears after the commission’s provisional results system appeared to be stuck for several hours even as Kenyans eagerly await news of how the various candidates are performing especially in the Presidential race.

In a media briefing at the Bomas tallying centre a few minutes ago, Hassan admitted the delays but said that the commission would be releasing official results from tomorrow once the various returning arrive in Nairobi;

“These provisional results were meant to show the country where the results were being declared from. We had aimed for a near 100 percent perfection but we have experienced challenges in the last day,” he said.

“The good thing is that Returning Officers will be coming to present the official results for presidential elections, which shall be read here,” he added.

Hassan also revealed that each of the IEBC commissioners would, starting tomorrow, be reading the official results of the various polling stations and regions under their supervision.

The IEBC Chairman also dismissed reports that have been doing the rounds on the internet that the IEBC has lost data after its main server crashed earlier today and had no way to retrieve it.

“The commission is aware of these delays and that they are giving rise to different speculations and rumours that the server of the commission has crashed and I want to assure you that this is not true,” he asserted.

The provisional results so far give the Jubilee alliance flag bearer Uhuru Kenyatta the lead with 53% of the votes counted so far while CORD’s Raila Odinga comes a close second with 42%.

The DELAY in Presidential RESULTS SAGA continues as SAFARICOM denies any role

Wednesday, the 6th of March 2013 - Mobile service provider Safaricom has released a statement denying that it has had any part in delaying the transmission of results from various tallying centers to IEBC’s central tallying center at Bomas.

The statement signed by Safaricom Chief Executive Bob Collymore clarifies that the mobile service provider’s only role in the process was to allow the IEBC to use its “virtual private network (VPN) for the conveyance of the results from polling stations across the country previously identified as having sufficient mobile coverage to the IEBC’s constituency, county and national tallying center infrastructure.”

The statement from Safaricom denies that the network had any role in designing the system that the IEBC used for relaying or presenting election results;

“Safaricom did not and does not have any role in the technical design, management or specification of the servers, the mobile software application nor the graphic presentation of the results data used by the IEBC.”

“As a responsible corporate citizen, Safaricom appreciates and takes seriously its assigned responsibilities and will continue to play its part to support the IEBC in its duties,” concludes the statement.

Safaricom’s clarification comes just a day after IEBC Chairman Issack Hassan admitted that the system for relaying results from tallying centers ‘had not worked at 100%.”

The IEBC is now awaiting the arrival of the various returning offices from across the country to come up with a complete tally of the results

Nairobi, Kenya: Helicopters were dispatched by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to airlift Returning Officers in far flung areas in the country to Nairobi.

Issack Hassan, the IEBC chairman announced that the light aircrafts and helicopters were deployed in the morning in order to hasten the process of tallying and releasing of the votes.
