The Pan-African Baraza organized its first public event in Nairobi on Thursday 8 January 2015 to mark the 90th anniversary of the birth of Frantz Fanon. Held on the rooftop of the offices of PAWA 254 in Nairobi, Kenya, some 200 people attended a lecture by
Professor Lewis Gordon, Nelson Mandela Visiting Professor at Rhodes University, South Africa, and Professor of Philosophy and African American Studies, with affiliation in Judaic Studies, at the University of Connecticut, USA. Lewis Gordon is author of many books, and is author of forthcoming title: What Fanon Said: A Philosophical Introduction to His Life and Thought.
In what was described by many as 'outstanding', 'inspiring' and 'breathtaking', Lewis Gordon spoke about the relevance of Fanon's ideas to the Pan-Africanism today. His talk focused on a wide range of topics including race, racism, humanity, the black struggle, the struggle for emancipation, black feminism.
