JOURNALIST MENYA, THE DNATION AND THE DEEP STATE
It wasn't exactly the fundraising of the century. The century is still much too young, and Kenya's mega elections are yet to come. But at two billion in 60 minutes is still a fine rate.
For those of us who, as a treat, have done chips funga with soda ya nyanya downtown at Accra, just a few paces off Tom Mboya as you walk from Ronald Ngala, a platefull helping at 10M, as was going at the Uhuru tena Jubilee diner, is a sum beyond many personal worth --including house, car and retirement savings. And for many more worthy citizens, 10M cash is beyond the family fortune gathered over several generations, honest sweating.
This imbalance of course sets the stage for resentment which, openly aired or not, interrogates what exactly it is, these plums do for their profit rates. The poor are lazy aside as explanation, in Africa where the concept KLEPTOCRAT is much bandied around, the above interrogation more often than not leads to an explication (of graft craftiness). Such a diner party therefore, was a donish gathering of power brokerage. This, is to make sure the vested interests keep their claws firmly wrapped around state power. If the state were to slip out of their hands, who knows what REDISTRIBUTIVE fantasies could be enacted by others of a different make?
The DailyNation ---watching that income from state adverts---- is already minimalist enough in its critique, and Menya like many of his fellow journalists is pretty tame, and in that fashion they offer neither context nor analysis, which is the college training I think. The mistaken old school training at objectivity so called, which has opened the golden age of blogs and social media punditry!
Menya stumbled on an open wound, a smoking gun too, but he knew it not nor recognised its import. His report revealed the intertwine between the current cream of the mandarinate, the Jubilee apparatus, and the big money mafia whose embed it is. IMPARTIALITY as a creed of civil service!? Non, not even a semblance of a pretence at.
Looking at the report, these prime movers of power recognised their nakedness in public, since in private they know just how deep into rot they really are. The problem is public exposure to such an extent where, outrage expressed and the opposition ignited, it becomes impossible to sustain their customary impunity! Menya's story, actually already buried by the DN editors at page 12 on Sunday, still unsettled them to such an extent that in panic, they or their sycophants moved to teach him a lesson. That is state intimidation. In Kenya, definitely an atavistic tic. (Same as the Michuki-orchestrated raid on the Standard. It was famously titled get bitten if you rattle a snake in itsl lair!)
These powerful men have revealed their rotten outdatedness ---that is a kind of organisational inferiority, by, in their vengeful tantrum against a mild reporter, putting the DPP Kerioko Tobiko in a stupid position of not being able to formulate a sensible charge. So he started to sound like Bernard Chunga, Amos Wako's bedmate of old. --Trumped-up charges!

Or was it to kill a damaging story?
Police recorded ''DEMANDING PROPERTY WITH MENACE' or was it soliciting a bribe?
-State Lawyer Daniel Karuri on behalf of DPP Tobiko told SP Magistrate Martha Mutuku they were not preferring a charge! He and Tobiko had been set up!
The real story is of course the state under Jubilee as a TRINITY. There is no separation of authorities -A section of the oligarchy has privatised the state via one of their own at the helm, and ownership of the top bureaucrats. These are not civil servants but Oligarch handmaids.
Not that this is new, nay, it is just that it is revealed beyond denial, beyond plausible denial.
It is a pants-down situation, and even smooth operators get disoriented in such a situation. Gotta kick Walter Menya some!
