The Poet Lutumba Ndomanueno Simaro Massiya is dead. At 81. (19 March 1938 - 30 March 2019). A recognised genius of the Congo, he was in his lifetime already declared a national monument. The vast, world-wide community of the Rhumba-Soukous enthusiasts has been plunged into celebrating this blessing, for his life has been that profound to millions of souls, aka fans.
TPOK jazz identity rhythm guitarist, master composer of countless classics, legendary lyricist, talent promoter and long-standing band leader, his career is a soundtrack of the popular African music scene of the last 7 decades. At his peak he stood next to Grand Maitre Luambo ---Franco-- Makiado and star solo guitarist Mavatiku Visi Michelino, stoically romping away in some of TPOK's most genial compositions.
Yes, he died at a ripe old age in a Paris hospital. Few mortals do manage the self-actualisation Simaro achieved for himself through his work.
