I am aware of that. Let me ask my question in a simpler way thus: How should Obama proceed in order to win over parts of previous Republican voters, and larger parts of the Hispanic electorate? And what must he avoid, in order not to provoke (white and Latino) non-voters into becoming active and voting *against* him? Chris

im not from western kenya. but i cant help but notice the following: dedan kimathi was fighting for kikuyu land. period! and he sought VIOLENCE as a means. mboya, muliro, jaramogi, seroney, oneko, pinto, etc were fighting for a unity nation called KENYA via constitutional means. kenyatta was a late comer who joined the party and managed to ascend the to the top. transformational leadership never comes via policy-oriented and practised over 10 years VIOLENCE like Dedan planned with Mau Mau. get it??? mimimzalendo, Wewe wacha! Transformational leaders can come from anywhere my friend. You simply cannot be serious that Kimathi was not a transformational leader. He is in a league of not-too-many inspirational African leaders of the last century (count who were during his time). Obama is in another league of transformational American leaders of this century. Kimathi was an African who had a vision to reclaim ancestral land from foreign occupiers, developed a strategy to achieve that goal, and inspired followers ( & of course forced others) into this initiative (with its attendant dangers) and transformed the colonial order. It was not 'business as usual' when Kimathi's vision took effect. That's all about transformational leadership. I don't think the circumstances then, would have allowed anyone not a transformational leader to set a vision, mobilize tens of thousands, strategize, execute and sustain for 10 years, a military style operation against the British.....starting with untrained, crudely armed natives.....let's be serious......must all leaders be politicians? must all transformational leaders pursue peaceful change? and ironically, must all transformational leaders bring positive change? From history, this VERY significant contribution towards the resistance of foreign occupation shouldn't be minimized or dismissed.....it POSITIVELY transformed the entire country.... Even if you don't advocate violence ( I also don't) ......getting serious transformation can come in many ways and sometimes, depending on circumstances, by any means necessary....including violence. Now, get this too from me,..... with all the contradictions, violence, brutality, and retrogressive acts, there are some transformational leaders who bring NEGATIVE change. The Mungiki leader in custody, Maina Njenga, is actually a transformational leader. Shocked? However, he's changed society in many negative ways. I don't particularly like the idea that he actually had a vision, sold his thing to millions of inspired followers, who are NEGATIVELY changing large portions of the Kenyan society. Anyway let me revert and dedicate this thread back to the American transformational leader, Obama. That Oregon rally was simply phenomenal, described as the biggest campaign rally (not march) EVER in recent American history.

JOb Mungiki has many faces (I think).
Is it aiming to be like Hezbollah which provides many social services while engaged in a viscious armed struggle? Mungiki may have noble aspirations but these are clouded and undermined by their ruthless killing sprees.
Mungiki just fascinates me. Witness the legions of Gema politicians now paying hommage to it.

On another note, PM, I can't stand the Clinton folks talk about the popular vote, they truly irritate me and as per now they've really gone over-board. I'm just wondering, as per their calculation, by yesterday, She was up by less than 30,000. She'll win KY with slightly over 200,000. And they are all promising that by June 3rd, as per their calculations, she'll be up on the popular vote, what is the Obama's scenario of turning that crazy math over? What are the polls like in the remaining 3 states?

Also Obama leads mcCain by 8pts Nationally ..."Obama, who was tied with McCain in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup last month, moved to a 48 percent to 40 percent lead over the Arizona senator..." Also ...."The poll also found Obama expanded his lead over Clinton in the Democratic race to 26 percentage points, doubling his advantage from mid-April as Democrats begin to coalesce around Obama ....." www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/21/AR2008052100137.html
