Man,You are right. Museveni is nothing but a tin-pot dictator who thinks he can abuse his executive powers to muzzle the sole voice of opposition in Uganda. How can a duly elected president (more than 60% of the vote) of a country lock-up his sole major opposition leader 4 times in one damn month for just wanting to take a walk to work peacefully? If Museveni can do this to his own people, is there still a lingering doubt that he descended on Kenyans (his neighbours) with his rag-tag, good-for-nothing-bush-bastards of soldiers during the PEV to perpetuate crimes against humanity? Am I stretching my imaginations too far by purporting my claim? At least 5 innocent Ugandan lives have been lost for no apparent reason during this walk-to-work-campaign! And what for? For nothing! The whole madness defies my mental capacity to comprehend! And that is why I say, down with the king..., down with the muthamakis of this world....., down with Museveni and his fellow despots in Mother Afrika....,! Wake up East African Community, wake up now! You coward Museveni, set Dr. Besigye free right now and let Ugandans live without fear any more!! Hello, is the bedroom-bully aka Museveni even listening? Museveni STOP IT right now!! It could just be for your own damn good!

There certainly many ways of making your point and when one methods seems not to work, it is pointless to keep trying it - no one takes you seriously after a while. If a protest cannot be sustained, then it has little hope of succeeding.
Perhaps Besigye needs to look at Anna Hazare of India who went on a hunger strike and had millions follow him until he forced the Indian Government to announce a raft of legislative measures to fight corruption. It was never violent but it had an effect.
My point? When you are not certain that you have sufficient backing, dont allow yourself to get into a clobbering match with the powers that be!

However, you are ignoring the fact that in the latest attack/brutality against Dr. Bisigye, the man was not in a protest or leading any protest. He was simply riding in his car when he was attacked by those goons sent by Museveni. All this hapenning just a day after he was released from jail

It is how it is perceived by the other side. He did not have to walk to get arrested and the message is simple - he should consider himself under house arrest if the government will not allow him to leave his house! I think that is Museveni's message and that is why I think a change in tact may be helpful here!

BREAKING NEWS: Rioting breaks out in UgandaRioters setting up burning roadblocks in downtown Kampala clashed with police firing tear gas on Friday, a day after Uganda's opposition leader was arrested for the fourth time this month. An AFP correspondent said rioters using scrap and burning tyres had set up road blocks around a market area in the centre of the capital, drawing tear gas fire from a deployment of police and military police. "It started in the morning when groups of youths started burning tyres and setting up road blocks in Kiseka market," police spokeswoman Judith Nabakooba said. Nabakooba said that security personnel had been deployed and were putting out burning tyres. "Our personnel are moving to put out fires. We are containing it," she said. Nabakooba said the police had "not yet established" the causes for the disturbances. On Thursday, opposition leader Kizza Besigye was arrested by police who smashed his car windows with guns and hammers before bundling him into the back of pick-up truck. Besigye, who lost to President Yoweri Museveni for the third time in February elections he says were rigged, had only just been released from a week in custody. Besigye and other opposition leaders earlier in April started walking to work twice a week as a symbolic protest against rising fuel costs but the demonstrations have met with a tough response from the police. According to the Ugandan Red Cross, five people have died nationwide this month in violence. Food and fuel prices have soared in the eastern African country recently, with Museveni blaming inflation on meteorological and global economic factors, but protestors see it as a result of bad governance.

This should be a wakeup call for Savo! The people of Uganda are talking. This should force Savo to rush to the negotiating table with the opposition. The police spokeswoman in this article says that they are containing it. Containing what, the fire being lit up on the roads? This is laughable. The police had "not yet established" the causes for the disturbances.

Museveni is definitely out of his head. He is really being a Mugabe. He better watch and watch real keenly. Libya is currently still burning since February 15.
Besigye should sustain the fight. For as long as he continues to get media coverage...the Ugandans may sympathize and join him. And when they do that, there wont be a turning back. Also, the world is watching.
Hunger strike is only a wise tool if your other freedoms have been curtailed. But for as long as you have the freedom of movement, keep pressing on...and publicly. Besigye is plotting well, and he must press on.

Hunger strike is only a wise tool if your other freedoms have been curtailed. But for as long as you have the freedom of movement, keep pressing on...and publicly. Besigye is plotting well, and he must press on. Very Well stated. Besigye, should put up with the fight for justice so long as he has that fire in his belly. Anyone counseling otherwise is just another mouthpiece for the status quoist forces and you can see just how bad these retrogressive forces have been for Kenya. The Status quo does not want competition and they advocate for some stupid obscure laughable tactics like "hunger strike". That is so completely inane idiocy I cant even laugh. Show me one case where a leader went on hunger strike and sparked a revolution. Ushenzi kweli, but the status quoists love nothing more that a passive weakened harmless opponent. Damm jameni is this foolish or what? ;D ;D The great abolitionist Douglass Power once said "Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will" So yes Besigye should continue with his quest for justice and a level political playing field so long as he has the fire in the belly. But he should not be a bloody coward and hide and start on some ephemeral "hunger strikes". Talk about being insanely foolish - playing into the hands of the dictator who will just laugh him out of town! ;D ;D

Einstein,Here is the 411 on the guy: Unmasking Besigye’s tormentor The man in the pictureHis name is Gilbert Bwana Arinaitwe. But a UPDF deserter, now living in Europe, who says they were bosom friends and classmates at Ogut Primary School in Tororo Municipality, insists today’s showy Arinaitwe was by 1986 a bare-footed Jackson Kirunda receiving whips from teacher Okwakol almost on daily basis for failing Mathematics and English assignments. The contrast of his known humble beginnings, a supposedly prayerful life and an introvert’s posture were yesterday betrayed when the hitherto concealed evil in Arinaitwe erupted, shocking and galling his friends and mentors. Not least lecturers at Uganda Christian University where he obtained a Social Work and Social Administration Bachelor’s degree in 2006.“He used to be a class captain and a quiet guy. I am embarrassed by what he did (in arresting Besigye),” said his former lecturer. He sauntered at the Mulago roundabout in Kampala, pistol tucked to the waist line, after using it to knock down Besigye’s car windows, re-enacting alleged rogues committed by Idi Amin’s berated forces. Without a gun, light weight Arinaitwe would unlikely stage an average fight, except blurt out words in a quarrel as he does while translating for a top city pastor. He reportedly participated in investigating an unresolved sodomy case. Associates, appalled and galled by his yesterday’s conduct, or rather misconduct, say he is a man of devotion, who prays while speaking in tongues. On the streets, in the church and at shops, he starts his conversation with a calm Mukama ye bazibwe (Praise God) Christian tone. His wedding photos on face book page, scrambled after his unprecedented assault on Besigye, show him smiling in the tight embrace with his wife. It would be odd that he chose to introduce himself to Ugandan tax payers who buy his food and dress him by tormenting a man his senior in wealth, power and contribution to the country’s 1986 ‘liberation’. In lawful times, Arinaitwe, a CID officer attached to the Kireka-headquartered Rapid Response Unit, would be operating under cover like all civilised detectives, identifying and preventing crime. www.monitor.co.ug/News/National/-/688334/1152902/-/c25w69z/-/index.html

Mwalim Asante sana.
How does one fight such brutality via "hunger strikes" ?
Dictators are funny folks. They invoke the law when it suits them Remember Martha telling ODM to go to court to contest the 2007 election?

This is an excerpt from an official Uganda Government statement in relation to the arrest of KB in Kampala... Full article available here: www.monitor.co.ug/News/National/-/688334/1153316/-/c25citz/-/index.htmlGovernment explains Besigye arrest 'At this time, a senior police officer approached the left window of Dr. Besigye’s car urging him to drive off. The officer was sprayed with a can of pepper spray by one of the associates of Dr. Besigye who was seated with him in the car. While this was going on, Dr. Besigye was giving press interviews that included foreign journalists'. Is that crap or what? How could KB be giving an interview while his car's windows were being shattered by state operatives? I think this is an insult to the intelligence of Ugandans. All of us saw that KB had tucked his head in between the front seats... What a sad attempt at trying to legitimize an illegitimate exercise. The man who performed the most during this debacle shall surely be held to account for his actions. We all know that use of force is allowed, but only proportional to the threat. What a sad day for Uganda. That shows us what kind of a neighbour Kenya has. M7 just lost a great chance to show that he is a true statesman... He has shown that he will go to all lengths to maintain his status quo. What I also wonder, these soldiers (thugs), don't they have families who are affected? Or have they been brainwashed to clobber their own brothers and sisters? I sincerely hope this guy is brought to book, even the guy who emptied a whole can of pepper spray into the defenseless KB and crew.

Besigye tormentor’s wife collapses over husband actions Share Bookmark Print Email Rating By John Abimanyi
Posted Saturday, April 30 2011 at 00:00
The wife to Gilbert Arinaitwe, the security operative who used his gun’s butt to knock out the windscreen of Dr Kizza Besigye’s car window before unleashing pepper-spray and tear gas directly on the opposition leader’s face and body, collapsed yesterday evening as the news of her husband’s actions reached her, a close family source revealed to this newspaper.
Ms Beatrice Arinaitwe, who is said to be pregnant with Mr Arinaitwe’s first child, is currently on bed rest and under the constant supervision of her family doctor. The news of her husband’s actions hit her very hard and made her yield to high blood pressure hence collapsing, the source says. By Friday afternoon, however, she was steadily recovering.
The security operative’s wife did not get to see her husband’s antics relayed on TV but had to suffer the confusing effects of a barrage of phone calls from friends and relatives who saw Gilbert step into action like a seasoned mortal combat star. “It is after so many people started telling her of what her husband had done that she collapsed,” the source says.
Ms Arinaitwe, a lawyer, fell in love with her husband in part due to his calmness. He was always wearing a smile and was always preaching the word of God. “And that (his actions yesterday) is what has shocked the wife so much,” the source says. She married Mr Arinaitwe early last year.
The source says relatives of the family, plus fellow church members at Miracle Centre Cathedral, Rubaga, are still overwhelmed with shock as they have thrust Beatrice into the limelight under such embarrassing circumstances.
Yesterday afternoon, photographs of the couple’s delightful wedding day, circulated on internet social networking sites, Facebook and Twitter, and across email platforms. The photo’s mass circulation, including being published in Friday’s newspapers, have brought uncalled for bad publicity to the wife, the source further adds.
Gilbert Arinaitwe’ actions have sparked anger amongst supporters of Dr Besigye and NRM supporters alike and resulted in a countrywide protest on Friday in various parts of the country.

I have an old pamphlet by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, from around 1986. It talks about backward leadership and he is describing Dr. Milton Obote's rottenness. Reading it again, it looks like young M7 is describing old M7! And Olara Otunu, then an Obote apologist, has meanwhile evolved in the other direction, becoming modern and progressive.
I gather Bessigye was barred from boarding the plane to Kenya for several hours, his doctor separated from him too. Latest is he has not yet regained his sight in a Nairobi hospital.
M7 is good rotten, and his plan to perpetuate his clan's rule by elevating his son, Muhoozi Kainerubaga, to become the president after him, alienates even his remaining supporters. ------ NB: The USA fitted the UPDF with modern gear to hunt down and eliminate Joseph Kony and his band of murderers, who had retreated to the Congo. Major Kainerubaga was put in charge of the operation, to shore up his CV in preparation for elevation to the post of army commander. Then shit happened. The Ugandan army disintergrated in the Congo to the amazement of the americans, who found some of their jeeps being driven by Chinese constructors elsewhere in the Congo! And some of their communications tools being used by the SPLA!
Major Muhoozi, scared of the loyalty of the soldiers deep in the congolese jungles, stayed 300km far from the front! The foot soldiers, mostly from other areas than M7s group [who are elite and in the presidential gaurd] went into business in wide lawless Congo, killing still loyal officers then selling american gear to raise starting capital and marry local women! Unbelievable Africa!
But will M7 go peacefully, or will he plung his country into chaos?

Kimalet If Kenyans in 1991-92, Tunisians, Egyptians and Libyans (2011) had followed your advice Moi would this time preparing for his 8th 5 Year term. Instead thousands gave their dear lives to police batons, tear gas and live bullets until some cosmetic changes were made to re-establish multi-party competitive politics. Contrary to the western media twist, the "Tunisian" thing started in Sub Saharan Africa and has finally reached the Arab World years later. Yes we have had some serious backsliding as the case now emerging in Uganda and what Kibaki managed to do around here in 2007/2008 but that does not deny Sub Saharan Africa the right to be recognized as having blazed the way for the Arabs. Nearly ALL Arab countries are confirmed dictatorships. The are two exceptions - Lebanon and The Palestinian Territory. Museveni is definitely out of his head. He is really being a Mugabe. He better watch and watch real keenly. Libya is currently still burning since February 15. Besigye should sustain the fight.
