"Raila comes with a track record. Raila has worked hard to liberate Kenya; to create democratic space. To ensure that impunity is a thing of the past and many, many other [accomplishments] around brand Raila Amolo Odinga." William Oduol. There is nothing to add to this excellent assessment of Raila by the very man at the center of the Siaya nomination fracas Raila enemies are trying to exploit for their ill-motivated quest to "stop" Raila from being reelected but this time sworn as our next president. I take this opportunity to thank Mr. Oduol for his objectivity and separation of Raila from the rest of whatever happened in Siaya of which clearly Raila had nothing to do with it for if he had, you would expect this gentleman to be screaming from the top of mountains that he did. Now, the nomination exercise is over, Cord family get out there and promote those who have been nominated, especially those at the top and let the tsunami known as ODM and now Cord once again unleash it's power and force of influence and appeal across the country as we saw in 2007. Do not be distracted by those against change and lovers of status quo whose sole mission is to throw the country in reverse gear by trying to "stop" Raila in his rightful and much desired ascendency to the presidency. They shall fail much as they have in the past and their failure will be a victory not just for Raila and Cord but the country as a whole for only Raila and Cord can lead us to where we should have been a long time ago and that's a country that respects the rule of law and rich in democracy, peace and prosperity.

An interesting interview, to say the least. Oduol was very candid about ODM. He couldn't have described it any worse! "undemocratic, dictatorial, imposer of rejected leaders, etc, etc". I think he was objective and clever at that.
And then somehow Oduol manages to exclude Raila from the ODM's filth! Brilliantly, so to speak. Again, perhaps honestly and passionately stated.
But I am not entirely at peace with all that; the party on one side and the leader on the other, with extremely contrasting qualities! OK, spare me, others may be worse.
I like the fellow though. Comes across as smart and firm.
Aside; when Oduol mentioned Oburu Oginga, for a moment I thought I had heard Ohuru Oginga! What a blessing eh? ;D ;D
I promised myself if ever I successfully manage to return home, I will endeavor to learn dholuo and gukiyu and at least four other kenyan tongues if I can! Jakaswanga, any help?

There I read a bold suggestion, to the effect that Oburu should just step aside and be quiet, because once Raila gets into State House he will get something big. Of course, I don't know what that has to do with Oduol, who, as you rightly point out, comes across as smart, articulate and firm.

I think he was objective and clever at that. In the 290 constituencies, 47 counties and more than 1400 wards Cord fielded candidates, only in a handful were there any complaints and credible information shows there was a shameless effort by outsiders to sully the process in the hopes of people saying exactly the nonsense they are saying now that ODM is "undemocratic, dictatorial, dynastic, blah, blah, blah" just because two of Raila's siblings were seeking to be nominated as governor. Although I would concede the argument being made that the two should not have both vied for the offices they did, I would in the same breath note those blabbing here about the happenings in Siaya have no clue what actually happened and are just parroting what they have heard from those claim to know or are privy to what happened, who it doesn't follow won't spin it in their favor. Here is the fact: the only body with access to information and records as to what happened has examined the evidence and reached the decision they have, consistent with ODM's party constitution and that in Siaya, both candidates who sought the governorship and at the center of the saga are disqualified. Ruth has done the right thing in withdrawing her consideration, unfortunate as it is but understandable. That decision by the Cord National Elections Board must be accepted and the party now must move on to doing what needs to be done alongside with their other partner parties to ensure successful Cord elections and victories across the country starting from the top for the coalition. Its enemies and naysayers can keep yapping about things that don't matter in the end its best they are simply ignored and focus is on the crossing line where most of Cord my cross first, starting from Raila as he waltzes into State House to embark on his ultimate goal of transforming the country. Others are 10 times worse, including the leading among them, Jubilee, which did not have any nominations to write home about; there is no reason to be spared that fact.

Meanwhile, Raila is stating all this noise about what transpired in Nyanza is much ado about nothing to do with his quest for the presidency as it shouldn't. Raila says he is not to blame for protests in nominations, www.standardmedia.co.ke/?articleID=2000075670&story_title=Kenya-Raila-says-he-is-not-to-blame-for-protests-in-nominations-By Geoffrey Mosoku and Roselyne Obala Nairobi, Kenya: Prime Minister Raila Odinga has downplayed the protests that marred the just-concluded party primaries, arguing its effects will not affect his bid. “We have come to the end of a fiercely competitive election primaries. To all people of Kenya, I urge for calm and reconciliation now that the primaries are over,” he appealed. Although the violence was witnessed in Nyanza, a region considered his stronghold, the PM said it could not be used to gauge his popularity. Raila dismissed as speculation fears that the chaos may dent his quest for the presidency, reiterating that the mess witnessed was not a party affair, but an unfortunate occurrence. “I represent Nairobi and have a national support base. I was not present in these areas and the failures should not be blamed on me,” he said. Despite Raila’s home turf being Nyanza, he sought to set the record straight that his political backyard is Nairobi. “I am a national leader with support across all the regions in the country,” he told journalists. He also said assumptions that he might lose support as a result of the violence were not based on any facts. The Prime Minister said his party had relied on information received from returning officers. Raila said the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) faced challenges in three out of the 47 counties and thus could not be perceived to limit his presidential chances. “The violence was isolated in some areas. The incidents are unfortunate but it’s time to put everything behind and move forward united as a country,” he urged. The PM, without mentioning the counties, made reference to Kisumu, Homa Bay and Siaya, where he said ODM had tried to resolve the disputes amicably. “We will try to make the best out of the challenges the party faced. We will ratify those mistakes and move forward,” he said. Raila noted that the huge interest in the party ticket was clearly a manifestation of the strong desire for change and that CORD was the force for change.

The questions you pose are apt and answers to them reveal what's at the core of why we have been unable to move forward as a country for much as progressives and reformists like Raila try to do just that, namely, push us forward, there are those stuck in the past merely because they refuse to accept the reality of the future where we are Kenyans, not the tribalists they'll want us to be confined to or at least suffer its consequences. I have long resigned to the frustration there is absolutely no correlation between being educated, smart or intelligence and backwardness generally and specifically when it comes to the embrace and practice of tribalism. You're so right Raila is unstoppable and even his arch-enemies, opponents and haters realize that fact. Thanks for your complement; it's comments like that that make it worthwhile to be bloodied as I have simply for sharing what I know and believe.
I could not have stated it better - what a waste of bandwidth and time - these misguided Raila haters are? How do people who have brains misuse such a powerful matter on useless and nonsensical one sided view of things with such a consistence? Or is it that ..., the severity of tribalism and the misguided notion of being seen as "not like others" is what drive these people to engage in such an incoherent verbiage? Like i said before, nothing is going to stop Raila Odinga from winning this thing, it seems like majority of Kenyans have already made up their minds on that.
Ndugu 'johns',Habari ya masiku? It has been a while since. I hope and pray you feel much better now and welcome you back to Jukwaa. I must admit that I was a little bit surprised by your remarks above. I perceived them to be non-reflective of issues raised, your right to fanatically support Raila and ODM on equal measures aside. The interview was given by Oduol. An ODM 'candidate', who clearly stated his preference and adoration for Raila. I did not detect any hatred against Raeela AmoIo Odinga. I even liked the way he mentioned Raila's name with such passion and precision! I like precision, relevance and appropriateness, you see. But as we had observed, Oduol was also courageous enough to speak boldly against ODM. ODM is just a political party like any other. You could replace the 'O', the 'D' and the 'M' with any of the twenty three letters of the alphabet, and it will still remain the same and similar to others. You see, that is why every dick, tom and hussein could swap parties like changing underwear, without raising any eye brows! That is what one may call uniformity or whatever that may connote similarities of such. But what may make ODM distinct with the others, is not the manifesto or policies it may have, but rather it is the person of our good old honorable Raeela Amolo Odinga! His credentials outstrip his peers. I have never been one of those who dispute that fact. But I also have my reservation on Raila, and the rest, and I have made my feelings known, at least here in Jukwaa. In doing that, I have never expressed any "hate" or extremes of any emotions. Mine were pure observations on Raila as a person. No laughs, no screams, no cries. And again, even though I may have expressed some criticisms on Raila, I still managed to categorically state that I would vote for him if I could, in preference to others! You have missed quite a bit you see: jukwaa.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=7766 But that does not mean we should all turn a blind eye to what ODM potentially is or 'bury our heads in the sand' for what as a party it can be made of! OMD is just that. ODM. Rather than shoot at every critic against the same due to your one sided and unquestionable love of the same, I say gather the courage and speak your mind like our good young Oduol could! Someone once told me that what we write in the internet is written in "indelible ink". With that remark I promise you this, right here and right now: ODM will prove to be just like any other party and Raila will have a tough battle to fight, even in his own party after he wins! I pray that he wins and wins with a very clear margin, for I believe that is what is good for Kenya today. But I also know that ODM members are Kenyans, just like all those members belonging to other political parties, TNA, URP, ODF, FUK, RGD, PSC, what have you, mostly are opportunists out there to make a killing for their own imaginary bellies and to that I will not bury my head in the sand, even if I am fanatical about Raila and time will prove me right! Where is "tribalism or hate" in that? And by the way, "hate" is something rather alien to me. I may disapprove on this and that, but to me hate is an unnecessary 'extreme', which can only be harmful to the practitioner and no one else! Now then, let us get out of this illusory episode and face the reality as we can see it! My regards to your good family.

I am always amused at the acrobatics of self-appointed Raila praise singers.
Some of us have been supporting Raila for THIRTY YEARS, going back to the day when some people would not touch him because he was deemed too radical.
Speaking as a Kenyan with roots in Siaya County who has been following the events unfolding in this region on a day to day basis-speaking primarily through ODM aspirants and folowers- I can not be amazed at the HYPOCRISY in trying to whitewash the undemocratic horrors witnessed in and across Siaya County- as indeed in Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori and other parts of Luo land by a cabal of electoral criminals.
There is no contradiction in supporting Raila and insisting that William Oduol was robbed; if indeed the D in ODM means anything ODM supporters must be on the front line of denouncing all things that went wrong during the nominations.
By the way, why did the ODM Electoral Board CANCEL all the certificates they had issued in Luo Nyanza?
Is Franklin Bett a TNA mole?

Is Franklin Bett a TNA mole? Onyango OlooOO, Find below an answer to your question . Franklin Bett was planted by none other than Kajwang, Nyongo, Midiwo and if we go by the results of the nomination the ploy was a successs. www.nation.co.ke/News/politics/Parties-face-nominations-fall-out-/-/1064/1651974/-/3dhj70/-/index.htmlDr Henry Muthee Kathurima was replaced by Roads minister Franklin Bett, who announced last week that he would not be contesting any seat in next year’s elections. D r Kathurima was kicked out after a month-long tug of war between the party secretariat and the elections board amid claims some senior party officials were trying to manipulate the process in favour of some “politically correct candidates”.The former chairman claimed that the plot to dish out direct nominations was being engineered by top party officials at Orange House. “There are things which are happening because of competition for places. We as a board want to carry out our mandate without interference because that is what we pledged to do,” Dr Kathurima said.

Onyango OlooOO, Next time, please name, names and don't leave us suspended who these "self appointed Raila praise singers are," it'll make your post more exciting. Wait a minute; could I be in the list of the condemned as such? I hope not but be as it may, this is what I wish to say about this: What happened in Siaya and Nyanza in general is water under the bridge; as the title of this thread clearly suggests, and I have noted elsewhere, the nomination exercise there was less than textbook. However, as the Cord Electoral Board Chairman Franklin Bett said, he had to make a decision that was in the best interest of the party and coalition, which he has done. Now, Cord and its supporters and well wishers must move on to the next big task and that's winning in the general elections, starting from the top. The choice there is very clear: you either support Cord or Jubilee at the top; supporting anyone else is a wasted vote. As for the rest of the positions, the choice is still Cord or Jubilee but there is some flexibility there as to who one could support even though my plea is for people to vote a straight Cord ticket from top bottom. I have previously blogged, though, that it's understandable for some candidates to vie under other than Cord while supporting Raila for the presidency. We'll see a lot of that in RV and that's why Raila will carry the region even though the number of MPs Cord gets may be less than what URP gets. In the end what matters is Raila being reelected but this time sworn as president and along with that Cord winning a comfortable number of seats in Parliament and Governorships to effectively govern. Having said that, let me remind everyone lest they have forgotten No Democracy is Perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can take it to the bank the next general elections after 2013 will be much, much better in all respects much as 2013 is already better than any in the past for we know nobody will be whining about who Kenyatta or Moi wanted--or even Kibaki for that matter for any seat for they would be singing at Nyayo House under great pain.
Anyway, I have got to go I have a praise singing rehearsal to catch.

Ongoro rejecting the direct nomination certificate is a sign of her Exercising her Democratic rights! so I don't see the big deal about it!! Every party is dishing out direct nomination certificates at their own discretion ! Kenyans don't find it a big deal..
NOTICE SOME PEOPLE WILD ATTACKS ON RAILA & ODM ;D ;D HILARIOUS WHILE THEY TURN A BLIND EYE ON THE SAME PROCESS OF DIRECT NOMINATION CERTIFICATE BEING HANDED OUT IN UHURU "TNA" AND THE PROBLEMS THE PARTY IS HAVING.. INTERESTING TURN OF EVENTS ON JUKWAA! NOTICE MORE DIRECT RAILA BASHING FROM SOME QUARTERS!! IT DOES REMIND ME OF WHEN MIGUNA PUBLISHED HIS BOOK.. THE SAME PEOPLE BASHED RAILA WITH MAYBE BIG PROMISES FROM MIGUNA.. SEEMS CURIOUS...;D ;D
