Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.... .THREATS ON MY LIFE SHALL NOT DETER ME By MIGUNA MIGUNAIssued at Nairobi, Kenya – Saturday, November 29th, 2011At 7 a.m. this morning, I received a telephone call from my father-in-law who resides in Migori town, in Migori County, in Nyanza Province, informing me that yesterday, four men who identified themselves as ODM politicians from Kisumu visited him at his home and demanded that he communicates to me the following: (a) That I have been saying and writing bad things about Raila Odinga; and (b) That if I don’t stop immediately, they will kill me.After issuing this threat, the men left. Sometime last week, another person visited my elder brother in Magina village in Kisumu County, Nyanza Province and issued a similar threat. My father-in-law is an elderly retired education officer. My brother is a retired public officer. They are both innocent and law abiding citizens of this country. They were deeply troubled, worried, traumatized and concerned about the threat. I am similarly concerned. Last Thursday November 10th, 2011, I received written communication from the Chief Executive Officer of the Star newspaper, Mr. William Pike, advising that the Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, was very upset about an article I had published in the Star on Tuesday November 8th, 2011, titled: “ We Must Never Tolerate Theft of Public Resources”. That article was about corruption in government; not about Raila Odinga. William requested that I should “go slow on the Prime Minister” in my column until the “dust settles.” The Star subsequently caved in to political pressure from the Prime Minister and refused to publish an article I submitted for my column of Tuesday November 15th on political violence and hooliganism. That article appears in today’s issue of the People newspaper (and is attached herewith). I take all threats to my life very seriously. I intend to file a formal complaint with the Criminal Investigations Department shortly after this press conference. I expect and demand that these threats be thoroughly investigated and the culprits dealt with to the full extent of the law. My freedom of thought, conscience, expression and association are entrenched, enshrined and guaranteed by the Constitution. I shall never waive them nor allow anybody – no matter how powerful – to violate them without a good fight. Finally, I hope and expect that my security that was arbitrarily and maliciously withdrawn on August 4th, 2011 will be reinstated with immediate effect. My life is more sacred and more important that someone’s delusional belief that he has a God-given right to the presidency of the Republic of Kenya! I shall continue to exercise all my rights without fear or favour.

Finally, I hope and expect that my security that was arbitrarily and maliciously withdrawn on August 4th, 2011 will be reinstated with immediate effect. I take it that this is a case of one missing his former opulent lifestyle. Rather than find a better way of getting it back, or better still working hard and earning it, all we are left with are concoctions of a very fertile mind. Next you will be demanding the government car, house, children's fees etc that were unceremoniously withdrawn from your possession. Shindwe kabisa.

IF indeed there are death threats against Miguna, then I stand with him on this one.
But let it also be noted that this matter should be seen in plain black and white colours. That is why I have begun my response here with the conjunction "IF".
Immediately I read Miguna's statement, I thought about political opponents of ODM who may want to take advantage of the gentleman's "fallout" with the Premier. They could be imposters posing as ODM reps, issuing threats with the aim of scandalizing the party.
I will not however be surprised to hear Tom Mboya's assassination cropping up and subsequently being linked to Jaramogi, and that now Raila, his son wants to do the same thing his father did to Ja'rusinga.
The police must get to the bottom of this matter as quickly as possible. I am saying this hoping that they are not involved deeply the very people orchestrating the matter.
Nyong'o recently exposed them when they were caught stealing letters from his Ministry's post office box.

With all due respect to all concerned, this is bullcrap. I hope that the police take up this matter and arrest Miguna for defamation and creating a false alarm.
Miguna Miguna is treating us to a circus. His ego is now too big even for his crumpled suits. He thinks he is so important that Raila will waste time arguing with him. No. There are more important matters. He ‘loved’ Raila and thought he was indispensable – even eating public money without a valid contract. He is now so angry that Raila continues with life and politics without missing a beat.
This is just a big baby crying for attention.
Apparently, the Star has told him to move on to other topics and stop obsessing with Raila in his weekly column. But he insists on spewing drivel. So he has fully joined Uhuru’s media empire by writing in the useless People Daily and speaking on Jeff Koinange's K24’s bench. Those are the media outlets where his distasteful ramblings are welcome.
Miguna is insignificant. He is NOT a threat to Raila and will never be. Kenyans know him to be a clown and enjoy his ranting and buffoonery for the comic relief it offers.
Wasn't Miguna Miguna the biggest campaigner for Raila Odinga’s presidency? When did that quest become delusional? When did he realize Raila is a conman and that Raila is too old? Where are the new, emerging reformers he promised us?
Raila has been in politics for many years and has never approached siasa the way Miguna now claims.
There are hundreds of police stations in Kenya. Miguna as a lawyer knows where to report his imaginary threats. After all, we have seen from online reports of cases in Canada that he specializes on arguing irrelevant points with policemen.
Seriously: Miguna needs to clear the air over the serious allegations that face him. That he harassed staff and used abusive language. That he engaged in gross misconduct. He needs to answer those.

I have a small question for the Doubting Thomases:
How about if what Miguna is saying is actually true?
What do you expect him to do:
Wait meekly to be throttled with a pillow in his own bed as he snores away soundly?
There must be a distinction between heated polemics even if these are on partisan or even personalized grounds are some of us are wont to engage on this forum and direct threats on people's safety.
When I spoke to Miguna a short while ago, he was in the throes of contacting the CID and other police agencies.

First it was violence on Tuju.
Now it's threats to Miguna's life because of the articles he has been writing of late, and the reigning in on the Star Newspaper to stop publishing Miguna's articles.
Just how desperate for presidency can a man get?
And if he should succeed in becoming president, will anyone be allowed to criticize him without violence and intimidation being visited on him or her?

This assumes that Miguna is right. And even if he was threatened, that it has something to do with Raila. It is also ignoring the kind of person Raila is. In case you are not aware, Miguna is viciously prosecuting a propaganda war against Raila. This is only the latest in a series of attacks.

I am glad he is going to the police. That is what he should have done at FIRST. They would have advised him appropriately. We cannot take him seriously because he has mixed politics with his personal security issues. What does this, if true, have to do with Raila's 'presidential delusions'? As someone has noted above, criminals can always take advantage of a situation or a dispute to add oil to fire. There are thousands of idiots who do things in the name of Kibaki, Raila, Uhuru etc... so it is entirely possible that some people could have done this without prompting. But that is NOT an excuse for a grown man to throw caution to the wind and engage in defamatory accusations. For now I am more inclined to believe that Miguna is engaged in a publicity stunt. Miguna is NOT doing himself any favours by politicizing everything.

He claims ODM leaders from Nyanza visited his father-in-law. Who are they? If he knows their party affiliations, then he certainly knows their names too. I don't see the need to have a press conference to inform us on your life threats while leaving out such an important piece of information.
Double Oloo, when you talked to him, did you ask him if he knows them or did his father-in-law do that? He does not need to hide their identities if they are messengers of death. This is his life he is talking about and if its under threat, then he shouldn't hold anything back.

Metaphorically this reminds me of a bull that is in rage charging on anything and everything it assumes it’s securing itself and its environs. Eventually it tires but after PUTTING ITSELF IN DANGER THE TREES, ITS HERD ETC and with lions, hyenas lurking guess what happens watch Nat geo
Why does everything have to be attributed to RAO?
1. How many articles have been written on RAO TO WHICH RAO has responded to his critics with threats, if so then so many writers who have BEEN heading to the cid on a daily basis to report. Therefore no one can actually say that this one article(on kkv) by MM has been the most threatening to the ‘god’ and his supporters
2. I ask this because how many toes has mm stepped on in the political arena both friends and foes. Therefore wouldn’t it be obvious there are so many people apart from the SANAMU in this Kenya beholden to a grudge towards mm?
ECHOING RR, even if true mm has managed to mix everything with politics not even excluding his personal space. It’s really precarious, he would expect security from the same people he was hell bent on teaching a lesson while working for RAO. Then at the same time expect understanding or support from the former /current employers that he is now hell bent on teaching a lesson.
It easy to see his precarious situation, even if true, as mere propaganda.
MY humble advice..oh no need, seems you never take any from even you ardent supporters in jukwaa.

Give their names directly to the cops, then complain when the cops do nothing! In Migori they are likely to do nothing, unless you give them fuel, air-time, and a few other things. But when MM was at the PM's, and we were telling them the one party state in Nyanza was a useless adminstration, they thought we were mount Kenya! Now let him go to a police station in Nyanza to report, and he will find out what we have been talking about! I can picture the looks on the faces of the coppers as MM enters the station. Sizing up how much money he can part with! Thing to do MM, if you wont be intimidated, is to fight for all Kenya, and drop your obsession against a sell by date politician who is past his peak. Raila wont plan your death and you know it. Grow up!

Miguna sit down.
You are an attention seeker miffed that the spotlight is no longer shining on you. Even ‘The star’ is tired of your tirades. Sane mind can spot balanced critique from unmitigated propaganda.
You could have gone quietly with your dignity, but nooooo. Now, get used to being irked that your rants (like this one) will be taken with a wheelbarrow of salt. Advice your new ‘comrades’ to give worthy material to work with, not these juvenile shouts of ‘wolf’. You give yourself more importance than you merit.

Folks,
Let me say a few things here before I go for the kids soccer game or get strangled.
1. Any time a person's life is threatened it is not a laughing matter. Miguna has every right to be concerned.
2. I strongly believe that exposing any such plots to the public is the right thing to do. You keep quiet at your own peril.
3. Since the four people who went to Miguna's father in law's house did not wear any disguise and actually identified themselves as ODM leaders in Kisumu, Miguna knows who they are. This will be the first tiem I have heard of any such thing. But since these guys were so bold, Miguna should provide their names and identity and have them arrested and interrogated.
4. Unless Raila Amolo Odinga was one of the four people who threatened Miguna I do not understand Miguna's insistence that Raila is trying to kill him. This verges on defamation. How about if it urns out this whole thing is phony or those four people have nothing to do with Raila?
5. I find it bizzare that Miguna is blaming Raila for the Star refusing to publish his article. Is Miguna telling us that William Pike, whom he actually introduced me to, is some spineless Raila puppet who would only publishes articles approved by Raila. What does William Pike has to say for himself.
6. If Raila was to kill everybody who has written bad things about him I think half the journalists and columnists in Kenya would be dead by now.
7. Let's not turn this into another circus. There are so many things happening in our country. Fighting Raila cannot be the only thing left for Kenyan activists.

These Luos who think that anyone opposed to Raila is opposed to the Luo community are taking us back to the dark days. As jakaswanga puts it, Raila is a politician who is beyond his saleby date, and I dont see any reason why someone should be threatening others with death for him.
This is not the first time Miguna is writing about a politician. All the while we've not seen them send some wazee who cannot even speak sawhili to his father in-law to warn him in mother tongue of dire consequences. This is the kind of intolerance we need to weed from the society.
For Raila, he needs to come out clean on this. We know that Miguna could have very classified information on the malpractices at the OPM, thus the need to silence him. It is a pitty for a man who claims to have fought for various freedoms in the country to be mentioned as the one threatening innocent Kenyans with death and gagging the media. It was Tuju last week, and now, Miguna Miguna. Who is next? Maybe Mwalimumkuu? Who knows.

As jakaswanga puts it, Raila is a politician who is beyond his saleby date, and I dont see any reason why someone should be threatening others with death for him. Luos? Which Luos? Stop thinking Luo all the time. The incident talks of politicians from Kisumu. Kisumu is cosmopolitan and the local MP is a Mhindi called Shakeel Shabir. In fact even Migori is so mixed up that the Mayor was a Junet Mohamed - somali origin! Even if this was a crime and the criminals are Luos their Luoness is irrelevant to their crime. This is the knee jerk tribalism that is so hard to uproot. Oh, you seem to know the people who Miguna is talking about better than Miguna himself. You even know their language abilities! Why don't you make yourself useful and record a statement at the nearest police station? Miguna is not the first person to write about Raila. More negative articles have been written about Raila Odinga than I care to remember. And it started even before Miguna knew his left from his right. Yet we are hearing this for the first time! Two things buddy - Miguna Miguna is out there. Free as a bird. He was fired last August (and if he had anything perhaps he would NOT have been fired - logic man!) What is keeping him from releasing the classified information that you are dreaming about? Tell us? What is he waiting for? And if you want to know the Kenyans who allegedly threatened, raped, killed and maimed other Kenyans please check with Mr. Moreno Ocampo at the Hague who is presenting evidence. Spare us your reckless talk and dreamy suppositions, already!

Well, well, here we go again. Kenyans deserve their security whether they are 'officers' or just about my sister in law who happens to sell her mangoes from the front of her homestead. But then again, we are talking about a man so full of his own importance that for him, whether his life is under threat or not, will always introduce his juvenile side to reinforce his point.
If his life is under threat, let him go the police. But wait again: Imagine the names and insults he has hurled at the police in kenya? I think they would be more than happy to toss him in for so many lies he peddles. And police are no angels in kenya, they are pretty hopeless, anyway.
Miguna has treated alot of people with so much condescending attitude and disdain that he has become paranoid and probably a recluse.
Raila Odinga must have the patience of a titan to have kept this man on a job, any job for such a long period of time. This is not anybody you would wish to sit near you in any capacity.
Uhuru kenyatta and moses Kuria are very much welcome to have him anytime..
The best thing ODM ever did was to let go this reckless self-seeker. And I think ODM has done very well to ignore him. The problem with this deluded man is that he can hurt himself, and blame almost everybody else. That is what scares me.....

This is the most delusional story I have read from Miguna Miguna.
Miguna has tried all tricks in the book to get attention by attacking Raila and none has worked. After calling Raila all sorts of names including thief, now he is attempting another dumb move of telling us the Raila is a murderer. As if we do not know Raila Amollo Odinga.
As has been said by others in the forum, if Raila were to kill people who write or say ugly stuff about him then I’m sure that people such as Mutahi Ngunyi, Prof Makua Mutua, editor of the DNA Githu would be dead and buried by now. Not to forget Kiraitu Murungi, Ruto, Tuju, keter, Orengo, Uhuru etc.
My take on this is that it’s just one of those notorious activities that Miguna is currentlyrumoured to be involved in on behalf of G7 i.e. character assassinating Raila Odinga.
Truth be told, Miguna has ZERO capacity to stop Raila from becoming president or not. Raila would therefore be most stupid to kill him.
It could be true that some persons told Miguna to keep off Raila, but does Raila know them? If that be the case why not just take Raila to court?
MIGUNA MIGUNA STOP BEING PARANOID.

OO, I think that MIguna should do the right thing and contact the CID, possible take Raila to court if what he is saying is true. But the whole thing sounds like a big concoction. This is the first time that someone claims Raila wants to kill him, yet he is no threat at all to Raila. Between WSR , UK and MM who would RAO want to kill if he indeed was a murderer? Lets wait and see if MM produces the thugs in court.
