The Nation Media Group is a big joke! Since when did Kenya have 60 counties (Uhuru 31 and Raila 29)? I thought we have only 47 and the winner in round one needs at least 24 of those counties! ;D ;D ;D ;D You are simply confused. It does not mean when Uhuru got more than 25 % in 31counties, and Raila got more than 25 % in 29 counties, Kenya has 60 counties. You seem not to realize that both Raila and Uhuru may have got 25% in the same counties. 25% here is in reference to the other presidential candidates when put in total to the vote gained. Thanks Sadik, now I get it!

I am writing this at approximately 9:35 pm Kenyan time on March 8, 2013.
I have heard from multiple sources including those linked to some key ODM insiders that Uhuru Kenyatta has already attained the 50.4% mark at this stage. One number cruncher on NTV had earlier put the magic number for Uhuru at 5,800, 000 votes. As I write this, I believe the Jubilee Presidential candidate has already reached 5.4 million votes.
Let us wait for the inevitable announcement that Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta is the fourth president of the Republic of Kenya.
I will ruminate on the ramifications of this development over the weekend.

Let the truth be told, Raila slept on the job and the result is paid in cash. There are no miracles in politics you have to work hard to win votes and be pragmatic in the way you do things. Not to say uhuru is pragmatic either but he worked hard to get the votes. The difference is way too large to contest.

Podp, I advise you to read OO's new thread on the US Media Conference & see how the Masters of the Universe speak amongst themselves in confidence. If those cases had no foundation, expect them to melt away. If I were Ruto & Uhuru I would cooperate with the court as long as a "we can't both be at The Hague at the same time" deal can be struck so as to avoid running the nation via Skype. Eventually, the charges will be quashed. The only downside of Uhuruto is they have succeeded in ushering in the Uhuru project that was rejected 11 years ago by the Kenyan people because no one wanted anything to do with Moi. This was thanks primarily to the whole ICC debacle. Now you have Gideon & his bro successfully winning their elective posts at the same time that a Uhuruto whitewash occurred in Baringo & Rongai? Hmmmm. Methinks the old order is laughing all the way to the next KE government

As always, its not the voting or tallying that matters, but the announcing. It took ~10 hours voting, ~ 5 hours counting and tallying and 5 days to announce the razor thin 0.01 margin necessary for the win.

Do we have an automatic recount in Kenya? After all the shenanigans...how can the elections be decided by a mere 0.5%

Uhuru Kenyatta has stated repeatedly that he is both innocent and will cooperate with the court, but whether in fact the trial will proceed, as I've just said, it remains to be seen. www.cfr.org/kenya/media-conference-call-kenyas-elections/p30156if the future President keeps his word as quoted above we may have what the article above alludes to. Advocates argue that arrest warrants will marginalise perpetrators and pave the way for peace negotiations and liberal transitions. Instead, results from Kenya's elections suggest that ICC indictees Uhru Kenyatta and his running mate William Ruto have successfully used their arrest warrants to rally public sympathy, strengthen the loyalty from ethnic compatriots, and secure a victory at the ballot box. Since becoming the subject of an ICC arrest warrant, Sudan’s President Omar Bashir has been successfully re-elected to power, traveled extensively, and received steady support from his African Union allies. Meanwhile, the most immediate and devastating consequence of the ICC’s arrest warrant was that Bashir forced several leading international humanitarian NGOs out of the country for allegedly cooperating with the ICC. www.the-star.co.ke/news/article-110848/can-we-afford-forgive-atrocitiesAnd so I would expect a warmer relationship if Raila Odinga wins the presidency, but either case, American interests and Kenyan interests are aligned. There are mutual interests in working together, particularly on these major regional challenges, but also on the stability of Kenya itself. And so, no, I don't think that it was appropriate to warn of consequences when, in fact, state interests are rather clear about our need to work with Kenya to realize our own foreign policy objectives in the Eastern Horn of Africa. www.cfr.org/kenya/media-conference-call-kenyas-elections/p30156There will be awkwardness perhaps in the short term, but not the long. The other is the ICC itself. We could go on for hours on this. I'd simply say that whether or not the case holds up, it's been handled very badly. If there were to be trials, they should have been last year. And this would all have been over by now. that agrees also with the Europeans “The most important point is that the Kenyan government continues to co-operate with the International Criminal Court, an institution which it voluntarily signed up to. If those indicted by the ICC choose not to co-operate, then it is a legal matter for the Court, not us, to decide what happens next.” www.africareview.com/Special-Reports/ICC-are-allies-willing-to-dump-Kenya/-/979182/1696720/-/tmyuoh/-/index.htmlso state interests are definitely going to override individuals concerns, especially if those individuals are the President and Deputy President of a country.

Why can't we go the collegiate system as is done in the US when it commes to presidential elections. In this way we could avoid the long vote tallying that brings a whole country to standstill for close to one week. Don't you think those who wrote our constitution could have been wiser than bring us this devil we have to face every five years. Most elections tallying at the consituency and counties went so well.
Maybe its time we rethink our presidential elections!

According to the NY Times, Raila will not concede. Seems like too many unanswered questions about the tallying process. Honestly, some numbers don't make sense like some of the calculations. Anyway, let Mutunga find the truth, if he can. “Raila has no intention of conceding and will be challenging this in court,” said Salim Lone, the adviser to Mr. Odinga. “The level of the failures in the system makes it very difficult to believe it was a credible result, and if Uhuru is declared president, Raila will go to court.” Read more here.
