What do you guys think of this guy Fareed? PM, I'm surprised the Clinton rumor-mongers have not twisted this. Fareed is an Indian Muslim and I was waiting for those propaganda machines from the Clinton and McCain camp to get to full throttle. About that particular book I read some excerpts here: www.newsweek.com/id/135380?tid=relatedclI agree with this guy to a certain extent but somehow I feel he’s generalizing too much. Take for instance the Bollywood vs Hollywood scenario he’s trying to create. This guys argues that “…biggest movie industry is Bollywood, not Hollywood..” which is somehow true depending on what type of “biggest” one might have in mind. Take these facts for instance: …Bollywood made a revenue of $1.75 Billion in 2006(estimated to rise to $3.4 Billion in 2010) which is only half the revenue of what one Hollywood studio, Walt Disney made in 2006 [ not 2008]- and that is saying a lot... …almost all of the top 50 movies are made in Hollywood. It has virtually eclipsed all other film industries except Bollywood - for instance, the European film industry cut down to 1/10th of its size since 1910… … The average cost of producing, marketing and distributing a Hollywood film is more than US$60 million though a Star Wars or Harry Potter costs around $100 million and only one out of ten succeeds. At the same time Shekhar Kapur’s ‘Paani’ which is tipped to be the costliest film ever to be made in Bollywood will cost $20 million and the average cost of a big movie is around $ 5 Million. 50% of the movies produced in Bollywood are never released and on an average more than 95% of those released results in losses… …Around 15 million Indian expatriates living in different parts of the world account for over 65% ofBollywood’s earnings. An estimated $800 is spent by NRI’s in Indian movies and music. US (2 million Indian expats), UK(1.5 million) , South Africa(1 million of Africa’s 2 million Indian population) are major markets for Bollywood… …Despite the hype surrounding Bollywood’s increasing influence in the world movie industry, it is a long way from being a threat to Hollywood’s influence. Revenue-wise Hollywood movies does not depend on ticket sales alone. It follows the time-tested ‘franchise-formula’ where a major part of the revenue comes from other segments like TV networks, magazines, home-videos etc… mutiny.wordpress.com/2007/02/01/bollywood-vs-hollywood-the-complete-breakdown/Most if not all of his ideas are debatable. I believe this guy must be one guy who’s really wishing for an American downfall. Most of Indians I know and those that I’ve had a conversation with, always have that kind of reasoning, not at all a surprise.

This is the best analysis of the GE I've read so far (the Huffington post article) . Just realistic. Infact, in some sense, it's just cautiously optimistic rather than painting a rosy picture. For instance, the model (based on regression analysis) predicts Obama winning without needing the states of Ohio, New Hampshire, Nevada, Virginia or Florida. I also can't agree more with the premises;
-The more people get to know Obama, the more likely it is that he will get their support. But the more they know about McCain, the less likely they are to vote his way.
-Obama's campaign will change the electorate. It will massively increase turnout among minorities and young people.
-Obama's massive small-donor fundraising base will give his campaign a huge advantage on this new, wider playing field.
-From the beginning of his primary campaign, Obama has had one consistent message: change you can believe in. He appeals for unity not division, for hope instead of fear. This resonates with voters tired of the division, fear and selfishness of the Bush years.
-Finally, Obama's ability to inspire is a massive general election asset.
this was quite an analysis.

Geraldine Ferraro (Mondales running mate for VP) is a lunatic! www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2008/05/30/healing_the_wounds_of_democrats_sexism/Talking about the so called 'Reagan Democrats AKA GOP supporters in Dem clothing', she says.... ...."That when he said in South Carolina after his victory "Our Time Has Come" they believe he is telling them that their time has passed"..... Uh?In the South Carolina electoral victory speech and in other venues, Obama talks of an inclusive "We" to mean a movement, and not "We" to mean "Black people"!! Is this woman deliberately spinning or is she a born again idiot? She says: ....."They don't identify with someone who has gone to Columbia and Harvard Law School and is married to a Princeton-Harvard Law graduate"So these higly desirable but elusive Reagan Dems can identify with Yale grads with an income of 109M over 6yrs? WTF?This comment here from this fringe lunatic qualifies for WTF squared. ...."His experience with an educated single mother and being raised by middle class grandparents is not something they can empathize with. ..."

Obama quits church, citing controversiesedition.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/05/31/obama.church/index.html#cnnSTCVideo(CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama said Saturday that he has resigned from the church where controversial sermons by his former pastor and other ministers created political headaches for his campaign. Sen. Barack Obama said he was resigning from the church "with some sadness." "We don't want to have to answer for everything that's stated in the church," the Democratic front-runner said. "We also don't want the church subjected to the scrutiny that a presidential campaign legitimately undergoes." Obama said he was resigning "with some sadness." "This is not a decision I come to lightly," he said. The resignation comes days after the Rev. Michael Pfleger, a visiting Catholic priest, mocked Obama's Democratic rival during a sermon at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Illinois. In the sermon, Pfleger wipes his eyes with a handkerchief and suggests that Sen. Hillary Clinton wept because she thought that as a white person and the wife of a former president, she was entitled to the presidency. Pfleger is a Catholic priest at St. Sabina Roman Catholic Church on Chicago's southwest side. He is also a friend of Trinity's former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, from whom Obama distanced himself in April. Obama said the Pfleger controversy made it clear that, as long as he remained a member of the Trinity congregation, remarks from the pulpit would be "imputed" to him, even if they conflicted with his personal views. Obama said he and his wife, Michelle, began discussing a departure from the church after Wright spoke at the National Press Club on April 28. During the appearance, Wright said that Obama had "distanced" himself the fiery pastor for political reasons. Wright, Obama's minister for about 20 years, drew unwanted attention for the campaign when videos of his fiery sermons surfaced. In the speeches, Wright suggested that the U.S. government may be responsible for the spread of AIDS in the black community and equated some American wartime activities to terrorism. Obama has said he was not present for the controversial sermons by Wright or Pfleger. His campaign condemned Pfleger's comments. "That is why I am deeply disappointed in Father Pfleger's divisive, backward-looking rhetoric, which doesn't reflect the country I see or the desire of people across America to come together in common cause," he said in a statement Thursday. Obama said he and his wife had discussed and prayed on the issue with Trinity's senior pastor, the Rev. Otis Moss, and hoped that the decision would withdraw Trinity from the spotlight. "Though we are saddened by the news, we understand that it is a personal decision," Moss said in a statement Saturday. "We will continue to lift them in prayer and wish them the best as former members of our Trinity community," Some Obama supporters, including U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler of Florida, said that disconnecting from the church signaled a chance for the campaign to move on. "I think it bodes well for us in the general election that we can put whatever issues there were behind us in respect to the church," Wexler said. edition.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/05/31/obama.church/index.html
