MM is seriously killing his credibility with his rebuttal of Sarah. Not that he had much to begin with. Now he just added racist to the words one can use to describe him . After penning a book that can only be summarized as innuendo he flees when called to account. Its not enough saying so and so is corrupt....in any society you need tangible evidence to make such allegations. A man who sued the queen should know this. He trivializes weighty matters like PEV in other words saying damn the IDP's. If ODM crew would only kiss his feet they can all go to hell.... Quest for justice indeed. But all this leads to one question. How did RAO end up having such a character next to him? Hata yeye alitupa mbao ..... Now he is left clearing his eyes from MM's dust storm.

Maybe i would have been more sympathetic had it not been that MM motive for writing is clear as day which has led to me doubting his objectivity.
MM had a chance to write about his time in the OPM in an revealing and interesting manner. Instead, from excerpts i have read, he comes out as a man carrying out a hatchet job fueled by need for payback for some 'wrongs' done to him.
Who was, if ever he had one, his friend in the OPM, what were his light/candid moments with the PM b4 the fallout.....
As it is now the book can be summed as
'RAO this RAO that....... blah blah blah.......RAO is no good and he cries........ RAO should have fired Caroli not me.....Now see what he made me do' Many of the allegations sound hollow and third hand......ati i overheard a conversation on the phone!!!! surely! Like one columnist wondered....who buys a hotel from civil service pay anyway? maybe MM knows such men.
Most memoirs (usually done when the subject has left some hallowed office) give holistic insight into the man, an angle maybe more intimate or revealing than we ever imagined but this 'peeling' book mainly gives an insight into the ego of one scorned man and how vitriolic he can be while saying nothing new.
I wonder what else he could be spewing on 'the bench' or ...whenever in some sequel that he is already promising. Methinks this venting means his ego is now deflated.

KNY patriot,
I would think Standard have fell below standards on this one.
Is it not one of the jobs of journalists to verify stuff that they publish or at least put disclaimers on what appears to be hogwash.
What they printed on Arunga is stuff for tabloids or gutters press, I have never assumed them to be either.
Arunga took the delusion avenue long back and she is yet to find her way back. This is really a pitiable case deserving of prayer and head doctors.

marikopolitico,
Merit sure seems slanted towards one region..... would you admit? Does this make other regions the domain of dunderheads?
Secondly, most of these are appointed posts- no vetting done. So meritocratic people had no chance to contest for them.
In short. Don't be in denial, your rationalization of this grave malady is weak.

This does not mean the hospital shall get more wards/Doctors/funding, so why fret over it.
To do away with the obsession with names and argument akin to the Kettle calling the pot black.
I endorse what the constitution did with the practice of having faces on currency.
If it were up to me I would also do away with naming institutions after personalities in favour of, for example, Swahili names like 'Maisha Teaching and Referral Hospital' - reassuring and non divisive.

Kamalet,
Yes, all politicians try to address constituencies of different religions/tribes/gender and ODM should be rightly worried of the Luhya vote, but in our history to straight jacket communities in the lines of 'our choice' and 'tumeamua' through quasi cultural groups and demonize any divergent views is from experience lethal.
This has happened on both sides of GNU and is wrong IMO. Rwandese tried to tie their fate to their ethnic groups and that went way bad. Kenya has had snippets of that situation and we should not go back there.
One may (and should) try to appeal to these needs of such constituencies, but when that turns into us against them scenario then it is wrong. For example when Gema tries to 'own' Uhuru and claim his tribulation is 'our own' OR when Tuju is painted as a proxy in Nyanza for 'the others' interests and a spoiler for 'our own'.
Just because this trend is wide spread does not make it alright. We should appreciate our roots and be free to have a thousand GEMA's but not in politics.
Finally, I agree with you on Tuju/Kenneth but in your admission i find a contradiction. Do you prefer candidates who don't have a 'big tribal baggage' yet at the same time are trying to justify those who tie their cause to a collective of tribes? uko upande gani??
And are you saying a wrong (ethnic alliances) in the short term will turn out to be a good (coalition of counties) in the long term.??
I think it is the same bitter pill you are sugar coating.

Kamalet,
You really are trying to squeeze a positive narrative out of this sad tale.
Associations among tribes are most welcome and across tribe too, but if such even pretend to take on the role of determining politics then they are for exclusion and not inclusion, no two ways about it.
Kamatusa was central to post '92 evictions so was Gema in retaining Kenyatta presidency, to suggest that they can do a Saul to Paul ......eeish Now, that's a sign of a healthy imagination indeed.
Your sympathies must lie with individuals among the groups hence this rationalization attempt. But it doesn't wash.
Jaribu ingine.

Angola had a GDP growth of above 10 % in the last decade same high figures apply to Equatorial Guinea. Yes politically they are not democracies but economically they are example of possibility of growth when oil starts flowing. BBC had a pictorial.... www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-16967815Note i picked Bots as the best example. They have both political and economic credibility.

The principals are shedding the appointees who have not toed political lines. This is the time that loyalty counts over merit.
On the ODM side the pentagon as we knew it.....is gone. Balala had been for long a reluctant nuisance. And an example is being made of him for others like him to make an early stand. He is now free to find his voice but first he needs to find a home, an uphill task in the current scenario. Wapwani may not buy into the prayer rally charade even if he joined it.
On the PNU side it is a realignment borne of ICC necessities.
Wamalwa will wobble into the legal affairs docket to find a good friend in Githu.... erstwhile the sole the judicial spanner boy for the Ocampo 2- saying 4 is a misnomer. It will be a tough one, challenging facts with half baked arguments and innuendo is never easy. And the 2 are not exactly the sharpest tools in the tool box. They can now jointly panel beat the anti ICC crusade bus.
Thankfully it is the last days of this handpicking chess game with cabinet seats, the constitution has done away with it.

The hope-That the standard of living of the common man is lifted. The fear - that the find raises even more discord across national, regional or ethnic borders.
Such a find has always been a blessing or a curse. Congo, Sudan and Nigeria still bear the curse while Equatorial Guinea and Angola are turning into a bright spot thanks to their natural resources. But for an outstanding example we need to study how Botswana has been socially cohesive and economically equitable with its Diamond.
Measure how our leaders guide us in light of this find -as tribes or as a nation. It is the leaders who can make this happen but it is the people who choose the leaders. In the interim between the find and the beginning of export it will be crucial who guides the Nation.
For now we have directionless with cracks and discord. From history, a nation crumbles when it is bereft with internal divisions, external escapades and outside interests looking in. We now have the three in our land.
If the Turkana start the 'our people' politics? there is now a big incentive for foreign interest to fuel such separatist tendency.
As they always say be careful what you wish for, you may just get it.

Mr Gachoka is a political busy body, the kind whose analysis never go beyond a breakdown of census results which, to add an air of incisiveness, meanders into sub-tribes to predict voting patterns.
I find this an affront on the intelligence of voters who to him are mere sheep - morons who thoughtlessly fall in line with their tribe.
There are many poll issues that have support across tribes - devolution and land come to mind but these tribal number crunchers never weigh into these, perhaps this would introduce too many variables to their divide and rule mathematics and only leave them with a nagging headache.
TG belongs is what should remain in a bygone era. Oddly, many of such characters tend to get ample time on the bench. Which say a lot about that media house.

RR,
You nailed it.
The 'Tuko Pamoja' phrase means naught if Uhuru was behind this Limuru thing. It would only then apply to the group. The rest justifiably end up feeling like tenants in their country who have to make do being subservient to the ethnic triumvirate.
Uhuru has declared he will do anything to protect 'his people' was he referring to the Kenyan people? The 'people's' opinion leaders are now busy galvanizing (they have numbers) to trash OUR laws to unchain their 'hope'
But for how long? self determination is the clarion call of real democracy. Majimbo debate has been informed by the same thinking. Minorities are increasingly saying 'you can keep your superior numbers in your back yard, we are calling it quits'.
The logic here is if a group feels it cannot be effectively represented in leadership because of such 'numerical gerimandering' then they will seek to have their own domain. With plastic democracy, why even bother voting when such ganging makes a joke of the process.
We should think Kenya not GEMA......... and if choose to do so then we should not expect every one else to sit and watch and not counter the move.

I hoped such retrogresive movement would go with the demise of leaders like Karume.
I support cultural associations but only those that looks inward for self improvement and not outwards with schemes of having a stake in control of the state to skew its goodies in their direction.
GEMA needs to remove politics from its agenda or failing of which it should be banned. One of the few good things Moi did was to nip it at it's bud eons ago.
This smirks of 'mta do? - we have the numbers' politics which is only divisive and counter productive.
'Mombasa sio Kenya' is one such reaction.

Now that the Ministry washed its hand off mweshimiwa's 'title' and the IDP is not willing to play ball, lawyers should be milking fees on this for quite a few months/years. But being Kenya the final outcome will likely be underwhelming.
Key learning point though, could you legally offer back or seek to keep What is not yours in the first place?
And more broadly, is the original title held by the departed settler good? if so why? and if not doesn't it make the IDP's title also not good?
Philosophical questions but worth exploring. Any Taita Taveta squatter may ditto that.

The question is timing.......is it not odd that his message fits right in with the 'prayer rally' theme?
Charles K tables his forged dossier, right after Matsanga's 'Witness' and regular dose of K24 and FM hullabaloo ....and now this?
It is no coincidence but a widespread orchestrated effort to halt the ICC. Speakers may change but the theme- which invariably centers on ...foreign influence, compromised witnesses, RAO scheme....is and remains the same.
Secondly, note the colorful characters who are the purveyors of the theme message.....Sonko, Matsanga, Koinange and i dare say the newly minted MM.......Then you can spot the game.
This no news. What would make interesting news is...... Uhuruto take on this case of outright foreign interference on our national affairs by Mr.Paisley.
Last time i checked he is no MP for Kamukunji.

A ban would violate the law which recognizes all languages, however the media need to enforce a code of ethics that would stop the abuse of such freedoms.
A good starting point would be a ban of call in programs on political matters for a period of 6 month to elections and submission of news program transcripts to CCK for vetting coupled with heavy penalties to defaulters.

Uhuruto oft repeated line is RAO did it in 2007/8, or He should also be with us in the Dock. I would bet most of the witnesses against them are their 'own people.' So cunningly they do not bother to challenge the substance of the accusation against them but only try to milk mileage out of it by playing victim and scapegoating on RAO.
But it has been said before a potential Jambazi is not excused by mere fact that other jambazis who should have been in the dock are not there.
A major grievance in RV is LAND. Kenyatta senior and his cronies grabbed some from their neighborhood peasant who were then trans located to RV. Kenyatta junior is a major beneficiary of the same by inheritance. In RV the residents in turn sought to right the 'wrong' by returning the 'migrants' to their 'original homes.' One of these tracts is allegedly being offered back to an IDP.....by Ruto.
This put the 2 on opposite sides of the LAND question. The reason they never touch on this issue is because outside of ICC they will not agree on this major issue of 'their people.' So they would rather we talk of foreigners and RAO to mask the fact that theirs is a union of personal convenience in which community interest take a back seat.
To support them blindly is not equal to support for a commonality of interest but support for their personal cause- which is to defeat the prospect of a long jail term which is the real glue in the Uhuruto camp and a strong one indeed.
Legally speaking culpability of RAO is beside the point. If the court deems it fit to call on him one day to answer for the same then so be it. Meanwhile the 2 have already been called to have their day in court and should honor it instead of whipping up emotions to make their personal predicament a national one.
What RAO secretariat said is factual and is what many fear to address just like the land issue. It is about time the innuendo parade was called to sobriety. Rants at a dozen 'prayers' and anointing oil maketh not one innocent, a courts process may.

All this are steps in a strategy that has up to now involved Prayer rallies take 2, Matsanga, Kibaki Tena Youth, K24- The Bench et al to shape public opinion. It is a must win battle for the 4 and they will employ all in their power to avoid the ICC. Their coffer is quite impressive and tribal loyalty is significant.
The tragedy is not many Kenyans are as enlightened as Jukwaa folk to see them for what they are and will fall for it hook line and sinker. Their domain is not this reasoned platform but most likely the vernacular FM stations, corner shop gossip spot and the local, equally misled opinion leaders like pastors and teachers. In this realm O4 innuendos and pleas are passed as factual news.
So in this game while all here may spot their mischievousness at first glance the message is not aimed at us but at Mashinani where the bulk of the votes lie and the politics is played out.
They have shown no qualms abusing the institution of religion or of parliament to peddles lies. As the poll/court day nears the tempo will only go up.
The silver lining is that, they have, till now outed themselves for lack of finesse by using characters like Keff Joinange, the dubious Matsanga and a seemingly class 6 drop out who drafted the recent letter.........And by their own selves by .....well ....offering to return of IDP land!
My take is they do not purposefully go out to recruit such a lacking cast to do their bidding from out of sheer laziness.
It is because it is hard to recruit faithful champions to a cause shrouded with lies.
I expect more propaganda as i do more blunders.
While a goat that has run to the end of its tether can only continue running in circles......A lie repeated often enough becomes truth in the minds of the fatigued and unquestioning loyalists.

RR,
I read somewhere Nairobi forms 60% of our economy. This has been aided by government policy of locating all HQ in the area and managing the rest of Kenya from here. This is something not to be proud about, akin to putting your eggs in one basket and adds fuel to the talk of marginalization of outlying areas in favour of Nairobi and its satellite areas.
As an example, a peasant farmer whose land lies in the margins of Thika road project got his net-worth severally multiplied even before rising out of bed courtesy of the highway. Same probably goes for areas of Kajiado, Kitengela and Athi River and the current mad rush for Konza.
Other land owners across Kenya do not get the same benefit and pay the same tax and have a right to ask why goverment projects dont fall in their neighbourhood. This could inform the urge to vote in a prezzo coming nearest to one's home.
I have always wished we spread our economy like South Africa or even Nigeria to a lesser extent. The formula you quote will only entrench Nairobi status and is akin to cosmetic devolution.

If one bothers to look, key words in the IDP land case mirror oft avoided truth about the root cause of PEV/IDP quagmire:
Settlement scheme
Political godfathers
White settler
Ethnic violence
IDP's
The only twist in this 'movie' is the talk of retribution but with no admission of fault. Not even Riverwood cant top that. .....and starring is yours truly-The man of as many lands deals as court cases.

In early 2011 as ODM and PNU squabbled before AU heads of state meeting in Addis over ICC deferral. A video allegedly produced by officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the President entitled “Restorative or Retributive Justice: When Fighting Impunity Becomes Endorsement of Impunity” was played before the gathering. It featured one Matsanga the former negotiator for the Lord’s Resistance Army of Uganda and an American, Prof David Hoile
The DVD directed blame over PEV to the ODM and the yet to be suspects as unwitting victims of Ocampo’s politicised vendetta. The 2 ‘experts' further argued that ICC caused more problems than it solved and is as a hindrance and a bully to peace and justice in Africa.
Prof Hoile equated ICC to a cancer and claimed Ocampo concocted evidence at a Nairobi hotel by gleaning from the ‘inconclusive’ reports of Justice Philip Waki, Commission and KNCHR’s. Matsanga accused Ocampo of politicising the process and added a racial undertone by describes the Argentine as a "rogue prosecutor bent on portraying Africa as the ‘dark continent’ incapable of dealing with its own problems".
Attacks were also directed toward, Kofi Annan the PEV peace broker and former UN Secretary General.
The shock and empathy from the clips accentuate by ‘expert analysis’ and a group of NGO activists imported from Kenya to picket outside the venue in opposition to ICC drove the message home.
Fast foward to now. Similarities that remain are:
Matsanga is experienced in representing people accused of crimes against humanity.
He continues on the same script of compromised witnesses/bullying by ICC.
He enjoys peddling videos to make his point.
To hide the fact that he is himself a foreigner he styles himself as African. Charity begins at home and he could do well addressing issues in Kampala.
Conclusion: Just another hired propaganda tool. Expect more from him .......

She was a fierce domestic manager and handled family and presidential affairs with gusto often bordering on impunity. The following may wish she kept off public limelight:
Matere Keriri December 2003-Famous airport snub and sacking shortly after wards
Mokhtar Diop 2005-Famous farewell party busted pajama clad Lucy.
Clifford Derrick 2005- Slapped inside Nation offices for his Media house's reporting on Diop incident. Guy had to exile himself to S.A.
Francis Musyimi December 2007- slapped for inadvertently refering to her with her 'rivals name. He was promptly transferred.
George Gichane Nderitu Fired September 2010-Sacked for late laundry delivery but later got a job as a diplomat.
Gitobu Imanyara February 2008- Allegedly 'Assaulted' for caving in in the parliamentary race for deputy speaker. Also ran to S.A. for a while.
George Saitoti February 2009-Got fire for his handling of Sachangwan fire.
Kalonzo Musyoka March 2011-Got a talk down for his snitching on the prezzo to some diplomats.
The 'second family' for being 'denied' in public and Obako for having to be there for the denial.
All said she also did run a charity and we can only wish her full recovery but with a little less drama this time round.

Subsaharanite,
You are scapegoating and reducing this to politics point scoring...... If you want to go beyond that you may as well blame EABL for enabling alcoholics and all sorgum/sugar farmers for spirits.
There are many tools available to kill yourself, one is to excessively consume cheap un inspected drinks.
There are many ways to make money one is to pass off poison as branded legitimate spirit.
The unscrupulous brewer and the drinker are the immediate culprits in this tragedy. The secondary culprit being the social conditions that lead them into the path they find themselves in.
From the news, most of the killer drinks are usually non mainstream exotic named brands or are home made.
Why cant the people be more responsible and practice moderation while the government and leaders ensure what is sold is passed by appropriate authority.
You will find that social problems are never as simplistic as you portray.
